Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread
Doc Brown replied to snafu's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
My prediction is he endorses Biden before South Carolina if he wins Iowa or New Hampshire. That should give Biden the nomination. However, this politico article says One Democrat who is neutral in the 2020 race and spoke to Obama about Biden’s gaffe-prone nature recalled the former president saying: “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f*** things up.” However, If Biden slips up and Bernie gains the momentum it's going to be hilarious seeing all these corporate Dems start to endorse Bloomberg. A guy who ran as a Republican for mayor accepting Giuliani's endorsement. -
Borderline HOFer like Cowher who pry needed that one Superbowl to get in. It might be the same for Reid. He turned around the Eagles and Chiefs. Got the most out of all his QB's (McNabb, Vick, Alex Smith, Mahomes) and was able to tailor his offenses to play to their strengths. Impressive coaching tree. Holmgren deserves to be in btw and was surprised he didn't.

Eli is retiring - news conf Friday
Doc Brown replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Namath is and he shouldn't be in. I don't think Eli should get in. Even in his prime he was never a top 5 quarterback. He made four pro bowls in 15 full seasons as starter. Never an all pro. Led the league in picks three times. Only made the playoffs one time in his last seven seasons and four times in 15. Career .500 record. The interesting part of the debate will be whether his playoff success will trump his average starter stats. Even in the playoffs he had those two magical runs and four one and dones. However, he's the only quarterback to win the Superbowl twice as a WC team. He beat some of the best QB's of his generation at their place (Favre, Rodgers, Romo) and came up clutch in the two Superbowls where he won MVP with the GOAT at QB and coach on the other side. He was 7-0 as an underdog away from home during those two runs. His defense obviously had a lot to do with that but he came up clutch when they needed him most. If there was a Hall of above average he'd definitely get in because of those Superbowl runs, but I don't think two magical runs should trump a career of being a slightly above average starting NFL QB. I think the only reason he gets in is he's a Manning. -

I forgot he was a 1st round pick. Short term prove it deal and that's it. He's a slight upgrade over McKenzie/Foster. -
New Internet Rumor about Bills - getting 3 Primetime games
Doc Brown replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Either one as TNF seems to be more divisional games. I just don't see Miami getting any prime time games unless they make some major offseason moves and draft Tua. Yeah. It was 11th out of the 17 NBC prime time slots up to that point. In all fairness, the Steelers were a pretty darn boring team with Duck Hodges leading the way. -
New Internet Rumor about Bills - getting 3 Primetime games
Doc Brown replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The higher than usual ratings for the Cowboys, Steelers, and Texans game will likely lead to at least two Primetime games. If I had to go with three..... Bills@Jets TNF, KC@Bills SNF, Bills@49ers MNF -
Antonio Brown: Apology Tour - Preparing for return?

Why did they blur the address at the bottom but leave the one next to his name intact? -
You might want to tell Nashville that. Screw Manhattan. The 2019 NFL Draft generated a financial windfall for its host city of Nashville, Tennessee, and shattered previous record revenues for the league’s premiere offseason event, local tourism officials said this week. The three-day event generated a record overall economic impact of $224 million for the city in terms of spending on lodging, local attractions, food, retail and transportation, the NFL and Nashville Convent ion & Visitors Corp. said in a joint release. That total marked a 79 percent increase over last year’s event in Dallas, which produced an estimated economic impact of $125 million. The NFL Draft also drew a record $133 million in direct spending, up 79 percent compared to last year’s total of $74 million. The event produced $10.6 million in tax revenue for Davidson County in Tennessee.

The Impeachment Trial of President Donald J. Trump
Doc Brown replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
In a perfect world. Yes. Dems screwed the pooch by rushing through impeachment and not going through the courts to get these witnesses. The average voter doesn't grasp the concept that it's not the Senate's job to call new witnesses. It's just a dog and pony show now but I'd be concerned with these numbers if I was a GOP Senator. -
I agree but the argument seemed to boil down to a bizarre exercise in comparing Manning and Allen's first two seasons as evidence Allen will greatly improve which seemed odd to me. So why not play along? Simply pointing out that Manning's passing yards were higher didn't complete the whole picture because they're different prospects in different offenses.
-
He's drawn comparisons to Patrick Mahomes who was kind of hidden at Texas Tech and he skyrocket up the draft boards in 2017. I highly doubt he's the next Patrick Mahomes (his college numbers aren't close to what Mahomes's were) but teams may be more willing to roll the dice hoping he is.

I disagree. It gives cities like Nashville, Philly, Cleveland, and Kansas City who don't get to host Superbowls the ability to showcase their city (and all the extra income to local businesses that come with it). I wish they'd keep it to cities that won't get to host Superbowls though. Vegas and Dallas got it because they built state of the art stadiums.

Manning's a statue in the pocket though so it's fairer to compare their combined passing and rushing stats. Allen had over 300 yards combined rushing and passing 5 times in 26 games. Manning did it 7 times in 33 games. Allen had two 4/5 TD games. Manning had zero. Allen had over 3500 combined yards in his first full season starting. Manning did the same in his first two full seasons starting.

That's too much to invest in the D-line with contracts coming up for Milano, Dawkins, White, Poyer (possibly), Edmunds, and hopefully another FA play maker on offense. Beane used a lot of draft capital and free agency money (Oliver, Harry, Star) at D-tackle to pay a rotational guy that much in Phillips. A lower cost option to throw into the rotation is more likely. If we do somehow break the bank for Yannick then it's more likely we take a DE in the first few rounds then resign Shaq. Conversely, we could resign Shaq and then draft another pass rusher if we don't decide to sign a premium pass rusher in free agency. If I had to guess Beane does that before signing a big name DE in free agency. Wasn't aware of that. Last I heard was Harbaugh saying it would be difficult to get a deal done with him.

He's elite against the run and above average when rushing the passer. Here's what everybody's favorite pff said about him recently.... Clowney put up an 88.0 overall grade in 2018 — the highest mark of his career — and he followed up with an 87.3 grade after a trade to the Seahawks despite seeing his sack total drop from nine to three. Clowney has the 11th-best overall grade among all edge defenders since 2017, including the third-best mark against the run (91.3), but his pass-rush grade of 83.9 ranks just 25th among that same group. I'd prefer they didn't give him a record DE contract and pursued Judon (or somebody similar), but would understand why they'd do so.
