  1. I doubt he’ll be there because the Phins love for him seems genuine (as it should).  But oh my, would I RUN to the podium if he was.  The beginning of the 2nd is going to be interesting when it comes to the run on RBs.  But yea...  Sign me up because I would have to imagine he would be BPA at that point.

Mitch Goldich of SI had this to say about Newton:

So if he’s not walking into an open starting job, here’s my total darkhorse candidate that should consider him: The Buffalo Bills.

The Bills are a playoff team. They have a great defense. They came into this offseason with a ton of cap room, and still have the 10th-most available. They just brought in a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver. They also may smell a particularly ripe time to go all-in chasing their first AFC East title since 1995, with the Dolphins still building up, the Jets being eternally unreliable and the Patriots finally turning the page on the Tom Brady era.

I know Josh Allen has a lot of supporters insisting he got better throughout last season, and that he has a chance to take another step forward this year. I also know how the nation felt during his most recent game, watching him struggle his way through the second half and overtime of a 16-point blown lead against the Texans.

The Bills might come to the conclusion that Josh Allen is good enough. They could also easily be one year away from the situation Chicago found itself in with Mitchell Trubisky this offseason—suddenly very aware their quarterback simply isn’t the guy, in danger of letting the window close on an otherwise good team. Buffalo would be better served taking a chance on an undervalued player one year early instead of overpaying for a solution one year too late. If Newton is healthy, he could be an immediate upgrade over Allen and make Buffalo a real contender in the AFC. If he’s not healthy, Buffalo would still have the quarterback that led the team to a wild-card berth last year.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott was the defensive coordinator in Carolina for six years, including Cam’s MVP/Super Bowl campaign. Of course, that’s not the same as Philip Rivers walking into his old offensive coordinator Frank Reich’s system in Indy. But they are at least familiar with each other. McDermott is uniquely qualified to know whether or not Newton would be a good fit for that team, outside the X’s and O’s of the scheme. If Newton is going to be available for below-market value, somebody should pounce. Why not Buffalo?

Simple answer...  Because Josh Allen’s upside isn’t worth risking against Cam Newton’s downside (respectfully).

  3. 2 things I’m extremely sure about when it comes to AJ Dillon...

#1 his lower center of gravity stands a good chance of making him much more consistent than most “big backs”

#2 if he stole a potato off of my plate at Golden Corral, I probably wouldn’t try to get it back.

  4. Our need for his ability to stretch the field and win contested catches was nullified the moment the Bills brought in Diggs.  We won’t run many 4 receiver sets with our TEs in tow.  Our outside speed and inside separation is already at its best point in years.  We should let these guys gel, get as much time with each other as possible and draft one of the young (raw but promising- Pittman?) prospects in this draft.  Throwing the dice at the wall, first 3 picks will all be BPA and could fall in any order of DB, WR, RB.

  5. If Murphy stays, it’s because the team thinks his late-season surge will carry over (which should be a huge plus for this defense).  But trading him for a RB who battled explosiveness issues and conditioning BEFORE suffering a major injury doesn’t seem like a prudent move.   This is a solid draft where RBs should slide in lieu of QBs, OLs and especially WRs.  Not the time to mortgage a large salary hit or draft capital on used tires, in my opinion.  Murphy should be fine.

A sincere tip of the cap to all of you guys for all you’ve done to bring news, entertainment and discussion to Bills fans!  Given everything that’s transpiring in the world and it’s effects on sports, TBD has been a phenomenal place to be because of your relentless efforts to keep pace with breaking news.  Seriously guys... really great job and thank you for what you do!!!

And if I’ve missed anyone (and I’m sure I have because I’m not altogether very swift), someone please fill in and recognize them for their efforts!

And yet Denver offered it when they have Lindsay there already.

My guess would be there were talks. We probably implied we’d offer more with less guarantees or something. Agent gave that info to Klis. Beane told Schefter we never made an offer (probably was never an official contract sent to them but likely a verbal offer).

Or it’s still possible the agent simply made it up to try to soften the blow that Gordon signed an underwhelming deal.

I definitely don’t think it’s impossible that we offered around that much money to a guy we’ve been linked to for a year now.

Beane took a call from Gordon’s agent.  That call was leveraged by the agent.  It’s an old and dirty tactic (and infamous for this agent specifically).  I can’t speak to the level of interest the Bills had because I just don’t know.  But two things are very true here...

#1 Pf411 or whatever there name is, is on the same playing field as Incarcerated Bob (It’s like a cupcake.  All fun, no substance and you feel gross afterwards).

#2 And if any Bills fan feels taken by the rumors, don’t feel bad at all.   So were the Broncos.  To the tune of 16M.

I shared this in jest before and it probably came across the wrong way, but there’s probably way more truth to it than even I realized when I jokingly sent it...

D Bilbo:  (dials phone). “Hey Brandon!  It’s Dem!  How would you like to sign the services of THE Melvin “Flash” Gordon? Only 12 mil a season!!!!”

Beane:  (yawns from being awakened before 5pm).  “How did you even get my number?” (Hangs up).

D Bilbo:  “Hello?  Brandon?  Is this a fake hang up?  It’s a fake hang up, isn’t it?”

Elway:  “Really?  That’s steep Dem.  mind if I conference in Beane to understand the guarantees?”

D Bilbo:  “Ugh, you’re breaking up, John...  I can do 8 mil though because let’s face it, it’s Buffalo!!!  Lowest I can go!  No need to waist your minutes!”

My guess from seeing the various reports over the past few days is that the Bills had interest to a certain price point and then dropped out - and/or I think his representation may have told the Bills that he wanted to stay in the afc west which is why wawrow reported he thought he would end up in KC or Denver last night after talking to his bills source

    Probably something like this...
