They would've saved 1.5 million releasing him so they like him enough to keep him on the roster. The question is whether he'll be just a return guy or used more in the offense now that he should have a firm grasp on the playbook. It's interesting that both depth charts in this thread have Settle as the 2nd DT. I see him as the odd man out with Oliver, Jones, Ford, and Phillips as the starting four.

2023 Buffalo Bills from a Patriots fan perspective
Doc Brown replied to Fixxxer's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was just a joke. I know in terms of DVOA we lucked into the playoffs that year as our expected win total was between 6 and 7 depending on what metric you used. We also had a negative point differential if memory serves me correctly. Let me ask you this question because you seem to be rightfully more skeptical of McD than the average Bills fan. Would you have fired McDermott after last season if you could've replaced him with Sean Payton? -

True and I have no idea because the offense would be constructed differently. McDermott did make the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor though which is about the equivalent of qualifying for the Daytona 500 with a Prius. -

I agree and I’m glad McDermott is removing the “Frazier” excuse from getting outcoached when against elite offenses in the playoffs. It was a necessary move. That style of defense is great against average qb’s but the elite one’s will pick it apart in today’s NFL. The defensive offseason moves they made tell me they’ve become well aware of that. I pointed out Marvin Lewis because he couldn’t win even a Wild Card game where they were favored multiple times and even he was given a decade or something like that until he was axed after going 0-7 in the playoffs. McDermott at least isn’t a complete choker in the playoffs like he was. There’s something to be said for consistently putting up double digit wins, winning your division, and punching your lottery ticket each year. I just wouldn’t throw that away too quickly. I do have faith he’ll figure it out pretty soon here. -

I give him more of a leash because he has won four playoff games in the last three seasons (aka when Josh Allen became Josh Allen). He’s not like Marvin Lewis where he is 0-7 in the playoffs or something like that. He has to be embarrassed about the Bengals game though. We were so outcoached when on defense that we made Joe Burrow look like he could walk on water. Just no imagination on defense. It’s why Frazier was fired and I expect a much more creative defense against the elite qb’s with McDermott calling the plays. If not, then I’d consider a change if I was Pegula. -
Miami Super Fan TUANON Passes Away at Young Age RIP
Doc Brown replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall
In this case it was a gofundmepage and the donations exploded after Tua donated 10 grand. Rich people donating to charity has always been damned if you do, damned if you don't because there's people like you who will always criticize said person no matter what. -

I was joking. He has an average arm for a starter. He's not a good deep ball thrower though. -

He didn't have to donate anything and 10k should be more than enough to cover funeral costs. Props to Tua. He still has a noodle arm though. -
Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
Doc Brown replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Hopkins helps them beat the Dolphins and the Jets it could be a blessing in disguise. I wouldn't say once in a while but Burrow is more accurate, throws with better touch, and processes information quicker than Allen. Allen has a stronger arm, is obviously a better scrambler, and is the best in the league at making off script plays imo. -
I would. I think Oliver has been the better player to this point in both of their careers. McGlinchey is an average starting tackle, a better run blocker than pass blocker, and got overpaid. There weren't a lot of good RT options available this offseason. Juwaan Taylor would've been my preferred target but not at 20 million a year like he got in KC.

I just think he's sick of coming up short every year and the honeymoon period with Josh is over until they win a Super Bowl. Even if he doesn't and leaves within the next couple of years he'll always be admired for my favorite TD celebration of all time....

I agree but some of its on him holding onto the ball too long to extend plays which often work out. It’s a double edged sword.

What’s up with Gambling int he NFL amongst NFL Players?
Doc Brown replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's pry the most logical conclusion of where this is heading. I don't know about banishment but a one year suspension. If you lose a lot in betting say a hockey game there has to be a temptation to maybe bet a football game you're playing in to get out of the hole you dug yourself into. -
I think all the positions are filled at this point. If you're talking about next year he should have no problem getting a defensive coordinator job if he wants it.

Bills offense last three years: 2020 - 2nd in points, 2nd in yards 2021 - 3rd in points, 5th in yards 2022 - 2nd in points, 2nd in yards Yet he lumps us in with the Steelers, Seahawks, Bears, and Chargers because they have defensive head coaches.

Former first round picks on our defensive line
Doc Brown replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
Plus, you know, the guy we drafted in the first round. Shaq's career and perception among Bills fans is truly unique for an underwhelming Bills first round pick. Shane Ray too. Maybe we can pry Maybin away from his art career. -
I disagree that 5 of the 6 positions I said we improved at was just adding depth. I'd say we're now better at 6 of 7 starting positions I mentioned (TE2, LG, DT, DE, WR3, RB) with the signing of Floyd. I'll grant you that we only added depth at safety. Just simplifying for one on one comparisons with everyone else coming back at these positions.... Kincaid>Morris, McGovern>Saffold, Ford>Settle, Floyd>Basham, Harty>McKenzie, Harris>Singletary I understand your point that we're relying on veterans to regain their previous form and young players to play to their full potential at certain positions. However, what's the alternative? Who would you have drafted instead of Kincaid that would guarantee us a better player at a premier position? Jack Campbell was off the board. Who would you have signed at safety that would be an upgrade over Poyer? There's definitely a case to be made that it would've been smarter to re-sign Edmunds and let Oliver play out his final year of his contract. That's fair and I can see both sides to that argument. The problem I had with your post is the suggestion that Beane is tanking this season on purpose despite no evidence at all to suggest he is. There's nothing he's done this offseason that points to that even if you disagree with his team building approach.

Leave Huey out of this.

They could do that and then draft a WR next year with their top two WR's over 30. Gabe pry isn't getting an extension then and is a goner. My gut based on the way Beane's operated in the past tells me whatever money they save from the Dareus extension this year gets set aside for any in season moves they may want to make.

Thanks. LOL. His instagram posts tells me there was some frustration in him not getting the money he thought he should when they started negotiations.
