Instant starter + 1st and 3rd Rd picks = Success
wilcoam replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I loved the trade down, and I like the White pick Kuddos to the DW-SM mgmt team However I'm not swallowing the koolaid that all these off season moves indicate we are going to win 10 games Have you seen our LB's and WR's? First off your premise is based on a rookie DB, and a 2nd year 6th rounder DB playing like legit NFL starters at the same time In combination with 2 young safeties with little NFL starting exp turning into starting studs Add the possibility and probability of secondary injuries and you're projection is unfort way too rosy and improbable Should it actually happen and a whole bunch of others things come together sure anything is possible But I highly doubt this team is primed to win 10 games this year Sorry, I'm not being negative, I'm just being realistic about the actual state of our roster versus our opponents And the reality that while we will be drafting new young potential players this wkd so are all the other teams we play jc -
How'd we do vs the draft value chart?
wilcoam replied to Buffalo86's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You nailed it Buffalo 86 Great post Though I say we lost by 171 because that's the exact points based on the 27th pick next year Mind you if the Chiefs finish 20th and not 27th its a dead even trade I also thought we should have gotten another pick to make up for the 171 pt loss Though I love the trade down and I like the White pick regardless jc -
Your Favorite Targets @ 44 Tomorrow ?
wilcoam replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Best BPA of WR, RT, OLB/ILB, and or WR I love Cunningham if he lasts, Cam Robinson And the dual RB-WR threat of Curtis Samuel I also like Ju Ju or Zay I think Anderson or Williams are potential surprise picks if they are more OLB than DE's jc -
CALL NASA - intelligent life has landed in Buffalo
wilcoam replied to theRalph's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure you are correct about the QB next year However I agree 100% that while we have been only winning 6-9 games we should have been trading down all the years And amassing more draft picks not less Including comp picks Can anyone name a single trade recently up where we gave away picks that has worked out I can't But just about every trade down has yielded better results jc -
Good or bad opinions, at least we aren't the Bears
wilcoam replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post, I concur 100%, a horrible trade, and the move and money to Glennon makes no financial sense I think the Browns did really really well today jc -
Sal: Bills were going to draft Lattimore at 10
wilcoam replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First off, if you use the traditional point system, and use the Chiefs current 2nd round as point value for next years 1st, KC won the trade by 171 points, and if they draft 27th or higher next year, if its 20th, its an even trade And Sully is right, Andy Reid and the Chiefs absolutely know what they are doing, he has more more drafting exp than DW and SM combined Next, I disagree that White was the 7-9th best CB, he was in the top 5, and was expected to go late 1st round, top of 2nd, not a reach at all, a value pick That being said, I'm also pretty sure Lattimore would have been the pick had they not made the trade, so you have to ask yourself, would you have preferred our Bills have stood pat, drafted Lattimore, the best CB in the draft, or get the 4th or 5th best CB, plus a free 3rd rounder, and a free 2018 1st rounder? I'm taking the latter considering that we lost a number of solid starters this off season, so I like the trade, I like the pick, though I personally preferred one of the tackles or Foster, but I can see why folks don't think its a sexy pick, and or are not excited, on the other hand they guy is considered a superb nickel slot corner, and one hell of a punt returner jc -
Basically the Bills could have Lattimore the best CB in the draft Instead they now have White, the 5th best CB in the draft Plus an extra 3rd and an extra 2018 low 1st rounder IMO they are ahead but only it if they make the extra 3rd round pick count WR or OLB in the 2nd round? jc

Foster and the 2 T's plus Mckinnley DE-OLB, or Awuzzie CB All 5 are legit first rounders and fits need jc

