I don’t know if that is true anymore, or not all the way true. The spread, throwing the ball, scoring points, more athletic QBs, speed, smaller defenders who rush the passer. I think a strong offense Iine is important, but a 340 pound NT seems to have less fit in today’s game.

Beane wasn’t lying when he said he’s thinking longterm. Two/Three draft picks so far need development to get on the field. He’s not getting much help for this season. Schwartz going to Cleveland hurt because that was your speed player. That’s a player that I wanted the Bills to take. With that said, I think the Bills need to expand Isaiah McKenzie’s role as a speed player because the WRs left are generally slower.

The Bills could use some competition in the Secondary. WR is picked over, but the Bills need to try and add a speed component somewhere, so maybe RB or WR.

With all these picks on the Defensive Line, Addison has to go and Darryl Johnson/Efe Obada. Cap hit or not, there is no room. Maybe, like Epenesa, the Bills ask Basham to lose weight and he coverts to a Linebacker and plays the Lorenzo Alexander position.

This is another traits type Draft from Beane. I wanted Schwartz to fall.

I'm not saying I'd do this tomorrow, but Oliver is the 9th overall pick and there hasn't been much to see. When we talk about lineman on their way out, how does Oliver not start coming up now? When we talk about odd-man out, Addison is expensive, so is Star. There is definitely a glut of DEs now, all in the same mold.

It's this season, and competition on that line is heating up. Butler, Star, Phillips, Zimmer

Unfortunately, instead of being a physical mismatch, Oliver has been undersized. If you could get a 4th or 5th for him, might be about time to ship him. That's a big cost for no production though, so how likely is that?

Ed Oliver is welcome to show up any time he wants now and help this team. With all these bodies, the Bills could trade him prior to 2021 season.

Beane said after the Draft that the Bills explored both sides of a trade, and that one team showed interest in trading up and the Bills could have moved back, but the Bills were focused on Rousseau the way the Draft fell.

I thought it was going to come down to - Barmore, Samuel Jr, Moore. They do seem to like the same type of DE - Johnson, Epenesa, Obada and now Rousseau. None of them profile as huge sack DE's, they are the 3-5 sack/season guys, who are more balanced run/pass. But an average starting DE is what you're going to get at the end of the 1st Round. They said it all week, that only 4 of 36 DEs taken with picks 25-32 have ever mustered double digit sacks since 2010 or so (Capaccio).

When you look at it, the Bills have the same body type DE over and over. Johnson is 6'6" 4.82 Obada is 6'6" 4.63 Epenesa is 6'6" 5.04 And now Rousseau is 6'6" 4.68 So there is redundancy there. You would think the DE's they would keep are Hughes, Addison, Epenesa, Rosseau and the last spot between Johnson and Obada because neither has been a starting caliber pro. DT is Oliver, Zimmer, Star, Butler, Phillips. Maybe the Bills try and trade Oliver while he still has draft stock upside and keep Zimmer? Because the way it stands now, Oliver is not an every down player, he's not been a difference maker.

I voted no because its the phrasing is strange. Would I be ok with whoever they pick? No, I think you can think critically and make a judgment on the pick.

He looks like an average starting DE to me. They said the same thing about Lawson, same thing about Epenesa, and now Rousseau. He looks like a 3-5 sack guy in the NFL. It's clear the Bills like prototypical size at DE, and a balanced player that can play run and pass. Just like Epenesa, he showed huge college production, but isn't an incredible athlete. If he was, the Bills wouldn't have got him at 30 anyways. The way the board fell, top corners gone, top RBs gone, it came down to three picks to me - Moore, Barmore and Samuel Jr. All guys graded in that 88-90 range. Bills picked another DE, and now it's clear that they need speed offensive player and cornerback.

He profiles a lot like Epenesa to me. Productive, long, but a bit sluggish on the athleticism. Hopefully NFL weight room and diet will start to round out the strength concerns.

This is where JJ Watt was a miss. It's not on the Bills if he didn't want to come here, but you're talking about difference makers, and there have been a few of those names dangled this offseason. Maybe the Browns would come off a Tight End, almost certainly that TE would be Njoku.

Yes he is, but you know what I mean. I would think if you want a proven starter, it takes combing through rosters/salary cap numbers and seeing if there are trades that can be made. The Falcons have a new Coach and up against the salary cap, maybe after tonight they are starting a full rebuild, or one last run with Matt Ryan, maybe some of their talent might be on the block. The Eagles are former contender, do they give up a Brandon Graham for instance?

32 years old, but Julio Jones can be had, would Dallas trade one of their WRs to save dollars, would Washington deal one of their DEs, are the Steelers willing to sell off any of their parts (maybe not because they are going for one last run with Ben), can you get KJ Wright to leave Seattle? My guess is, every organization looks over the rosters/salaries on other teams and thinks up possible trade scenarios.

I largely agree with your needs. I think we can get better on the Offensive Line. Cody Ford has been a near bust thus far, Morse has been ok as a high priced FA. But the interior can be improved. I think Defensive Line is a candidate for selection. Butler is ok (had a nice Ravens game), Oliver has been a disappointment, Star L is near the end of the line at that money, and Phillips is average. Age is the story at DE, because Hughes is 32, Addison is 33, going to 33 and 34 respectively by the time football season rolls around, and after those two its Johnson and Epenesa. No world beaters. And cornerback, its been Levi Wallace holding down the fort as the #2, while rotating in Josh Norman, EJ Gaines, Kevin Johnson, Vontae Davis type players. Running back is not a straight shot IMO. You've spent two 3rd Rounders on guys, signed Breida, and now are going to draft another? And we're sure Etienne is miles better than guys that fall out of the first. At most, 3 running backs will be taken in the 1st? Most likely 2.
