Well journalist see their jobs and the organizations they work for as an important function in providing information to society.  So bad mouthing an employer is a little different in the circumstance where a journalist thinks the organization isn’t fulfilling its duty as well as it should and letting the public know is part of that function.  But..let’s be real sports writing and reporting is stretching all of the above a bit much.  We’re not talking about Watergate Journalism and it’s a lot closer to entertainment weekly.

I was going to say this is sports journalism not actual journalism. Sports don't matter in the large scheme of things, is just entertainment.

Whatever man. Just because you work for someone doesn’t mean You're not entitled to an opinion or have to work under those conditions.

He takes his work as a profession it appears and sees his responsibility in a lot bigger view than employee and employer. I don’t particularly like his columns because they are a tad thin in my opinion.  But I respect his view on what he did and why.  Don’t do things in life if you have options, even if it makes you uncomfortable - do what you believe in and want and you’ll be more satisfied in life, even if the money isn’t great.

I have no problem with him leaving a job, but to bad mouth your current employer is just bush league.

Not contributing clicks to anything Jerry Sullivan is connected to ever again.  I don't care what he says.  He was bitter when he worked for the BN, he's bitter now and lashing out at anyone and everyone other than himself and his hackery for losing his role at the paper.  I'm shocked.

Lol at taking losing his column as a slap in the face. Bro, you work for someone. When you boss tells you to do something different, you do it. You don't whine like a little school girl, you just do it.

As a journalist at a very small newspaper in northeast Iowa, what I wouldn't give to be the Bills or Sabres beat writer. People just don't understand how good they have it.

Who has been a WR coach for the past 30 years. He did have a few small stints as QB coach in the 80's at Southwest Louisiana and Western Kentucky...

I know. We can debate whether or not we have a good QB coach. But putting down Peterman because he can't mentor Allen is stupid, IMO. That's not Peterman's job. It is no QB's job, really. Favre refused to mentor Aaron Rodgers. Sometimes teams get lucky, and the veteran will help the young guy. Most times, it doesn't happen.

So from everything I read, young players seem to love him and he is a great teacher. He is able develop linemen. But he wants things done in very specific ways. Therefore, veterans who work with him ussually dislike hime, because he forces them to do it his way. The best example I could find was Eugene Monroe. This is what he said about Castillo:

"Juan likes to develop young players, because that's what he did in Philly," McKinnie said. "He is a good coach and he does help you with your technique, but he wants it done a certain way. My thing is everybody doesn't have the exact same talent or learn things the same way. I don't feel like you can coach everybody exactly the same, not everyone is going to react the same.

"Five individuals can't do the same thing instead of trying to make everybody a robot. You need to learn about your players and know their strengths and weaknesses and coach them that way. Juan is highly rated, but it takes time to adjust to what he's looking for."

Sounds like McDermont should have Juan take a couple education classes in the offseason if he retains him after this year. Would do wonders for his ability to coach. Everyone is an individual, and everyone learns differently. If Juan can't figure out how to get the best out of each player and develop them the way they learn best, he needs to go.

It might be time for the Pro Football HOF to farm out the sculpting duties to someone else.

Look at Ray Rice's real head and face.  Then look at the bust.

The size, proportions, and key facial features are all wrong, which is why the bust looks nothing like him.

The nose alone is from a different person.

    It's really quite poor sculpting.

Well, considering that is a picture of Ray Lewis, I think you are correct. They look nothing a like. ;)

Well only one of the four QBs selected is starting and thats Darnold.  So the fact that he isnt starting is no big deal.  Shouldnt Mayfield your number one overall pick have been able to beat TT who throws for 100 yards a game.

Allen did some things very well this preseason.  The third game was a joke due to our joke of an o line.

I think they are all just jealous cause hes so damn handsome!  Or so they tell me.

I think the plan in Cleveland was always to sit Mayfield. Mayfield would have had to complete blow TT out of the water to gain the starting job. Just simply being better wasn't going to be enough for Hue Jackson to turn to the rookie.

Would love to see the numbers on that.  Long term you're probably correct but In would highly doubt "most" 7th round picks are cut in their first year.

I would bet a majority of them are and then signed to practice squads. You are a bubble player the minute you're drafted especially since undrafted rookies are brought in immediately. When you draft someone in the fifth to seventh round you are basically saying, we want to guarantee ourselves a chance to see this kid in practice rather than hoping he signs with you after the draft.

What do we draft with a top 5 the first overall pick next year?

    There, fixed.

If we have the first overall pick unless there is some sure-fire hall of fame type OL. I bet we trade out unless Allen is a complete disaster. Some QB needy team will be looking to trade up and get someone. So we could end up with two firsts in 2020, maybe an extra second in 2019.
