Bills vs. Bengals Postgame
transplantbillsfan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And our best WR today dropped a nice pass over the middle on a critical 3rd down that would have put us in FG range. Instead, an all-too-familiar drop and no points. -

It's not Shady. Playcalling and our OL are pretty big problems, though. -

On the surface it just looked baaaad. But at the same time, our WR corps is the worst in the NFL and Taylor lost his only reliable weapon on offense other than McCoy. At least a couple of the sacks he took were just coverage sacks because our crappy WRs couldn't get open. Some bad playcalling and some bad passes by Taylor and this was a game the Bengals were literally trying to give to us and we just couldn't take it. Oh well, I doubt anyone would have said they'd be upset with 3-2 at the bye, but the team has some work to do in the next couple weeks. -
He's supposed to be an expert, so he gets a pass because he gets to watch football for a living but there are 32 teams and "that's a lot of film?" That seems a little preposterous to me. Parts of this article get dumber and dumber the more I go back and read it. But boy oh boy, the anTy Taylor guys are loving it!

Taylor -- 106.7 rating today

All right, I'll bite. Can you name the passes? Here's what I bet: you're going to identify long passes that were too long, which really aren't bad throws because they aren't interceptable passes. Just off the top of my head (and I rewatched the game, too), his worst pass was the overthrow to Jones on the left side line where the ball went out of bounds. And his worst non-throw that he should have thrown was a sack he took where he could have delivered the ball to Logan Thomas who came open about 20 yards up the middle of the field. That was one incompletion and one sack. I know that there were three drops (2 by Jones, 1 by Clay), there was the overthrow to the WR Clay on the second to last play of the first half that wasn't really a bad throw, it was just taking a shot. So we have 17 of his 20 passes accounted for here. Can you take us through those three other passes and explain to us how those three passes were so terrible? Or better yet, how the number 4 (the 3 you're about to explain along with the bad pass I mentioned already) is "so many" when the reality is that it's just 20% of all of his pass attempts? -
Look at everyone doubling down. Strange that this is happening after two victories over two of the best teams in the NFL where Taylor played well and made some downright spectacular throws. Benoit's comments on the whole team, to me, look like he's just glazing over the games at best. He's doubling down. Isn't that obvious? If he weren't, he would have at least noted the progress Taylor has clearly made in aspects of his game that Benoit has criticized for the last 2 years. Through four games Taylor is noticeably better at going through his progressions and throwing over the middle. But no mention of that from Benoit. And the leeches are out in full force sucking on those words as though their lives depended on it. If Taylor averages just 200 yards the rest of the season, but every one of those games is similar to the last two and the Jets game to start the season and this team goes, say 11-5 and wins a playoff game, I think the leeches here are going to be disappointed in what McDermott does not do in the 1st round of the draft next year. Maybe Benoit should go back and rewatch the film focusing on our secondary and pass rush, which he didn't seem to evaluate very well. Maybe he was just blinded by the combination of his dislike for Taylor with his efficiency and our team success so he had to scramble for some qualifiers to maintain his credibility.

Benoit has always disliked Taylor. This just sounds like he's doubling down. He doesn't help his own credibility with the way he talks about the secondary or our pass rushers in that article, though. He glazed over Gaines and Poyer like they were just low level journeymen when Poyer has arguably been our most dominant defensive player throughout our first 4 games.

Taylor -- 106.7 rating today

Are you being sarcastic? He passed for 300 yards against Miami last year. What does this post accomplish? Reason to gloat if Taylor can't win a playoff game? What if he does? You gonna change usernames? -

Franchise QB vs Winning Season
transplantbillsfan replied to TFBillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said entering his prime. You understand I was referring to age, right? Late 20s early 30s are usually considered prime QB years. You seem to be taking the phrase "entering his prime" all wrong. But saying he's not better than when he was drafted is one of the dumbest comment I've ever read about Taylor. With that said, Taylor is playing a lot better than whatever your perception seems to be. I legitimately think Tyrod Taylor's ability and style of play is ideal for a defensive minded coach like McDermott and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the coach is happy with Taylor and is already salivating over all those draft choices we have that we might not be forced to use on a franchise QB because he already feels he's got one. It's a long season and I suspect there will be games that we air it out more, but it's foolish to believe that every head coach wants his QB throwing the football 30+ times per game for 300 yards all the time. -

Ummmmm..... nope. That's just an atrocious approach to the draft. I don't think you understood my post. In my scenario, Tyrod Taylor is our Franchise QB. -

Here's what I don't like about this conversation for years: with Taylor or any other QB: people feel the need to speak so definitively all the time. "Taylor isn't a franchise QB." At least throw the word that belongs at the end of that sentence... YET. He's still playing and still has every opportunity to prove it. Plus, that statement presumes that Taylor isn't good enough in McDermott's eyes. Why are you so sure about that? Seems like a guy like Taylor who is already implanted on your roster as a veteran QB probably just now entering his prime who protects the ball so well but can make incredible throws, has the respect of all his teammates, has an NFL arm, has Elite athleticism, has incredible character and seems to be improving on aspects of his game folks have criticized him over his first two years as a starter (going through progressions, throwing over the middle, etc.) might actually be a guy that a coach who wants to both win now as well as build for the future views as a Franchise QB right now? I have no idea how this year or the offseason or the draft will play out, but guess what, neither does anyone else. So this constant need to qualify almost every statement about Taylor's play with "well, we're still going to draft a QB in the first" is just a little ridiculous. Who knows what happens? Taylor might very well be our Franchise QB if he keeps playing so efficiently and the team keeps winning. I'm not running out the door to buy a Taylor jersey or anything, but it's very possible that a year or two from now his jersey becomes the first QB jersey since Kelly Bills fans can walk around wearing without wondering whether he'll be on a different team or out of the league the following year. -

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/qb Footballoutsiders currently has Taylor at #16 in DYAR and #9 in DVOA. Passer Rating has him tied at #7. Total Qbr has him at #9. You factor all that in with what you see in terms of his play on the field and I think putting Taylor in the top 10 to start the 2017 season is perfectly reasonable. -

How about a winning season and a franchise QB... as in Tyrod Taylor continuing to play well this year? A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
