The Mizzou/Yale/PC/Free Speech Topic
Buffalo_Gal replied to FireChan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
This is sad for the girls and the boys. For the most part, males are stronger and faster than females. Simply "identifying" as female should not allow you to play in a competitive female sport if you were born a male. The females will never win, and what does that say about the "identifier"? "Hey, I can't win in a male league, so I am gonna "identify" female and kick some girl's ass?" While I am sure there are some transgender males out there who truly feel trapped in their bodies, have the surgery, take the hormones, become female and then you can participate. Buy to merely "identify"? Nope. -

How many emails are in your Inbox?
Buffalo_Gal replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I have six email addies I use regularly. The one I use most often has 54 unread emails, but over 20K in folders... because "someday" I am gonna read through those. I don't even want to look at the other five email I use regularly. I delete spam and junk several times per day, too. These are just "useful" email. My husband has every email he ever sent or received (we are going back to the mid-90s). It really comes in handy for past work contacts, to resolve arguments er, discussions about travel, home renovations, etc. It sounds crazy to have so many, but over the years it has really been helpful. -
I have a nice Range Rover. When we first got it, the GPS had us drive through a less than gentrified part of town to reach our destination. I was not pleased to be routed that way, but no one looked at our vehicle, let alone looked at it with intent to do harm. After relating the incident to my niece (who used to work in the DA's office), she told me it was because it is the "preferred vehicle of drug dealers". No one was gonna mess with that vehicle or the person driving it (apparently the "woman of a certain age" driving it could be the dealer, or more likely the mother of a dealer). Who knew!? It isn't like using that as a promotional tool at Land Rover: Buy a Range Rover, the Preferred Choice of Your Local Drug Dealer! will incentivize people to buy one. Anyhoooo I wanna know where you can get a RR for $40K. That would be some deal.

Trump foreign policy
Buffalo_Gal replied to Benjamin Franklin's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Trump is not going to be primaried. The RNC has made it next to impossible for someone to do so meaningfully. Now, if you mean that President Trump would like the Rs to take back the House next cycle (the Senate does not break well for the Ds in 2020, so it will likely remain in R hands), that I can agree with. -

I'm not sure how you figure NK has more to lose than the US. In any event, NK will do what China tells them to. I do not think it is a coincidence that this summit is coming after the trade negotiations between the US and China, and the March 1 deadline on tariffs being pushed back. -

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Fallen
Buffalo_Gal replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Bad news for the Ruthie worshipers. OTOH, this does lend some credence to the tin foil hat crowd who suspect the left will do everything possible to keep her body alive, even if her mind is incapacitated in the future: Supreme Court: Dead judges can't issue rulings </snip> “Federal judges are appointed for life, not for eternity,” the court ruled in an unsigned opinion. </snip> -
Federal Judge rules male only draft unconstitutional
Buffalo_Gal replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
from the article: The ruling comes as an 11-member commission is studying the future of the Selective Service System, including whether women should be included or whether there should continue to be draft registration at all. The U.S. has maintained an all-volunteer military after the draft was discontinued in 1973, but the Selective Service System was reactivated in 1980 as a contingency in case military conscription becomes necessary again. -

Where in the world does Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez live? </snip> She has no district office and no local phone number, unlike the state’s three other freshman members. And it’s unclear whether the 29-year-old lawmaker, who represents the Bronx and Queens, actually still lives in the Parkchester neighborhood that has been so closely tied to her rise — even though she won her upset victory over fellow Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley with accusations that his home in Virginia made him too Washington-focused to serve his district. </snip> The Post e-mailed the Ocasio-Cortez’ spokesman, Corbin Trent, four times with specific questions — they were all ignored. On Saturday, The Post reached Corbin by phone. “We will not be commenting,” he said. Among the queries he refused to answer: Where does the congresswoman live? </snip> “Come downstairs, I have to take a picture quick,” the congresswoman then told the reporter after the event, instructing him to wait for her. Twenty minutes later, she ducked out a back door, jumped into a chauffeured SUV, and zoomed off. </snip> And in 2017, when Ocasio-Cortez first filed paperwork to become a congressional candidate, she didn’t even know what district she lived in, mistakenly declaring plans to run for neighboring District 15 before correcting the error days later. </snip> -

Winds picked up here and now I am waiting for tree limbs to start to fall. The positive is the snow pile will be gone by the end of the day... and I am hoping the wind clears up the puddles on the lawn. I made Hubby put his truck in the garage yesterday - watch, a tree limb will crash through the garage roof taking it out.

