  1. Those seem like fine picks I think there will be other equally talented options at WR is Samuel is not there or someone drops The same with CB in the 3rd round I could ask see it reversed where they grab an Adobee Jackson in the 2nd round, if he drops Then address WR in the 3rd A safety in the first 2 rounds would negate the Poyer/Hyde signings Unless Hyde was signed all along to be the nickel corner However HC Sean already stated he will start at safety jc
  2. I agree 100% Thurman I hate to be repetitive but its not losing Woods that hurts, its more that we haven't replaced him The same applies to Gilmore At least Ragland should replace Zach and then some IMO who we get to replace these higher profile starting that left will have a humungous impact on whether we are a 5 or 7 or 9 win team jc
  3. If our Bills really think there's a serviceable future starting QB at #10 I hope they grab him If they are right its a great hedge against TT injuries while also looking ahead to 2018-2019 and beyond If they are wrong well it'll unfort be yet another wasted first round draft pick but with QB's you have to risk that It does sound sound like a much easier plan to execute than what the op-ed suggested... jc
  4. Jones trade up noted, it was quite successful Though it was a lifetime 6 years ago Any recent Bills trade up that worked? jc
  5. I see the OP-ED's reasoning, a little Actually I don't think losing Zack, Woods, & Gilmore is the reason in itself we may only win 5 games in 2017 Its the fact that we didn't bring anyone in to replace them Aside from Ragland being a freebie 2nd high draft pick and an hopefully a full season from Shag And that we have no coherent plan to be compensated in 2018 for losing Gilmore and Woods It does seem we have way less on field talent going into the 2017 draft I'm not sure how that's gonna translate into wins unless you have blind faith in HC Sean's/Frazier's D scheme is the cure-all Our back 7 seems to be in major transition We didn't make a single move to improve our 2017 O talent, Dimarco aside, its worse, different WR depth notwithstanding All things do unfort point to yet another unsuccessful season jc
  6. Looks like NE will the the only AFC team that will get free comp picks in 2018 jc
  7. Can anyone name a single draft trade 'up' that's worked for our Bills in recent memory I can't but someone might know It didn't work out for Sammy, Ragland, TJ Graham, or numerous QB's It didn't work out for the Phins and Jordan So if it hasn't worked out for us and others One would think we'd learned a lesson here? Nope, lol Though I do LOVE Allen at our backup DT in 2017 and then starter 2018 forward And I think he'll still be there at 10 But in no way would I lose yet another draft pick for the pleasure jc
  8. Gunner, you have my vote as the GM of our Bills I would have much preferred to have kept Gilmore and Brown over most of the dumpster divers we brought in Dimarco and Hyde excepted Though I very much dislike Hyde's contract, and or I'm not yet convinced he'll be an upgrade on Graham Also noting your plan would have gotten us at least one 2018 comp pick for Woods, likely a 4th rounder, instead of butkus I see Thurman's point, and concur, but the reality is our Bills spent some decent money in FA this off season They were not as cap restricted as folks suggest 9M+ alone on two new safeties, that's not chump change They just didn't spend the dough on front line impact starters or anyone us fans can be excited about jc
  9. Sorry, I think folks that claim playing the Patriots is only 2 games on one's yearly schedule miss the point - The best way to make the playoffs in your conference is to have a winning record in your division - It goes a long way to having a solid AFC record but more importantly puts 3 other teams in your conference at a potential W-L disadvantage - So IMO the 6 games in your division are the most important games in your schedule, and building a team that can consistantly win in your division is a great building block forward towards having constistant successful seasons Just saying.... jc
  10. I think the Op-ed's point, worthy or not, is that our Bills should be thinking forward to landing the next potential franchise QB, whether that is in this draft, which is unlikely, the Prescott/Wilson phenomenon where a more less hyped QB emerges, or the next draft, which he thinks it is Regardless of whether he is correct, or not, and besides the fact that his notion is a little fantastical, you know picking which team will finish last, which is impossible to do, and make a trade now for the future possibility of trading up My point is the teams that usually trade up in the first round, usually have spare draft picks, that's how they can afford to make that kind of deal, but we don't, the whole mindset here is not about acquiring extra draft picks to put us into position to grab that QB, instead we keep trading away picks for WR, RB's and ILB's, none of whom have so far