McDermott: Teams Calling the Bills about the # 10 Pick
wilcoam replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would LOVE to see our Bills move down in the first and garner an extra high 2nd or 3rd round pick Sure, they might lose out on a Lattimore, Foster, and or Reddick However they still have their picks of countless solid WR's, CB's, RT's, and OLB's Plus they get to draft another potential starting player jc -
One reason why Bills might not be able to trade down
wilcoam replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be thrilled if no QB goes in the top 9, or one does, and the Brown's panic I'd be on the phone convincing them we are going to draft a QB, but will move down the 2 spots for an extra pick It's only 100 points difference but that's a 4th Funny we don't have a 4th this year Ditto moving down further if another team wants to move up Better yet, I'd ask our local media to run stories tomorrow saying we are taking a QB at #10 Whomever we can get at #10 isn't much difference than #12, #15, or low 20's But we could use an extra pick and stop this bad habit of giving away picks by moving up for players who are not worth moving up for.... jc -
'If' our new HC is making the pick, which I don't necessarily believe, I think its team effort, I would expect he will draft BPA of need IMO that precludes a QB at #10 I would think it will be a WR, a CB, or an OLB, and maybe a RT And it would not be a S, front 4, other O-Liners, a RB, a FB, or a TE So it'll be one of Ross,/Davis/Williams, or one of Foster/Reddick or Lattimore Look for Awuzzie/Sidney/CB in the 2nd, with maybe Zay Jones or Samuel, and or any 1st round OLB like Harris or Davis that falls jc

TG on Whaley & McD sounds to be in charge update
wilcoam replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not convinced that any of the Graham 'gossip' has validity but we will see What I do know is that folks on the boards who judge what our Bills do By an old school vision of what a traditional GM, Owners, and HC roles are have a misunderstanding of how Pegs runs his franchise I think Polish Dave nailed it DW and MCD are co-workers, as were DW and Rex They make personal decisions together and the final call is Pegs Now I'm not saying this is the right or wrong way to run this franchise I will say its a very attractive system for a HC, and very unattractive for a traditional GM Maybe the reason DW has lasted this long is that has been able to embrace it And knowing all this I would not say our HC has any more power than our GM nor vice versa But whadda I know.... jc -
We'll know in about 24 hrs if Leroi is right or wrong I still think we are taking one of Foster or Reddick at #10 if we stay there And then the best WR or CB in the 2nd round jc

Dareus play will make or break this Defense
wilcoam replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Considering the biggest problem on our D last year was the run It makes perfect sense that our best potential run stopping DT and run stopping MLB will make or break our D this year Common sense actually I believe Coach M already said Ragland will start inside That leaves Lorax and a draft pick pending playing outside Everyone else including Brown is depth I have to think we will draft potentially two OLB's this weekend jc -
Dareus play will make or break this Defense
wilcoam replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel the seem way about Reggie Ragland To me this draft pick, yet to play a single NFL game, is gonna make or break our D in 2017 After-all we traded up for him, he's a 2nd rounder, with a first round pedigree If the guy can really stop the run, its a game changer for us jc -
I found it interesting that they say the Browns are trying to move up from 12 to 8 and above I can;t imagine they think NO or Cinn covets the player they want at 9 or 11 Or do they One would think its to get ahead of Buffalo One would think its for a QB, but who knows I don't really care who we get except I hope the player has a bigger impact than any of our recent first rounders All of which were deemed brilliant picks by fans on message boards None of which ended up being so Though Sammy and or Darius have the potential to be impactful none have yet lived up to the expectation of where they were drafted jc

