  1. Okay, so you believe all the Bills FO and Coach need is time? And then the Bills will be winning in this league? Going to AFC Title Games? I think the odds of that based on what we've seen out of this GM and Coach are microscopic. The point was Seattle and Denver, defensive led teams, had real HOF talent. The Bills have a few nice players defensively, and a couple of key cogs who are 35 years old. Big difference. Laugh it up Joe. Russell Wilson is better than every QB the Bills have ever had, including Kelly. Its not close.
  2. 29 years old, started every game in his career, 64% passer, 99 career rating, +114 TD to Interception, also has over 3,000 yards rushing and 16 more TDs, Super Bowl champion. Yeah, HOFer.
  3. Well warrior9 again, let's analyze. Who Quarterbacked the Seahawks? Not Trent Dilfer. HOFer Russell Wilson on a rookie deal. Who did Seattle have on their team? HOF QB, Pro Bowl Running back, Chancellor (5th Rounder), Richard Sherman (5th Rounder), Earl Thomas, Bobby Wagner, KJ Wright, Mike Bennett. All were elite talents during their rise to the top. The Broncos had a HOF OLB leading their pass rush, and another HOFer in Demarcus Ware when they won their SB, along with Talib, Chris Harris, TJ Ward, Derek Wolfe, and D.Thomas and Emanuel Sanders at WR. The point is, the Seahawks got really good when they stacked 3 straight great drafts together, had a young core and a QB on a rookie deal. You had real high end NFL talent. The Broncos likewise had young guys in their prime, mixed in with capable HOF veterans. We have 35 year old Kyle Williams and 35 year old Lorenzo Alexander that we hope will be around when we get good. Its not that defense "doesn't matter". But right now, our defense has to give up 12 points or less for our team to have a chance, and Elway/Schneider have shown they can build Championship level defense. When the Ravens won in 2000, they had HOFers, Lewis, Woodson, Tampa in 2002 with Sapp, Lynch and Brooks. The Bills have a tough nosed defense. But its not 1985 Bears and trying to win this way is increasingly getting harder to do, let alone sustain over span of years. Maybe the Bills can win this way, maybe their GM can build the next great generational defense. At this point I'd almost prefer that to our FO blowing picks on building an offense. If Zay Jones is any indication, or Mike Tolbert, or Rod Streater, or Jeremey Kerley, or Kaolin Clay, or Kahari Lee, or Nate Peterman or Kelvin Benjamin, or Vlad Duccasse, I'm not sure I want to see Brandon Beane or Sean McDermott blow picks trying to help the offense.
  4. Watch the Patriots and Chiefs and come back to this board and say this honestly. The Bills are not even in the league right now. They are nowhere when it comes to real winning. And you're okay with it because we have a few defensive pieces in an era where defense doesn't win and because the Coach/GM/Quarterback are new so you can hide behind the "it's early" card. Honestly the thought process this Coach and GM have towards team building is rightfully being put under the microscope.
  5. Peterman has all the things this Coach fawns over: He shows up to meetings on time He studies really hard He watches tape well He does whatever he is told He is a faith based player He helps out with Lockeroom Culture He claps well He parrots McDermott’s mantras He was McDermott’s pick I think McDermott believes he got a steal when Peterman fell to the 5th Round. He is the classic snowy Buffalo Rudy Rudiger underdog story.
  6. I disagree with benching Allen for Anderson. That guy was on a family vacation when the Bills called, he is a washed up journeyman. He’s here because AJ McCarron was a Matt Cassel dump off clone - another great Beane signing. You keep Allen in there. This is the the type of game that turns the tide on a Coache’s and GM’s tenure, this love affair with Peterman cost the Bills another game. In all honesty, I think this game marks the beginning of the end for McDermott in Buffalo. It’s been 22 games now. The guy is absolutely clueless offensively. He is Dick Jauron as the rest of the league goes into hyper-drive offensively., In terms of punting game, you have a Coach who is obsessed with Special Teams and the Bills hang on to these fringe NFLers - Joe Webb, Kaolin Clay, Tavaris Cadet, Mike Tolbert, Taiwan Jones, and they have no speed, no value in today’s game. “Gotta watch the tape” is only going to fly 1 or 2 more weeks. Then it’s going to start aggravating people who are convering this team. Now we’re down to signing street free agents and 35 year old ex-Panthers on family vacations.
  7. Gag me. This team starts Anderson, then McDermott and Beane need to be fired for the illogical decision making.
  8. “Never planned on Allen being the guy this year” - That’s a blind spot on this FO and Coaching staff. They thought Nate Peterman was a starting NFL QB with Kelvin Benjamin, Zay Jones and Jeremy Kerley as WRs. Then they cut Kerley and Ruben Foster/Ray Ray McCloud was moved up the depth chart. They trotted out practice squad level talent to try and compete on Sundays and are becoming impatient with the results. The Bills did this to themselves.
  9. How is this connected to Josh Allen in any way? “Overwhelming majority” is giving a pass? Eli is getting a lot of heat. The way Bills fans think is strange. Always on a crusade to deflect any criticism and lower the bar so they feel better about themselves.
