Not sure I really get this. Do you know what the Bills staff really thought of these guys or what they were looking for in a PS DT? Maybe Smart said something, but just looking at him as a highly religious person - I would doubt it. I would more hazard a guess they were looking for a more stout run stopper on the DL - more along the lines of Slayton who they are bringing in. I heard good things about Smart also, but in the end they can only keep so many and my guess is it was more about the Bills allowing him to leave rather than Smart saying something and causing him to get cut. I think if Vincent Taylor had not been claimed - neither guy makes the PS, but with Taylor getting claimed maybe the Bills decide size was more important. I would just be really hesitant to assume that Smart acted out and it “sealed his fate”. Just does not seem in character.

Based upon the list released by the Bills and on the web site - these are the 17 members of the PS. Kumerow and Slayton are not listed and the PS is full. To add these 2 - they will need to cut 2 of the guys above.

Once Kumerow and Slayton clear protocol it will be interesting to see what changes they make. Is it Duke and Zimmerman gone (matching positions)? Or is it the extra TE, DB, or OL - maybe even DE? I am sure that they would love to keep all of these guys. What a nice dilemma to have - to much talent.

Plus it allows them to sign 2 additional players and get them some info and planning in case either deal falls through. My guess is this impacts Duke Williams as a PS player.

Philadelphia has 41 year old Josh McCown on their PS. Players will sign as needed. Money was not the issue. No surprise if you follow the NFL. Went exactly as expected.

Do you have a source for this? I have not seen the conditions that were agreed to. If it was snap or plays based as a Buffalo Bill - the conditions might still be met and they would still get the pick. If the condition was making the initial roster (typical) then yes the Bills would get their pick back. I have been looking, but have not seen a tweet on the conditions of the pick.

Holy God - just give it up. Yes they will fill all 17 of their spots. Andre Roberts will be back on the primary roster. Players will be activated more frequently because the PS rules for the year. Why would any team not take advantage of the space especially with it taking 3-5 days to get someone onto the team.

Sweeney is already on PUP - 6 weeks till he will return. There is another shoe that will drop. Maybe a trade or we see who makes it through waivers to decide who else to chance - maybe Fromm if Webb makes it through? Maybe a RB?

Yeah his 75+% approval rating and over 83% approval of his COVID handling suggest that most people can’t stand him. LOL - get real. He has screwed up - admitted mistakes - and most importantly listened to the science and positioned NY to be more open than most states.

Agreed - 3rd round pick - traded with a 6th for a 4th that was the Raiders fourth the week before. Just a weird series and not sure how he fits with Miami.

This exactly - ask Steve Tasker about this option. It has been this way for years with little push back - teams assume the risk.

I would not expect it. Carolina was going to cut the guy. If teams want the loop hole covered - they do that via the conditions. The conditional 7th could be based on making the team, could be on playing time/games snaps, could be based on being named to any roster (active or PS). The NFL should not have to police this - this is team to team based. Carolina was going to cut him- now we are - the risk moved from them to us. Carolina lost nothing an may still get a pick depending on the conditions. It hurts them not at all and moved the risk to the Bills to lose him via waivers.

Would not surprise me in the least if Smith is called back up when Mongo goes to IR. I think they felt he could slide through and it may negate the loss of the conditional pick. Win-Win

What? I don’t expect the Bills to use 16 PS spots - I expect they will keep Wade on his designation and keep 17 PS players. If the league has any issues and adds more spots the Bills will fill those also. They will have some Vets and some young players and they will figure it out. I really do not see how anyone would think different - it makes no sense for a team not to have a full compliment. I also expect Beane will bring in guys weekly and will routinely adjust 3-4 of these guys depending upon injuries and gameplans - just like the last 2 seasons as he looks for those diamonds for next year.

For me - I’d go back to the Championship team - Jack Kemp or Mike Stratton just to hear them relive the moments. That was well before my time and I would just love to hear the stories. I may even accept Lou Saban, but would be afraid he would run out on me for another lunch on a college campus somewhere. The 90’s team - I lived in Hamburg and knew several of the players - so although their stories are great - I have heard many before. I love those guys, but would be intrigued by the 1960’s squad. Currently - The HC and GM both would be great and Allen seems fun and I would enjoy that very much.

This is true once they clear waivers, but if a team (GB/SF) has their eyes on one or two guys in particular - their waiver wire spot is low enough they may miss out. Much like the Bills did with Andre Smith - sometimes you throw a 7th rounder out to ensure you get your guy. A lower/bad team should be using the waiver wire to their advantage and not trading, but picking these guys up free and clear. Until they clear waivers - the players do not get a choice.

Actually it makes what he has done even more remarkable- many teams are in a lot worse shape going into next year with the projected drop. Because of how he fixed the cap - we are in a good place to continue to sign our own guys. Teams like the Eagles are in a death spiral right now because they have been living on the increase in the cap to get by year over year. A shrinking cap just kills them.
