  1. On the contrary: https://onherturf.nbcsports.com/2021/09/09/2021-nfl-season-record-12-women-coaches/ This is to say nothing of the impact in the executive suite. If you're over the age of 30, you're old enough to see this transformation take place in real time int he private sector as well. When i went to college, we had 8 women as members of our class. The landscape of today looks FAR different.
  2. It already does: https://www.si.com/nfl/steelers/news/nfl-changes-rooney-rule
  3. Because maybe you don't know who the best candidates are if you have a bias to only considering white people. The Rooney Rule increases opportunity. That opportunity extends not only to the coaches being interviewed, but also to people who aspire to be in that position someday. The story of guys like Jerod mayo and Byron Leftwich being handed the reigns to premier roles and young ages speaks to that. When people can see that opportunities exist, it can make them be inspired to go after the same thing. In happens in every indsutry, not just football with people from all sorts of backgrounds.
  4. Maybe that's why Ben had a beef with Todd Haley?
  5. See, that's a gross oversimplification and as a result it takes what would seem to be a common-sense affirmative and turns it into a wrong answer. To understand why, you can't just start at the NFL, you have to go back much further than that. The people who make it to the NFL in player or coaching capacities are a sample of people that made it to previous stages on their journeys. To understand how someone makes it to the next step in their journey you need to understand how they made it to their previous one and what their motivations are. The deeper answer to that question is a much larger conversation on race in America that includes education, culture, economics and more. The NFL is a meritocracy like skiing is a meritocracy. No one will tell the best skier in the country that they can't compete because they're black, but based strictly on opportunity, they're not currently in a position to become a representative part of the population.
  6. Considering that he was the 3rd Latino head coach in history, it certainly didn't hurt him. Robert Saleh is also the 3rd Arab head coach and 1rst Muslim.
  7. Every interview is a chance to get a job, and even if you don't get a particular job it helps you next time.
  8. Who said anything about african amercians? What's the population of white people and people of color?
  9. Robert Saleh & Ron Rivera? You missed a huge detail about the Rooney rule that makes the percentage of people it affects at about 4x your claim.
  10. Again, no. Like, not at all. What you're saying is the opposite of true and the reason that things like The Rooney Rule exist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Apke
  11. Again, this is just a complete lack of the basic fundamentals of race dynamics. I would help illuminate the nuance, but based on your responses, I'm guessing that's not really what you're looking for. You seem to have quite a bit of resentment about minority coaches getting the bare minimum consideration, and you have some very, VERY outdated beliefs on race.
  12. No. That's not how racism works.
  13. They are. What's your next point? Oof, wrong direction. Please return to 1800.
  14. Because players don't lose opportunities because they are white. You seem to be missing some fundamental understanding of racial dynamics and how they play out in the workplace and society at large.
  15. I don't have a person in mind because truthfully I don't know what makes an offensive coordinator a good hire vs a bad one at a competency level. I would however prefer someone with playcalling experience who is known for a dynamic offensive philosophy and who caters more to the strengths of the players than a person who slams down a book and says "this is the offense I run". I don't want us to have to train someone on the job. We're ready to win now, so let's roll.
  16. So white people make up 88% of the population? Interesting. Black people make up 12% of the population, but the rooney rule applies to persons of color, who make up 37% of the population. So yes, I would agree with the OP because of math. The math is even more galling when you consider the nuance of the racial disparity in a league where 75% of players are minorities and 75% of head coaches are white.
  17. This guy is looking for work and probably fits The Process
  18. That's what i said, but anyway, I agree 100%
  19. I should have noted that I say this as someone who doesn't believe in "diversity hires". The best candidate should get the job - that can include reasons related to the nature of their "diverse" status. maybe they have unique perspective or have faced adversity others haven't. A minority shouldn't just get jobs because they're minorities though. That's not at all what the Rooney Rule is and it's not at all what happens as a result of it.
  20. Did they take the Chiefs for granted? I think that's kind of a given. They're a better football team in pretty much every way.
  21. I requires an interview. In other words it requires you to spend a couple hours of your time considering an option that's underrepresented. But please, tell us more about what a travesty it is.
  22. This is just plainly wrong. Mahomes was sacked 4 times for 40 yards - at crucial times compared to 2 for 8 against us (one was a -.5 yard scramble). The Bengals got consistent pass rush and their corners dealt with the receivers much better. We gave Mahomes a 33/44-378-3-0 line with a 123 rating compared to 26/39-275-3-2 with a 91 rating against the Bengals. Big time sacks, shutting down the big plays, and getting sacks was the difference in the ballgame. The Bengals in no way outgunned our offense Our #1 defense was a bloated metric due to beating up trash opponents with one of the three easiest schedule sin the league. They fell flat against big time competition.
  23. literally, yes. Did you even watch our game or the Bengals game? Defense is undeniably what cost us and won the Bengals that game, despite Burrow's gaudy box score.
  24. Looks like Cinci did it with great secondary play and pass rush rush. That works too.
  25. I would bet that saquon doesn't get traded at all and he's going to be the centerpiece of the offense. If he does, he won't go for any less than a 2nd a 3rd and a starting calibre player. When healthy he is a top back.
