Culture and the Process do not equal talent
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Foreigner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're 100% right. Anderson is the typical washed up, garbage QB that the Bills fixate and fawn over. How many times do we have to sign a Kelly Holcomb, Brian Brohm, Kevin Kolb, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kyle Orton, Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and hope against hope that they suddenly are the veteran presence we need to win the Super Bowl, or the guy our first round pick needs to learn from? They tried it again with AJ McCarron. A guy that was "never given his chance" and two days into training camp it was apparent that he was a checkdown artist. It's garbage and I'm sick of hearing it. It's insulting. McDermott was on WGR 550 on Monday saying first he'd love to score 50 points per game, then settled on what he really believes in - running the ball in snowy blue collar Buffalo. Again, its insulting. Blue collar. As we watch our friends in tropical New England outscore the Chiefs. And Week 7 of the NFL we are out there signing a career backup who is 35 year old fresh off a family vacation to come in and start for us. Our Coach is talking about how much Josh Allen will learn by watching DA conduct his walkthrough. Does Sean McDermott feel like a Coach who has anything for New England this weekend? No. He doesn't. He'll run draw plays on 3rd-12 to avoid turnovers. We have the 32nd ranked offense in the league at 11.6 ppg. Last by a full 1.5 points and the Cardinals started out with with 6 points in the their first two games. Believe us, we know we can't expect anything here in Buffalo, that we should just shut up and be grateful for a team. It's getting really old. McDermott is insulting talking to us about learning from 35 year old career backups, that culture is important than strategy, that they are trying to build a culture here. You're getting your teeth kicked in every other week. Its absurd. -
Cordy Glenn is a horrible contract? The guy is a starting LT in the NFL. Started at LT for the Bills immediately out of college. You're going to pay $10MM a year for that. That's not insane, its a desirable position and another guy that we drafted (2nd Round) and developed and let go. Get real. Let me guess, you were one of those guys that said Jason Peters wants $10MM a year!!!!!! No way!!!!!! Yeah, you were wrong then too bud. Tyrod - Making what? Average QB money. I think we've learned that the production the Bills get out of QBs can get a lot worse than Tyrod. Again, Dareus, the Bills did not HAVE to do that move. The Coach could have opted to work with Dareus a found a point in time to cut him, say after this season, where the dead cap wasn't so high. Our Coach/GM deemed he wasn't a "culture" fit and traded him. Instead the Bills doubled down. They traded Dareus and signed Star long term.

Commemorative Thurmal Hat
Straight Hucklebuck replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. I stopped wearing hats 2003 - 2004 time frame. For me? The new designs are basic compared to the past and they're twice as expensive. No way am I spending $120 on a replica jersey and another $50 on a hat. My Dad for instance. Buys the Draft hat every season. He's got a pile of them. But I wear my stuff until its falling apart and NFL apparel is overpriced. -
Commemorative Thurmal Hat
Straight Hucklebuck replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice design, but hats are overpriced, especially in the Bills shop. You use to buy a fitted hat for $25. In the late 90's for instance, MLB hats could be had for cheap. But now? $45 - $50 in the Bills shop? No way. -
"More cancer" McDermott has you hook line and sinker. So now the cancer is gone and this offseason the real winning starts. We've heard this a million times before by every Bills coach who's walked in here. Without Josh Allen panning out, none of the rest of McDermott's Culture over Talent plan will work.

Problem is Step One of McDermott’s plan is work really hard. Step Two is always credit the other team for kicking your teeth in. Step Three is to side step every question after a blow out loss by saying you have to watch the tape before you can comment on anything. Step Four is to spit out some cliches about doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons. Step Five is to talk down to everyone about complimentary football and how you know where they’re going with every question they ask. Step Six is don’t sign anyone to help the WR group. Just call up Cam Phillips and demote Rueben Foster.

The 5 year (realistic) plan for this team
Straight Hucklebuck replied to ShipUPride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Eric Wood retired January 26th, well before FA and the Draft. They wanted to make Richie Incognito take a pay cut. Again, we try and spin and cover for the FO. -
Amari Cooper Traded To Dallas
Straight Hucklebuck replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree. No way Cooper has demonstrated he was worth a first rounder. I wouldn't have gone higher than a 3rd. -
Bills are 2013 Houston Astros.
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Southern Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come on. This is an example of Bills fans pointing out average things as extraordinary. White is genuinely an impact player. Past that, there is nothing of note on this Bills team. Allen was not impressive in college, not impressive in 5 starts, and is hurt right now. The shine is off that pick until further notice. Pointing out starters on a 2-5 team doesn't do a whole lot. Every team has some younger draft picks playing. -
The 5 year (realistic) plan for this team
Straight Hucklebuck replied to ShipUPride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right, it could happen. The linchpin of the McDermott/Beane rebuilt is Josh Allen. If it's 2014 all over again and 4-5 games into 2019 and Allen looks horrible still with the FA money spent and Draft picks, the seat gets incredibly warm because you're doing the same thing you had to then and now with talking Kyle Orton and Derek Anderson out of retirement to come and play for you. -
Bills are 2013 Houston Astros.
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Southern Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No problem. Besides, they are hold overs from Whaley. Whaley gets the credit for them. This regime has done nothing to show they can find and sign top flight offensive talent. -

