Right, let me check the McDermott rollodex of responses. It starts with a winning mindset and those come from habits. We have to establish the line of scrimmage before we can conceive of throwing to a Tight End.

Top 5 HC in the NFL who do you have?
Straight Hucklebuck replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah what a shock, all the best teams in the league have the best quarterbacks and quarterbacks make coaches. Pederson might get a vote here, River Boat Ron has a nice team, Shanahan can Coach offense, Nagy has improved Turbisky. -
I think I'm out on McDermott
Straight Hucklebuck replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See this is what I'm talking about. Fans try to be rational coming in. They hear a Coach talk about changing the culture, field position, 3rd and manageable, establishing the line of scrimmage, running the ball in snowy Buffalo, the tip of the cap to the "blue collar" people of Buffalo and they think well surely the Coach is just settling in, placating to fans, giving them what they want to hear. But then, as always, the Bills don't have a Quarterback, and riding defense and running doesn't work, losses pile up and people start to lose patience. There is no light at the end of the ball control tunnel when the Saints and Rams score 80 points combined and our offense can't score more than 3 points without personal foul penalties against the Bears. The prison is McDermott's mindset on top of NO QUARTERBACK He truly believes, like Rex did, like Marrone did, like Jauron did, that you can line up, and just run over other teams and win 17-13 by keeping the other QB on the sidelines. It's mind-numbing. Our FO continues to shovel out poop and tell you that you have to eat it in order to be good someday. -
I think I'm out on McDermott

Well whether McDermott believes in his vision or not, he has to realize that he has spent/burnt all the good will that the 2017 Playoff run bought him with his team's performance this season. In Cleveland it was we understand that Hue was dealt a bad hand. Come on back for your 3rd season. But when the losses are still piling up, it overwhelms that patience. It changes the plan. In the NBA, the Philadelphia Sixers embraced the tank for a few seasons, but eventually the chorus of boos, empty seats cost Sam Hinkie his job before the "The Process" was completed regardless of Joel Embiid. Owners, GM's and fans always says at the beginning of the trip that they knew what they were signing up for. But we know humans lose patience, owners lose patience, fans lose patience. People are paying money to see this. The credibility is nearly or all gone here. Half of the Bills games are not competitive at halftime. I think it's likely that McDermott will be fired during the 2019 seasons because he is not aggressive enough to compete with good offenses today, and his team will start 2-4 next season the patience will run out. You don't get 5 years in the NFL. 3 points against Jacksonville doesn't give you 2-3 more years. In general its still about 3 years or you're done. -
How would you fix the Offense?
Straight Hucklebuck replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Why is a Patriots fan here? Not welcome. 2. Put McCoy into the slot, and get Murphy on the field more. This team is devoid of speed. 3. Stop running out of shotgun or trying to "get the edge" on sweeps. The Bills lose yards every time they try that play. 4. Instead of #3, start using the bubble screen to Zay Jones or McCloud. 5. Put Croom out as a WR, put Benjamin in the slot. 6. Actually try a drag route or cross. Now, all of these ideas outside of #1 revolve around passing, so our Coach is scared of that and none of these will be done because it isn't physical line of scrimmage establishing. -
What are we worried about guys? Peterman is going to learn from the failed Hail Mary and McDermott is going to watch the tape and together the group will correct their mistakes. We're building a culture here people.

Notable Offensive Moves by McDermott
Straight Hucklebuck replied to jrober38's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well we could go all-in on McDermott’s philosophy. Use most of the 10 draft picks and $80MM on defense. See if we can build a defense that only allows 10 ppg. Now chained to this offense we’d be 4-5 with only 10 ppg allowed (which is the best defense ever) but we’d be able to play the field position and play complimentary football just like McDermott wants. -

We’ve scored 33 points in our last 4 games combined. -
I really hope they pick again at McDermott’s philosophy on how to win in this league. The Rams and New Orleans have scored 80 points and are still playing and this Coach thinks field position and running are going to beat that? That habits and culture beat Drew Brees to Michael Thomas for a 72-yard TD? I hope they ask him to again look around the league and explain for 3rd and manageable is supposed to accomplish this.

