Doesn’t matter - they can challenge (just as McDermott did) at the start of the 4th as long as no plays have been done. Should of been a TD. Bizarre ruling on the field and then a total lack of common sense by replay once again this week. At the end of the half (within 2 minutes) there are no challenges - all challenges are initiated by the upstairs ref. Does not have any impact.

[Incomplete Title] Down 14 in 4th Quarter
Rochesterfan replied to djp14150's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would be true down 15 or 16 - why go for 2 when only down by 14. In the final standings - both teams still lost. Jags by 8 and Detroit by 6. Both still needed another TD. -
[Incomplete Title] Down 14 in 4th Quarter

Commentators were right - down 14 makes no sense. Eight points leaves it as 6 - a FG still makes it a two score game. Take the point and then you still have to score again. You want to win go for 2 at the end. The 2 points just does not help enough to make the risk. Also fix the title and the initial post so that people can read it please. -
Why does this keep getting stated. The NFL wanted to bubble - the NFLPA refused to bubble for the season - it was to long and players from the NHL and NBA complained about it and the NFLPA was not going to deal with it. The NFL will handle each situation and have contingency plans if needed. I actually feel better about them finishing than I did before.
-
McDermott talked about that on WGR. The Protocol on trips is pretty defined. The flight lands - players go to the hotel and are bubbled - they are not allowed to leave the hotel until they travel to the game. I think most teams are following protocol pretty intensely. McDermott said it is actually easier on the road as players are more used to that when teams travel. There are more freedoms at home.

Totally disagree - why do you assume they don’t have plans? They talked prior to the season that they have flexibility- including adjusting the Super Bowl. Just because they have not announced all of their plans to you - does not mean they do not have plans. Jerry Jones talked on air last week about fining teams and taking draft picks and that prior to the season the owners had discussed multiple scenarios, but they were not baking them in automatically- the plan was to try and keep it is normal as possible and adjust as needed.
-
This is absolutely true - on a normal year. The Super Bowl is played in a nice city with lots of tourists and lots of other events. This year those tourists are way down, number of fans is way down that can go, number of media and events in the city have been curtailed - if the NFL decides they want to move the Super Bowl back - this is the one year they can do it. They would have the ability to shift the date with less other events going on - or even move the venue because there are fewer events happening. I believe early on before the season started - the NFL stated the Tampa area was free 3 weeks later and was available as a fall back date if needed. They would review that and adjust from there. I believe the NFL has built in a ton of contingency plans - most just have not been shared. People are freaking out like they don’t have a plan and that is crazy. CFB - they don’t have a plan - what is happening in college football is a disgrace. Some leagues postponed the season and are now being forced to reconsider, some teams are postponing games, others are playing with an obvious outbreak occurring. They have no set of rules or testing they are following and they are just out for the money. The NFL has a plan, but it is being tested right now. They are adjusting and will try to get through. They stated early on if outbreaks start occurring - they would look at every option including pausing the season for a week or two to get everyone way for 10 days and hitting reset. They have contingency plans to be able to move the Super Bowl back if needed and they had plans to shift Sunday games back to Monday-Tuesday to allow for additional testing. They added additional PS players to allow people to slide to COVID IR and still get games in. All of their plans are being tested and some are going to fail and need adjusting. Ideally they would have bubbled, but the NFLPA was against that - maybe this changes their mind and that gets adjusted? I expected hiccups about this time - how the NFL reacts is the next step, but I am actually more confident that they are going to get through this than I was this summer - probably with some more disturbances, but eventually get through the season and have a champion.

Can’t really say. If we had drafted Mahomes - I have been fairly consistent that I do not believe he would be anywhere near as good as he is in KC. The coach and the team is an ideal fit for him and that allowed the growth and ability for him to become an MVP and Super Bowl champ. I also Tre and Josh are good fits for Buffalo - so to me it was a win:win. The best player of the group is Mahomes on KC - so I feel KC won the trade, but I think both teams got what they needed and it worked out.
-
I do not believe the team gets the results alone. The results go to the team and the NFL. They are not hiding anything. The tests are all being sent to national labs. They also have quick tests available for follow-up. The NFL is also having the lab do NP swabs and sensitive PCR to confirm. It sounds like each positive is followed up with 2 additional tests to help confirm and make sure they are isolated properly.

I don’t get this at all. The original plan for Tennessee and Pittsburgh was exactly what the plan is for NE/KC. They wanted to move it to Monday or Tuesday night. The issue is everyday more people on Tennessee are testing positive. So the NFL can not allow them to gather together or allow coaches/staff into the facility until they have a complete understanding of everyone infected. Tennessee has had additional people test positive Mon - Friday - so at this point it sounds like the NFL is not allowing the facility to even open until Tuesday - making it difficult to play a game that evening. The Pats/Chiefs is postponed until Tuesday, but if either team throws more positive tests from today or tomorrow (as I would assume they will retest on Sunday and try to fly out Monday) - then the NFL will also have to postpone this game. The NFL is treating each situation the same and then using the circumstances to determine what else must happen. Additionally if more Titans come up positive - the NFL has discussed having to shut a team down completely for 10-14 days to ensure the spread has stopped and Jerry Jones said they would decide the impact and how to play things out once deemed safe. He said the NFL has a ton of contingency plans that have been discussed - the NFL will work hard to get through with minimal disruption, but they knew scheduling changes were always a possibility.