Moving to Salt Lake City in May
Buffalo_Gal replied to ColdFront_USAF's topic in Off the Wall Archives
1) Find the local state-run liquor store and note it on your GPS. 2) Park City is where the heathens live. (That is an exact quote from someone in my husband's company when we were looking for a place to live in the area.) 3) The Utah Jazz are a HUGE draw. Stay away from the area when they have a home game. 4) Lots and lots and lots of "nature" stuff to do. The Great Salt Lake stinks to high heavens in the summer (and doesn't smell too good in spring or fall either). You can learn to dive in it (it is totally dark). As mentioned, the national parks are beautiful (even to a slug like me). And the Utah license plate says "greatest snow on earth" - skiing, snowboarding, etc are fantastic. 5) The people in Utah are generally very nice. However, Salt Lake City is definitely not a great party town. The outlying areas, even less so. -
'Absolutely' prepared to sue Trump administration if Mueller report not released: House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said that his committee would subpoena special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report and even call him to testify before the committee if the report was not made public, and that he was “absolutely” prepared to sue the Trump administration, if necessary. “We will obviously subpoena the report. We will bring Bob Mueller in to testify before Congress. We will take it to court if necessary,” Schiff, D-Calif. said Sunday. </snip> Amid speculation that special counsel Robert Mueller would be delivering his report to Barr as early as this week, a Justice Department official with knowledge of the matter told ABC News Friday that the report is not imminent. </snip>

Whether or not this really turns out to be a sex trafficking case (and if even half of this article is true, it will be) it is being reported as one. This is the NYT, so it raises awareness on the subject. The article is pretty gruesome. ‘The Monsters Are the Men’: Inside a Thriving Sex Trafficking Trade in Florida </snip> The inspector’s suspicions prompted a sprawling investigation across four Florida counties and two states — Florida and New York — over nearly eight months, resulting in the disruption of what authorities say was a multimillion-dollar human-trafficking and prostitution operation. The sweep led to criminal charges last week against several rich, prominent men, including Robert K. Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots; John Havens, former president and chief operating officer of Citigroup; and John Childs, founder of the private equity firm J.W. Childs Associates. </snip> Yet making a trafficking case remains difficult, in part because the women who were victims may not want to cooperate with police. Only one has been talking to deputies, Sheriff Snyder said. He had lined up about a dozen Mandarin interpreters, but many other women refused to speak and were let go with an offer of assistance. “I would never consider them prostitutes — it was really a rescue operation,” the sheriff said, training his anger at the men whose demand for sex kept the massage parlors in business. “The monsters are the men,” he added. </snip>

We shall see... Here's What To Expect Next In The Robert Kraft Case </snip> Deadspin asked Edmondson about a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter saying he’d been “told that Robert Kraft is not the biggest name involved down there in South Florida.” Edmondson responded: “Nobody around here has any idea what [Schefter] is referring to.” </snip>

Switzerland Is A Nation Of Cowards

So your assertation is that the Swiss Guard hierarchy was "cowardly" for imposing any type of reprimand? Was there a minimum penalty that could be imposed as punishment? And was this it? (I donno, I am seriously asking.) -

From that article: "Also busted in the lengthy massage parlor probe in three Florida counties was Kenneth Wessel, the 75-year-old president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County and the John’s Island Foundation, Treasure Coast Newspapers reported Friday." "The three former law enforcement officers who are facing charges in the sex probe were Scott Taylor, 70, a former deputy with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, Charles Thompson, 67, a former Vero Beach cop and Vito Gioia, 54, a former Sebastian cop, WPEC reported."

When Does Taxation Become Oppression?
Buffalo_Gal replied to The_Dude's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Apparently, you missed the "lies, damn lies, and statistics" quote. In any event... do you know how much the top 1% (households) makes in the United States? (approximately) $421K in revenue. Top 5% is (approximately) $166K. Top 20% is (approximately) $100K. These are households (usually two income earners). My guess is you are actually miffed at the top 1% of the 1%-ers (a totally different stratosphere) for being able to earn so much. Instead of wealth re-distribution, how about more education, training, incentives to open businesses (which can be a great way to build wealth - provided you know what you are doing, have a great idea, and fulfill a need). It would require a complete rethinking in some circles that "smart" is cool (rather than "I'm gonna get that sports contract!"). It would also require current funds to be better utilized. I do know that I have zero interest in paying more in taxes. As a matter of fact, I try not to earn too much more in earned income as I have to hit the SS maximum to make it worth my while from a tax standpoint (I am technically retired, and our tax rate is different for earned income versus capital gains). If I feel that way, I imagine many others feel the same? Unless the government becomes smaller and leaner or allows me to pick and choose where I want my tax dollars to go (hahahaha to all of that!), I have no desire to subsidize another "government program" that feeds an "entitlement" mentality. -
When Does Taxation Become Oppression?
Buffalo_Gal replied to The_Dude's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Stats - and while there are lies, damn lies, and statistics - these stats are showing a trend that the top 1% is paying a greater percentage of all federal taxes today than in the past. I was listening to the radio in my vehicle yesterday, and someone was opining that the top brass in the IRS admitted that needed to be changed - the federal government cannot rely on such a small sliver of people to pay such a disproportionate amount of collected taxes. Switzerland Is A Nation Of Cowards
Buffalo_Gal replied to The_Dude's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And I do not see how that is cowardly either. This man broke a rule. He fought to help people live when being attacked. It is what he is trained to do. He did not fight against Switzerland, he simply tried to save lives (it could be argued that he put Swiss neutrality in jeopardy, but it doesn't seem that his superiors felt that was the case). It appears his superiors felt he needed a "reprimand" but clearly didn't feel what he did was deserving of a stern a stern reprimand.