  10. Can the Bills finally end these clown show uniforms and get back to the 1990’s Bills the way it should be? They should have never changed them.,
  11. I turned it off. I’m not sure how the NFL expects you to watch this garbage product anymore. These roughing the passer calls are pathetic.
  12. Whatever mjt, if you don't like my construct then go out and actually do some work and develop your own system.
  13. He definitely was a reach. 0 star prospect, JUCO transfer, not All-Mountain team, no elite production in college, no banner/statement wins in college. Got drafted because he was 6'5" 240 and has a cannon. All scouting reports questioned his accuracy. He would not have been a first rounder based on production. He was a projection/reach.
  14. Best Way is go team by team and see: AFC East 1. Patriots - Brady - The NFL didn't know a 6th Round Pick would be the GOAT. Pretty quickly showed he was no project because of his accuracy and ability to choose the open man. 2. Dolphins - Tannehill - Somewhat a project. Converted college WR. Has been an average NFL QB. Does not look like a Super Bowl caliber QB. 3. Jets - Darnold - Blue Chip prospect. 4. Bills - Allen - Project from a small conference with mediocre college production. AFC North 1. Steelers - Roethlisberger - Project? He dominated the MAC and immediately became the starter in Pittsburgh. Not a project. 2. Ravens - Flacco - Deleware St, I'd say a project QB. Had the one great Playoff run that resulted in a Super Bowl win. 3. Bengals - Dalton - Not a project. Was a winner in college and has been steady in the NFL. 4. Browns - Mayfield - Not a project. #1 Overall. AFC South 1. Colts - Luck - Not a project. #1 Overall. 2. Titans - Mariota - Not a project. #2 Overall. 3. Jaguars - Bortles - #3 Overall pick, but close to a project? 4. Texans - Watson - #12 Overall, definitely not a Project. Won a National Title over Alabama, almost won a 2nd over Alabama. AFC West 1. Chargers - Rivers - Not a project. #4 overall in 2004 Class. 2. Raiders - Carr - Huge college numbers, not a project. First Rounder. 3. Chiefs - Mahomes - Project? I don't think so, he was a 10th overall pick, huge college production, massive arm. Biggest question was Air Raid offense to Pro. 4. Broncos - Keenum - Project. Career Backup who had great season last year in Minnesota and is getting his crack at starting full-time. NFC East 1. Giants - Manning - #1 Overall, son of Archie Manning, brother of Peyton Manning. Not a project. 2. Eagles - Wentz - Shaky first season, then exploded onto the scene. Not sure if he was a project coming in, most analysts liked him. 3. Redskins - Smith - #1 Overall, early career disappointment, but has been steady for years now. Not a project. 4. Cowboys - Prescott - Maybe a project. I always thought in college he was more of a running QB, but took command of the Cowboys quickly. NFC North 1. Packers - Rodgers - Tedford QB was the biggest knock, but not a project. 2. Lions - Stafford - Not a project, #1 overall pick from SEC school. 3. Bears - Turbisky - #3 overall, but only one year in College. Call him a project. 4. Vikings - Cousins - Mid-Round pick, but a well rounded prospect coming out of school. Not a project QB. NFC South 1. Saints - Brees - First pick of the 2nd Round I believe, a early career disappointment, not a project. 2. Panthers - Newton - #1 Overall, dominant college career, not a project. 3. Buccaneers - Winston - #1 Overall, but shaky decision making and maturity in college. Call him a project, but was a National Champion in college, so not a project on talent. 4. Falcons - Ryan - Not a project. NFC West 1. Seahawks - Wilson - Seen as too small by Buddy Nix and other 31 teams. Call him a project. 2. Rams - Goff - #1 Overall - Not a project. 3. Cardinals - Rosen - Polished passer, not a project. 4. 49ers - Garrapolo - Small school prospect, was going to continue sitting in New England. Call him a project. So out of 32 starting QBs, I'd say 9 were projects coming into the league. Definitely Worked Wilson (HOFer), Flacco, Wentz Too Early but looks like they can play in the NFL, we could parse this group down again to likely Super Bowl winner or not. Winston, Garrapolo, Turbisky, Prescott Probably Not Tannehill, Keenum and if you want to include Bortles, although he has been to AFC Title Game and his statistics are not atrocious. Way too early Allen, but would defy all scouting logic
  15. Allen needs to play 100% of the time. Who cares about meaningless wins and losses this season? It would be asinine for the Bills to pull Allen and put in journeyman Derek Anderson. What a complete waste of time. If they do that, then I immediately jump on the fire Beane and McDermott bandwagon.
  16. Cooper has been a mild disappointment for the Raiders, and has not be a true #1. I would not go go any higher than a 3rd Round pick for him, but do not hate the idea. He has this year and his 5th year option.
  17. Beane was also asked in that interview about not selecting a WR in the Draft until the 6th Round and he said the Bills stuck true to their board and it kept falling on defense. Asked about Dez Bryant, said they'll talk about it. In terms of Free Agent WRs: You'll see some guys coming out in the Free Agent waters, Maclin, Decker came out last year. 9 picks in 2019, cap should be better in 2019, knows they have a ways to go. No focus on Benjamin extension.