I guess I don’t get what you are asking at all. I believe if the initial group on Monday had been even up to 8 or so players and then the rest of this week saw no more positives (so it was 1 exposure at 1 point and time) - the NFL talked about closing the Titans facility until Saturday and then moving the Pittsburgh game to Monday or Tuesday. Once they got additional positives on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday - now they now that it was not a single exposure, but small groups exposing other small groups - which suggests they may not be strictly following protocol. This has forced the NFL to keep the facility closed until at least Monday or Tuesday. The NFL is also bringing in some experts to review the exposures to find out if this was truly them not following protocol or an unfortunate accident. I expect fines, maybe draft pick losses if they determine protocol was severely broken. If at this point the Titans have it under control- I would think the players will go on IR and the team will activate replacements from the PS and our game will go on. If more players continue to become positive - which could happen based on some people 8 day incubation or if some players are getting together outside of the facility and spreading it - then I would assume the NFL will keep the Facility closed and have to make a decision on whether to postpone the Bills game or maybe choose to force Tennessee to forfeit some games. The NFL owners and NFLPA discussed a bunch of options prior to the season - we will see how it plays out.
-
I think the postponement this weekend was because people keep coming up positive and they wanted to keep the Titans apart to prevent additional spreading. I don’t think the numbers were the problem. The initial plan sounded like if they had no more positives - they would have played Monday afternoon. Having 5 additional players test positive through out this week emphasizes that they needed to keep the players apart to prevent a larger outbreak and they needed to keep them apart 8-10 days - until next Monday or Tuesday- then they can deal with replacement players.
-
The players go on the COVID IR (essentially putting people on the IR list for 3 weeks). That opens the roster spots. I would assume up to about 10 players - although I believe someone stated that the league mentioned postponing games if a team was hit all in one position group because the PS would not be able to cover if a whole position became impacted - for example 5WRs - the PS might have 2 - so the NFL would have to look at options.
-
No because they are spreading it internally and each person reacts differently depending on exposure limits and their immune ability. The initial positive coach before testing positive - most likely spread it to one or two players/coaches. Those guys then spread to a few more each and then because they were negative - were in contact with a few others and those guys are just coming up positive now. It really tells me even though the coach says they followed protocol- I tend to think some people were lax. The issue is we do not know for sure exactly when all of the transmission is occurring- late last week - on Sunday - on the various flights? That is why the spotlight is on Minnesota because if it was prior to the game and the virus was spread to Minnesota- they should start showing up between Thursday and Sunday. The biggest problem is people assume a negative means no COVID and that is not true. Negative just means no COVID detected in that sample. Sometimes it might be to early from exposure and the viral load in the person is to low. Sometimes it is not a great sample and you miss the virus, Sometimes it is a good collection and for this person the virus is growing deeper in the respiratory tract and therefore the virus is not present where you are testing. People also become infective at different rates than testing positive. Some are infective before testing positive and sometimes it is timing - testing in the am - become infective 4-6 hours later during meetings or work-outs. Back to the football side. It means since we are still seeing positives - it is not contained and the entire Tennessee team really needs 8-10 days of “isolation” and then if there are no positives they can begin to return to normal activities. We will know more come this weekend on the entire situation.
-
I think in the end - those guys will be unavailable and the Bills/Titans play with the expanded roster. The issue is the positive tests have not yet stopped. So until Tennessee has a couple days of all negatives the facility is closed and therefore the game would be in jeopardy. I suspect by Sunday they will have no new cases and then deep clean the facility and work to get people back in Monday or Tuesday.

He is just a Practice Squad player - don’t need to trade - just sign him. -

None, but I would pay if they came out and said they signed Gase to a 3 year extension! -
Inspired by the Mods point discussion - I am going to step back out of this. ugh!

Not to argue much, but it would not matter if no else tested positive tomorrow or Saturday (the additional positive today changed the dynamic) - that was not the issue as far as I understand it for postponing the game. They identified contacts and some of those people tested positive on Monday. If it had stopped there - the plan was to keep the facility closed until Saturday - do a deep clean - and play Monday or Tuesday. As additional people came up positive later in the week - that suggested there was more spread and the NFL deemed they need to wait a longer period to ensure they are not missing people that were exposed and are infectious before they test positive. They really need to give a minimum of 3-5 days from the last positive to give people potentially exposed time to become positive because the timings overlap (infectious versus testing positive). Therefore - with the additional positives they are looking at closing the facilities until Monday or Tuesday of next week and are asking the players not to get together with each other at all to prevent additional spread. That timeframe could get further extended - including cancelling our game if more tests come back positive later this week or early next week. The Practice Squad is designed to be used once they get the outbreak under control and that has not yet been determined. Once they are sure they have everything contained - they can begin the utilization of the PS players, but they cannot do anything until they are positive the outbreak is contained and the impacted players are quarantined. They will have a good feeling on that by Monday or Tuesday if the latest positive is the last - if more come up - it will be a fight to get them back in play. The interesting part is the Steelers really get screwed here as their Bye week is shifted forward and they might have to play Baltimore and Tennessee back to back - 2 very physical games.
