The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Doc Brown replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I was thinking more about a second wave if we open up too quickly like what may have happened in Hong Kong, Hokkaido, and Singapore. I'm hopeful the drug remdesivir will continue to show positive results to possibly limit the impact of a 2nd wave in the fall. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Doc Brown replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The beefed up unemployment benefits, the massive government business bailout package, and the economy being on solid footing before the pandemic could lead to a quicker than expected economic recovery. We won't be as strong as before but I'm not buying the doomsday predictions at this point. If there's a second wave then we're in trouble. -
Better Call Saul: Season 5 Trailer - 23 Feb
Doc Brown replied to /dev/null's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I liked Homeland but stopped watching as it became too outlandish in season 6. I think I'll give season 7 and 8 a whirl now since I've heard from a few people it's gotten pretty good again. Everything they set up in the finale leading up to next season suggests they'll meet again as Saul/Kim assume Lalo's assassination went as planned. They just murdered his family so he'll be out for blood. Should be fun. -
Better Call Saul: Season 5 Trailer - 23 Feb

Fantastic season. What's interesting about BCS compared to BB is there's more dark humor in BB when you'd expect the opposite. Obenkirk, Seehorn, and Dalton all deserve award recognition as they were fantastic especially in the last four episodes. I feel like this is the best show on tv that hardly anybody's talking about. Damn Tiger King. -
Mayock and Gruden would've made it to 5.

Article I found interesting that may be an unintended consequence of "unemployment on steroids." Restaurants’ bailout problem: Unemployment pays more Restaurants represent less than 9 percent of Paycheck Protection loan recipients, but as of March accounted for the majority of layoffs nationwide. “If the intention was to get people back to work, they’re not doing it,” said Tom Colicchio, the renowned restaurateur and “Top Chef” judge, who has been an advocate for small restaurants during the pandemic. “They’re not going to come back to work because unemployment is too attractive.” Unemployment benefits vary by state, but in 2019, before the coronavirus crisis, the average weekly benefit nationwide was $370. A $600 sweetener that the stimulus bill added, on a temporary basis, to weekly unemployment checks raises the average weekly benefit to $970, an amount that approximates average weekly pay nationwide and is nearly double average weekly pay within the food industry: about $500 nationwide for full-time workers.

New single day high in deaths although it may be lagged reporting from weekend. I'm hoping this is the plateau. -

With the 110th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft the New York Giants select Anfernee Jennings, Edge, Alabama Three year starter that has a lot of power and tenacity to get to the quarterback. @Might Rather and the Texans are on the clock -
Gronk interested in coming back..to Tampa Update: Traded!

The Pats can only gain from this. -
The only value pick I see there is QB at o/u 4 taken in first round. I'd go the under as I don't see five QB's going. At worst you get a push.

Article: McDermott Concerned about PSE Dysfunction
Doc Brown replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That alone is bad reporting. Tell us how many current employees and how many former full time employees. My cousin's husband works as a video editor for PSE and got furloughed and I talked to him over the weekend. He's had nothing but nice things to say about management. Particularly Kim. There's some very informative information in the article but it's not as balanced as it should be. -
Article: McDermott Concerned about PSE Dysfunction
Doc Brown replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's what I got from the article... -The Pegula's were overly ambitious and PSE expanded too quickly that an economic downturn has created an unfortunate situation where tough choices had to be made. -Graham was looking for disgruntled ex employees and found them. -It's highly unlikely we get a new stadium here unless the majority of the funding comes from the tax payers. -
At 54 the Bills will take? Your guess here!!

Jon Greenard to add young talent to the DE position. Could develop into an effective pass rusher and allow us to release Murphy. -
Interesting mock having Dolphins trading up to #3 for Herbert and Tua slipping all the way to #13 with the Pats trading up to get him. I wouldn't be thrilled with the Pats getting Tua. Jets take OT Becton. 3. Miami (trade with Detroit)—Justin Herbert, quarterback, Oregon It’s funny. Whether Miami makes the trade or not, I think Miami and Detroit will make the same picks. I do think, for the peace of mind and to prevent anyone from leapfrogging them, the Dolphins would be smart to deal the 39th overall pick to Detroit to move up two slots here. Anyway, I don’t know if Herbert’s going to be Miami’s pick. My pick is based on Miami choosing to go conservative here instead of trying to hit a triple in the gap by picking Tua Tagovailoa. Because the Dolphins have done a good job hiding their intentions, I won’t be shocked either way—if they go the risky way with Tua, or if they repeat 2006 and make the safe call with Herbert. Daunte Culpepper, 2006; Herbert, 2020. And they’ll hope it’s a better result this time. My theory is that Tagovailoa would have been the pick had he not dislocated his hip last November. But if it is Herbert, he’ll get to sit behind a pro’s pro, Ryan Fitzpatrick, for a year or most of a year, and be in position to take over in a more normal 2021 season. 13. New England (trade with San Francisco)—Tua Tagovailoa, quarterback, Alabama So Tagovailoa could drop, and Bill Belichick really doesn’t want to take a quarterback now, with one draft pick in the top 85 this year and needs all over his roster. And truly: I have no indication, no inside information, that says he’d do this. It’s simply a guess. But think if you’re Belichick. Because your team never finishes 3-13, you never have a chance to get one of the best quarterbacks in the college game. Until Tagovailoa’s hip popped out of the socket last November, forcing immediate and urgent surgery, he was 1/1A with the transcendent Joe Burrow to be the first pick in this draft. And you don’t want to pillage the lone first or lone second-round pick from next year’s draft. But do you do it for a great but pockmarked talent such as Tagovailoa five months after major hip surgery? I do know Belichick would have confidence in his player-procurement skills. I also don’t know what the New England orthopods will say about him. I do know one respected team doctor for an NFL team who gave Tagovailoa the once-over at the combine, and I asked him what he thought about Tagovailoa’s propensity for injury while at Alabama—a broken hand, two high-ankle sprains, and a hip dislocation most recently. This is what this doctor—whose team is not in the market for a first-round quarterback—told me Thursday: “These contact injuries are part of the game. You ask yourself, ‘Is this guy injury-prone, or does he have a bullseye on him because he’s a crucial player on his team?’ I’ve seen a few of the hip dislocations in football, and my experience is that if you lose blood supply to the hip for a long-enough period of time, you’re in trouble. I don’t think that was the case here. As I see it, the effects of the dislocation might show up when he’s 35, but not when he’s 25.” Cautiously optimistic then. Tough call for a franchise, but when would the Patriots ever get a shot at a potential superstar quarterback? Even if they had to throw in next year’s first-rounder, I think this would be a risk worth taking for the Patriots.

What would you consider a successful draft?
Doc Brown replied to Bleedbuffaloblue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A 5th for Justin Fournette - at the worst we get a comp pick in 2021. Other than that bpa at any position other than QB, RB, LS, K, and P. -
Trade proposal (Jags/Jets, not Bills)

If you're the Jets I'd rather sign Clowney and trade Adams for draft picks. You'd at least get a 1st and a 3rd minimum for Adams. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Doc Brown replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I wasn't aware of this poll and agree with your take. It does show me that the majority still fear the virus enough to except the mitigation rules in place. Those would be better questions and my guess is in your hypothetical is they'd choose the middle option. I've just been following this daily tracking poll and opinion hasn't shifted much when it comes to social distancing measures. The overall tolerance for mitigation is still fairly high right now but you'll pry see more resistance once the number of deaths go significantly down.
