  1. I agree. The first ballot should just be for players where you don't have to think twice. Not having TO get in on the first ballot was embarrassing for the HOF voters. If Eli gets in on the first ballot it will downgrade the prestige of that special class.
  2. His 210 consecutive start streak was snapped in 2017 when McAdoo decided to replace him with GENO FRICKEN SMITH. Being benched for Geno Smith might be the strongest argument against Eli being inducted.
  3. -I won't donate to the salvation army around Chirstmas time if the person ringing the bell is inside the store instead of braving the cold outside. -My first thought when my father in law died was I hope the funeral is on a Friday so I could have a three day weekend.
  4. I'd rather draft Hot Rod if we're going after a kicker. I think the Bills won't waste draft capital on a kicker though and will sign a younger FA to compete with Hauschka in training camp.
  5. Cornelius Bennett should get in well before Steve Tasker. Two time defensive player of the year, five pro bowls, and on the 90's all decade team.
  6. Jackson's impressed me since he entered the league as his throwing mechanics continue to improve since his junior year in college. His accuracy/ball placement has improved because of it and he still has more room to grow. His arm strength was never a question. Remind you of anyone? He's going to be a special player if he stays healthy. Him and Allen will be the best two QB's of this draft when all is said and done. I don't see any reason to knock him because of a poor skills competition round. Cecil Fielder his zero home runs in a home run derby.
  7. We had a pretty thorough discussion about this in another thread where the root of the student debt crisis that accelerated after the '08 crash was a racket scheme created by the federal government and the banks that give low interest rate student loans to those who don't deserve them. Yes, one of the arguments of forgiving student debt is for disposable income to bolster the economy. My proposed solution was to loosen the bankruptcy rules so you should be able to declare bankruptcy from student debt in the same way you can for credit cards. It didn't gain much traction in this mostly conservative forum but it's better than just pure forgiveness of loans. We talked about more transitional resources into high school that gives kids a more realistic aspect of the best career options moving forward instead of going into a liberal arts program in college that you'll never use.
  8. The playoff round games gets the highest ratings on Sunday nights so they'd sacrifice ratings (hence money), the host city would lose money without people partying Saturday, and messing with tradition is something the NFL doesn't like to do unless they see a clear profit win for doing so. If they move a team to London they may consider a Saturday game and have it start a little earlier around 5 or so. I think it was after the Bills/Giants SB when they moved it from 5:30 to 6:30.
  9. I was at the position before where I didn't care if they had a draft in a Holiday Inn in Scranton, PA. I could care less about the tradition of having it in NYC. Making it an event in different cities who usually don't get to host Superbowls was one of the NFL's better ideas. I also like them moving city to city because it gives fans of nearby franchises a chance to take a road trip and attend the draft which I'll do in Cleveland in 2021. Weo was questioning the financial side of things where it can be argued that the money the city has to put up (most often using tax payers money) to host a Superbowl or Draft is not made up for in revenue gained. Some cities have lost money hosting Superbowls before. From everything I read that wasn't the case in Nashville and both local businesses, hotels, and the tax dollars generated a net positive income flow for the city. The NFL actually paid for most of the expenditures which was surprising to me as it seems they view it as an opportunity to expand their brand even more.
  10. My goal is to live to when the Superbowl starts with C (Superbowl 100). So far, so good.
  11. My prediction is he endorses Biden before South Carolina if he wins Iowa or New Hampshire. That should give Biden the nomination. However, this politico article says One Democrat who is neutral in the 2020 race and spoke to Obama about Biden’s gaffe-prone nature recalled the former president saying: “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f*** things up.” However, If Biden slips up and Bernie gains the momentum it's going to be hilarious seeing all these corporate Dems start to endorse Bloomberg. A guy who ran as a Republican for mayor accepting Giuliani's endorsement.
  12. Borderline HOFer like Cowher who pry needed that one Superbowl to get in. It might be the same for Reid. He turned around the Eagles and Chiefs. Got the most out of all his QB's (McNabb, Vick, Alex Smith, Mahomes) and was able to tailor his offenses to play to their strengths. Impressive coaching tree. Holmgren deserves to be in btw and was surprised he didn't.
  13. I think Namath is and he shouldn't be in. I don't think Eli should get in. Even in his prime he was never a top 5 quarterback. He made four pro bowls in 15 full seasons as starter. Never an all pro. Led the league in picks three times. Only made the playoffs one time in his last seven seasons and four times in 15. Career .500 record. The interesting part of the debate will be whether his playoff success will trump his average starter stats. Even in the playoffs he had those two magical runs and four one and dones. However, he's the only quarterback to win the Superbowl twice as a WC team. He beat some of the best QB's of his generation at their place (Favre, Rodgers, Romo) and came up clutch in the two Superbowls where he won MVP with the GOAT at QB and coach on the other side. He was 7-0 as an underdog away from home during those two runs. His defense obviously had a lot to do with that but he came up clutch when they needed him most. If there was a Hall of above average he'd definitely get in because of those Superbowl runs, but I don't think two magical runs should trump a career of being a slightly above average starting NFL QB. I think the only reason he gets in is he's a Manning.
  14. I forgot he was a 1st round pick. Short term prove it deal and that's it. He's a slight upgrade over McKenzie/Foster.
  15. Either one as TNF seems to be more divisional games. I just don't see Miami getting any prime time games unless they make some major offseason moves and draft Tua. Yeah. It was 11th out of the 17 NBC prime time slots up to that point. In all fairness, the Steelers were a pretty darn boring team with Duck Hodges leading the way.
  16. The higher than usual ratings for the Cowboys, Steelers, and Texans game will likely lead to at least two Primetime games. If I had to go with three..... Bills@Jets TNF, KC@Bills SNF, Bills@49ers MNF
  17. Well, they estimated 600k people over the course of three days (200k per day). So, pry closer to 250k to 350k actual people.
  18. Why did they blur the address at the bottom but leave the one next to his name intact?
  19. You might want to tell Nashville that. Screw Manhattan. The 2019 NFL Draft generated a financial windfall for its host city of Nashville, Tennessee, and shattered previous record revenues for the league’s premiere offseason event, local tourism officials said this week. The three-day event generated a record overall economic impact of $224 million for the city in terms of spending on lodging, local attractions, food, retail and transportation, the NFL and Nashville Convent ion & Visitors Corp. said in a joint release. That total marked a 79 percent increase over last year’s event in Dallas, which produced an estimated economic impact of $125 million. The NFL Draft also drew a record $133 million in direct spending, up 79 percent compared to last year’s total of $74 million. The event produced $10.6 million in tax revenue for Davidson County in Tennessee.
