  1. Did you mean Deonte Thompson? He's in Dallas right now and had the dropsies yesterday. He's streaky, has stretches where he plays well and stretches where he looks completely unreliable.
  2. His adjusted completion percentage is probably somewhere around 75%. KB dropped two, one was a routine slant, the other was a contested catch that he got out-worked for and going up and coming down with those contested catches is supposed to be one of his strong suits. The Clay drop was a good throw but a tough catch to make. The deep ball to Foster was on the money, Foster just short-armed it. That was a consistent criticism I saw in his scouting reports, he's got speed, athleticism, he's improved on his route running but he has trouble tracking the ball and getting himself in a position to catch it. What's really awesome to see is a QB that is not afraid to sit there in the pocket and wait for the play to develop. With EJ, he'd dropback and be tap-dancing right away, eyes would drop to look at the rush and he'd either rush with his throw and launch a wobbler or take off when he had the chance to hang in there and make a play. With Taylor, it's dropback, scan the field, scan it some more, doesn't throw anyone open and doesn't throw into risky areas so after that, he's running around and half the time he'd make a 'wow' play, the other half, he's getting sacked. Allen has been pretty consistent with staying in the pocket and his movement and awareness is much further along than I thought it'd be. I'm sure he'll get better at pre-snap adjustments with more experience. And I'm sure there are gonna be bummer games where he doesn't look so good but he seems to be showing steady, consistent improvement from game to game. Very interested to see what he can do once they provide him some better weapons out there.
  3. Obviously no GM hits it out of the park on every draft pick or free agent signing but at this point I'm pretty confident that McBeane has this team on the right track. It's been mentioned before but yes, Doug Whaley was/is a solid scout but his team-building philosophy wasn't great. He figured if he drafted players from consistently winning college programs then that winning tradition would somehow come with those players and translate into the locker room. It didn't. During Whaley's tenure, he was also saddled with two coaches that, I'm pretty sure, he didn't care for and didn't want to work with from the jump. Still, he did his best to provide them the types of players they wanted for their schemes. IMO, Whaley is probably better off in a Director of Player Personnel position and being a guy who helps in the decision-making process but doesn't have the final say. During the last few years of the drought, one of the things that seemed to stand out to former Bills players and people that were around those players (like wives) during those runs in the 90's was that they always said the team wasn't playing for each other. Whether it was Marrone or Ryan, the sideline never looked hyped up, whenever they were down by a couple of scores it looked like those guys just wanted to finish the game and bail. I know McDermott and Beane take some heat for trying to fill the team with "boy scouts" but I can fully understand what they're trying to do... and it seems to be working. Look at last season, they compile a team that isn't the most talented but made up for that with heart and effort. The Taiwan Jones play vs. the Bucs last season says a lot to me. Whole sidelined erupted after a career backup/special teams guy made a nice play to pick up a first down on 3rd and long. They're building a team that truly plays for each other and trusts the vision and message coming from their leader. They want players who have the team-first mindset and aren't really concerned with personal achievements as much as just winning. And the cleansing of the roster has a lot to do with that. It makes sense to see Beane purge the roster of a lot of Whaley's picks and some other players he brought in because, unfortunately, a lot of those guys simply got used to losing. Or they became OK with being mediocre, middle-of-the-road every year and never really getting over the hump. They needed a completely fresh perspective in the locker room. Any veterans or hold-overs from Whaley's time (or even Nix's time or earlier) that had the right mindset, stuck around and were model leaders, guys like Kyle, Wood, Alexander, etc. Anyone that couldn't get on board with what they had in mind is playing somewhere else, despite their talent. Would I love to have a Sammy Watkins out there for Josh Allen? Definitely. But his attitude and mindset had become toxic here. He's openly admitted that he'd walk off the field after a win and be upset that he only had a handful of catches. It's great that he wanted to make more of an impact but he wanted to make that impact moreso to make himself look good. And I'll throw some blame on Marrone and Rex for never properly utilizing the guys skill set (aside from the second half of the 2015 season). You make your GM look like a colossal ass-hat if you use the 4th overall pick (that the team had to trade up for) as a friggin' decoy to free up other players. You don't do that with a player like him. You make him a focal point of your offense and they never really did that, again, except for the last 8 games in 2015. So, when evaluating which kinds of players they wanna bring in here, character plays a large role. And that's fine. I used to think they might pass up on a highly talented player because of their character concerns but I'm not so sure they would. If they build a strong locker room with solid leaders, then they should have confidence in those leaders to help a young, talented player with a few character concerns get his head on straight and reach his potential.
