I definitely think this is true 10+ years ago when they were a winning program, but I am not sure it rings true with the societal changes and the string of bad coaches that have rolled through USC since Carrol snuck out the back door before the NCAA hit them. I think at this point they are looking for a clean guy that can win and not a guy that has been run out of 3 college programs for potential violations and then “fired” from the NFL for this conduct. I could be wrong - I know USC wants to win badly as that entire conference has been run out of college football in recent years, but I just can’t see him as even a potential option with how he has handled his recent departures and then this issue.
-
Honestly - I think this issue kills any shot at USC for him. It is a really bad look for anyone - let alone what would become a college coach to be doing that with a young girl. It would open up questions of his influence on other college aged girls and I do not see a college anywhere that takes him until this settles down. I also think based upon his decisions to bring in a slime ball athletic trainer and trying to slip that in and the way he handled the team so far - mixed with this and his other fines - I think the owner should suspend and then fire WITH CAUSE Urban and get out of paying him any more money. You have a potential franchise QB there - don’t ruin him with this slime ball HC.

Beth Mowins to call Bills-Texans
Rochesterfan replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See I totally am the other way- to me Beth’s voice is just terrible and I can’t listen at all. It physically bothers me listening to that voice. Maddy’s voice is different and doesn’t bother me at all. It is not a smooth voice, but it does not bother me. I also find that she knows sports in general and to me asks better questions than Chris Brown. She really just needs to get her confidence up. I totally can understand how one person can go one way and someone hears something different - that is fine - we just need to be accepting that we each bring our own feelings and background into this. What we all should agree on as Bills fans though is that Chris Collinsworth is a friggin Patriots Ball Washer - whether you like his voice or not - he is 100% biased in his reporting. -
Beth Mowins to call Bills-Texans
Rochesterfan replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The number #1 thing for a play by play person on either TV or Radio is voice. They are going to be talking throughout most of the game and if that person has a terrible voice or their “voice is grating” - they will sound bad. After the voice comes content - can they cover what is happening and do they process the plays and provide appropriate feedback. Reading through the thread - the vast majority of people seem to agree - she knows her stuff, but her voice is like listening to fingernails on a chalk board - therefore the majority do not like her. I have heard very few say that she can’t do the “job” - there are a lot of people saying she shouldn’t do the job because she basically ruins a broadcast. There are many other announcers that have a smoother voice and sound good, but don’t provide the content or are hard to listen to because they make mistakes everywhere. Beth does not fall into this group of bad announcers at all as far as I am concerned. I think there is something about her voice that just really bothers some people and therefore for those people she is a terrible listen. My son was sitting there and this is his first time hearing her and without prompting was like “Dad - you need to mute this that voice is horrible”. He didn’t know anything about her - he didn’t even know it was a women until a bit into the game, but the voice was so bad we had to mute it so he could watch it. It is no different than Maddy Glab and Chris Brown on One Bills Live. I personally don’t like to listen to Chris Brown at all - there is something about the inflection of voice and the way he goes from normal tone to practically screaming that makes him a hard listen, but Maddy doesn’t bother me much at all. For others Maddy’s voice is just terrible and they can’t listen to her at all. So I guess for me - I hope this is the last time we ever have Beth Mowers call a game - her voice to me is a total disaster and as that is the primary means of her job - to me she is an absolute failure at it. I would 100% prefer to listen to a smooth voiced person that doesn’t know anything - because I do not rely on them to provide content - I can see what is happening- they are just part of the background noise. We actually enjoy making fun of those announcers that are bad and it makes the experience funnier - as opposed to this weekend where we had to mute the majority of the broadcast because her voice was annoying and therefore lose the background ambiance. -

Really - I have 5 within 5 minutes of my house in Rochester and 2 more at Gas stations. We also have 2 Tim Hortons, but they hardly ever have anyone there. The Dunkins are almost always busy. -

