I'm sorry, I'm just a little amazed at all of this talk about how horrible we're going to be. I actually can't believe anyone thinks this team is going to be a 4-12 or worse with such confidence. Amazing! So, I ask, how have we regressed so much? Shall we take it position by position? QB: I am aware this is the big controversial position. But are we worse with a 3rd year Tyrod Taylor, hope promising young Rookie, and a vet who at least has knowledge in the system than a 2nd year Taylor, EJ Manuel and Cardale Jones? I guess the offensive system is the answer to this question so we're going to see soon enough RB: McCoy is a year older but it doesn't seem like he's lost a step. Who knows about our backups but these zone blocking schemes are designed for RBs to thrive, aren't they? Tolbert's better than Felton. Doesn't seem much worse, if worse. WR: Obvious question mark. But let's be honest about our WRs last year: Sammy and Woods missed 11 combined games last year. That's tied with a few teams and the only fewer than San Diego in terms of number one and number two wide receiver's missing games. We had street wide receivers. Right now our WR core seems worse on paper, but if Matthews can stay healthy and Jones can keep looking like he has in the preseason I don't know how much of a step down our WR core will really be. Like the QB I think it's another wait and see. Powell might be a welcome addition after week 4. TEs: Better, no? Seems there will be a focus on getting them the ball and O'Leary has another year and looks good and Thomas looks like a promising prospect. OL: Worse to begin the season with questions surrounding Glenn and RG and RT, but I suspect both will be solidified relatively quickly. Just gotta hope Glenn stays healthy. K: BETTER!!! Punter: Same Coverage: I honestly have no clue DL: Sure did operate a lot better under a 4-3 than a 3-4, didn't it? Yeah there are questions but Kyle doesn't seem to be slowing down and it sounds like Hughes and Lawson will be really good in this D. Marcel is so freaking talented let's just hope he "buys in." Yarborough looks like a promising backup among others. LBs: Not a clue honestly but sounds like Brown will be a lot better. Lorax was a gem last year and if he's nearly as good it just means good things. CB: Brand new defense so can we maybe wait to freak out? White looks great. Gaines is a strong zone CB and that's what we're running. Same with Wright. Josh Norman thrived in this system that ultimately made him a star... not nearly as good now in a new system in Washington, is he? S: Top heavy and not deep but I think Hyde and Poyer are better than what we had last year. Coaching: It's everything. If it's good, I think we win a lot. If not we lose. I know that sounds simple, but we saw gross incompetence at that spot in the last couple years in particular. I think we see better. I don't really make predictions, but I can't believe all the folks calling us a 4-12 team. Point to the schedule if you want I guess, but even that seems a little simple minded given the consistent inconsistency of teams in the NFL. The night is darkest before the dawn, folks. Dawn comes in less than a week

Sullivan: Pump the brakes on Peterman.
transplantbillsfan replied to JM2009's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When are people going to understand that the offense we've seen Taylor run probably won't really resemble the offense he's going to run during the regular season. Anyone paying close attention probably would've noticed how often Peterman was in the shotgun passing and even handing the ball off. Notice that Taylor didn't hand the ball off even once in the shotgun despite doing it countless times last year? There's a reason for that. Beane said it. It's been posted a number of times. Look it up. -
So who's YOUR starting qb?

Ignore you?!?! A blatant liar spreading complete and utter crap about me? Here's a better idea, stop being a liar! -

Dude... stop lying. I've been banned once in 10 years on Bills boards as a poster, and that was here when a mod told me he was trying to crack down on all the new posters before the regular season starts. Honestly, lying intentionally is a pretty vile CoC offense, isn't it? -

I don't think it does for many, but definitely does for some. -

I didn't call any individual anything at all. And I'm not saying every individual arguing a certain point is anything, either. I wonder why some individuals are responding so explosively -

I just stepped back after stepping out and running errands and I can't believe the explosive response. I purposely sad that I wasn't pointing fingers at any individual and that it wasn't everyone who is "anti Tyrod," but it's part of the zeitgeist of Football. It kept Warren Moon out of the NFL for years. It's amazing how anyone can even deny it's not still prevalent in the NFL. I just read in the Josh Allen thread earlier today comment from another poster who I respect who mentioned something in response to people who didn't see the appeal of him that "he's a tall white QB" or something to that effect and no one blew up at that comment despite the obvious race implications. Amazing. Add race to religion and politics as those off-limits topics of discussion. Incredible if you really thought that was seriously that offensive. -

Yes. Did you not understand the word? I'm not pointing to any individual or even saying it plays a role for everyone, but it's definitely part of the football zeitgeist. -