helped us have a successful season I at least think the op-ed is at least the right direction about at least doing something more concrete about building a long term winning program here, clearly the folks running it now, haven't shown their methodology works, certainly not by wins and losses anyway, making this kind of a bold move is at least an attempt to think it through a bit more, lol I said it on the comp pick thread, I won't bet on all the DW dumpster diving 2017 FA off season signings not making the team come Sept, one is bound to over achieve, maybe even make an impact, and perhaps more than one, but I will bet in comparison to your average NFL 3rd and 4th rounders, those picks we are no longer getting, they would have at least been on our roster between 2018 and 2022, that none of the FA pickups DW made this season, save Hyde, will still be in Bills uniform 4 years from now Now there's long term planning at its finest... jc
  11. By my count our Bills lost 7/22 starters Or 32% of our starting lineup On offense WR #2 and WR #3 Or 18% On defense, C#1, NC #1, S#1, S#2, ILB #2 Or 46% The off season changes are bigger and bolder than anything Rex/DW did So its a big transition year and I'm not even talking about all the depth changes By my count we've yet to replace either WR, C#1, NC#1 Ragland replaces the lost ILB And I know some here, including I, not so sure the S situation is any improvement So I can't agree about the pronouncement that what we signed back is better than we lost Sure, there still is the draft However its seems we've lost more starting talent than we brought in And we have more starting holes to fill than we started with I think you have to ask yourself, will all these changes, project more wins? If you think our new lineup is a cinch to win 10 games plus then who cares about not re-signing Brown, etc However if look like a 6-7 win team its hard to say this has been a good off season Lots of change folks... jc
  12. I love the notion of your idea The problem is you need alot of extra draft picks to be able to afford to make that deal Specifically 2018 and 2019 draft picks So first off our Bills have to stop trading picks away for WR's, RB's, and LB's And instead starts acquiring extra draft picks And we could use those 2 comps mgmt and very few people on message boards care about Because those extra 3rd and 4th 2018 we're not getting would really help acquire that top pick If you ever meet the Bills braintrust you should spell it out for em jc
  13. I do expect 1 S and 1-2 CBs in the draft, so that could help. If we came away with Lattimore, Melifonwu, and Langley, then I'd be pretty pumped about our secondary and D in general. No more out-scheming BB. 11 across from 11 and play ball. I would be pumped too but then I have to ask why spend over 9M dollars per annum in FA agency money on two new secondary players if you were going to draft first day starters in April? Something does not correlate with what we think they should do versus what they've done already, if you think any high picks are not BPA but consider need Pre draft I cannot see how our present back 7 talent can stop Tom Brady, on paper it would seem that we've lost talent, not gained, though we all secretly hope the new scheme can overcome, but can it? Me thinks Reggie Ragland is the key, and if the FA S signings work out, let alone anything else we pick up in the draft, which is only ever a 50-50 roll of the dice... jc
  14. Not nervous in the least about HC Sean's scheme My biggest concern is do have the talent on the field jc
  15. No less or more important than non Buffalo area fans such as Rochester, Erie, and all the outlaying regions, and or any other area that equally makes up about 20% of the season ticket base Why the question? jc
  16. Regardless, Hooker and Adams are absolutely going top 10 this year And I don't think the 2 teams that take em will shy away because of this public info or perception that safeties rarely pan out as HOF's Remember where you go in the draft has less to do about your overall talent in comparison to NFL legends And more to do to with a comparison to that years draft class And if no QB's go in the top 10 this year neither Adams or Hooker will be there at #10 So it wont affect our Bills Though you make a great case from staying away from the next safety Peppers, lol I will say I'm jealous of the what the Phins and NE currently have at safety Humungous talent over and above our new additions Poyer and Hyde, based on previous play I drool over the conceptual idea of an Adams or Hooker on our Bills Don't care of they don't become HOF's, just give us 5 above average years jc
  17. Interesting post TPS Though I will say TT is not Ryan and we do not have a Sanu currently on our roster That being said Howard would be amazing pic at #10 if he's still there when we pick regardless jc