Let’s go all the way jrober38. Lets blow the majority of the 10 picks and cap space on defense. Maybe if we be the 2000 Ravens and hold teams to 10 ppg we could win. Never mind we’d be 4-5 even with that level of defense, let’s just go total counter current to the league. -

And that’s why I put stock into McDermott’s press conferences and Beane’s interviews combined with the personnel the acquire. All of it speaks to old, ancient theories. Yes, once in awhile you can beat a team on the back of physical run game. But limiting turnovers is going to beat the Saints who have 35 against an 8-0 football team. Supporting a weak QB with a physical run game beats the KC Chiefs who scored an easy 37 points? Nick Chubb ran 22 times today for 85 yards a touchdown. His team lost by 16. Mahomes threw for 375 yards...... WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SEAN????? Watch the tape, study the film harder, show up one minute earlier to meetings, elite culture, line of scrimmage, playing physical, field position, punting, 3rd and manageable. We’re now 11-14 with McDermott....and 3 points in Jacksonville means what now? He’s burned that good with this 3-game stretch, 5-6-9 points scored. 20 points in 3 games. The Bears had 28 at halftime. -

I’m not drunk. The Millenial insults are just like Sean McDermott, an old mindset. Fans have every right to question a 32 beat down, and question a Coach who has this team at 2-7, scoring 10 ppg. Just because you've elected to turn your critical thinking off and blindly believe in this Staff and FO, doesn’t mean that any other fan has to. 41-9 against a rookie HC and 2nd Year QB with no Kahlil Mack at home. Outclassed all day. -

It’s the mindset of McDermott that is a massive barrier even if you get the talent. This is is a guy who thinks establishing the line of scrimmage with a physical run game in snowy Buffalo and respecting the ball is the key to winning in 2018. And when he predictably gets his teeth kicked in, he goes to watching tape, correcting mistakes and habits as the root cause. He represents Stone Age football and has no answers for it. All he can do is watch tape and tip his hat to the other team. -

Clock in, report to your work station, do as your shift leader tells you and press those widgets you scrubs. This plant had better be clean for the VIP visit on Wednesday. The Plant Manager is going to be angry! Do as your told. -
Finally the end for peterman???
Straight Hucklebuck replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, McDermott said he’s a QB you can win with in the NFL after today’s game. So no. Peterman is not going anywhere. -
A lot of fans will say that you have to give them time, but 3-straight games now with no touchdowns, not even getting to 7-points? We can keep pointing to the Playoffs in 2017, but the Coaching staff and FO has used up all that good will. The case is made to give this FO time to learn on the job, until losses like this continue to happen every week.

Raiders release Bruce Irvin

40 career sacks, only missed 6 games? He may stink, but Trent Murphy can’t be counted on, so why not add to the strength of the team? -

There’s your veteran presence. -
He asks because you’re an impatient entitled millennial if you don’t want to eat poop game after game after game under the premise that McDermott’s elite culture will eventually lead us to sustained winning. Those Bills fans believe that you have to sit in the garbage heap of the league, keep your mouth shut, keep mining that coal, pressing the widgets for the boss, and trust McDermott. You are not allowed to bring up facts in the form of the decisions this regime has made and debate whether they are smart. You accept it was disaster here and it was necessary for McDermott to go to these lengths to clean it all up. So Wood retiring on January 26th and management asking Incognito to accept a pay cut were so out of the blue that nothing could be done to the point that this whole season and 10 ppg on offense gets a pass?
-
It’s the mindset of McDermott. You can study tape long enough, go to meetings on time, correct mistakes, and out culture the league. He talked about it again this week, starting with habits and winning mindsets as a way to jump start the offense. I think its as simple as he thinks Kelvin Benjamin is good enough if he studies the tape hard enough. He doesn’t look at it like the fans do. This is not a talent problem, this is learning how to win and tipping our hat to the opponent.

He never was good. This reverence for him by McDermott and Beane just shows their willingness to scrape the bottom of the barrel. McDermott was actually talking about how Allen will learn watching Anderson conduct a walkthrough. Then he goes out and throws 3 Ints and fumbles against the Colts. Send him packing please and stop with this mentor nonsense.