Love it! I think folks are just infatuated with the traditional white pocket passer. I'm struggling to understand what you just wrote, especially your first paragraph EDIT: now I see you fixed it -

Arm strength to get the ball anywhere on the field. Always keeps his eyes down the field for WRs even after plays break down before he runs. One of the better QBs in the NFL on 3rd and long over the last 2 years. Work ethic. Even keeled emotionally. -

Funny. You don't really seem to have a clue what I actually believe if by "something he isn't" you mean an exceptional pocket passer. But I'm tired of explaining what I actually think and everyone is pretty seriously entrenched in their camps. And what's funny is that there are really 2 camps and most of these "Champions of Tyrod" are pretty much in the middle here, but because of the absolute insanity of some of the anTy arguments from the fringes, defenses like "he's been an average NFL QB" turn into lunacies like "you claimed he's better than Kelly" or "you said he's Elite." It's just stupid and frustrating. If Dennison operates an offense predicated to Taylor's strengths, Taylor could potentially have a top 10-15 QB season and with the improvements I expect on Defense, this team can finally make the playoffs. And if he can't and/or we don't, we either bench him to see Peterman for the rest of a wasted season or we just use all our stockpiled draft picks to hopefully and finally get our answer at QB. That's pretty much what the general CoT position is, at least as far as I'm concerned. -

Do as I say, not as I do, eh? doesn't seem like you ignore Jm very well -
I'm going to help you out here. You seem to think you're never dishonest but you have two good examples right here. 1) Your 3 and out comment is obviously hyperbolic, but boy is it misleading. The first two games of the season we were really bad in terms of 3 and outs. After that the offense under Taylor was actually in the top half of the league in 3 and out percentage. I don't know if you're trying to just be more of a funny man here or actually say something true, but if it's the latter, you're dishonest. 2) You left out the Jacksonville game. That was also a come from behind victory. Dishonesty. Or you just forgot. Either way, that statement was false, along with Taylor being "the only reason" for the team being down in that game. I could throw in a third dishonest aspect here, but I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you were just referring to 2016 when you were talking about Taylor playing well against winning teams. He played very well against the 2015 Houston Texans, and eventual playoff team. In fact, he let a game-winning drive at the end of fourth-quarter in the game

Did you watch the game last night? Or any of them, for that matter? Notice all the plays from shotgun for Peterman? Did you notice they even moved him around a bit for some passes? The offensive play calling will be predicated on who's under center, and if you watched Peterman there were plenty of plays they gave him that're clearly more for Taylor... except Taylor's preseason snaps consisted mostly of plays under center where Peterman seems a bit more comfortable. Hmmm... coincidence? I think you guys have heard me say it, making plays from the pocket -- I think we've tried to force that on him and work on that, and I think he's gotten better. I think he'll be better prepared. We know he can move around, the boots, the waggles, all that stuff -- you know, the zone reads. We know he can do that and we'll definitely plan to use that in the season. But, I think in practice you've been able to see the improvement in the pocket and even some plays in the game. That was Brandon Beane yesterday. Shocking... it's like there's a plan here and Taylor's involved in it. Three or four preseason games don't earn you the starting job in the NFL. Training camp does. Sure, preseason means something. But some of you make it seem like that's all or even most of the evaluation tool coaches actually use. Too funny

There's not much rationale in this except for the fact that Beane and McDermott pretty consistently say that Taylor is the Bills starting QB. So, if Taylor is the Bills starting QB, that means he's the guy on the field during the regular season. And if he's the guy on the field during the regular season, that means he's the QB of the Buffalo Bills when they're either winning or losing games either largely or partially or in spite of him. And if he's the guy on the field during the regular season, and he plays really well, and the Buffalo Bills win a lot of games and make the playoffs and win a game or two or three, that means that Beane and McDermott are going to have to seriously decide whether he can be the long term answer. And if we win a bunch of games and make the playoffs, we're going to be at the bottom of round one and will need to find a trade partner if we want to trade up to get another QB because we're so unhappy with Taylor because if they win all those games with Taylor playing really well and you think they're going into the following season saying Nate Peterman is the starting QB, you're nuts. Now yes, some of those are a stretch, particularly the 2nd to last one. But if Taylor plays pretty well and the team is winning, Peterman won't even see the field. How can a guy who the coaches aren't even likely hoping to see on the football field in the regular season have more of a chance at a future in Buffalo than the guy who's going to have the opportunity to actually prove he is in live game action?

Why do we need to do that if it's still doubtful he's an NFL starting QB? Prophesize away... A lot can happen in the course of a season or two. I'm sorry, are you talking about preseason here? And a preseason where the GM just publicly said that the offense he was operating really wasn't the offense he'd be operating during the regular season... are those the games you're talking about in terms of his QBR?
