  1. Surprised he left a TE out of the equation.  Well thought out though and even though there’s nothing “sexy” here, it does almost everything necessary.  But not upgrading the skill positions with anything but mid-round picks to support Josh’s continued development is where I’d disagree.  Failure to upgrade the teams continued biggest weakness just doesn’t seem “Beaney” at all.  Not only do I think they’ll be in play for compliments at TE, but I think they’ll be focused on bringing in a big-bodied receiver.  But as my wife continues to remind me, I’m way more wrong than right.

Bro, our Ovaltine is organic and made with real sheep’s wool and dirt up here. I’d rather spend 7 minutes alone with a guy doing nothing but Fortnite dances.

Sheep wool powder and that rich, possibly coffee or wine producing soil are both gluten free.  It’s like your health doesn’t even matter to you these days.   And Fortnite dance offs are how my obliques look how they do.  Chiseled from gold, mixed with the laughter of children.

Its beach season Jay...   and when you’re confident in your obliques, glutes and traps...   you don’t care about the ills of society and what delicious “orphan Annie” inspired drinks are made of.  so confident that you use apostrophes and Capital Letters as you damn well feel like it!

Lee with Allen is a sexy idea...

Absolutely!  The Miami game where he and Chambers went off, is as close as we’ll know to what that guy could do.   But a chance to get Fletcher on a McD roster....    ?

I’m surprised there aren’t more calls for Chris Kelsay.....

I think the thought is "It's the Bills, let's have them do something unpredictable and kind of dumb"

The stench lingers after the floor was swept 3 years back.

I kind of feel drafting "sleepers" (aka "thinking we're smarter than everyone else in the room") systematically stymied the Bills for years.  I'm for staying away from players who "flash" and have "unknown upside" and a bad injury history.

I do feel Beane & Co have been generally drafting very well and less "sleeper"-ish, but of course, the Jury is ultimately still out on QB.

How dare you sully the good names of Erik Flowers, Mike Williams, Aaron Maybin and John McCargo!  Not everyone can be an elite “Chris Watson” caliber talent.  These gentleman are just about ready to hit their strides!  They just needed a decade or two...

I've seen some mocks that are questionable but this one. Picking Terrell Lewis over A.J. Epenesa and Gross-Matos at EDGE/OLB. Does anyone have secret info on this guy that we would make such a move?  He's lost 2 seasons due to elbow and knee problems and skipped the Citrus Bowl this year. Seems like damaged goods to waste a #1 pick on.  I'd rather get us a playmaker on offense, but if we go edge, and EP and GM are on the board, this would be crazy. Unless Daboll has magic Tide powers we don't know about.

Not as bad as you think.  I don’t agree with taking him over some of the other talent there, but this is a guy who has tremendous unknown upside that he really flashed late in his career.  Injuries really hampered his production.  He’s a big time sleeper, to crack the top 15, too.

    Aren’t all mocks the worst?

    Yeah. Yeah they are.

It’s a scientific fact that a steady diet consisting of Mock drafts and Ovaltine can help prevent erectile disfunction for those that reside in the pacific north west.   Argue with science...   I dare you, Jay.

All good points well put.  As a counterpoint, and it's a big one - the progression of severity of successive concussions is unpredictable, as I understand it.  But prolonged symptoms of any sort are, I believe, regarded as a "red flag" that subsequent concussions may involve even more prolonged recovery or permanent damage.

Kevin Kolb has been interviewed saying he suffers from severe tinnitus permanently.  Permanent migraines could also be pretty debilitating.

I believe that the guy has been legit cleared from protocol, but I think there are remaining concerns about him playing.

Great point, and absolutely you are correct.  Overlapping concussions can be cumulative. And that’s why they’ve implemented testing that is light years beyond where they were even 5 years ago, to determine if there’s a great cause for concern, including Neuro-Psych, and the new (and WAAAAAY more thorough) baseline comparative testing that identifies markers.  Also, adding the Neuro-Psych e v a l at both the Pro and collegiate levels gives team doctors early markers for things like depression,  mild to severe CI and other cumulative symptoms that cause players to deteriorate.

Its gonna be interesting seeing if a market develops for Reed.  He’s a great kid and an immense talent, but nobody will take on the liability if his baseline testing shows any indicators.

I was wondering how everyone ranks the wide receivers outside of the “consensus” top-5 they are projected to go in the 2nd’ish round.

    Top-5 are:

    Jeudy

    Lamb

    Ruggs III

    Shenault

    Higgins

I feel like the next group consists of the following:

    Reagor

    Jefferson

    Aiyuk

    Hamlin

    Mims

    Peoples-Jones

    Edwards

    Pittman Jr

How would You rank those 8 receivers that come after the initial 5?

I rank Reagor beyond some of the talent you have listed in the top tier (and beyond any in the second tier).  His potential is just off the charts.  That’s just me though.  If the Bills pass on trading up for a WR like JJ, and don’t take Viska, it comes down to Ruggs or Reagor for me.

its probably a good thing that I’m not running the team though...  ?

The state of the art treatment for dehydration due to GI virus these days seems to include not only IV rehydration, but Myers.

(Myers is a solution of B vitamins, vit. C, magnesium, calcium, and glutathione).

Apparently give a pukey student IV rehydration and some Myers Cocktail and they feel right chipper and trot right off to drill down on the Tensor Calculus and Fluid Mechanics. (the cheap treatment is an anti-emetic drug to stop vomiting and a couple bottles of nasty-tasting oral rehydration salts you tell them to quaff.  My kid has to take the cheap road.)

