  1. That’s what a GM does. I don’t think you need an over-arching Czar that does none of the detail work. Hire a consultant if you want a second opinion.
  2. Why do we care about accuracy? For me, the most successful Coach of all-time said the top two things he looks for in a Quarterback are decision making and accuracy. Josh Allen won’t be a rookie next season. He has all offseason to watch tape, will take all the reps in OTA’s, won’t have to look over his shoulder, all the cliche’s that Bills fans use. So does that mean Allen will improve his production in a way that translates to wins? Because next season we should be winning.
  3. Yes they do. McDermott has his culture, their QB is in place, they ate the dead money, they have the picks, the Coach has been here three years so there is no new scheme excuse. You never are allowed to judge the Bills (or Sabres) because we’re always on this three year plan or that 5-year plan. When does the winning start Teef? When? Brady at 42 or the Dolphins & Jets starting over with new Coaches doesn’t raise the bar of expectation. A 1-game improvement over 2018 is good enough? Geez, the bar is so low, it’s laughable.
  4. We know, we get the pat on the head and a participation medal. Buffalo should just be happy to have a team. Screw that, Tom Brady will be 42 next season, the Dolphins and Jets will have new Head Coaches, and we know Bills fans would be using that as an excuse (new schemes) as to why winning couldn’t be expected. The expectation needs to be 10-6, at least 4-2 in division. Solidly in the Playoffs, not needing a last day miracle to get in.
  5. That was a weird press conference today. Gase’s eyes bugging out of his head, the Jets making reporters state their name and employer, Chris Johnson whispering at the podium, and the Jets abruptly ending the press conference at the end.
  6. But watch how the Playoff games unfold. 16-15 Eagles over the Bears, Dallas beating the Seahawks 24-22 in a scratch and claw game, Chargers limped by the Ravens. I think what you see is, QB play is the most important especially the decision making , but games are more tightly contested and the scoring is harder to come by. The Bills really need to continue building the depth on defense.
  7. Why in Buffalo are the expectations so low? Why is 10 wins not realistic? Why do other fans get to enjoy Playoff games, and Bills fans have to be on 5-year rebuild plans? The culture excuse is gone, McDermott is in his 3rd year, they have their hand-picked QB, the defense has it's hand-picked MLB, Beane has executed his plan to dump all players not associated with the future. I don't see how 8-8 next season could be spun as progress. Really 9-7 is on the fringe of Playoff contention. That's not good enough. The Sabres are out of the Playoffs after briefly leading the entire NHL in points, the Bills haven't won a Playoff game since 1995. I mean when does the winning ever start in Buffalo? Brady will be 42 next season, the Dolphins have a new HC, the Jets have a new HC. Why isn't 4-2 realistic?
  8. Anthony Lynn and Gus Bradley - Let’s copy the 2015 Rex gameplan against the Patriots. Play soft zone against Edelman, giving every receiver regardless of speed 10 yards of cushion.
  9. I think three things: the Bills, the Bills media and the fans need to ditch this notion that you “have to get the run game going”. We waste more time on that idea. We need to get more speed on the field at RB and actually call screen passes to that RB. Stop “trying to get to the edge”. Watch today, defenses are too fast and you lose yards almost every time you do that. Bonus, is running out of shotgun really all that great?
  10. Looked at all data from 2009 - 2018. People make fun of sites like 538 and PFF. But they take the time to crunch math on every play of every game. A majority of fans watch the game once with a beer in their hand and a sandwich in the other. I’ll take the engineering mindset all day over emotional fans.
  11. As Beane states, this was a calculated plan to eat all dead money in 2018. So I don’t see the Bills going bonkers to try and soak up all that cap space. I can see one guy in positions of need - one WR, one OLineman. one DLineman and one back seven Defensive piece. I would also also bet on trading up in the Draft. McDermott/Whaley did it twice in their first draft, and Beane did it twice in the 2018 draft.
  12. After Donahue, Ralph went into a shell. Only people he knew. Marv hired mid-phone call when Ralph was asking advice on who to hire as GM in 2006. That led to Russ Brandon power in 2008/2009. John Modrak still hanging on all the way until the end of the 2010 Draft. Also in 2010 was Ralph and Russ scanning a list of names, narrowing the search to two in-house candidates. Whaley came in with Nix in 2010 and lasted until after the 2017 Draft.
  13. I just listened to his press conference, it was only 14 minutes long, but here were my thoughts. 1. Upper management wanted an offensive coordinator, and Kliff is calling the plays. We’ll see if a guy who only has solid ideas about one side of the ball from a college viewpoint can command an entire team. As in the past with the Bills, they are looking for a veteran 3-4 mind to coordinate the defense. 2. Kliff referred to the Cardinals as first class, and an organization that always does the right things. Which makes you wonder about Bidwell’s thought process last year with Wilks. He got one year with a Bottom 3 roster. 3. A lot of back slapping of current and former players, too much for my taste. 4. Kliff had more presence than Matt L in Green Bay.
  14. I just listened to the press conference and here were my takeaways. 1. He lacks presence. Reporters toward the end started to defer to the GM and owner representative more than Matt because his answers were long winded. He was getting emotional with his family there, and while that’s understandable, I didn’t always think he commanded the room. 2. When the Packers talk about talent, they mean Aaron Rodgers. The tone much of the time was, did Aaron sign off on this? Overall, he felt young for the Head Coaching seat.
  15. At least Gase has a normal career progression. Kitchens, Kingsbury, LaFeur have limited experience.
  16. I think you're spot on. Patriots and Steelers "fans" have never suffered. They are use to showing up on Sunday's and just be rewarded with constant winning. So agree, take out the Steelers and Patriots, and in the NFC the hatred has to be for the Cowboys. Beating them 52-17 would be a sight to see.
  17. You have to have players. The Bills would be better if they drafted well. There are virtually no legacy players that the Bills drafted throughout the Drought other than Kyle Williams and Eric Wood. Multiple drafts in the Drought yielded nothing - 2005 nothing, 2006 Kyle Williams and nothing else, 2007 (Lynch gone after 3 years), 2008, 2010, 2011 (got Dareus at #3 and maybe Aaron Williams who really only had one good year), 2012 (Gilmore and Glenn are both gone), 2013 (Woods gone), 2014 (Watkins is a bust), 2015 (Darby gone), 2016 (Lawson is a rotational piece), 2017 finally a good player White. While I think there is value in offensive minded head coaching, I wish these analysts would LOOK at how Playoff games actually play out. The scoring comes down (defense matters) and it really hinges on your QB's ability to make plays. I think people overrate Coaching to SOME degree and continually undervalue the power of drafting well.
  18. Beane's FA additions have been below average, and he has traded up multiple times in the draft. McDermott has been conservative, and you have to question whether he has a vision to create a top flight NFL offense. It's not 0% for me, but it's in the low 20's.
  19. Such a copy cat league. No imagination at all. Just find the youngest offensive assistant you can because it "worked" with McVay.
  20. Russ Brandon got up in front of the media on the eve of Training Camp in 2009 and said he hadn’t spoken to Peters since January. Traded an All-Pro LT because you didn’t want to pay him $10MM a year. He got to the Eagles and they had a contract in place the same day.
  21. Who cares. Shady I know you think you’re Barry Sanders and the Bills/media treats you that way, but you’re washed up. The Bills need to stop kissing this guys butt and get some more speed out of the backfield. The days of the “get Shady going” gameplan should be made long gone.
