Talent vs Multiple low level players?

That plus also trading Josh Allen for a first rounder and creating a character of himself as a quarterback rated perfectly in everything. -
Talent vs Multiple low level players?
dgrochester55 replied to 100DollarBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not high on Kroft, but Brown is a starting caliber receiver and Beasley is one of the better slots in the game. Buffalo tried for Antonio Brown but it fell apart. Buffalo is trying for LeVeon Bell but so are five other teams. There is a still a lot of cap space and we still have the draft. Buffalo needed more than one receiver and got that. They cant just hope for a franchise player and sit on their hands while waiting to see if they get one. What would you have done different? Give me your ideal offseason for the Bills? -
WR Cole Beasley (Dallas) to the Bills
dgrochester55 replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know a few Cowboys fans, and they all have told me that this was a good signing and are upset to have lost him. No clear number one receiver as of now but a group of Foster, Brown, Beasley, Jones and McKenzie is miles ahead of what Buffalo had over the last two years. Also have the draft ahead and Duke Williams is a complete wild card as far as what he will do. Regardless of what the roster looks like in September, Allen will have a reliable group of receivers to throw it to. -
Not a bad start to free agency
dgrochester55 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the Morse signing, Gore is fine as a backup and veteran leadership but nothing more. Johnson and Kroft could be Jordan Poyer or they could Vontae Davis(minus the quitting). That is the chance you take with signings like that. The price for Kroft was a little high, but here is hoping that he goes back to how he was in 2017. Overall, not a wow day, but a decent yield. There is a lot of cap space left and a draft left as well. Some depth at positions of need were taken care of today. -
RB Frank Gore (Dolphins) to the Bills
dgrochester55 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Age jokes aside, Gore is an upgrade over what we had as a backup last year even at this phase of his career. I just hope that Gore is not all that Buffalo has in mind at the position. -
RB Frank Gore (Dolphins) to the Bills

The current me is underwhelmed by the signing, but the 2004 version of me is pretty excited to get Frank Gore -
So a marginal quarterback who is just a notch above EJ Manuel finds early success due to his great defense leading them to a super bowl but two years later is on the way out. He finds a social cause to latch on to for whatever reason was in his heart in a timely manner, and ends up with a nike contract and a settlement? Good for him, but that does not make him a hero or martyr. Shrewd? Lucky? opportunistic? Maybe, but certainly not a victim.

Best/Worst QB - Kelly/Van Pelt?
dgrochester55 replied to Nuncha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Van Pelt was a poor man's Fitz. Not a viable starting option even short term, but nowhere near the worst that Buffalo has had. Nathan Peterman, Bruce Mathison, Jeff Tuel and Billy Joe Hobert immediately come to mind as clearly worse options. That does not even count the ones from the early years. -
Congrats to him. I am always glad to see former Bills doing well. He was a preseason hero a few years back. Nothing wrong with him, just raw size and talent that didn't translate to an NFL career. Very common at that point of the draft. I don't think that Buffalo took a bad risk by using a 7th rounder on him, but for every Jason Peters and Robert Foster that you get in 7th rd or UDFA, you get ten scenarios like Jasper.

This is good. Keeping a solid veteran leader who wants to be here and one less hole to worry about in the offseason

Mr Decoy, Sammy Watkins expected to play vs. Colts
dgrochester55 replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watkins is an above average but not great receiver who is injury prone. I wouldn't go as far as calling Watkins a bust, but any top 5 pick that isn't a franchise player has had a disappointing career on some level. Had Watkins been a 2nd or 3rd rounder, no one would be looking down on his career, but as a top five pick who cost a team an extra first rounder, the production was not as expected. At least Watkins got into the game unlike our highly motivated friend Kelvin Benjamin who was a healthy scratch yesterday. -
I think I get where the OP is coming from but the wording of title didn't help the cause. TO me it seems like Buffalo is happy with Barkley and Anderson for next year. In not, I would rather see a veteran brought in to compete with Barkley. Unless a higher rated prospect falls into a late round and is drafting with the intent of being a possible backup option, I don;t see a scenario where drafting a QB makes sense this year.

Are the Bills satisfied with their current RB's ??
dgrochester55 replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that the group is that bad and the o-line had a lot to do with it, but Buffalo needs to add some competition via draft and/or free agency. -
Rex Ryan to the Dolphins?
dgrochester55 replied to End The Drought's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would be only a matter of time before some poor boater is sued by Rob Ryan after accidentally hitting him with his boat propeller. -
Logically speaking, it was a close game until he got himself and others ejected. He was overrated as a bill, look at how many long runs given up happened to the Bills in 2013, he was at fault for most of those. Fair enough, if you say that he was a rookie back them, but he clearly does not seem to have improved since then. He is a hothead who makes a good play once in awhile but costs the team in the long run both on conduct and play. He will be out of the league within two years.

Unlike Kyle Williams, this retirement will not be concluded with happy memories from Bills fans. Wish him well as a person, but as a ref, no loss.

Kyle Williams: Officially Retires
dgrochester55 replied to Clemfield2622's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whitner would have been a good second or third round pick, but underachieved as a top 10 choice. Not completely his fault, but still a bad pick. Valid point on Butler who I forgot about, but he was looking like a possible long term starter before he decided to retire for politics. Ellison started for awhile but it was more by default than merit. You are right in that compared to other recent Buffalo drafts, this isn't as bad, but easily a forgettable draft if not for Williams. Buffalo does get a decent draft grade on this on Williams alone though who actually outlasted most of the 1st rounders that year. -
Kyle Williams: Officially Retires
dgrochester55 replied to Clemfield2622's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kyle Williams was a steal in an otherwise horrible 2006 draft class for the Bills. Great overall career and easily the most memorable and respected player in the drought era. Not sure if he is an NFL hall of famer but definitely deserves a spot in the Bills wall of fame. Good person, good player and he will be missed. -
Draft "misses" by Buffalo
dgrochester55 replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks bad today, but Dareus was cant miss on paper while Watt was a major boom or bust risk at the time projected to go much lower in the first round than Dareus. Dareus is currently not doing much, but did actually have a few productive years for Buffalo including two pro bowl appearances, calling him a complete bust is a little unfair. JJ watt was projected to be a late teens early 20's pick. Had they picked Watt at 3, Buffalo would have been majorly ripped at the time for using a top 5 pick to reach for a late first round prospect with boards being flooded with "WTF, didnt they learn their lesson when picking Maybin" messages? Maybe they could have traded down, but fans would have also seen this as settling and being too scared to take chances. This would have been very unpopular at the the time fresh out of the Jauron era. Unless someone on the Bills front office can time travel, you really cant blame Buffalo for a pick like this. This is more bad luck than a bad decision. As I said in an earlier post, Troup over Gronk or Maybin over pretty much anyone in the rest of the next three rounds are more glaring examples of where an obvious better opportunity was right there and missed. -
Matt Barkley extended for two years
dgrochester55 replied to jletha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe one game was premature, maybe it wasnt, but Barkley seems to fit well with the team and it gives us a guaranteed option as a backup for two years. If worse came to worse and Barkey wasn't a good backup, I am pretty sure the terms of the two years contract wont cripple the team if he was cut. I think it is a good move overall -
Draft "misses" by Buffalo
dgrochester55 replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brady and Wilson were misses for everyone, but Big ben obtainable and would have made a difference. The two that jump out to me most was Troup over Gronkowski and Maybin over Orapko. Those were ones where no trade up was needed, the right player who was a good fit was there and Buffalo flat out went with a horrible alternative.
