I am guessing Tenuta with a father as a coach around football - had a high football IQ and many times those guys can overcome some athletic limitations and are very coachable. He looked like he was really struggling in games, but with the right NFL program and coaching - who knows where he might be next year. All that said I prefer the 2 guys on the ps and wouldn’t have minded getting back Anderson or Owens either.

Beane addresses the 53- man roster decisions
Rochesterfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
He didn’t say I wanted a veteran punter all along. He said right now they wanted a veteran punter because they needed someone that could get in and adapt to the holding within 5-6 practices. Pretty sure the media all understood that. He was going with a rookie that had 4 months to get up to speed - now there is a week. 🤦♂️ -
Yeah “dog farts” - sure. The dog is confused because the wind came from you. 😂

Agreed - we disagree, but since Beane has said he utilizes him on contracts and all cap issues - what does it tell you about Jim if they no longer “need” to use him, but choose to use him for signings? Considering he was so bad - seems strange that Beane not only did not get rid of him, but has promoted him to Senior VP and his assistant. They also leave Jim as lead negotiator for most contracts, but yeah your probably right - he is terrible at his job because of things done under bad GMs and ownership.
-
He did what the GM wanted. For example he argued to put offsets in on Dareus and was told not to because they were afraid of him not signing. And Beane has stated several times what an asset he is and how much he knows about the cap. He also was forced to do cash to the cap and everyone blamed him, but in comes a different owner and bam - suddenly he can do all types of contracts. He has a standard contract with all types of offsets built - pulling them out is typically the purview of the GM at the time. Beane was given many options including removing Jim and bringing in new people - nearly the entire FO was replaced, but he kept Overdorf and still uses 5+ years later.

Beane addresses the 53- man roster decisions
Rochesterfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
We want a veteran punter since we are 1 week from kickoff and they need to work on all facets of special teams. It might be a different answer if it 4 months from kick-off and they have all of training camp to work on snaps and holds. We we’re prepared to go with a rookie that had 3 months practice showing he could handle the holding - at this time rather than grab another rookie that was cut - you go with someone you can trust to be ready in 8 days. -
Lots of former Bills littering that list. This front office must be doing something right - for all the complaining some people do.

Tre White to PUP list, out first 4 games
Rochesterfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they were hoping for a game #1 or #2 return, but I think with everything going on and the practice and preseason play of the DBs - they felt they could use the PUP list and give him extra time. Even week 6 puts him mid-October - the injury was Thanksgiving and the surgery was in December- so week 6 really puts you at 10 months from surgery. I think if the Bills were not deep at DB this year - they probably do not PUP White and target game 3 or so, but they feel they have the time and the first 4 games are not all big passing offenses - so give him time. -
Which player on the roster baffles you that they are on this team?
Rochesterfan replied to Wizard's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well it is your loss because what I find is that because he is out there and has cultivated the relationship - he knows more about what is going on than most others - especially people on this board. He had been telling those that listened - don’t be surprised if Sweeney makes it - the staff thought he had a great camp - he was catching everything and Howard was struggling. He talked about Cam Lewis and using him at safety and how that was the last piece for him making this roster. Maybe he is a shill, but if being a shill means you get the legitimate knowledge of what is going on with little bits filtered out because of things he can’t say - compared to other media members that spout crap because you want to hear it - give me the facts. Everything he has said was coming up correct or he said it was down to these 2 depending on roster make-up. For example - he had Hodgins out because he could not separate against the 4’s and he was weak at the point of attack on ST. Therefore he had Kumerow making it. Kumerow is less polished as a receiver, but gets separation even versus the 1’s and blocks better. Plus he is way better at ST. That isn’t shilling- that is stating what the team is looking for in a #6 WR and why Kumerow has and edge. He talked extensively about Cam Lewis versus Nick McCloud as a final roster spot and how going into camp McCloud had the edge because he had corner/safety flexibility and that was the request of the team to Cam. Cam stepped up and has outside/slot/ and now safety flexibility giving him the edge. You could learn a lot because reading your posts it seems you miss a lot of what and why teams do things. -