Nope - her horrid voice broke the stadium. -
That is not the issue though comparing Ford and Teller - they were not keeping a poor performing 5th round pick over a potential tackle in Ford just drafted in rd#2. Teller was here and struggled and the team wanted to try and get better. They brought in 4 new experienced interior offensive lineman - so they were not going to wait to see if a guy could develop - they were looking for more immediate impact. That preseason Teller was outplayed by all the veterans and was not going to make the team. Beane had a choice - cut him and hope to place him on the practice squad as a further developmental guy or trade him and try to get something. Beane said in the press conference - the team liked Teller, but they could get something for him and did not think he would clear waiver. The fact that he went to Cleveland and was below average that year - showed the Bills made the right choice at the time. They wanted to get better at protecting Josh and having a better pass blocking O-Line. Teller developing last year is great for Cleveland, but that would have meant the Bills needed to keep him for an additional year and since he was not beating out anyone - would he have developed without playing? We also do not know what the impact on the Bills and Josh Allen if instead of Spain and Mongo as veteran guards - the Bills had tried to play Teller instead. Would his struggles have impacted the development of Josh in 2019?
-
With Buffalo in 2018 - Teller was graded as a 60 - below average. With Cleveland in 2019 - Teller actually got worse and graded as a 56. So what exactly does that show you - He was well on his way to bombing out with his grade in 2019 mirroring Cody Ford at guard last year - who graded out at a 55. So yes current day Wyatt Teller would be great on this team, but you can’t say - boy the Bills can’t evaluate talent when the guy they traded still took multiple years after the trade to develop. Sometimes guys find the right scheme and fit with a staff and get better and I do not see where on the Bills that playing time was coming from.
-
Then explain this - why in his first year in Cleveland was he one of the Leagues worst guards? If he was so great - why did the Cleveland fan base want to move on. It is one thing to argue this if he had gone to Cleveland and immediately showed anything, but he didn’t. It was not until they changed schemes and got a run first head coach that he excelled. He started 1/2 a season in Buffalo and was adequate at run blocking, but was Cody Ford level pass blocking. The team then brought in Long, Spain, and Mongo to fill the o-line and Teller was not better than them at the time. It wasn’t an issue evaluating him - he just wasn’t a good pass blocker. He gets traded to Cleveland in the final year of a regime and the start of the Mayfield era and that OL is a disaster. Mayfield had no time to throw - they had terrible guard and tackle play. Then in comes a new coach and a new philosophy and he thrives. He needed both the playing time and the scheme to develop and in Buffalo he was not going to get that. Do you honestly think if the Bills don’t trade him and they mange to put him on the PS that he develops the same way? Maybe you do believe it, but based upon the fact that year 1 in Cleveland showed little - I think it is more likely that with the playing time, a new scheme, and improved coaching to focus on what he does best - allowed him to become a better version of himself and being 10th on a depth chart here was not changing that.
-
Absolutely correct. The other issue with hindsight analysis is it is all based upon a series of events that then does not happen with the change. If the Bills (or anyone else) draft Brady - does he ever become the Tom Brady. Probably not. Most teams give very little look to a sixth round underdeveloped QB, but he got his chance and ran with it with the perfect team to allow him time to develop and become who he is. Wyatt Teller on the Bills - never solves our guard problem. He played 1/2 a season with us and was Ike or Cody level. We traded him to Cleveland and that first season he was one of the worst starting guards in the league. He was where everyone complains about Cody Ford being. He couldn’t pass block at all and was barely passable as a run blocker. Teller changed when the coaching staff changed and they went to a heavy run formation and run blocking scheme. I doubt Wyatt Teller on the Bills ever develops in that same way because the technique and strength he had and built was in the run blocking game and as a pass first team - we would not have asked nor developed those characteristics. It is the dumbest thing ever to say can you image If we had never traded Teller - yes I can - he would have been cut if he hadn’t been traded because he was not better than the top 10 linemen here at the time. Good for him to develop, but even better for him that he got on a team that happened to change staffs to his perfect fit. 🤦♂️

Waddle was going to be the difference maker for Tua. Quick short area movements and a QB that can only throw short passes. They went in one way to help Tua and it hurts them long term when Tua still looks bad in camp and then the regular season. Waddle is a nice piece, but without a QB that is not a helpful chess piece for Miami.

Should the Bulls and NYS pair with the Bills?
Rochesterfan replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well with the Bears moving to Arlington Heights - the Bulls want to follow suit! 😂 -
I am pretty sure that Watson is not a good person. I think he would fit perfectly in the Andy Reid - KC abusive home. Maybe KC can trade Mahomes - who is just punchable for a really bad person at QB. Come on Andy - we know you want another Sexual Predator to go with your other criminal cases. Go ahead make the call today. 🤦♂️

