Ducasse is servicable is a generous grade.  I think Bodine is maybe a C minus starter.  Folks on these boards who seem informed were opining that Newhouse is terrible.  I am hoping, based on not much, that Connor McDermott will be a step up at RT.  Definitely need a few fairly early draft picks devoted to oline.  It would help if we can get the qb in the 6 to 10 range and keep most of our draft picks.

If Bodine and Newhouse are poorly rated that is a different story.    Some high draft picks on the oline may be needed then.

  2. Losing Incognito hurts, but the line has been worse before.

I have to plead ignorance on Bodine and Newhouse, they seem to have plenty of starting experience, but how good are they?  Unless they are notoriously bad, Dawkins, Bodine and Newhouse would be 3 of the 5 spots.

Groy and Ducasse are servicable and Miller could rebound with a new offensive coordinator.   Add a couple of draft picks to that mix, and it may turn out decent.

  3. Does this mean that Bennie Anderson was mad when Losman was playing instead of Holcomb in 2005?

Kidding aside, I doubt it.   I just think that he was completely out classed by two really good players.     After watching the video he says "he literally didnt block me"  Doesn't mean the same as "he didn't even try to block me"

These players are professionals and trying to maintain their career.     If it ever got out that he let a player walk by him to hit a quarterback, his career would be instantly done.   Mills is a bad player but not a stupid one.

  4. I would also go with Dockery.   There were many bad lineman signed by the Bills in the mid 2000's who were worse, but the price that was paid for him was laughable.    Pairing him with the Langston Walker signing did not make it look any better.

That was a bad off season, Who remembers the  Darwin Walker Saga that happened in that same year?

    1. Trade up with Giants

    2. Pump-fake the Browns into thinking you are taking their QB at #2

    3. Cleveland panics and takes their QB  - Bills take BARKLEY!!! at 2

    4. TRADE Shady to Philly for Foles!!!

    Championship.

Ladies and gentleman, we have two very strong entries to start the new game of "How Brandon Beane can lose an entire fan base on one day."

  6. I like this trade.  If you go by the draft value chart 21 to 12 is 400 points which is about a mid round 2nd pick.      To move up to top 3 from 12, you would probably need to give away the 12, 22 and at least a 2nd rounder.

Now getting to 3 is suddenly doable without forfeiting an entire draft.

  7. Maybe as an understood backup or stop gap, but this would be a disappointment to me.   Out of the choices discussed, it would be my least favorite.   He wouldn't be quite good enough to count on for long term success, but just good enough to expect a commitment as a starter and a large  contract.   Even keeping Tyrod would have been better than going with Bradford.

  8. Browns fans will love Taylor at first because even though he is too hesitant at times, he makes minimal mistakes.    I saw a couple of Browns games and saw a bit of them on Red Zone.  Kizer could move the ball but was incredibly  mistake prone.   Many Browns games were competitive until somewhere between late 2nd and early 4th where a boneheaded mistake, usually by Kizer would happen and cause things to unravel.  Tyrod's game managing style will be a welcome change

This has applied to Bills fans often during the drought

We had 2 years of Losmans 100-150 yards to Evans and 30 to everyone else in a game and got sick of it.   When Edwards came in his "checking down" was seen as finally spreading the ball around, managing the game and using his tools.  It was a welcome relief until no progress happened in two years and we started knowing him as Captain Checkdown

After we saw too many 20/25 140 yds games, we got sick of it and in came Fitz.  We loved Fitz because he wasnt hesitant, threw the ball around with reckless abandon and even though there were turnovers, we were finally getting 300 yard games and points again.  After two years with no progress we started calling him Pickspatrick, he was gone and the cycle repeated with others afterwards.

For at least the first 8 games Taylor will be the greatest thing since sliced bread  according to Browns fans.

  9. It was time to move on and I have faith that there will be an upgrade, but this thread was pointless.   No need to knock a guy who gave three starter calibers years here.    Keep in mind that our choices in 2015 would have otherwise been EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel

These last three years could have definitely been worse at QB.

I guess I am not as anti-Tyrod as you are. I honestly thought we'd draft a prospect, allow the prospect to sit the bench (tossing him out unprepared ala the last 20 years) - and Tyrod was the placeholder until the newbie was ready.

I had this opinion too, but I am ok with this.   I do think we are drafting in the first round but one of the veterans that available will be announced soon.  (Foles, Cousins, Keenum) etc.   I cant see this regime making this move without a concrete plan in the works.

  11. As I am processing this, good move for both teams.

For Cleveland, Taylor is miles ahead of anyone that they had at QB last season.   They can draft someone, but they have a starter if not.

For Buffalo after Taylor was benched, the writing was on the wall.    They got more for him than anyone expected.   I am certain that a plan is in place for quarterback if this move was made.    No way they would do this if there was any chance that they were coming into the season with Peterman as their top choice.

Clean break. Taylor went from a career backup to a three year starter, and Buffalo broke the curse during his time.    Best quarterback that we had since arguably Flutie but it was time to move ahead.  He has my respect and I wish him the best of luck.

  12. Easy choice, Kaepernick.  He is very outspoken, but does have experience and could be a servicable stop gap or backup in the right system.  If he kept if off the field and dedicated himself to football, he could be useful somewhere.  Hypothetically, regardless of who our starter is, I would take Kaep as a backup over Peterman anytime.

Manziel has no track record of NFL success and an addiction issue which he has yet to prove that he can kick long term.    IMO, he will need at least a couple years of sustained CFL success to even be thought of in the NFL again.

  13. I would easily go for Jacksoville.   I am not a Marrone fan but anyone takes precedence over New England unless its a scenario that directly effects buffalo in a playoff hunt.

Its not even about not liking a division rival for me.   New England is the Epitome of what I dislike about the current NFL.   I dislike the brown nosing from the announcers, I hate the fact that ref calls often give them a 7 to 10 point cushion against opponents(in my opinion, when you factor the officiating in most Pats games, a team has to play good enough to beat New England by 10 instead of 1 to actually get the win).   I dislike the creative new arbitrary interpretations of rules that tend to come up at least one or twice a year which happen to give New England an advantage at a key time.   I  cant stand the personalities of Brady, Bellicheck and Gronk.  I dislike the extreme arrogance of Pats fans, many of which were casual fans or fans of different teams before 2001.

I find it very hard to even watch a game with New England in it now.   Them losing would make in much easier for me to enjoy the Super Bowl.

  14. Keep TT and draft someone high.

TT is not a long term option, but he is definitely capable of scoring more than what happened in the second half of the season.    I put a lot of the blame for this year on a very depleted receiving group(Benjamin was an upgrade but essentially playing on one leg for most of his time here), a painfully conservative offensive system and starting the wrong linemen in some cases.   Taylor was putting more points on the boards under a different system.  Unless we get Alex Smith or Garoppolo, I don't see any available veteran that we can count on to do more than Taylor.  Cousins in my opinion is not good enough to justify the cost.  Bradford is a china doll.  Bridgewater is a big question mark after the injury.  Keenum is a slightly better version of Orton.

Draft a QB-This is easy to defend.   We eventually need a franchise quarterback and Taylor is not it.   The draft is the best chance to do that.   With a deeper than normal QB class and a high amount of early picks, it is now or never.