Hogan and Gilly Prove Bills Scouting Superiority
wilcoam replied to Madd Charlie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm neither bashing or rabidly supporting our GM, however I must point out that gaining 2-3 contributors in a draft, every year, is the minimum of what a team should get, its nothing to celebrate, and it does not put DW in the upper echelon of any GM rankings Except we didn't get even that last year, so DW drafting failed us in 2016, and it reflected in yet another unsuccessful campaign, true by 2017, 2018 and or 2019, we might look back at last years draft, and longterm the anyalsis might be rosier, just short term it was an abject failure As for DW having a year to prove his worth, talk to me when our team wins 10 games, until then his record is nothing but potential, the kind of potential a CJ Spiller once had, you know one great leap in 2014 with a 9-7 record, but since then, its a nothing burger, could be out of football soon, all the off season moves and so called scouting brilliance amounted to less success not more, lots of hype, no end delivery, no real dividends, not much return on capitol yet... Just saying -
Where are we at on 2018 Comp picks ?
wilcoam replied to Paul Costa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The irony is the same folks who don't care about free extra draft picks Got on ad naseum on what a great pick Seymour was last year and how he might start opposite Darby this year We are not going to get any We signed 7 FA and only lost 5 Our new HC seemed to convince our middling GM that signing 7 players rated 250th or worse in the league Was more important than receiving 2018 draft picks for the 2 top 150 players we lost jc -
McDermott Coaching Style - Good or Bad
wilcoam replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post Look every single NFL HC, OC, and DC are all the same They all have their own systems and they are not particulary flexible Its already a head scratcher why 65% of our secondary had to replaced this off season However if he wins no one will are If he losses, we;l look back at this off season as yet another sideways move bills style jc -
Prospect Watch: Mitch Trubisky QB, UNC
wilcoam replied to Maury Ballstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no issue with our Bills trading up to grab a QB if they really think this guy has a solid starting future in the NFL However I'm not sure just because they think that is so that they are automatically correct I'm referring to the post that claimed Dennison would automatically know what he's doing First he's not a pro scout Second you know hundred's of OC's have made that claim B4 and turned out to be dead wrong Did someone go over every QB prospect picked while Dennison was an OC and see if his advice was correct I'd have to say he's presently 0-3 with regard to Paxton, Seiman, & Yates If not why was there so much talk about landing Romo? That's not saying our Bills should not draft the guy, however the jury might be out for years if it ends up being a good or bad move Just cos the Bills do it, does not make it a successful one, nor automatically a unsuccessful one It does seem to point that drafting Cardale Jones was a compete waste of a 2016 4th round pick And if we do grab Mitch, he does NOT have to start from day one, it does not make the pick bad, that's just silly... You don't draft for 2017, you draft for 2017-2022 jc -
GB let him walk because he was neither a starting safety or cornerback and at S they had way better players Hyde was only GB's sometimes starting nickel back And Hyde is not necessarily an upgrade on either of the Bills starting safeties from last year Unless Hyde based on his age makes a leap in his 5th year in the NFL or is coached up His Walter football rating as the the 7th best FA safety Micah Hyde, a solid return specialist, is very good in run support but could stand to improve as a coverage safety/nickel corner. He won't be 27 until New Year's Eve So he'll have plenty of time to improve that facet of his game. Hyde's PFF rating was only as a CB cos that's where he took the majority of snaps last year Not safety He was rated a little outside the best starting 48 CB's in the NFL So a superb depth player, but unknown potential and or status as a starter Hyde's Dave Koch sports rating was a full point less than our S starters last year IMO Koch ratings are better than Madden but all metrics have their pros and cons But the point is he'll have to improve his game quite a bit to be equal to Graham Let alone automatically be an upgrade jc

CB Shareece Wright visiting Bills
wilcoam replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO Wright has a better year in 2016 than his 2015 campaign, yet he was still cut He's a potential camp body But he does not really have the skill level to be either a starting CB, or the first off the bench nickel back, in the NFL jc -
Sorry, I disagree that if Hogan had been offered a contract to play with our Bills last and this year that he would have not helped our offense That being said I liked the 5th round tender on Mike Though having seen what DW gave FA's this off season not sure why Mike didn't get the 2.8M Everyone else did, including Poyer.... jc

Ryan gave brother Rob "run of the place" in 2016.
wilcoam replied to JM2009's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO a good coach is someone who makes wins out of losses and whose game plan and scheme overcomes lack of talent And that's why Rex was fired by Pegs only after 2 years I think he would still be here regardless of TT's play and all the failings of our offense Because I give Rex credit for overseeing more points scored and a better efficient offense than what he took over in 2015 Which would have been the only reason to retain Rex That is in contrast to having taken over a 2014 #2D and utilizing a new scheme and coaching that got much less out of the talent When they continued that unabated in 2016 Pegs saw enough I believe it was the PIT game when our owner came to the same conclusion most of us already had during the prior season That's Rex's philosophy wasn't getting the most of our existing talent and he wasn't making wins out of loses And having his brother around didn't change anything jc -
No Gilmore, No Woods, No Brown, No Chance
wilcoam replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree Promo Lots of us feel very positive about the HC change Lots of us feel very positive about the players they retained and the contracts they renegotiated or cap room they saved However that does not mean we cannot be equally critical of not retaining quality players And or not going out and signing FA's or making trades that would replace them Or that the FA they did sign are not collectively very exciting After-all we need an increase of talented players from 2016 on the field to put us in position to win 10 games plus Not just a change in D/O schemes And not a decrease in starting talent I don't think as fans we should be uncritical of our team if they appear to be making off season moves that do not result in success jc