Jacksonville is historically bad...
Rochesterfan replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well to be fair - they weren’t satisfied until they went 1-15. I can’t imagine winning game #1 against a playoff team and then dumping the next 15 - what a joke. The worst thing is looking at their schedule they might only be the 3rd or 4th worse team on that schedule by the end. They have the Texans again, the Falcons, and the Jets. That should be an amazing Christmas game - Jets/Jags for the #1 pick - the winner gets 💩 under 🎄. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
Rochesterfan replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
Where I disagree is that without having Joshes contract done - you are not sure of the final length you are getting - nor the years he is willing to be lower with salary and years he is higher in salary. His contract is very non-standard in both length and structure. Beane even said they had a lot of give and take on structure for things Josh wanted versus things the Bills wanted. If you look at his contract structure - they very directly had years with more salary and years with less salary and Beane in his post signing contest specifically mentioned this as a way to re-sign other players that they draft and develop. One of the years that is lower is next year - a decrease of 8-10 million from his 5th year option number. I think that gives Beane the flexibility to decide can I get an Edmunds deal done at what I want and if not I now have the money to let him play on that 5th year option and move on if needed. You talk about Tre and Josh as being signed because they are elite and I think you can even throw Dawkins in there, but this year (and next year) the cap is still impacted by the COVID situation and Beane had less to work with than his original planning called for. He mentioned in interviews he had been planning and structuring contracts knowing he had 2 1st round picks and one being the QB coming up this off season. I think that plays very much into the decision making. I think if Edmunds was a dominating All-Pro - I still think The Allen deal gets done first and they are in the same boat. That was the #1 priority that had to happen. Where things change to me is if he was on Josh’s or Tre’s level would be that Milano does not get re-signed. They then use part of his money to boost Edmunds deal. I think they have a slotted value for Edmunds right now that they want - SPOTRAC mentions 14-16 million AAV and in interviews with the creator of SPOTRAC- he has specifically mentioned Beane has routinely come in with AAV’s 1-2 million below his projections. My guess is that slots him in with an AAV very close to his 5th year option - so they had no reason to rush the deal. We will see, but I still think they are going to find a way to get an extension done that will free up some additional cap space and allow them to retain at least 1 or 2 additional players next year - with a look at Taron Johnson being the 1st target. If they don’t get the extension done - then I think that puts his future in doubt here and probably costs up at least I additional re-sign. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
Rochesterfan replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
Listening again to Beane’s press conference after signing Josh - he specifically mentions needing to get the Allen deal done so they would know what funds they had left and when to allow them to sign or re-sign other players that they have drafted and developed. I think the 2 contracts are very much dependent on each other. I agree they were not working solely on Josh’s contract, but they were working on the term and bonuses - so they know when they have money and when they don’t. Beane even mentioned he and Josh had a conversation before he could even sign as to ideas they wanted and it still took 6 months to find the common ground and almost had to go until next off season. Once they got the terms and length in place - they know exactly how much they have to work out the extension for Edmunds if they want. They were never signing Edmunds before the Allen deal was done - they needed to ensure they had maximum flexibility for Allen’s deal. That was always priority #1. You say Edmunds has not been extended because of his play, but I guess what would have been the rush in trying to sign him before Josh. I don’t think you are right - I think there was no needed rush to sign Edmunds because he was under contract this year at a very reasonable rate - that the Bills really had no reason to change. Therefore the best extension for Edmunds would be later this year or in the off season before the 5th year option kicks in. Then they get the cheap year this year and can adjust his salary down next year and use the savings to sign others. We will see where it goes - I just don’t see any logic to your point of well if they didn’t sign him already with 2 years left - they must not think he is worth it. Pretty sure they just re-signed Williams, Mongo, and Milano just days before hitting the market, but based on your logic - they didn’t really want them back. -
States right on the website - you will be billed upon order. Shipment can be anywhere from several days to 8+ weeks depending upon order. Any custom elite jersey takes 2 months to customize and ship. It is all right in the order/shipping section.

Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
Rochesterfan replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
So did Milano, Williams, and Mongo - yet all took below market value to come back - no reason to believe Edmunds who seems to like this staff and this FO can’t find a manageable middle ground - I would assume someplace around his 5th year option is the sweet spot. Based upon your above contract I would not think he would get signed, but if he wants an AAV of 12-14 million over 4 years in an extension plus the 5th year - you could easily do: 2022 - 25 M signing bonus + 3 million salary = 8 M Cap (savings of almost 5 million next year) 2023 - 5M salary = 10 M Cap (can covert to roster bonus to spread out) New TV money hits 2024 - 8 M Salary = 13 million Cap 2025 - 8 M Salary = 13 million cap 2026 - 11 M Salary = 16 million cap That would be a 4 year 48 million extension plus the 12 million for the 5th year option - essentially right in the 12 million a year range they are willing to pay on the option. You can also massage the numbers up or down - especially later and get more savings upfront. You can also use roster bonuses and work out bonuses to spread out more. Beane could also break the signing bonus up to make the savings year 1 and 2 even more with both still guaranteed. Allowing them to retain more players. You gave him a 4 year 70 million extension or about 17.5 million per season. I think that is higher than they are willing to go. I could even see meeting in the middle of ours and going up to 55 million and add ~2 - million more to the last 3 years making it 13.7 AAV on the extension. There are a ton of options some palatable and some less so. The question becomes where do they slot him - versus where does he slot himself. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
Rochesterfan replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not necessarily. They can work out an extension and have a lower AAV. It all depends upon what they agree to. He could look for more or he could take money up front and then adjust the AAV throughout. There is no rule that he has to be that high, but he could want that since that is where he would be without an extension. We have no idea what has been discussed - we only know that Beane stated he wanted to get Allen done 1st and then look at others once he had Allen’s cap hits figured out. -
For me - I don’t care about it if they want to talk about New York Teams and included the Bills in that discussion. I believe it ticks most people off because they talk about the NY teams as if only the NYJ and NYG play in NY and the Bills are some Pennsylvania or Ohio team. That then has become a rallying point - don’t say NY unless you mean all 3 or we are going to turn it around and point out the 2 NYC teams technically play in NJ. If the media wants to lump the 2 teams together without Buffalo - talk about NYC teams - not New York teams. I honestly just think it is hilarious and love it when a guy like Josh uses it to drive the dagger a bit deeper in his interviews. I was ticked at the recruiter also as not only did they do a poor job of screening, but never even helped the poor guy understand. He was a recent grad and I am pretty sure we were his first or second ever interview. Even after realizing the issue - we still completed the interview just to give him some experience.
