i was/am a big supporter of Whaley. that being said...
i don't know if you can call having EJ Manuel, Thad Lewis, Jeff Tuel, Kyle Orton, Matt Cassel, Kevin Kolb as having a QB competition. it was probably more a case of, winner by omission.
hey Irv.
i've mentioned this elsewhere. Beane is a pretty smart cookie. he doesn't intend to give away precious draft capital that he doesn't have to. with picks 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 possibly being up for grabs, it has esseentially become a buyers market. in a buyers market the price drops. Beane wants to see how the draft shapes up before making his move. i am quite sure he has deals in place with at least a couple of those teams i mentioned with the top picks. he also probably has a standing offer of being able to beat anyone else with those he doesn't already have deals in place with. i fully expect him to get the best position for as little capital as possible.
enjoy the draft.
i like Rosen alot. i just don't know what a couple more shots to the ol' noggin will do here. it would be a Billsy thing to draft the kid, he displays a great future and then, bam! doctors advise him to retire for the sake of his health.
the only other three team trade i can remember was the one that brought us Cornelius Bennett and sent Eric Dickerson to the Colts for a crap load of picks to the Rams. it wasn't a draft day trade though.