  18. I would be in 7th heaven if our Bills could trade down like that It would wipe out was has for me been a rather disappointing and underwhelming off season, coaching change aside I'd revaluate my feelings that DW has to go Drafting THREE new WR's would be uber exciting for us fans Heck I'd take just Ross and Goodwin in a milli-second However I highly doubt anything like this happens and that Seattle would offer that much Plus what's with all the safeties? Hey, I'm one of the few here not all that big on Poyer and Hyde starting, but we didn't spent 9M this year on backups Replace 2 of those safeties with CB's and a RT and this is close to perfection Too bad it's fantastical jc
  19. WR - Round 1 - Williams or Davis, Round 2 - Ross or Zay, Round 3 - Krupp, Schuster, or Goodwin S - Adams or Hooker CB - Lattimore or Jackson, so many to choose from in round #2 and #3 OLB - Roddick or Harris DT - Allen or Brantley TE - Howard or Njuku Every one of these players isn't just a need for 2017 but would look great in a Bills uni longterm 2017-2022 jc
  20. Sorry, Iron, to me a winning season is when you have more wins than losses and also qualify for the playoffs, but I will give you props that going 9-7 after going 6-10 was very exciting, and that most here likely thought our team was going in the right direction, I certainly did, being built to to be more successful than it had been in the past, and that DW was an up and coming GM who could deliver us to the playoffs Unfort we were all wrong So I wonder why the same folks who loved every moves and transaction the last two seasons, after seeing the actual results on the field, can be so hyped and positive about what we have done this off season, let alone every FA signing, IMO on paper, we still look like a middling 7-8 team, maybe worse, in fact with alot less front line starting talent I don't see that we've assembled a 10 win plus roster, do you? And you honestly think that, sure I can understand the hype on all the off season moves, but if we've only assembled a 7 win team, then perhaps we need to admit, say be a little more honest, that these moves don't really amount too all that much.. jc
  21. They say HC Sean uses nickel and dime D's 65% of the time Which is why the present depth chart secondary is IMO very very worrisome We currently do not have one legit NFL starter on the roster Poyer only started 6 games in 4 years Hyde was a fantastic nickel CB for the Packers, and backup depth But the Packers never saw him as a full time S or CB starter Then there's Seymour And a void at nickel unless Seymour is moved to the slot I'm not saying one, some, or all of these players won't rise to the occasion this year given a starting opportunity However on paper, its a huge downgrade in talent from where we were the last couple of years I'm sure it'll look better after the draft. fingers crossed jc
  22. If Williams had played for another team post Bills, and succeeded, this thread would have alot of merit The criticism of Marrone's/DW's handling of Williams would be quite debatable and this would be an interesting and lively discussion However Williams did not I guess he didn't have what it took to succeed long term in the NFL That little fact basically tells us most of us that Marrone's/DW's assessment was bang on I'm not sure why years later this is even something anyone still wants to talk about, lol
  23. I'm not so sure we would go safety with the first pick HC Sean just told everyone yesterday Hyde would start at safety, then you have Poyer Both signed starting $$ deals Personally neither have started much in the NFL at that position so I find it beyond scary And in fact on paper a talent drop from last year But we will see what happens on the field Then again HC Sean could have been smoke screening but if not we ain't going starting safety As either Poyer becomes a very expensive backup Or Hyde moves to nickel or starting C Now I get BPA, not drafting for need, and just 2017, but we signed Power and Hyde for beyond 2017 jc
  24. I think if we were a winning franchise nobody would care all that much if the GM and HC tussle That call that a normal NFL working relationship However because we are mired in losing every bit of gossip and innuendo is magnified And its just gonna get worse until we win 10 games or make the playoffs jc
  25. Great find and post Thurman If the pattern holds, and our Bills stay at #10, and if we pick a defensive player, IMO all signs point to a DT or a LB That's cos I think Adolphus will end up playing mostly outside, not inside, in this D, but I could be wrong And I think we're set for years at DE with Shaq and Hughes, and we've already went out and got FA DE depth But not so much DT However considering Kyle's age, I think the former #3 now dropping Allen is a perfect fit longterm There's that shoulder issue but someone is getting a top 3 prospect in the trees so why not us? Ditto the rising Reddick at OLB, or the Foster at MLB/OLB There also is the versatile/hybrid Peppers For those still thinking DE, FYI - Taco Charleton gets mocked right after us jc