  18. https://wgr550.radio.com/media/audio-channel/04-30-bills-general-manager-brandon-beane-howard-and-jeremy First Question out of the Gate: Why Josh Allen Beane's Answer: 1. Big, Strong, Athletic 2. Earned everything 3. Not recruited 4. Never complained 5. No NFL caliber players at Wyoming 6. When hurt his team immediately lost two games 7. He was the Wyoming team 8. Can run the ball like the Panthers Cam Newton 9. Pro Style offense and can make reads 10. Weather a consideration in January football I think Beane looked for the next Cam Newton. It's what he knows. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2017/07/buffalo_bills_gm_brandon_beane_describes_what_he_looks_for_in_franchise_quarterb.html "It's a quarterback league. I mean, who are we kidding?" Beane said. "If you look at the playoffs teams, the consistent guys that at least qualify for the playoffs or are close every year, most of them have QBs, most of them have a legit quarterback. If you want to use the word franchise, whatever word you want to use, so I understand that. Cam in Carolina was, is, a franchise quarterback. If you're a GM, you have to find a franchise quarterback. It obviously helps keep you on a consistent playing field if you have one, so I get that."
  19. I criticize McDermott's philosophy as too conservative, overly focused on Special Teams, and not prioritizing speed or playmaking, and overrating culture. To me, his plan to win games is Jauron, Marrone, Rexish. I criticize Beane for having his head stuck in Carolina and trying to copy the 2016 Panthers as his model. McDermott is 11-10 as a Head Coach. Being critical is not the same as grabbing a pitchfork and campaigning for the guy to get fired. They got us to the Playoffs last year, so they get the benefit of the doubt. It has bought them this year and next year. But oldmanfan we congratulate McDermott and Beane for 9-7 and 2-3 like they are actually building a super power. They may be, Allen may work out, but look at this roster on the offensive side of the ball. McCoy is 30, Clay is 29/30, Mills is your RT still, Benjamin has 99 yards in 5 games, you have replacement level Bodine starting, holdover Mills is starting at RG, Zay Jones is a bust. There is a reason the team is scoring 12.5 ppg. All fans understand its not a finished product. But it is ok to look at the rest of the league and try to figure out whether this regime can compete with the better teams in the league during Playoff time. Josh Allen did throw for 82 yards yesterday. This is not a 5-0 football team above any sort of thought process.
  20. Edmunds - I like that he was hyper athletic and 20 years old. Phillips - My favorite pick of this last draft. Johnson - Nice. McCloud/Neal/Teller - These guys have no +/- on really winning games in the NFL. Most likely these guys wash out of the league in a couple of years. Murphy - 2.5 sacks, projects to 7.5/year. Not bad for a #2 DE. Star - Ok, a run stuffer from Carolina. Not cheap though. Ivory - A journeyman RB who has been around the league (Saints, Jets, Jags, Bills). Speaks to the nature of RB. McCarron - A flop, but agreed, they cut their loses quickly. Davis - Elected to not pay E.J. Gaines and Davis showed quickly he was on his last legs. So, overall you list guys on a 2-3 football team that is scoring 12.5 ppg and allowing 23.6 ppg.
  21. Joe - You act like they won 12 games last year and led the league in performance metrics. They were a 9-7 Football team that squeaked in on an Andy Dalton TD pass, and immediately got bounced from the Playoffs with a 3 point offensive effort. This year they're 2-3, and have been blown out 3 times. Ok, the plan was to purge and rebuild the defense first. That doesn't mean that all fans have to bow down and accept the plan and assume it means that major winning is just around the corner. It is okay to judge and critique the moves the regime have made until this point. We're 5 games into the season and the leading WR on this team is Zay Jones, who has 13 catches for 164 yards. 2.8 cpg and 33 ypg. Its okay and valid to judge Beane's ability and be critical. It's not the same thing as fire both of them right now.
  22. Joesixpack: From an X's and O's standpoint fans don't know as much as McDermott. No questions asked. We don't sit in NFL Film rooms for 20 hours a day. But you look at the Bills busts in draft picks: Aaron Maybin, EJ Manuel, Sammy Watkins, John McCargo, JP Losman, Erik Flowers, Mike Williams, Torrell Troup, James Hardy, Zay Jones, Shaq Lawson and so on, its also clear that Bills GMs have not been all knowing football men either. We won yesterday so the usual fans are in McDermott/Beane defense mode. But it is more than fair to question this regime 21 games in looking at the players they've dumped, the players they've signed, the players the drafted, their draft strategy and how many wins they have. Its fair to question McDermott's style, or Beane's affinity for former Panthers. The answer with a lot of fans is always patience. But its the NFL. You don't get 5 years to plan and execute. Beane and McDermott got the Bills to the Playoffs last year. So this year is a complete Get Out of Jail Free Card. But, it looks through 21 games that they are trying to win with 1974 style football in an age where passing and scoring are at all time highs.
  23. No it was Doug Whaley. He was the GM and oversaw the Pro Personnel Department. That is not Sean McDermott.
  24. Beane does not get credit for Hyde and Poyer. That was Doug Whaley.