So I was wondering....is this something NFL teams do?  In addition to countering the effects of dehydration due to vomiting/“the runs”, it might help if guys are just starting to feel exhausted and run down.

And then of course there’s this for the Party Gang:  Apparently it’s a business enterprise in Las Vegas now!  ?

“Hangover Heaven: When you’re in Las Vegas, the last thing you need is a hangover ruining your fun!  Hangover Heaven provides the most complete hangover treatment, designed to rid you of your worst hangover symptoms safely and effectively....45 minutes...$199”

When these guys are earning a minimum of $32,000/game, seems cost-effect if someone is “under the weather” for any reason

There was a study in either 2011 or 12, where 75% of the league reported they were doing pre-game IVs for players with a B compound/ electrolyte solution.  This, in addition to halftime and post-game.  I think I remember the IV was very similar to what you’re describing.  Not sure if it’s still common practice but most of the league does it to avoid dehydration issues.

  9. Seems like overwhelming concern here.   But it’s important to understand there’s different degrees of concussions, so without knowing the severity or the ongoing symptoms he had for 6 months, there’s no telling.  For example, migraines, photosensitivity, tinnitus are all examples of post-concussion symptoms that if a player reports, will keep them from getting cleared.  I think his being honest with the medical staff about some of the lingering things shows he has enough good sense and concern for himself to make a sound decision.   Also and this is really important, today’s neurological presence and advancements in the NFL will not permit players to easily be activated from protocol.  There’s an impartiality to the process that even Dan Snyder can’t manipulate.  It’s easy to see 7 concussions and react, but there’s just so much that’s weighed when reviewing the degree and severity of an injury that doesn’t show up on scans.  The real measure of concern will be known once we see who takes a flier.   The Bills have already been mentioned as a possibility, given the Olsen attempt.   You’ll know teams share the same concerns, if he’s not signed or at least, worked out.   But I wouldn’t vilify any him or  any team signing him, if their medical staff clears him.

also....Aside from Cincy and NYJ, the Redskins have one of the more questionable medical teams in the business and have come under fire recently.  If he had been dishonest and prematurely passed, all that is “3rd party”, would be gone and he’d be in the team’s hands.  Speaking with folks in that area, JR did everything the right way at the behest of the 3rd party and not the team’s medical staff. I’m hopeful more will come to light about this once he moves on, too.  The Redskins are notorious for rushing players back and you’re starting to see players coming forward.  That’s exactly why INC’s have been assigned.  The team physician I believe cleared him, but the dedicated INC did not, which landed him on IR.  If he passes the cognitive assessments (which he has fully) and a team signs him, more power to him.

I'd just love to know why he drops the easy ones, but makes SportsCenter highlight catches.  I wonder if the open space scares him (getting clocked from behind).

Drops and missed blocks.  Second in yards is great.  Like I said - I love the kid.  But unless he can do the fundamental stuff with consistency, he'll be a disappointment.

I think it’s only a matter of experience.  He just wasn’t used as a receiver in college and if you watch him on the majority of his drops, his eyes just aren’t on the ball.  They’re always looking upfield in anticipation.  That should be pretty easy to coach up.  Similar issues with OJ Howard, only he won’t be coached to correct it in Arians offense, because....   well...  Bruce Arians....

I would like to see us do both - make a play in FA AND draft a guy.  Hopefully we’ll be successful enough in FA and with resigning guys that Beane will let the draft come to him, but I don’t think he’d have a compunction in making moves if he needs to.

Agree 100%!  If the right guy is willing to come to Buffalo and fits the defense and culture, I think Beane’s proven he’ll make a strong, concerted effort.   I can imagine the Bills will be more active in trade discussions this year, too.  Players that had tough situations last year, leading to coaching turnover (or hot seat talk) would be ideal.  Cleveland and Atlanta come to mind.   Dallas has a few as well.   It all depends on how close they think we REALLY are though.   I think we’ll learn a lot about Beane this offseason as he looks to make his mark.

Yeah, see above.  Autocorrect bit my a**

See above, me bad meant DE and somehow this iPad decided I really meant something else ?

I agree an edge guy has to be top of mind.  But I think they’ll be players in FA for one.  I think Beane thinks we’re closer than he’s letting on.  I’m not a big “mock” fan, but this could be the year that Buffalo grabs a top FA (or two) and trades up for their guy if they feel they’re “there”.  Probably just hopeless optimism on my part, but we’ll see.  March and April can’t get here fast enough.

Off the topic and I’m sure some guys here would hate this, but if we do trade up it’s my feeling we’d do it for a TE, not a WR.

Interesting, but I just don’t see it.  Maybe mid-round, but the Bills trying to bring in Vets so early tells me they are more interested in veteran influence to help the young guys grow.   I think if they trade, it’s for a complete WR they absolutely covet, like Jeudy.  TE is such a hard position to get starter production from these days.  But nothing’s impossible!  ?

Missing in all this -at least for me, is WHY? Behavior/attitude/criminal charges? I haven’t seen or read anything about it. If it’s any of these things, he’s not ‘Process’. It would be fantastic though to add ANOTHER great CB!

I think it’s more an impasse between Slay and the brass there.  He thinks he should be the top paid CB and they don’t think he’s played close to that level (which most agree).  Good corner, but his opinion of himself outweighs reality in my opinion.
