Absolutely insane take. Best case scenario he's near the bottom of the top 15. there are 10 coaches I would take over him without hesitation and a good handful more that have a clear edge. When I look at coaches that are definitively worse than McD, it's a very short short list. There are a lot of first year head coaches that will probably end up better too.

When you have a top QB in what was an extremely weak division for the last few years, numbers will skew in your favor. Mike Smith has a higher career winning percentage than Bill Parcells, Kyle Shanahan, Doug Pederson, Jimmy Johnson, Marv Levy and a bunch of guys with gold jackets. If you ever watched his teams play, I think you'd know that had a lot more to do with Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Julio Jones and others than it did with his football acumen. P.S. He also has 5 more losses than Reid since 2020, and that isn't changing any time soon.

Why is this team, and staff, so dumb?
BullBuchanan replied to Bermuda Triangle's topic in The Stadium Wall
The difference, and the bit of critical importance, is in the why. Teams miss plays or struggle with situational assignments every week, even future Super Bowl champions. No one is disputing that. When teams and players struggle the same way, for the same reasons year over year that's not at all the same thing as KC barely escaping with a win against the Jets or Vikings or SF dropping two games in a row to big underdogs. When we get sent home in January (or earlier), you can pretend to be surprised or think we were just one or two plays away, but the story of what will happen this winter was started years ago and this chapter was written in the offseason both by the Bills' action and inaction. -

It's simple: McDermott is in the bottom tier of mediocre coaches. He's a great culture and clubhouse guy, but he's a bad gameday coach and a poor talent evaluator. If he didn't have Josh Allen, he would have been out of a job years ago. I hope Ted Lasso pays him a residual because I'm fairly certain he's the inspiration for the title character. -
Bills now Vegas betting favorites to land Derrick Henry
BullBuchanan replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's 285. He would not compete at all with AJ. They play entirely different positions. He's basically the player you hope Oliver becomes. There's only a small handful of competent 1T DTs in the league and we already had one on the roster. It's unlikely you're finding another one. Rather, you might be relying on adapting scheme or asking your existing players to fill the gap. He gives you that option with a half year remaining on his deal and still playing at a very high level. He played DT for the Colts in a 4-3 along with DeForest Buckner another traditional 3T, but was able to move to wherever he was needed. JJ Watt and Haloti Ngata are two example of players who did similar things and there are others. If you don't like the player or the deal, that's fine, but at least categorize who he is correctly. -

Autry is a DT that can and does play all over the line. -

If they're on the phone with the titans, Denico Autry would make way more sense -

It's probably to add him to the PS to take Ty Johnson's spot. Bills fans have been talking about 2 running back sets for 20 years and it hasn't been a thing NFL teams have done in a meaningful way since Dunn & Alstott. -
There are lots of wild card spots now too. You have to be truly terrible now to miss the playoffs with 7 teams on a 17 game schedule

I don't even care about the regular season at all. As far as I'm concerned, it's a 17 game pre-season. The bigger issue is that this isn't a championship team. Not even remotely close. Does anyone want another division championship with a guaranteed 1st or 2nd round bounce?

Taking the "Josh" out of Josh Allen's game
BullBuchanan replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm starting to reach the point where I just don't think he has the football IQ and brain processing power to play this game at a level that matches his physical gifts, and that lack of mental ability is hampering his physical game. We see it all the time. He almost never throws at the top of his drop, except in 2 minute drills, where he looks unstoppable. Instead, he takes a snap, locks in on the #1 read(Diggs) the whole way through, panics when they aren't immediately open, panics and breaks the pocket, and then throws an ill-advised or poor quality pass on the run. In the 3 good games he played this season he did a lot less of that, and in the 3 terrible games he played this season, he did a ton of it. Unfortunately for him, none of this is new, but rather goes back to his college days and maybe even before. If he's ever going to overcome this, he needs A LOT more time in the classroom and maybe therapist of some sort or even a shaman that helps him clear his mind and figure out how to process information. -
Watching the Chiefs game. Bills no where near them.

Taking the "Josh" out of Josh Allen's game
BullBuchanan replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
That version of Allen wasn't good enough to win. We tried it for 5 years. Maybe this version won't be good enough either, but it makes more sense than trying to Hollywood your way to a Super Bowl which we know doesn't work. -
What was the first R Rated movie you saw?
BullBuchanan replied to BillsPride12's topic in Off the Wall
I don't remember the first, as I watched a lot of movies even as a kid, but Beverly Hills Cop, True Lies and Friday the 13th (whichever one) were all early watches. -
Your very true feelings for tomorrow outcome
BullBuchanan replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm very bearish on our season at this point, but I think this is a get right game for the Bills. New England is basically the same team we played last week, except their offense is even worse. I expect us to run up the score pretty severely on NE, and I'd be shocked if they score more than 10 points due to their ineptitude under center. -
I think his lack of usage came down to how excellent Murray has been this year. I definitely didn't expect to see Murray to be this big of a factor for us when they brought him in.

If a Super Bowl comes we will need a drastically better team and/or coach OR Allen will have to be playing like the best player in the league for an entire playoff run. The problem with evaluating him is that he's only capable of doing it one game at a time where a guy like Mahomes and even Burrow can put together multi-game stretches. In the case of Mahomes, he's on more than he's off and when he's playing like the best, it's effortless. For Allen, we've only seen him be the best when he's in Hollywood mode, and to no surprise, that's also when he's at his worst. The version of Allen we've seen this year is championship caliber, but not with this roster. He's playing the overall best football of his career, and if they find themselves with the best record in the conference, he just might have an outside shot at MVP if he plays more games like he did against Vegas, Miami and Washington than he did against NYJ, Jax, and NYG. He doesn't have the stacked team that Philly or San Francisco does, he doesn't have one of the best coaches in the league like KC or SF, and he isn't Mahomes where it just comes easy. Allen can be anywhere from #1- #20 on any given day, but on average I put him at #3. When he's in Hollywood mode, he's more likely to be at the extremes which gives him a higher ceiling but a far lower floor. if they figure out the balance of Game manager Allen vs Hollywood Allen, or just call better plays, he could cement in at #2.

If the Bills Don’t Make it to the AFCCG, Should McDermott Be Fired?
BullBuchanan replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
He should be, but they won't and he won't. I figure he'll be here another 5-10 years. -
IF Allen Tried to Force His Way Out of Buffalo...
BullBuchanan replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall
Allen is having th best season of his career while being "neutered". Hollywood Allen was killing us, and this is the only way he has a chance to win a thing. As I mentioned elsewhere, they've swung too far the other way, but if they eventually get the balance right, that's josh's best hope for an MVP or SB win. -
McD and Daboll hate each other probably 🤣
BullBuchanan replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mack never lived up to the hype, imo. The dude turned into a ghost as soon as he got his check. He hasn't had a double digits sack season since 2018 and would routinely disappear for 2+ games at a time, make one sack and then disappear again. This year he had a 6 sack miracle game and nothing else. If I wanted to spend $130M in 2018 money, I'd pick a different horse.
