Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread
Buffalo_Gal replied to snafu's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No money, no chance... why is she running? Elizabeth Warren polling in 3rd place … in Massachusetts Just 3 points ahead of a surging Mayor Pete, and far behind Bernie and Biden, in her home state. </snip> And what is worse!? The Massachusetts Emerson Poll has Joey-B at 23% - the poll was taken April 4-7. -
That was a barn burner! Everyone involved in this thread in any way should watch it. So, my Cliff notes and questions: "Couldn't send these over without an AG in place" So Sleepy Sessions wouldn't do anything? Or, they needed Mueller to be finished and a new AG in place? (A bit confusing to me) 5 straight up referrals (lying, leaking, misleading Congress for the sole purpose of investigating the Congressional investigation) 3 complicated ones - conspiracy (which could be up to 2 dozen people): 1 - FISA abuse and other matters 1 - manipulation of intelligence 1 - global leak referral (a dozen highly sensitive information given to only a few (2-3) reporters - he mentions later that there could be several people) They do not know if the DOJ has more referrals. The "travesty of General Flynn". Explains what criminal referral means. All that Congress does is investigate, they do not have the power to arrest or convict. (Isn't there a jail cell in the basement of Congress though?) They have to take these referrals to the Department of Justice to take this up. "It gets more complicated because you have the top officials in the Department of Justice and the FBI that are likely involved in the referrals that we are going to make." He does mention Strzok and Page later in the interview. He also mentioned whistleblowers were involved in this investigation. Many of the people on the Mueller team were part of the conspiracy. "You have the deputy on the team and another top lawyer both involved in the chain of custody of the Steele dossier." (Is the "deputy" Andrew Weissmann?) He said it is "impossible" that those two attorneys did not know that the Steele dossier was dirt coming from the Democrats.

What do you have against a man earning a living? I'm sorta surprised at how quiet he's been. The Netflix kickback helped, I am sure, but the high life he and Michelle enjoyed on the taxpayer's dime ain't cheap. He's gotta do some high-paying speechifying to keep up the lifestyle they have become accustomed to. -

Another week, another yellow vest protest... (live feed) 20+ arrested, leader fined: Yellow Vest protests open ‘Act 21’ in France Some 21 protesters were arrested in Paris on Saturday morning, local media reported, citing police. Eric Drouet, one of the leaders of the Yellow Vests, was fined 135 euro ($150) for violating public protest laws. The ruling was slammed by his lawyer who said that “if Drouet wants to have a cup of coffee at the Champs-Elysees, he has an absolute right to do so.” </snip> -

From the article (it is worth the read) </snip> The theft occurred after Cosko was fired from Hassan’s office in May 2018 for undisclosed reasons, then hired by Democratic Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, giving him access to the House computer network. He repeatedly sneaked into her office late at night and gathered dozens of gigabytes of data including: • dozens of usernames and passwords belonging to Senate employees • tens of thousands of emails and internal documents • credit card information belonging to Senate employees • social security numbers belonging to Senate employees • personally identifying information belonging to hundreds of other persons (presumably constituents) • private phone numbers and home addresses of senators In October 2018, he used information stolen from Hassan’s office to doxx Republican Utah Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee as well as Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham. Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul later called for punishing the then-unknown offender. Cosko then doxxed Paul and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “The defendant published that information maliciously, with the intent to intimidate the Senators,” the plea agreement says. </snip> Cosko pleaded guilty to five felonies including witness intimidation and obstruction of justice. The maximum sentence was 55 years in prison, but guidelines call for three to four years. He agreed not to seek a term shorter than two years as part of the plea agreement. He could also face a fine of up to $200,000 and possible restitution to Hassan’s office. </snip> The suspect’s father, Greg Cosko, is the CEO of Hathaway Dinwiddie, a construction company that built a university building named after Feinstein’s husband. He serves on the board of San Francisco State University alongside Willie Brown, the California politician who said he helped make the career of Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris, with an illicit affair. </snip>

More "expected" labor news: Economy added solid 196,000 jobs in March, unemployment stays at 3.8% Hiring rebounded strongly in March as employers added 196,000 jobs, easing fears that payroll growth is slowing sharply amid a cooling economy. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.8%, the Labor Department said Friday. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had estimated 175,000 jobs were added last month. Job gains for January and February were revised up by a modest 14,000. </snip>

Court papers show Gillibrand’s father worked for Nxivm sex cult: report Court documents revealed this week confirmed that the father of 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand once worked as a lobbyist for a secretive sex cult, but left after the upstate New York group sued him, according to a report. </snip> -
I'm not sure how I feel about this. What is to prevent this from becoming a revenue stream for cities if they deem reports are false or to collection on any investigation if someone admits to a crime (plea bargains out the window)? Will it deter people from filing any reports? Or only false reports? Chicago Will Sue Jussie Smollett After Saying Actor Refuses to Reimburse City $130,000 for Investigation </snip> Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s law chief sent Smollett a March 28 letter demanding he pay $130,106 — plus 15 cents — within seven days. The City Law Department said in a Thursday statement that Smollett had refused to pay, adding that it was already drafting a lawsuit in response and would file it “in the near future.” </snip>

*cough* Short of Workers, U.S. Builders and Farmers Crave More Immigrants As a tight labor market raises costs, employers say the need for low-wage help can’t be met by the declining ranks of the native-born. </snip> Nationwide, the average wage of nonsupervisory workers in residential construction hit $25.34 an hour in January. That’s over 6 percent more than a year earlier, close to the steepest annual increase since the government started keeping track almost 30 years ago. Pay is taking off even among those in less-skilled construction trades. The gains are part of a broader trend. The tightest labor market in more than half a century is finally lifting the wages of the least-skilled workers on the bottom rung of the labor force, bucking years of stagnation. </snip>