  4. Properly execute his assignments. He struggled with the X's and O's a lot through camp with that.
  5. Depends on if they can play defense the way they did in the second half against LAC and if the run game gets going. Having Shady dinged up with the ribs isn't ideal. If they can play D and run the ball alright then maybe he goes 17 for 28, 218 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. If they fall behind early and the run game is caca, then probably like 23 for 48, 311 yards, 1 TD, 2 picks, handful of sacks. Either way, after watching Tyrod last night, I'm happy to be rooting for a QB that doesn't flinch on pushing the ball down the field. I know it'll result in some picks here and there but that's how he learns and he's also looking to give his receivers a chance to make a play.
  6. Didn't watch Dawkins too closely but did catch him off-balance and out of position a couple times.
  7. Surprised Groy hasn't stepped up and played better. He played really well when he had to step in for Wood. Played well enough that they matched the offer sheet the Rams gave him in order to retain him. Miller was visibly fired up early in the game last week. Looks like he gives a sh*t and wants everyone on the same page and getting it done. Actually haven't heard Mills or Dawkins names mentioned much which is typically a good sign that those guys are handling business. But yeah, Groy has been rough and this week I'm pretty sure we're gonna see Bodine. And of course Edmunds and Allen are gonna take their lumps this season. They're gonna look great at times and at times they're gonna leave us wondering, "What the crap was that?" Edmunds, a 20-year old rookie in his second ever start, got played by a 15-year future Hall of Famer... he ain't the first Rivers has done that to and he won't be the last. Allen... first NFL start, had some highs and lows. The game is moving pretty fast for him right now but with more experience and the more he sees from different defenses, the more it'll slow down and come to him. We also have no idea how he's being coached right now. Are they encouraging him to take what the defense gives him? Are they calling just half-field reads? Or is it maybe that he's only played in 1.5 NFL games and is learning on the fly. It's gonna be a tough season but there will be some high points and there's no better way for these young guys to learn than to be in it and playing, gaining hands-on experience. Mistakes are how we learn. Expect young players to make them. I'm not saying this to the OP or anyone in particular but, honestly, it feels like if Allen doesn't come out and complete 94% of his passes for 550 yards and 12 touchdowns he's a bust. If Edmunds doesn't make 21 tackles, get 6 sacks, picks off 3 passes, causes 2 fumbles and returns one for a TD then he's a bum. They'll get better the more they play. Just boggles my mind that for so long, so many fans wanted the full on rebuild. No more patch-up jobs, no more bridge QBs, etc. etc. And now they're finally getting what they've asked for and two weeks in and they're losing their minds. (Again, not you, OP, this is just in general). Aye yi yi. This board was a great place to have a nice time discussing the Bills and football in general. Last couple weeks have been abysmal.
