Mcshay Mock has Najee Harris to Buffalo
Rochesterfan replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No problem with it - if he runs between a 4.40 and 4.45. If as predicted he runs closer to a 4.55+ - then No - I want nothing to do with him. He was the top running back at a school with by far the best Oline - so I have no idea if he will be anything special, but his speed does not impress in highlights and I didn’t think he had to work for yardage. I am not sure if in the NFL he is much better than Moss or Singletary. If you are not getting a speed back in the sub 4.45 range - I think you are wasting your pick if you are the Bills. To me Harris just is not worth the pick - it is like CEH in KC. A first round pick that was no better than 3rd round guys like Singletary or Moss. Maybe he will develop, but you have a limited 4 years - if I am drafting in the first round with the critical 5th year option - I am not drafting RB. Harris becomes much better if I can shift back 10 picks into the 2nd round and acquire more picks, but not in the first. -
I have no problems if they want to offer him something in the 2 year range - not much money - and let him fight for a roster spot. I love the way he is our gadget guy when scouting teams - like being Hill or Jackson, but they barely use him on offense and I think you have some better guys up and coming. If he gets a better offer - let him go, but I think he is well liked and has a limited role.

I just don’t know. Brady did what he does - quick reads and quick short passes. He also got a lot of calls that benefited the offense. The throws he made could have been done by 90% of QBs in the NFL including a large number of back-ups and the fact the defense smothered KC - gives credence to the thought, but I look at Mahomes (or Josh) and they had those quick dump off throws and didn’t take them. I think far fewer QBs are comfortable enough to just take those throws and even fewer can read and make the split second decisions to make them consistently work. I think he did very little, but I am not going to assume guys that I think are better QBs could of done that well or done it that easily.

RIP Marty Schottenheimer

RIP - a great coach and a great man by accounts. 😥 -
I would really like to examine this. I don’t think Brady had much time most of the first half. The difference is Brady has learned to take quick check downs to RBs and TEs. The part of the Game Josh still needs to improve on. I think Brady was content most of the game getting rid of the ball in 2 seconds or less and just hitting the open player for 3-5 yards and moving on. I really think the running game had little impact, but the formations had a bigger impact. It was not that TB could run the ball because they were not very effective in the first half. It was that they could bring in 12 personnel with 2 TEs and a RB to force KC into a base defense and get the LBs on the field. Then attack the LBs with the quick passing game that kept the chains moving.

I agree with the ideas here, but the reason they could cover Kelce better was because of the pass rush more than anything else. They had to cover Kelce for a limited time - much shorter than Milano and Edmunds - so of course it looks better. In their first meeting with TB missing some DL and a more healthy OL for KC. Hill and Kelce put up 350 yards receiving on 21 receptions with only 2 incompletions. Kelce had more drops than that in the Super Bowl. I agree we need better DL to get more and better pressure and better OL to hold up in the middle, but if you put Edmunds on TB instead of David - Kelce gets covered for the 2.5 seconds and with Mahomes running backwards 10+ yards on several snaps - it gave the entire TB defense a better opportunity to force plays.
-
Totally disagree - the biggest difference in the 2 gameplans was that: 1) KC lost one of their best lineman at the end of the Bills game making the KC O-line significantly weaker in the Super Bowl. 2) TB had 2 guys outside and 2 guys inside on the DLine that could destroy any 1 on 1 blocking - meaning every snap 1-2 TB rushers were beating their men. The rest of the TB defense was nearly identical to what Buffalo ran. 2 Deep safeties- mostly off coverage with trying to double Hill and Kelce. The difference was the pass rush forcing Mahomes to throw in 2-3 seconds rather than 4-5 seconds. The extra time to pass allows Hill to stretch the Defense and pull defenders deep - opening more space for Kelce. The other big thing was the Kelce drops that multiple times kept drives going against Buffalo, but ended drives in the SB. 3) Officiating and Home field made a huge difference for KC. They got multiple ticky-tac calls against our DBs and nothing called on their DBs. In the SB it went the other way - KC got called for all of the close calls, the off sides, the PI, the holding calls and TB got away with the close calls. The Bills defensive game plan is the plan that works - drop 7 into coverage and double Hill and Kelce, but it requires a pass rush. Early in the season these 2 teams played and Hill destroyed TB because they could not get a pass rush going against the original KC OL. With out their Tackles - the DE/OLB combo could get up field and the DTs had their way with the guards/center combo and that prevented Hill from having time to break free for the completions.

