Super Bowl LIX - Chiefs vs Eagles - Pregame thread
KingBoots8 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m not watching. that being said, I hope Barkley rips 2 long TD runs off and takes the wind out of KC’s sails. I’m sure the refs will throw flags and prevent all that, but one can hope. Barkley winning Super Bowl MVP would be a dream come true lol -
I’m struggle with this. I mean, going TO a superbowl is a very unique experience that I would probably have a lot of fun at, but it it’s the Bills in the SuperBowl i would rather drive to Buffalo and be IN the city. When we do get to the SB I will be in Buffalo for that. If we are talking like 2nd or 3rd SB then I would be more open to going there. Why, you ask? Because there will only ever be 1 “First SB Win” and I want to see Buffalo lit up with people celebrating in the streets. After that, while they would be awesome, it would lose a (very tiny) bit of charm. All that being said: Vegas, Miami, Atlanta would probably be near the top of my list. SoFi stadium is up there too, but mostly because I would take time to travel to the Pacific Ocean (never seen it in person)

And Sueprbowl MVP 🙏

Say “NO” to any Steelers WR reclamation projects

D line is priority #1 due mostly to expiring contracts for underperforming players. Then it’s a toss-up between WR, S, and CB. Whatever we do we need to find immediate contributors at those positions. WIDE RECEIVER I’d argue WR is a bigger need than S/CB personally - we need someone who can separate, which is the one thing we don’t seem to have on offense. Shakir is the closest we have to dependable, and Coleman is obviously going to be back, as well as Samuel who looked much more the player we expected once his foot fully healed. I think Mack Hollins is a must-sign FA, although his price tag may be a bit higher now. Either way, I think a reasonable contract is warranted. 2-3 years would be nice. If (likely when) Coop walks do we get a possible comp pick? I’m open to re-sign the guy if he shows up more on the stat sheet next year, but I think we all expected a bit more. If his heart isn’t in it, spend the money elsewhere. SAFETY Bishop played well enough this year. Safety is the hardest position to master in our scheme so I didn’t expect him to be perfect right away. Up against KC in their house in the biggest game of his life: he held his own for the most part and made some nice plays. I still like his pick, but we are going to need more than him and Rapp. Hamlin is a great story, a nice kid, but a starter? I think he’s limited physically. His position is where I look to upgrade. Given the learning curve of Safety, I either target a FA with some experience or draft someone mid-rounds to learn like Bishop did. He’s a FA now, and I just don’t think he will be worth his asking price personally. CORNERBACK I think Douglas’ best days are behind him. Last year he was electric, but this year he seemed to get burned quite a few times. For a reasonable contract I would bring him back, but it would need to be pretty team friendly. Benford has his role locked down and I expect an extension in the near future. He was an amazing draft choice and has worked out very well for us ….which leases me to Elam. I don’t think anyone here, after watching that performance against KC, is going to be clamoring to keep him around. I don’t expect a complete cut, but I could see him moved for a day 3 pick easily this offseason. The only way he stays is because he’s affordable for one more year, but I think all parties would benefit from a chance of scenery. Draft his replacement, add another via FA. D-LINE We have some serious work to do. To start, the following are gone or likely gone: Von Miller - $17m cap savings, $6m dead cap hit. I really do like Von but I think it’s time to pull the plug on this experiment. Huge savings by cutting him, and could allow someone like Solomon to get reps. Jones - only $2.5m hit this year, may keep as a depth player on a team friendly deal Smoot - only signed a 1 yr $2.5m contract for 2024 Guaranteed to stay for at least this year: Groot, Ed Oliver, Solomon, Epenesa We need some help here. I don’t imagine us being super active in big-name FA’s though; mostly reclamations and older vets chasing a ring. Without a combine it’s not really worth diving into draft picks just yet, but we will be looking early at these spots I believe, barring someone outstanding falling for some reason Priority re-signing: Mack Hollins, Ty Johnson Priority extensions: Josh Allen (likely due for an extension soon), James Cook, Khalil Shakir, Christian Benford

What are you doing to get out of this funk?