  8. What is it that fans like you don't understand? Watkins had ZERO interest in staying in Buffalo past his fifth year option, nada, none. He hadn't stayed healthy and has openly admitted he was more concerned about his own stats than helping the team win. They wanted him to prove it in year four, hence why they declined the 5th year option. Had they given him the 5th year option, he's leaving the minute that option is done and free agency opens up and the Bills get nothing but a bunch of wonderfully intellectual logical fans like you screaming at them for letting top talent walk out the door for nothing. Instead, they trade him and got assets in return, and you're still whining. They offered Robert Woods a deal. He wanted to test free agency, got lucky and got to sign with a hometown team. Can't fault him for wanting to be close to home and landing on a team that was on the tail-end of their rebuild as opposed to sticking with a team that was just beginning theirs. While Watkins and Woods were here, this team ran the ball more than any other team in the league while throwing it less than any other team in the league. What's your selling point to a wide receiver in that case? "Hey man, we know you're talented and want the ball but our QB is pretty limited, however our run game is great so we're gonna run it 45 times a game and try not to throw it more than 25 times a game, how's that sound?" The player has to want to sign to the team offering the contract. People act as if they just kicked guys off the team willy-nilly with no long-term plans. And they end up with Benjamin last season only because they didn't expect to be sitting at 5-2 near the trade deadline with a real chance to end the drought. So they made a move to help end that drought. And ya know what? Benjamin helped end it by catching a TD pass in the snow game to help them win over the Colts. Last season, most of this fan-base couldn't be more ecstatic that a regime was coming in here ready to tear it down and rebuild. They're two games into their rebuild and so many of you can't handle it that you gotta put on your super duper special hindsight spectacles and vomit bullsh*t all over the board like you know something. Get it through your head: 2018 is meant to suck. They're not going to win a lot of games. It's about getting experience for these young players, helping them progress and evaluating how they move forward in the future. Pull back on your emotions, don't worry about game results, just observe and look for improvement and progress. Makes watching the games a lot easier.
  9. Not only do I feel sobered... I am also sufficiently warned.
  10. Honestly, a fair number of these "draft experts" are just chomping at the bit to prove themselves right. They go through the pre-draft process and pick apart every player bit by bit in ways that border on obsessive and then when said player makes a mistake that the analyst pointed out, it's like they can't wait to hit Twitter and start screaming, "See?! See everyone?!?! I'm right! I pointed out a thing and that thing came true!!!" It's a miracle they don't trip over their boners as they try to race to their computers. What's especially amusing is when one of these smug asshats gets served by the actual player they're evaluating. They'll tweet out a video of a play and say, "Player A does this when he should've done that, shows poor instincts!" And then Player A pops up in their mentions and says, "Are you in the huddle? Do you know the call? What you're saying is the exact opposite of my assignment on that play." And what did these numbnut writers expect? Allen was gonna go in there with a patchy OL, subpar receivers against a solid defense and come out 30 for 33 for 418 yards and 5 TDs? Experience and progress. That's the goal for Allen this season.
  11. I'm all for them bringing in a vet backup to help him out but it works both ways, a player has to wanna sign here as well. For all we know, Beane could've reached out to a handful of guys and they're just not interested in going through the grind of an NFL season just to serve in a mentor role. With the whole Carolina connection, I thought Derek Anderson would make sense. Again, we have no idea, perhaps Beane did make a call and Anderson may have just said, "No thanks, I'm retired." We don't know what goes on behind the scenes. Some people sure act like they know, tho.
  12. Flacco didn't test him in Week One either. Teams are actively avoiding him. That was just a fantastic throw and catch by Rivers/Williams. Bills had good coverage, sometimes the other team just makes a play.
  13. Meh. That's what I think when I hear Preston Brown. I think he's a serviceable player but overall, he's just another guy. He can talk all he wants about weird stuff going on up here. He completely checked out for both seasons that Rex was here because he didn't like the scheme. Not that I blame him, because Rex had to come in here and fudge up a perfectly decent defense. But, as the leader on defense, you're expected to set the tone/example for the other guys and he didn't wanna do that because he didn't like the scheme. And he probably wasn't held accountable for it while Rex was here. Now Buffalo fields a coach who's all about accountability and it's "weird stuff." Whatever.
  14. I think I heard enough from him when he called the game Sunday. Blamed everything short of the Blizzard of '77 on Allen. "And ya see here, Bob, Hughes just misses that tackle and that's really on the young QB, Allen. It's a mistake he'll have to learn from." "Billy Buffalo tripped and dropped a steamin' hot tray of nachos on a group of kindergartners up in section 308... the young QB Allen has to recognize that and fix it."
