Rumor: Shady on the Trade Block
transplantbillsfan replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean... really...? I believe we'll try hard to move up for a QB, but it just seems like Shady's really bought in and that really matters to McDermott. I don't know if I believe this. I love Shady as a Bill. I hope we don't trade him. -

Can? They can do it now. Just cut him. That's what so many of you believe we'll inevitably do, right? Why hasn't that happened yet? Pretty sure we don't have to wait for the new league year for that. -
Sooo... are you saying Mayfield might be exactly the guy McBeane is targeting and that they've somehow got it figured out that he's going to fall to them at 21? I don't know anything except for the fact that if we stay put at 21 expecting to draft our future Franchise QB in an apparently extremely top heavy QB class, we almost certainly aren't getting our #1 choice and maybe not even #2 or #3. Leftovers can be delicious. But they're still leftovers.

Hey, thanks for that link to 716's scouting report of Rudolph. I haven't seen that. In this draft there are 2 QBs I'd like to trade up for: Mayfield & Darnold. 2 QBs I'd like to draft if we don't trade up: Rudolph and Jackson, the latter of whom I've warmed up to. 1 QB I'm just not even thinking about because, despite the rumors, I don't really think he's on our radar: Rosen. And please don't draft Allen!!! -

I'll be honest, the two most likely veteran QB options as far as guys McBean are actually planning on starting at QB and not just being a veteran mentor backup, I believe, are Taylor or Cousins, for almost opposite reasons. Cousins is the only QB that I can see Buffalo going after legitimately in the open market and paying a lot of money for. Why? Because he's the only QB in the open market who legitimately has a shot to be a franchise Quarterback for a team. If we acquire cousins, we're building the team with all of our draft and are obviously not going to spend first round pick on a QB. If we don't acquire Cousins, unless we are planning on trading the farm to go up and get "our guy," whether Rosen or Darnold or Mayfield (and even maybe if we do go up and get them we still keep him), then Taylor likely stays on what is really an ideal Bridge deal for a starting QB to let a rookie who needs time to learn the game ride the bench for one year. Think the Chiefs with Alex Smith last year but we won't need to search for a trade partner. McDermott is really close with Andy Reid... you can bet he paid attention to what he did with Smith/Mahomes and likely even talks to Reid about it. I really don't think any of the Vikings QBs, McCarron, Foles, etc are seriously being considered because I think OBD wants to nail this QB decision out of the park. That, at least in terms of immediate PR appearance, would solely be Kirk Cousins or a 1st round QB we ideally trade up for in order to demonstrate that he was truly "our guy." Weird... I thought you were ignoring me. Hey... remember when you said "there can't be more than a half dozen posters who think Taylor will be back next year"...? Man... you were waaaAAAAaaayyyyy off -

http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2018/02/16/fan-friday-2-16/ 1 – Hi Chris, Many thanks for all the updates and info this past season. With all the focus on the upcoming draft is there any chance the Bills look to keep Tyrod with a new OC whose scheme may better fit Tyrod’s skill set? Then look to fill holes with all the draft picks they have acquired and/or hope one of the non-top 5 QB’s are still there at 21/22? I realize it is early in the process as GM Beane noted and a lot could change. Thank you. Bryon Plattsburgh, NY CB: You’re right that a lot can change between now and the week after the NFL draft. That being said, I think there is a real possibility that Tyrod Taylor remains the starter. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the quarterback position in terms of what could be available in free agency and who is affordable in a way that doesn’t cripple a team’s cap situation. As for new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, he certainly comes in with very recent experience working with a mobile quarterback in Alabama’s Jalen Hurts. I’m sure there will be a lot of conversations among the offensive staff this offseason as to what, and with whom, their best approach would be to move the offense forward. The passing game was frankly substandard last season. Can Daboll help to improve it with Taylor in the lineup? That’s the big question. The next question is what other quarterback talent can the Bills realistically acquire in terms of price tag and/or draft capital. There may not be defined answers on the draft capital question until a week or two before the draft. And with more demand than supply concerning free agent QBs, the price to acquire one is going up and some teams are likely going to overpay. I get the sense that Bills GM Brandon Beane isn’t big on overpaying, even at QB. -

You've been awfully serious as of late. The reactions on this message board will be absolutely hilarious if that's what happens. I wouldn't be surprised if SDS just shuts the board down until the start of the 2nd round the next day for fear of having to ban most of the posters -

Agreed on all counts. Just target and draft a damn 1st round QB, please! -
Guess the longshot QB
transplantbillsfan replied to BuffaloHokie13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the primary folks who view Taylor as a longshot starter in 2018 for the Bills are the national media who doesn't really focus on or care much about the Bills and a faction of fans on places like this message board who have generally disdained Taylor for the bulk of his tenure in Buffalo. We might cut him, but even the national reporters like Rappaport are catching onto the fact that even that is rather unlikely. We might trade him, if we can. We might go after Cousins, but at his price tag, I just kind of doubt it. I'm 99.9% sure we're drafting a QB in the first round to replace him and eager to see who that might be (Please GOD don't let it be Josh Allen!!!), but good GOD, can you just imagine the uproar here the night of Thursday, April 26th if the 1st round ends and in the 1st round the Bills didn't trade up and, instead, spent their 2 1st round picks on a DL and OL!!! -

Bills to explore trade market for tyrod
transplantbillsfan replied to The juice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably because of the other side of this coin. It's likely a simple "If/then" statement: IF the Bills are considering keeping him past the March 16th deadline, paying him the $6million bonus in an effort to trade him for something better THEN they are also considering keeping him on the team in 2018 if they don't get what they feel is fair compensation for him. Well, that's the point I just addressed. They wouldn't cut him if they kept him after March 16th. If the Bills are considering keeping him, paying his bonus, and exploring trade options between March 16th and the draft. They're also very likely considering keeping him for the remainder of his contract if they don't get what they feel is fair value for him. -

I think it's March 16th... but it sounds like the Bills are considering keeping him, paying him the bonus, and continuing to explore trade options approaching draft time, likely in an effort to move up in the draft to get a QB. Once the Bills pay him the $6million bonus, other teams are not liable for that money. -

I mean... really people... of course the Bills are going to explore trade options for Taylor. March 17th isn't the definitive date we know whether Taylor remains a Bill in 2018. It's after the draft. I anticipate the Bills are considering packages they can put together to trade up into the top 5 so they can land Mayfield/Darnold/Rosen and I expect the Bills would like to make Taylor part of that package in order to keep draft picks while the leap up to draft the guy to replace him. It's amazing this has to be reported considering how obvious it is that a team would be exploring all options in the offseason -
