If you’re upset about the WR room - BLAME DIGGS
Turk71 replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
You can blame Diggs for being the same guy he's always been but the Bills knew who he was; and still they put themselves in a position where he could damage the team. Giving him the large guaranteed money extension with 2 years still left on his contract was an unnecessary, self-inflicted mistake; especially with Allen about to sign his huge 2nd contract. That contract with the 2 years left would have expired after last season. A perfect time to move on and $31 million more to spend winning a SB this year. $31 million more this season could have made a big difference in their chances. Instead they have the biggest non QB dead cap hit in NFL history. Blame Diggs for being himself ...but Beane and the Bills should have known better, they did this to themselves. -
He had the 4th highest top in-game speed among all college rbs last season, 21.7 mph vs Florida. For comparison, Coleman's top speed last season was 19.6 mph
-
I see a lot of fans are labelling him a short yardage back.....Davis hit the 4th highest in-game top speed among all college rbs last season, 21.7 mph vs Florida.
-
Brenden Rice had the 5th highest top speed in college football last season and nobody says he's fast. He scored 12 tds and avg 17.5 per catch and nobody wanted to draft him. That is mind boggling to me. Troy Franklin with the 2nd fastest top speed and his 4.41 40 at the combine was a disappointment.

More data from Reel Analytics from 2023 season College Football’s Fastest Players: Most Appearances at 21.0+ mph Trey Benson, RB, Florida State: 3 times Dylan Edwards, RB, Colorado: 2 times Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State: 2 times Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon: 2 times Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas: 2 times No other player has hit 21.0 mph or higher more than once in 2023.

I'm just wondering why teams think he isn't any good. He looked impressive the few games I saw him play. -

Rice avg 17.6 yds and scored 12 tds last year, #1 target for the #1 pick in the draft....he's also Jerry Rice's kid and nobody wants him? Not even worth a 6th round pick? Puzzling -

Coleman = Benjamin, Davis = Moss - Beane players

Coleman was 11th among draft wrs in contested catch % at 45%. Not sure why everyone keeps claiming he's great at contested catches. -
These are the only guys who topped 21 mph more than once during 2023 season Harrison Franklin and Worthy the only wrs on it College Football’s Fastest Players: Most Appearances at 21.0+ mph Trey Benson, RB, Florida State: 3 times Dylan Edwards, RB, Colorado: 2 times Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State: 2 times Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon: 2 times Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas: 2 times No other player has hit 21.0 mph or higher more than once in 2023.

He caught 50 of those targets, not 85. That's only 57% of his targets....good drop % though
-
Your Shorter comparison is beyond ridiculous. Shorter never gained more than 580 yds in a season or scored more than 3 tds. Franklin was one of the most dominant wrs in the country, gaining almost 1400 yds with 14 tds. His yprr metrics are elite across the board, vs press, single, double, zone You don't like his route running? He is clever and deceptive and runs a full tree attacking all 3 levels. He's one of the better route runners in the class.

Troy Franklin was a top 3 wr recruit coming out of high school, rated higher than every single wr in this draft. Joe Brady was a big fan and tried hard to get him to LSU. Franklin's college career reaffirmed that he was one of the very best. If he had been healthy at the combine he would be off the board already imo. I consider him a top 4 wr in this draft and would rather have him than Thomas, Worthy, Mitchell, Legette, etc. I hope he's the target

His stock definitely took a hit at the combine....but the relatively polished skills and elite performance metrics are still there. I think he would be an absolute steal at the end of round 2.

Franklin is the guy. He's a really good route runner, clever and deceptive with his breaks. He's a smart football player with great instincts who excels in the open field and on extended, broken plays. Just turned 21 and his frame is still thin, but he beat press man coverage consistently at an elite yprr rate, best in the class I believe. His top end speed is a marvel to witness. None of the guys outside of the top 3 have consistently produced on the field like Franklin has, and none of them match his combined metrics in multiple yprr categories. https://www.pff.com/news/fantasy-football-how-2024-nfl-drafts-wide-receiver-class-stacks-up-using-key-stable-metrics He was also a top 3 recruit coming out of high school in '21, ranked higher than Nabers, Odunze, Harrison, Thomas, Mitchell, Legette, Worthy, McConkey, etc when they were recruited. This guy is a really good, smart football player with instincts and top end speed you can't teach. I think he can contribute immediately and I would definitely take him over McConkey or Legette.

Why would the Bills trade up for Mitchell? That would be dumb
-
Im thinking Troy Franklin is the pick... Just turned 21 a couple months ago and..... He's already a really good football player who runs clever routes and gets open consistently; he knows how to manipulate and fool DBs; beats press, man, and zone coverage consistently; excels at getting open on extended plays; has instincts in the open field that you can't teach and a top playing speed that is a sight to see. Concerns about his size are overblown imo, he just turned 21 a month or so ago and he'll fill out some still... Regardless, he's already one of the very best in the class vs press coverage and bigger cbs can't corral him at the line.

It would be a lot more useful and informative if they identified the other dots. Especially those 2 high in the northeast.....

Poll: How do we feel about Stefon Diggs the player?
Turk71 replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good riddance... Without the stupid extension it would have been a fond farewell, best of luck after last season. Guaranteeing him all that money and then having him act like such a selfish #######, forcing a big drain on this season changes my attitude to ***** you, gtfoh. He should be pelted with rotten fruit if he ever returns. -
I think Franklin's route running, football instincts, and explosiveness after the catch are top notch. I think he is ready to contribute immediately and he just turned 21. If the Bills like him they better grab him. I don't think he gets past the Chiefs myself.
-
I have also seen him play plenty of times. My response was to someone just declaring him a "true #1" when he hasn't had to be one. His game needs work before he is a complete receiver imo. He has great physical talents and can definitely get there......but he is not a slam dunk and might be more of a deep threat early in his career. Besides the top 3, I think Franklin might be the most pro ready. He is not the physical specimen Thomas is but he is a really good football player. Smart, clever, deceptive routes, an innate ability to get open, the instincts and explosiveness after the catch to be a threat from anywhere on the field. Had no problems getting off the line and beating man coverage consistently. I will not be surprised if he is productive from the start and has a really good rookie year.
