  1. Good stuff! O'Leary is coming along nicely. He isn't very big or fast, but just looks the part. And I love that he doesn't wear gloves. Thomas is 3rd on the chart, but If he can improve his blocking, could be used a bit more without tipping the offense's hand. I know people wanted to see more from him, but the transition from QB to TE is not easy.
  2. IMO, LB is not the position to spend big bucks on in FA, and the Bills have other priorities. Shoring up the defensive line trumps the second level, and who knows what they're spending on Star.
  3. No rush. Perhaps the Bills have their sights set on other FA options??? I like what he brings, but he isn't a game breaker, nor a bank breaker. If some team wants to pay more than market value, let them.
  4. Cause the Bulldog's Twitter feed is the end all, be all when it comes to Bills moves.... Or its just a bunch of random hacks/nobodies simply speculating like the rest of the world
  5. Have to get the franchise QB first, but if Beane gets this thing right, he'll be the "Don" alright
  6. As expected. No point in making these moves without following through on the main plan.
  7. The same can be said for the Bills, though. I'm sure it's far from the top of the list of factors, but I guarantee you the Giants would rather see the Bills with that QB than the team that shares their stadium, while picking up an additional pick (including 2 firsts) in the process. The Gettleman connection is very real, though, and may actually be the key to it all.
  8. I compare the Allen situation to Gabbert when he came out. Not comparing talent at all, just how they shot up the draft board after the combine, and due to the nature of the position they play. Now Allen has more talent than Gabbert did, but personally, I wasn't all that impressed by him. Too inconsistent for me. I get that he wasn't surrounded by great talent at Wyoming (to Klaista's point), but he didn't exactly face top talent every week either. They were largely ineffective against Iowa and Oregon, which was expected, but they faced several cream puffs and didn't exactly blow them away either. I would side with you Captain on this one, but who knows? Maybe Allen turns out to be the best QB in this draft, or at least a franchise QB, but I just don't see it. Beat me to it
  9. But for the Bills to move up to 2, they'll have to throw in more than 3 picks. Perhaps the Giants would be willing to move further down in the first in exchange for more total picks than what the Jets would have to offer (in that scenario). Besides, do the Giants really want the Jets to have a franchise QB, making them the big dogs in the Meadowlands?
  10. I'm ok with this. Bills need a bridge or did backup for whatever QB they take in the draft (provided they do), and Bradford is a capable starter in the event that the Bills aren't able to draft a good/decent QB prospect. His arm is certainly good enough to play in Buffalo. Availability is obviously the only real concern with him. Could a Glennon in Chicago type signing.
  11. Yeah, I wouldn't put much stock into the numbers argument here. Star has a role, and be does it well, which allows players around him to benefit. The Panthers have been one of the least run-on defenses since he was drafted, and they faced far more runs in his rookie year than any year since, percentage wise, which has a direct correlation to his numbers. Run stops will be down by default. Offenses have adjusted how they play that defense, and clearly they think it's more wise to throw the ball against them. Star's presence alone is a big reason why. Stats are a good way to judge, but there's always variables that play a role. And in football, that is especially true. That's why I always say, "numbers never lie, but they don't always tell the whole truth". You (not you, but Rob Quinn) cannot sit here and tell me that having Star on your team wouldn't be a good thing. And using the phrase "epic mistake" is just an attention grabber to generate clicks.
  12. You'd be surprised. I wasn't necessarily disagreeing with the point you made, but there's certainly other factors involved in the ratings drops. In the NFL, the anthem protest had an effect. The election had an effect. More and more people watching via overseas streams had an effect. As for NASCAR and Dale Jr fans, his retirement definitely had an effect. To what extent, I'm not sure. I was at the Daytona 500 last year (I'm usually at the track at least once a year), and as soon as Dale wrecked and was out of the race, a mass exodus ensued, and well more than half of the stands emptied. That says something, and I would say relates to the ratings last Sunday.
  13. Dale Jr. isn't racing anymore. That's a major chunk of "bandwagon" type NASCAR fans that aren't watching anymore. It's like golf without Tiger. Or what the ratings drop will look like in New England markets when Tom and Bill are gone.