Thoughts and prayers for Zerovoltz here
Rochesterfan replied to Aussie Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Totally disagree - he was below Average most game and made a few “sugar high” throws that Josh gets blasted for, but people love when Mahomes makes those throws. He should of been called for intentional grounding a couple of times as he rushed backwards 25-30 yards and threw the ball away out of bounds short of the LOS. The Two biggest throws he had were when he got spun around and threw the ball as he came back around and the one he was tripped up and launched a pass that should of been picked, but ended up hitting his own guy in the face mask. Josh had similar plays during the regular season and completed his falling pass to Beasley. I am at the point where I no longer think there is anything Mahomes can do that Josh can do. The difference right now is between the match-up between teams. -
Potential 2021 RB - SB streaker
Rochesterfan replied to DaggersEOD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope he slide to early - down at the 1 yard line maybe the 2. Not a good choice for running back - dive in and score - then Get back into the stands. -
Depends upon when the trade becomes official. The additional picks might push the “official” trade date back until later March - so the 16 million in bonuses is eaten by the Eagles- making his contract this year 15 million. Still a lot, but something you can work with. It sucks for Philly, but if it gets them the picks they need - they eat a year and move on.
-
It will be interesting to see what they get in return for Wentz. Could they include Ertz to boost the price and take back another TE? If they can get back 1st rounders does that give Philly a chance to go after Watson? Could 6 this year, 2 Indy picks, another high pick next year and Hurts get Houston enough to move Watson to the NFC? I just love these kinds of things. The NYJ and Miami still seem better with a definite shot at the #2 QB, but Philly’s pick might not be bad especially if you want to move him out of the AFC.

I just hate this let’s blame the NFL style take. If you don’t like it don’t watch, but then you should avoid flying, health insurance, other sport leagues, most other major brands, etc. Just a quick google search showed multiple major companies CEO’s getting arrested in the last 2 years for drunk driving. Another quick search showed several CEO’s getting arrested for domestic violence and a third search shows CEOs getting arrested for sexual abuse. It includes companies like NASCAR, American Airlines, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Maybe the NFL is more like a normal employer as it happens at all levels of employment and people with convictions get hired all the time (as they should after serving their time or penalty). The rate of issues in the NFL of these types of things is actually lower than within the general population and the NFL does many more good things for people in need. The truth is those good things are generally not news worthy because they will not make people click on links, but a horrible NFL Domestic violence story or a horrible story like this is going to generate a ton of clicks - so you will get the story and you will get 50 - 100 opinion pieces and follow-ups because those will drive clicks. I do wish the NFL was tougher on some things - like Frank Clark/Tyreek Hill issues and drug issues like Josh Gordon would get permanent bans, but the NFL does punish and can’t ban because that is the agreement with the union.