Because he is a free roster spot at 0 cost. If after 6 weeks there are no injuries - you cut him for nothing. Why wouldn’t they keep a free player? -

Woods is no longer on the team - so he can sit in any hole he wants week 1. Kupp will be covered by Johnson - most likely with safety help shaded his way. Robinson is the primary outside receiver- and he has been mostly about getting deep - so my guess is they will shade the single high safety to that side and try to protect deep. I am pretty sure you will see a combination of man/zone on the other side with both Elam and Benford in the game. It might be frustrating because the Rams are a good team, but I think the idea of signing a veteran DB was never happening- a guy like Haden just is no longer a better player than the rookies - and if you are getting someone better - you have to get rid of some depth or you lack money for Von Miller. -

Sure - not like he has coached Football, established relationships with players and staff, told people how it was with players like Blackshear, Hodgins, and Howard - when everyone tweeting at him said we had to keep those 3 guys and he said they wouldn’t. He is well connected and knows enough about not only football, but the coaching side that he can tell you what is going on, but go ahead and think he does it just to shill to the team. If he was going to tell people what they wanted to hear - wouldn’t he be talking about cutting Taiwan, Tyler, Sweeney, and Kumerow and how Blackshear and Hodgins are on the team instead. 🤦♂️ -

Better than some people on this board - at least he knows what he is talking about. -

But isn’t Kupp almost exclusively in the slot and therefore Taron’s match up? Robinson is their real only outside threat and they should be able to use the safety to help cover deep. I am more worried about them using Kupp to get a TE open by attacking the middle of the field. -

I don’t know, but Sal must have mentioned it a dozen times or more. Sweeney was always doing the right things in practice and catches nearly everything. Howard was struggling to even figure out what he was doing, was out of position, and was having drop issues. Most of the media I heard - thought Howard was bad enough he did not deserve to be on the team and most thought his salary was enough that Beane would keep him just to avoid looking bad. I think this is a bow shot to the team - salary doesn’t matter - I am willing keep our guys if you perform better. -

Why do you think it is coaching that keeps people from excelling at ST. Across the league - there are a ton of special team only guys that really have no position on the field. Much like other players they spend a ton of time practicing their role and watching film to prepare for the opponent. Guys can be found and molded to become gunners, but then they will not have the time to devote to being a full time player at another position and basically you replace a special teams player with different ST only player. Guys like Taiwan, Tyler, even Kumerow spend time preparing for their special teams role and then making sure that other players are versed in what needs to be done because they have not had the time to study the film and know the full gameplan. We saw it back in the day with Tasker and Mark Pike - neither played more than a handful of snaps at their “positions” because they worked to hone the craft of special teams. Late in his career they talked about using Tasker more as a WR, but he said that really interfered with his special teams play. It hurt his coverage ability and his preparation time. -
Athletic article about former Bills CB Kevin Seymour

Did it on purpose - sorry. -
Because if you put them on IR before the final 53 - they are out for the season and cannot be activated. If they are on the 53 - then can then go to IR and get reactivated as needed.
-
It also plagues him that he has no footspeed and no ability to separate. Every catch is a contested catch and that just is not worth the roster spot if he can not contribute elsewhere.
-
We will not add a punter till Wednesday and may sign 1-2 to the PS and use a call up instead of an active roster spot until they settle everything. No need to rush to sign a punter.

I think the Bills recognize that Bradin, Eli, and Prince on the DL all are PS potential players that they will cut today. If Bryant gets picked up - they have 2 other guys in the wings to make due. The same goes with Blackshear and Duke Johnson. There is a good chance 1 of the 2 is available to go onto the PS. I will be interested to see Anderson and OL depth to the PS. Bobby Hart and Van Rotten both have more than 4 years so like Barkley - one or both may already have a PS position lined up to get people through.