  14. That, and it will be in his prime years. I don't understand why people wouldn't want the Bills to spend for a proven QB. Having one of those gives your team a real chance to compete for a championship, year in, year out. Same thing with the potential for the Bills to give up a huge ransom to move up in the draft for a QB (even though the player is not proven). Personally, I'd prefer to bring in Cousins and save those picks. It would be a more reasonable, and much quicker path to success than starting a rookie, and building the roster with less draft picks. This team isn't that far off, and those extra picks will not only fill holes, but do so on rookie contracts, so spending for a QB is very manageable right now. You get what you pay for, and I couldn't care less if the Bills give him $30 mil per year. It's not my money, and the cap will go up. But it is my time and money spent on being a fan, and I'm tired of floating around .500 .
  15. That shouldn't scare you away from securing a legitimate franchise QB. Having one of those pretty much guarantees a competetive team year in, year out. I know there's examples of QBs cashing in and then the team around them begins lacking (Flacco, for example), but paying him all that money wasn't the main issue (big factor, though). It was the fact that the Ravens haven't drafted nearly as well since then, as they had in the past. Get as many players on rookie contracts as you can, and hope they over perform. It's a roster building strategy, and it doesn't always work out, but it's probably a better strategy than spending more money elsewhere, while hoping a franchise QB falls in your lap. If the Bills want good QB play, they're going to have to pay for it, eventually, unless they get lucky in the draft (how's that worked out?).
  16. Yeah, those are the type of wins that send a message. That's why I don't mind the Bills playing at night.
  17. They did win on Thursday night a few seasons ago. But yeah, the Bills most recent Sunday and Monday night games were either nail-biting, close losses (a couple "should have been wins"), or complete blowouts. They were, however, games played under seemingly far less quality of coaches than McDermott and with marginal talent. Still, the Bills history in those games will have absolutely no bearing on the outcomes of future night games.
  18. What a great read! Very well constructed, and full of humbling, personal sentiments. Takes a lot of character for someone to put all of that out there. We as fans only "see" a small portion of the lives of players, and in general, our "care" is limited to whether or not a player is available to go. We don't think about the player that lays in the dark, or cries in front of the higher ups. But we're quick to call a guy "glass" if he has injury issues. Sure, they're paid handsomely (some more than others) to play a game for our amusement, but how quickly we forget that these are people. People with feelings. People with families. I get that it takes thicker skin to be a public figure, but some fans get way too serious with it. They're like kids on a playground...cruel. Some even go as far as death threats, over a game! Maybe Aaron felt the need to apologise to Bills fans for not being all in at the beginning, but we (all fans, not just Bills fans) aren't so innocent either.
  19. I always thought that some poor Sapp in Vegas was boned by that finish (several, really), but I never considered someone getting boned on a 10 game parlay like that. Talk about falling off a cliff...
  20. I'd give you a cookie, but I only bring them to tailgates...
  21. The point is, these types of articles are considered to be "click bait" because they purposely capitalize on the timing of their release. The thesis is only relevant (somewhat) right now, therefore the only way to generate revenue from this specific information is to put it out now, even though there is nothing really substantial included. By the time this "Mother of all QB off-seasons" idea is actually an important talking point amongst the majority of fans (soon after the SB), some of those QBs will no longer qualify for this list, rendering the original thesis less relevant. It's still projected to be one of the more interesting off-seasons for QBs in some time, but this well-timed publishing is taking advantage of the timing factor, which allows for (what will most likely end up being) saturated and exaggerated information. It's the way of the "journalist" these days... Sure, the disclaimer was included at the beginning of the article, but that only enhances the irrelevance of the article. No need to defend the author (unless it was you). I don't get the Cousins hate. He set franchise records in multiple seasons, with average talent (compared to other teams). This year, he was playing with a rag-tag roster, and had up and down games (expected). Aside from a big contract, what is it about him that is turning Bills fans away? Unless the Bills strike gold in the draft, and are able to get good QB play with a rookie contract, they'll need to spend for good play.
  22. Good point. You would think that versatile guys like him would have a better chance to stick around. Those are the type of signings that I expect between now and FA. He may not be the best option at RB if the top two go down, but that run late in the Bucs game shows that he's at least capable.
  23. I wouldn't mind keeping Tawain as a 3rd RB/KR/PR. He's shifty and has good vision. Probably won't cost much after coming off of injury.
  24. Well that was swift. Who gets the job?
