They will technically have the ability, but they absolutely won't use it until they franchise him at least once. So they are "stuck" even if it's techncially by their own doing, because that's the forced meta. Teams just don't get rid of franchise level QBs in their prime, even if they aren't good enough to win it all. Up until this season there was similar criticism lobbed at Lamar Jackson, Dak (and there might be again soon, despite a near MVP season), and yes even Josh Allen. It doesn't mean any of those teams are getting rid of their star QBs any time soon, because it just doesn't happen without a massive stroke of luck.

Well there's zero chance he'll be "healthy". It's possible he'll be available though.
-
What you're suggesting doesn't ever happen unless it's in the specific I liad out which requires extreme fortune in your favor. It has nothing to do with whether or not your Head Coach is a genius or not. Right - so they're stuck with him a minimum of 2 more years, even if he doesn't get any better. Realistically, they'll probably still have to re-sign him to a medium term deal even if they know he can't get it done, because that's the way it works with NFL QBs. The team is built to win now. They aren't starting over with a rookie QB. It lets them play at home where they play much better than in the cold. Will it be enough? Maybe not, bu I think it's their best chance as long as they have teams like Buffalo, KC, Bal, Pitt with open air stadiums to play against.

What are you gonna do? It's not like they can draft a QB this year after Tua led the league in yards, and a coach's leash is very short. It's almost impossible for them to move on from Tua barring injury for at least 2-3 years. It's just not a thing that happens in the NFL unless you have a late round pick that turns into a super star due to injury.
-
They're a good team and generally well coached, though I do question the gameplan they've been using the last few weeks. Tua played scared all day it seemed, making lots of throws to players that weren't in a position to move the ball. It'll be interesting to see an all-22 breakdown of this one. Not sure Tua is good enough to get it done for them unless they're able to snag a #1 seed.

Flacco quit. What a way to go out.
-
What loser mentality with the cleveland clock management. 40 seconds and timeout and you quit? I think they're gonna get blown out now.

Stroud is maybe the best looking rookie QB I've ever seen. Dude is sick. I definitely did not expect this from him.

USFL-XFL merge; become UFL w/USFL and XFL divisions

The same reason people watch the NFL? Enjoyment. -
Sam Martin named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month
BullBuchanan replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
If your goal is to pin an opponent within the 20, he's in company with the all-time greats over the course of a career as I detailed in the Martin complaining thread a few weeks back. If you want distance, you could do better, but for a team like the Bills, I'd argue the former is more important. -

Because we already have a great Punter who just won Special Teams player of the month. Oh yea, and he's a pervert. -

100% Cool. What are his NFL stats? -

What harm could it do bringing literally any other NFL quality punter into training camp? It's like people actively want the guy for reasons that have nothing to do with his ability. -
As much as I'm relieved that the days of Belichick owning us are over, it's kind of a sad. He was the greatest coach I ever saw in any sport, and I don't think I'll see his like again. It was easy to hate him as a rival, but we would have loved to have him here.

We split the wine two ways but we each get our own bottle of whiskey.
-
A nightly bottle of wine at dinner and an after dinner whiskey for dessert is a pretty standard experience around here. I've never thought of it as a dependency thing and isn't really about getting intoxicated - more about just making every meal and evening as nice as possible - though I have considered at times that it may be habit forming even if no one is getting sloppy. After a good 10 years of it being the norm, I don't find I need a drink when it's not there, but it all makes you wonder, especially when you come from families that have problems.

Sam Martin named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month

If Araiza was any good at all, he'd at least be on an NFL practice squad. The infatuation with a dude that never kicked a ball in the NFL is insane. -

Weird. All I hear around here is that he's terrible and should be cut. -
How many of those 84, 73, 61, 57, 81,73 were top 2 corners? I'm guessing not most. While you're presenting rankings against peers that may have played a handful of snaps all year, I posted objective emasurements that show him as not only being best in class in this year's NFL talent, but also in several cases having an historic season for a CB. Him having 3 modest->poor showings throughout the year (against high end->elite competition, btw) actually goes to prove how incredible his season was. You take away those three games, and he allowed 255 yards across 14 games as the number 1 corner. That's 18 yards a game. It's completely insane how good that is. Try again.

We don't really know how the money is working out. He could have resigned his coaching position, forfeiting his coaching compensation and then signed up for executive compensation. Lots of coaches have stepped into executive roles following their coaching careers.

Why did clock stop after Allen’s amazing 3rd and 13 run
BullBuchanan replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I noticed the same thing. The holding call makes sense. Either it was a *****up on the coaching staff not knowing that when they accepted or they figured the yardage helped more somehow. -
Leslie Fraizer Interviewing with Chargers
BullBuchanan replied to 17islongenough's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's not the way that works. You can be qualified for your current role and not your boss' role. Otherwise none of us would be subordinates. The guys you mentioned are not "usual suspects" they're legitimate. I understand you're trying to push a dodgy political narrative, but if you want to do that, you probably want better examples, like when teams give HC interviews to low level assistants. I hate teaching people to be better bad-faith actors, but it gets embarrassing after a while. -
Can you back that up with anything? Sure didn't look like it when I watched him. He's got a 90.4 PFF grade He's allowing a passer rating of 60.8 to opposing QBs He leads the NFL in interceptions He set the season record for pick-6es in a season He set the record for INT return yards in a season He's tied for 7th in passes defensed He's allowed only 661 yards in receptions - 38.8 yards a game (One yard more than Surtain) edit: Oh yea, he also had 8 games this season where he allowed less than 10 yards receiving, including 3 games where he allowed 0 or less yards. I have high expectations for your counter arguments. Super excited.

Why are you laughing at Bland - dude should have a legitimate shot at DPOY. Best CB in football this year

The pass to Johnson at the end of the first half...
BullBuchanan replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good teams don't cry about flags they didn't get. It was a bad decision to throw that ball because the end result was very likely to happen and it did. He could have tackled him lower and it would have been the same thing.- 131 replies