Take care of my family. This year was the first year I watched playoff games at home with my kids, and while I was sometimes loud and excited, especially after the Ravens win, I had to show them how to handle a difficult loss. My kids were sad, so I put my fandom aside for a bit and explained how I felt and what I was upset about to them. Their presence allowed me to handle this far better than I expected, and showed them football is, at the end of the day, only a game. …after they went to bed I took some “medication 💨” which also helped. -
1. Image is accurate 2. 100% am not watching this again. Go birds I guess 🤷♂️

AFC Championship Game Week Thread - Bills at Chiefs

https://nypost.com/2025/01/24/sports/patrick-mahomes-receives-devastating-family-news-prior-to-afc-championship-game/?sr_share=facebook&utm_campaign=nypost&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR25QWfQCT8P6OIRj_RwWKTNgrGDf5s2WX-CrAyq1Jxx7N9_MdndE9HOQXw_aem_BMK5ebw7ImrfnpKDJJHPkg …well, Mahomes may be more motivated given his Grandfather is in hospice care. I can’t stand him or (especially) his family, but this is beyond football. I hope we win an he can spend as much time with his family as possible, and I’ll leave it at that. -

…could it have anything to do with this post that already existed which discussed the merits of the NFC teams?
-
This perfectly sums it up.
-
Pssssst. NFC. I think you should interview Spags and Nagy this week. Like, everyone call them asap and book it.
-
I wonder if he’d be open to convert to safety? That would honestly be the only way I envision bringing him back. I love Tre, I really do, but his best days are behind him

Full disclosure: I am not looking past the next game. We have to dethrone the kings to get a shot in a Super Bowl, but that doesn’t mean we can’t discuss the other side of the coin: NFC teams remaining in the playoffs. Next week we determine who is going to the Super Bowl, and it’s a very interesting matchup between the Eagles and Commanders. I don’t think anyone expected Washington to still have a shot, but here they are. They just shocked the Lions, and you have the Eagles who many people expected to be here. They’re more similar than you think: Offense: Philadelphia Offense Ranking: 8th (27.2 ppg) - 7th best scoring, 29th in passing, 2nd in rushing Washington Offense Ranking: 7th (28.5 ppg) - 5th best scoring, 17th in passing 3rd best rushing I know Daniels and the Commanders have outplayed expectations, but I was shocked to see how good they’ve been. They have ran wayyyyy better than I noticed, and Daniels was the best QB this weekend. On the flip side, you have Barkley who ran like a man possessed this last season. He just ran for over 200 on the Rams, and 119 vs Green Bay (in a game where to slid to kill the clock rather than rack up another TD and maybe 50 more yards. If you can find a way to stop either Barkley or Daniels you have a shot, but that’s no small task Defense: Philadelphia Defense Ranking: 1st (17.6 ppg) - 11th best rush YPG, 1st in passing YPG Washington Offense Ranking: 18th (23.3 ppg) - 30th best rush YPG, 20th in passing YPG Philadelphia is stacked. They have a ton of playmakers and depth all over the field and pose (in my opinion) a much bigger challenge than the Commanders. They are a very physical team and will capitalize on any mistake. It felt like they blocked quite a few Stafford passes at the line yesterday, and Josh has sometimes struggled with that in previous years. Commanders are far easier to exploit in my view. They can be mauled up front, and if they focus on stopping the run it leaves Josh with the opportunity to take over with his arm. I think they’re better than their ranking, but not by much. I ultimately have more confidence in stopping Washington than Philly. Saquon is unrelenting and the real difference maker for Philly, and I am not sure we can stop the run against him for a full game. I think a rookie, when the lights are at their brightest, is more likely to make a mistake. Eagles have been there before, the Commanders are playing with house money at this point as nobody expected them to make it this far. I think now that Snyder is gone I am fine with Washington having success. It would be nice to possibly avenge a previous SB loss, so there’s that too. What are your thoughts on the NFC teams?

- I wore my new Bills socks (2-0 in playoffs wearing them) - I stayed home; sat on the floor in the middle of my livingroom so my wife and daughters could watch on the couch. 6-0 when watching at home on the Living Room TV. - I pulled a Tom Grossi tactic and “peed for the D” (peeing before your defense takes the field). I went 3/5 with an INT and 2 fumbles. I will be doing this the next 2 games as well. - I played Mr Bridghtside
