This new helmet rule will destroy the NFL.
Drunken Pygmy Goat replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't watch football because of and for its violence. It may be a physical sport, but waiting for someone to get blown up is not why I watch. There's so much more to football than just the physical, violent aspect. Its a chess match. Its a metaphor for life. Its supreme atheletes. Its beating the man in front of you. Etc. I'm sure there are plenty that watch just for the violence, but thats not me. And I suspect I'm not alone. Just like NASCAR, many watch it just for the wrecks, but there are plenty that watch it for much more than that. When I "want" violence, I watch UFC, boxing, etc. I like a good hockey fight, but there arw many other aspects of hockey that i enjoy more. If anything, doing nothing to help preserve the brains and lives of the players will kill football before a helmet rule will. More and more, kids are staying away from football, and eventually, the talent pool will dry up. Theres already a LOT more money in playing basketball or baseball professionally, and if you add the risk of severe brain damage or paralysis, why would you choose football? -
McDermott doesn’t learn
Drunken Pygmy Goat replied to WIDE LEFT's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not that I need it, but threads like this always make me feel much better about myself. Its preseason. The whole point of it is to assess, not so much to strategize or win (although there's a little of that). In this instance, its about giving players more action, and film, for assessment. Guys are playing for jobs, and they need as many opportunities to show out as they can get. Punting there gives the ST another look, as well as the players on defense afterwards. ***On the 4th down when the Bills decided to go for it, the call was late getting in, forcing the Bills to burn a TO. IMO, it was the result of Daboll trying to take advantage of matchups, but since the Panthers subbed late, it changed Daboll's approach and play call. It was a costly mistake, but a mistake to learn from. These are the games that you want those mistakes to happen (if they're going to happen) so that you learn from them without costing the team wins in the hunt for the playoffs. I could understand pointing that out or mildly calling that out as a fan, while still keeping in mind that its the preseason, but calling out a coach and basically calling him an idiot by doing what every coach would do in that situation is ridiculous. -

NFL on CBS broadcasting crews
Drunken Pygmy Goat replied to DBilz2500's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Boycotting Google now? Not going to lie, I was annoyed by his voice at first, and his name. I mean, it sounds like someone asking for a spare pair of Adidas...but I've gotten past that. I've actually come to appreciate his enthusiastic calls in the moment, and given the fact that he has called so many Bills games, he knows the team better than any of the others. Not sure what mistakes you're talking about. -
I assume you've been using PIA for a while and are familiar with it. What about it makes it better than others? I'll be signing up for a VPN soon, so general tips you might have about PIA and other VPN providers would be great...thanks!

Game Pass is Chromecast compatible. I did this 2 years ago and the picture quality was great. Only issue was the sound was very slightly distorted at louder levels compared to an over the air broadcast. Not sure if that's been fixed, but well worth the money. Also, it may be different now, but the price was different based on the country, so you should look into that as well. I believe I signed up "from" the Netherlands Student package would actually be best. IIRC it's only $100. Pretty sure all you'll need is her .edu email address.

Thanks! I've been watching some old games recently in my down time. I always remembered Thurman as a quick, elusive player, but he was a lot tougher than I remember. He took a beating, and many times the hits looked pretty bad, yet he would either be right back in the huddle, or miss a play or two and be back.

I'm not sure what comments you're referring to, but I assume those sentiments are becoming more and more scarce, even from the loud minority. As new owners, I think we all can agree that they made a couple mistakes. That happens sometimes while learning on the job, especially when you consider the state of the franchise that they inherited. But now, they're much more established and immersed in several league aspects and circles. They've learned a lot since 2014, and have made moves over the last year plus to cut the fat. Maybe "clueless" wasn't the best choice of words (if that's what was/is being said), but there was a lot to learn and it wasn't going to be an overnight turnaround. The progress they've made in just a few years is pretty remarkable.

I haven't been there in almost 20 years, but IIRC, Kim Pegula made some comments within the last year or two regarding some upgrades or tweaks to the arena. I think one of them had to do with the lighting or pre-game "light show" at the facility being sub-par. Speaking of Kim, I can't help but think that things like upgrading the weight room have her fingerprints on them. After reading several articles about her and Terry since purchasing the Bills, I've gathered that she's not only very much involved with the off-field aspects of the team, but is an incredible progressive thinker and pays very close attention to detail, whether it's about fan experience, or player wellness. Things like spending millions on a weight room facility, in general, are an afterthought for most teams throughout the league. But not only that, but the planning and detail involved in this case is great. Adding things sleep pods or grand widows for better lighting to create better morale are fine details that most owners wouldn't think of. Having McBeane assess details as well after being hired just goes to show that the owners' mentality and approach trickles down from the top down, all the way to the players and the entire staff. Its not just about making people's jobs easier and more enjoyable, but doing so in a progressive manner that has lasting benefits in several ways. Every move seems extremely calculated, and in a league where owners want to maximize profits, money isn't an issue with the Pegulas. Time will tell what the end result will be in all of this, but it's very refreshing to see and know that we have owners that are willing to do whatever they can to produce a winning team and a proud, esteemed franchise come to fruition. Buffalo isn't exactly a place that players place at the top of the list of places they want to play, based on the weather, economy, social life, etc., and even though the Pegulas may have spent a lot of money on the town itself, the one thing they truly can control and improve is the quality of their franchise. Players around the league notice these things, even before being courted by the team. More and more, as time passes, "One Buffalo", WRT the Pegulas and the Bills (and Sabres) is becoming more and more of a real motto, and not just some catchy phrase that's thrown around for positive attention. Everything is done with a vision, and everyone is in the same page.

WR Cam Phillips #5 - UDFA Virginia Tech
Drunken Pygmy Goat replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't forget about Holmes. I wouldn't call him a lock, as the staff may look to add more youth, but he's an experienced, solid vet. With the rules changes this year, the Bills may keep more WRs that can play on ST. That could help guys like Phillips, Foster, McCloud etc. to stick with the main roster or PS. -

"Ruining" a QB by starting him too soon
Drunken Pygmy Goat replied to Buffalo86's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unless Allen looks very good in pre-season as first team QB, the Bills will likely do the same thing the Bears did last year with Trubisky. Let the veteran start the season, and (unless the Bills are .500 or better) start the rookie after at least 4 games.