  15. The near-constant criticism of the FA signings is silly. People saying the Bills did wrong or didn't do enough to sign this guy or that guy, it's dumb. It takes two to tango. The player has to wanna sign here. Since Beane's taken over, the Bills seem to have been linked to all sorts of free agents or players on the trade block, more than any previous FO I can recall in recent memory. They're always actively looking to see what's available. But they're limited in cap space and again, they can't force players to sign here. And just like players, personnel executives get opportunities to work elsewhere. It's just business. Day after day this board is just flooded with, "Do the Bills suck this year because of this? Or is it this? Should they fire everyone? Should they push the stadium into Lake Erie? Should they make the whole team retire?" It's a friggin' rebuild. 2019... 10 draft picks and I have no doubt they'll find ways to acquire more, and a truckload of cap space. It'll come together.
  16. Attend their quilt-making club every other Tuesday at the Big Tree Inn.
  17. If he couldn't tell that this team was undergoing a complete rebuild and was not going to be a contender this season then that's on him. His options were limited due to his injuries. Bills were likely one of very few teams that called him and offered a respectable deal. And it was a one-year deal so he knew he was not in the future plans for this team. I'm sure he was told he'd have a chance to win a starting job but was also told nothing would be promised or guaranteed. In addition to that, I'm sure they told him they felt like he could add a veteran presence in the DB room. He's a 10-year vet who's seen it all and could share a lot of knowledge. This type of set up happens all over the league on every team. He didn't roll into Buffalo expecting to contend for a Super Bowl. He knew this team was in for a bumpy ride this season and he chose to sign on for it. And then, for reasons only he understands, one half of regular season football as a Buffalo Bill was all he wanted to put in. 2-0, 1-1, 0-2, 0-1-1, 0-0-2, however you wanna cut it, he made up his mind a few weeks ago and just chose a ridiculous time to cut the cord on his career. He was a first round pick, made a couple of Pro Bowls, was a very solid CB for most of his career but now all he's gonna be remembered for is being the guy that quit at halftime.
  18. Some of these comments...good lord, you'd think the entire Bills organization went out and pissed on Ralph Wilson's grave. Those of you all salty about not getting Gordon realize that he has played in exactly 11 out of his last 64 games, right? You understand that he's under a microscope with the NFL and is one slip up away from another year long suspension, right? You think he's gonna immediately catch onto the "Patriot Way" and suddenly clean up his act after struggling for nearly 10 years with his substance abuse? If anything, this whole ordeal is going to stress him out even more and make his sobriety that much harder to maintain. "But, but, we dun gots no receivers!" Maybe so, but this is a rebuild. Suck it up and let them work. And if the Bills had landed Gordon, I would just about guarantee he'd end up suspended after a game or two and 70% of this board would be screaming, "Another failed signing by the failure known as Beane!" Seriously...there is just no winning with some of you. Most of y'all wanted them to clean house, so they did. Most of y'all wanted them to hit the reset button, so they did. Most of y'all said they needed to get out of cap hell which they're in the process of. Ya said they needed to finally pull the trigger and draft a QB high, they did. Most of y'all would throw fits when last GMs wouldn't trade around and collect extra picks. Now you got a GM who does that and you're like, "No no, not like that!" And then some of you think these guys can only be deemed a real talent evaluator by seeing into the future and finding out that Patrick Mahomes would have the start he's had. And you think putting him here would yield the same results? KC added pieces as they went along, just as the Bills will do. You wanted crappy contracts gone. You wanted them to build thru the draft. You wanted them to go with a young, innovative OC. They did. This is a full on rebuild. Is it a bit concerning to see two rough games like these last two? Yeah. But the second half of yesterday's game showed that they do indeed have some competitiveness in them. Sounds like Frazier wasn't adjusting so McDermott has to take over. Most of y'all were sick of the lame duck coaches who couldn't get a team into shape or adjust during games. McDermott didn't like what he saw and said, you know what, I'm gonna have to take over for a bit. They've made good on their statements about how they envisioned building this team. Did you think everything was gonna automatically come together? This sh*t takes time. Be patient. Let them work. And for cripes sake, you can't get your nips twisted because they aren't signing every player you think they should. It's almost as if some of you completely forget (or, more likely, willfully ignore) that a free agent has to want to sign here. What're they supposed to do? Lock a guy in the building and kick him in the junk until he takes their deal? They inherited a pretty messy roster and a locker room with a losing mentality ingrained in their minds as well as a major lack of cohesion and brotherhood among the players. The only way to really fix that is to flip the roster. For so long I've seen people begging for the house cleaning and fresh starts and now that they're in the middle of that exact process, those same people *still* aren't satisfied. I've said it before, but it seriously feels like this team could win the next 37 Super Bowls and there would be posts saying, "McBeane has to go! They did NOT win their 37th Lombardi in the exact manner I wanted, therefore they are an inept bunch of turds!" Aye yi yi. Just relax. Beane and McDermott don't have a combined 40+ years of experience because they don't know what they're doing. I guess no matter what, some people are just never gonna be satisfied.