Joe B article speculates John Brown will be cut
Rochesterfan replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure I get this - I don’t expect they will be trying to sign Stills as he is a FA and was just paid comparable to Brown. He is not on the Bills and is a FA. I also think a Healthy Stills in 2021 does outperform 2020 Brown, but I also think a healthy Brown in 2021 outperforms a 2020 Brown or a healthy 2021 Stills. Stills missed more games than Brown last year and had a worse season both before being cut and then never seeing the field again. -
I agree there are some differences, but McD did say it was a coaching decision and he wanted to “ride” the hot hand. So I took it to be - especially with the Arizona injuries to the D-line - that the team was putting together a more run centric offense and felt similar to the NE game - they wanted to see what this team could do. It became apparent that the ends and LBs were quicker and holding up and therefore that line was not a final stop. They finished the game and immediately the OL was returned to Morse at Center and Mongo at Guard. I think they realized Mongo is good, but at Center the rest of the line inside was weak and the best line going forward was Morse at Center, Mongo and Ike at Guard. That stabilized things, but still left issues. I think they want improvement on the O-Line - I am just not sure they can move on from Morse as the savings is minimum and it would cost more for Mongo and then we still have openings that need to be filled. If this was next year where you get bigger savings from Morse - then maybe they switch, but I think we are going to be stuck with an OL very similar for 2021 to our 2020 line.
-
This is a ridiculous argument, but let’s play. If Josh Allen missed a few games like Morse and then was not cleared until the middle of the week and Barkley was 2-0 and the team put together a game plan he could work with - then yes maybe Josh waits. We saw it with Milano this year, Moss this year, Brown, Singletary last year, etc. The Bills very much rely on the training staff to decide and even if guys are “cleared” - the Bills have given guys extra weeks throughout the last few years. Center is one of the most important positions and although we know Morse was cleared - we do not know anything beyond that and maybe the Bills thought they could use the OLine like they did against NE and then regroup over the bye.
-
Do you think so? I am not sure at 9 - who you would expect to be available that someone wants to move up enough to give up multiple first round picks. I think they took a sure thing along with a better QB than a potential trade that may never be available and a worse QB.
-
Honestly - The #9 pick in this draft does very little for Detroit and they need to figure out who is staying and who is going. I think they were more enticed by 2 future picks and Goff - than Drew Lock and a single pick this year and I am not sure I disagree. This years draft and process is so messed up - now is the time to clear players, begin the process of establishing your future team and then you begin next year refilling the talent pool with multiple picks.
-
Agreed - it was even talked about in the Rams/SeaHawks game several times. During the week Goff was having trouble gripping the ball to make throws. His accuracy and ability to throw beyond 5-10 yards was greatly hindered. Therefore - the decision to start Wolford because even with his lack of experience he could handle more throws than Goff. Goff though knew significantly more of the playbook than Bortles and therefore even injured provided more as a potential back-up that could help Wolford out. The idea being that Goff never has to see the field, but can help identify what the SeaHawks were doing and help Wolford get into better plays. Then early Wolford gets knocked out and you see why the Rams struggled with the decision - Goff that game was all over the place and really could not throw a pass with any velocity and/or accuracy. I do not think the starting of Wolford was a sign of their dislike of Goff - that was evident throughout the year at various times and comments by McVay. I think Goff generally had issues during the week and was not ready to go, but was still better than the third string and the staff mad a choice - similar to the Bills dressing Davis, Brown, and Beasley or the Jets dressing Becton. There is a lot that goes into those choices and with limited options - sometimes you make a choice like dressing Goff hoping and expecting him not to play.
-
No kidding, but most people seem to think LA had to throw an extra 1st and a 3rd to include Goff. The poster I was responding to basically said the Panthers was a better offer with just the number 8 this year rather than 2 #1s and Goff. I don’t think that is necessarily the case. Especially as you need time to build and regrow the team.
-
I guess it depends upon what you think about the upcoming drafts. Maybe they view multiple picks going forward as better than the #8 pick this year, especially if they truly think they are 2 or 3 years away and need to revamp the entire roster. This years draft with the lack of college games played and no combine and limited visits makes it much more difficult. Maybe the Lions think the next couple of years will allow better scouting and player development than this off season. Just a few thoughts on that. Now if Carolina offered the #8 and a number 1 next year and maybe Bridgewater - then maybe I think the Lions just did the Rams a favor, but the fact that the picks are next year and the year after does not bother me because I would have a longer term view in Detroit.
-
Tyrod doesn’t throw picks because he won’t throw the ball. He would be literally one of the worst QBs to put into a pass first/limited run offense. If Tyrod wants to be a back-up - he should go to Baltimore where the QB runs more than passes - that is where he fits. Not on a pass first - high volume passing attack. It would look like the Jacksonville playoff game all over again. 🤦♂️
-
Hap - spot on take. I think the Bills would like Barkley back, but I am not sure they want to pay him any more than they did these last 2 years and may think there is small savings to be had. I think the Bills have their 3 guys under contract and will be looking to add a camp body at this point. If that extra body is Barkley - great for him, but it would not shock me to see someone else fill that role.
