  1. The harsh reality is that Buffalo was one pass interference non call away from being 1-4 in what was supposed to be the easy part of the schedule.  That is much more than a wake up call or slump.

If you break down the remaining schedules you see this

Tier 1 Buffalo might be the favorite-Broncos, Patriots.   Even in those cases, Denver is playing better and New England already beat us

Tier 2 Buffalo might beat them if they play well- Jets, Chargers

Tier 3 Out of our League-Chiefs, Eagles, Cowboys, Dolphins

Best case scenario to me is four more wins.  Worst case is one more.    The defense is depleted.  The offense under Dorsey has been figured out by the rest of the league and the morale is shot.   This is a drought era team with a good QB.

They shouldn't be. We need to have a 1 year "bottoming out" if you will to straighten out our salary structure, accumulate cost controlled assets, and try to salvage what's left of Allen's prime. Oh, and a coaching change should probably occur too.

But of course none of this will happen

I agree.  The opportunity is gone for this group, but Allen is still young enough to have another shot if we retool and take a year out for a mini rebuild.

  3. If you are the Giants you have one forward pass and 2 interceptions in almost six quarters with DeVito.  There is no reason to keep him in.

Put in Matt Barkley, Run a wildcat, anything has to be better than this.

  4. So far I have learned this week that a defense can get a roughing the passer for a routine sack (commanders/patriots game), but an offense can regularly get a away with an illegal wedge block where an entire offense line is off-sides because the play has a cutesy nickname.

    Welcome to NFL 2023.

  5. I really can't make myself cheer for either team.    Who would I rather have win?   Maybe the Dolphins, only because we already beat them and a Chiefs loss would be nice in the event that Buffalo gets it together enough to battle for the #1 overall seed.

  6. There goes McDermott and Beane's favorite time passing game of "who would you rather have active at CB than Kaiir Elam?"

McDermott:  Let's play "who would you rather have active at CB than Kaiir Elam"  I'll start, Cam Lewis

    Beane:  Nice one, AJ Klein

McDermott:  Good, my turn, Poona Ford

Beane:  Lol, my turn Jason Elam

McDermott:  Hilarious!  My turn Josh Norman

Beane: Okay thats a little far fetched.  You're not serious about that are you?.......are you...

Well, DeVito probably shouldn’t be an NFL QB. He was ok at Illinois, but hot garbage at Syracuse. Whatever happened to the punter being emergency QB? The punter or anyone on the roster could have done the same as DeVito. A strange waste of roster space for a guy they won’t let throw downfield.

I was surprised too, you don't get benched on an under .500 lower tier big five football team for a QB who was essentially a running back with an arm at the time and miraculously become an NFL qb two years later.

  8. There would be no way to make football economically sustainable in some of these states.

For example in Wyoming, you have a state with less people that Erie, or Monroe county spread out over an area nearly twice the size of the state of New York, there is no way that they fill a stadium of 60,000-80,000 every week.   Expansion to 50 teams would water down the competition level to a point where there would be a level if difference between the top and bottom tier of QB, Oline, and defense where any given sunday is no longer possible.

The only way that this is feasible is having 32 NFL teams with one Farm team in an NFL Europe type spring league.   64 Teams could cover the 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico, A few cities in Mexico and the Canadian Provinces.  With one farm team for each NFL team

Example  Seahawks-Washington   Seahawks Farm Team Idaho

Saints   Louisiana             Saints farm team- MIssissippi

Edit from later in the day-Look at how Devito played on the Giants today and imagine that on a few teams each weeks.  That is what you would get with 50 teams.

  9. I'll likely run Red Zone in the background while I work on other things today.  As far as watching a full game, between the announcers, the commercials, 10-20 injuries per game and the refs dictating the pace and sometimes the score of the game, it is very hard for me to do so if it is a non-Bills game.

If you watch a full game now, you are likely to see the Verizon annoying guy interrupting a birthday party commercial more times that you will see an exciting play that isn't called back.  I liked the NFL much better than the "Roger Goodell's football themed sports entertainment show sponsored by Draftkings" that we have this season.

McD doesn't think his time management is an issue. Actions speak louder than words. He's told us time and again that defensive timeouts are his thing. He's also told us that he does in fact play down to his competition otherwise we don't punt 2x in plus territory last night. If that was KC we'd go for it but instead it's TB. Bills let them almost win that game. Happy with a win but man McD loves his nail biters.

I am happy to be 5-3 and to win after the low point of last Sunday.   Both units vastly improved, but McDermott did an awful job in the 4th and the team gave Tampa way too many opportunities to hang in there.

That effort yesterday does not get us a win next week against Cincinnati or later in the year against the Chiefs or Eagles.   There is still work to be done.    We just have to take it one game at a time and hope for continued improvement in ten days.

Yes...That. Plus lets freakin' face it.... Those 4th down and drive extending  penalties at the end were a pile of BS. McD even calls them out in his very subtle way in his post game presser, which he almost never does. We and all those around us in the stadium could not believe what was going on out there toward the end! I don't pay attention to spreads very often but what was it for this game? Because that final "TD Drive" for the Bucs was some BS. I try my damnedest to avoid mentioning flags as a reason for a loss, but since this was a win, those refs can suck it! They were awful in the end. Closest I've ever come to thinking a game I witnessed live was officiated in a biased, intentional manner.

Agreed, the first penalty was ticky tack and that Phillips face mask doesn't happen if the refs blow the play dead five seconds earlier like they were supposed to.

It's fair to say that nearly every single football game that I have watched no matter who is playing has had some type of issues with the officials this year.   It is a real problem and the NFL needs to address it.

For what it's worth, the point spread yesterday was 9.5.  In the slightly possible but unlikely event that Buffalo had not run out the clock and kicked a field goal to make it a two score game, the final score would have been 27-18.  I hope everybody enjoyed the NFL sponsored by Draft Kings last night.

  12. Great turnaround by Allen.   The offensive line was good and the receivers outside of Diggs finally stepped up.  All of this against a decent Bucs D.  Defense was better, but they caught an offense with a bottom three running game in a major slump.  My biggest concern after today was the coaching and management at the end, it almost felt like we were daring the Bucs to make a comeback.

I feel a lot better than I did Sunday, but also think that Buffalo will lose to KC, Philly and Cincinnati if the play like they did today.   Five and Three is not bad considering everything they have been through and this is something to build off of.