Straight Hucklebuck replied to Southern Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Clay and McCoy as staples of the offense should be over. They're old. Clay is 29, McCoy is 30. Those two are slowing down and our offense should not be built around them. Both of them need to be replaced with better players. -
Who to start against NE?
Straight Hucklebuck replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who cares. This is going to be a track meet and the Bills will be behind 7-0 after the opening drive for the Patriots. At that point, the game will be over. -

Straight Hucklebuck replied to Southern Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whatever. We've heard this a million times. Just you wait, in 3-years this team will be invincible. The Centerpiece is Josh Allen. An inaccurate, marginal performer out of the Mountain West. And he wasn't looking too good before getting hurt. This team has one young player that is reliably good - Trey White. The defense has some nice veterans. The rest of the team is bottom of the barrel scrapings. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - So Funny I Could Cry
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Shaw, I'm glad you're starting to see the truth. Its gone from "Outstanding" to "Crying" in 3 weeks. You are seeing that Sean McDermott can't out culture his way over other teams, just like Rex couldn't run over teams with the ground and pound. He loves to tell you that he does the right things at the right times for his football team, that he knows where "you're going" with every question you ask. He's done it all, seen it all, thought of everything. But then his team goes out and gets curb stomped. And all he can say is I have to watch the tape and try to correct mistakes. There are no answers, there is no scheme, there is no young up and comer to promote, there's Brian Daboll sitting with Sean McDermott trying to keep things 3rd and manageable. Working hard, showing up to meetings on time and having no personality does not meaningfully differentiate yourself from any other NFL team. The Bills are like watching a Ford Model T drive by. The Chiefs are like watching the Millenium Falcon make the Kessel Run in 12 Parsecs. The Bills are SLOW. Archaic. Running the draw play on 3rd-12 just to avoid a turnover. Trying to get teams to jump off sides so that you can see what alignment they're in. How ridiculous is it that McDermott was saying Josh Allen could watch how Derek Anderson approaches a walkthrough......... Its 1941 Football in Buffalo. 1941 Football. -
What is your final straw?
Straight Hucklebuck replied to benderbender's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I stopped watching the Bills religiously in the middle of 2013. Stopped making the weekly effort to get to a TV or pay for Sunday Ticket. WGR makes it easy to know exactly what's going on and to have a discussion. -
If the Bills are picking #1 overall, they need to take another QB. There is really nothing on this team besides Trey White. The Bills are starting over completely and you can't bank on Josh Allen hitting. So cut Nate Peterman, Derek Anderson will be an afterthought, and if this Coach is all about competing, then Josh gets his chance in 2019 to go against another QB.

McDermott too easy on the players
Straight Hucklebuck replied to TwistofFate's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is just nowhere to turn. There are no players that we can turn to off the bench for more offense. And our Coach is a defensive coordinator, so even if he wanted to, how could he scheme up more offense? Allen is weeks out, Peterman is unplayable. So its 35 year old Derek Anderson and the slowest offense in the league trying to manufacture 10 points to squeak by. -
I agree with this. The Coach is on the record as saying his offense is predicated on running the ball with physicality because it snows in Buffalo. You trade Glenn, #12, #53, #55 for rocket-armed Josh Allen. And he goes into the season as the #2 to watch Nate Peterman and learn. The Coach seemingly can't shake his faith in noodle armed QB unless Nate is so bad that he costs his teams games. For a Coach who loves to say that he's seen it all, done it all, planned for doing the right things at the right times, knows where you're going with any question you ask him we're in Week 5 signing a 35 year old QB who was on a family vacation. When the Bills win games it looks a lot like Dick Jauron. It's 17-14 leaning on a defense the entire day, punting and playing field position. If the other team scores, the Bills only mode of winning goes out the window and they often get shelled. There is no sense that McDermott is sitting on a secret pocket of offensive knowledge to where if he had the "right" offensive players, the offense would suddenly be opened up and we'd be scoring 30+ ppg. And our fans. A large percentage of them preach the virtues of patience and just waiting longer. That the $79MM in cap space and the 2019 Draft will rebuild the entire offense. And it's too early I guess, but the real kicker is, that QB the Bills had to have at #7 doesn't look very good....so how likely is it that you get 5-6 games into 2019 and he's got to be pulled out because he stinks? McDermott got 2018 and 2019 based on the Playoffs in 2017. But the offense is deplorable. Mahomes has 233 yards and 3 TDs, with another 40 yards rushing and they are sitting first and goal in the 2nd Quarter. We're signing 35-year old backups off beach towels to play for us in Week 7.
-
I agree with the veterans possible mental checkout because we are in Week 7. We've got 10 more weeks to go. I just look at this roster and there really is nowhere to turn. Not one young running back, or fast undrafted WR, or one offensive lineman who is ready. You don't even have Brad Smith to run the Wildcat. This offense is completely devoid of any fast players. So the game plan has to be the same every week. Hide the QB. Run the ball, dump off all day, try an occasional throw to the sideline. And you hit the nail on the head. Sure the Bills have all this cap room, so do other teams and now you have to convince them to come to Buffalo. Play for this Coach, with no QB on the roster, 11.5 ppg scoring. I also agree on Beane's staff. Kaolin Clay, Jordan Matthews, Mike Tolbert, Joe Webb, Kelvin Benjamin, Jeremy Kerley, Corey Coleman, Anquan Boldin. Just scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel in trades and free agents. I mean its Week 7 and they haven't brought in one other practice squad player from around the league. Isn't there one guy on a practice squad somewhere that runs a 4.40?