  19. Hearing news now that Davis had mentioned to some Bengals players after their preseason game that he "didn't have it anymore" just makes this thing weirder. If he felt like he couldn't physically keep up anymore, why drag it out and then cap off a decent career with something that will always tarnish his name? Do what Keenan Robinson did. He approached McDermott and told him he felt like he couldn't perform at the level needed for the NFL and retired. But Davis... He says balls to that and does it at halftime in a regular season game. I still maintain that he was salty about being scratched in favor of Gaines for the first game. I won't go as far to say that he bailed at halftime to stick it to 'em in a way but I have a feeling that at halftime he was told he would be second fiddle to someone else and maybe that finally triggered something and he just said, "I can't do this anymore." If that's the case, at least have the decency to finish the damn game.
  20. I also feel having an experienced backup to help Allen out would be beneficial. Maybe they felt like McCarron really didn't fit that role? I mean, the guy went to arbitration to become a free agent because he felt like he could start somewhere. He had a shot here, it didn't go his way and they moved on. Who knows if he would've been the right kinda guy to fill the Josh McCown-type role? I don't doubt that Beane is keeping his eyes open in case someone becomes available. I'm surprised they haven't given Derek Anderson a call given his history with Carolina.
  21. I agree with Joe B. This board and the old Bills message board, there was constant clamoring for them to clean house and start over. So they finally do and half the fan-base is ready to turn on them again. Nine and a half months ago thousands of fans stood out in freezing weather to welcome the team home after they made the playoffs. Now nothing is good enough? They've acquired draft capital. They've traded around. They've taken chances on different players. They've had to deal with poor contracts from other regimes. They can't fix everything in one full off-season. (And I say one full off-season because 2018 was Beane and his crews first full off-season running the show). They got rid of business office people. They got rid of people who couldn't stop flapping their lips to the media. They have an articulate and educated HC and GM able to explain themselves fairly eloquently... a welcome change after loud-mouth Rex and "I'm not really good so much at the talking and explaining of the things or who my boss is" Doug Whaley. Adios to the snoozin' on FA day GMs like Nix. Adios to the guys that never had any business being GMs in Marv Levy (god love him, superb coach, never should've been a GM) and Russ Brandon. Adios to Doug "He's a good scout but bad team-builder" Whaley. And now people are turning on Beane in the opposite manner? "He has a decent vision for team-building but he a bad scout!" For the love of crap, what do you want?! Perfection right from the jump? Doesn't happen. More spinning their tires in the mud? More 7-9, 8-8 records? More seasons just good enough to keep them out of reach of an elite draft pick? Complaining about all the free agents they got because they don't look like Hall of Famers after two games? Saying they've neglected the OL and WR positions when they've drafted a second round left tackle, a developmental guard, signed some stop-gap guys, retained a center who showed potential to take over as the starter, signed another center just in case, made a huge push for a solid right tackle like Ricky Wagner. Traded for a WR, drafted a second-round WR, made a push to sign Jeremy Maclin, signed Anquan Boldin who decided to go be an activist. I mean, to say they haven't addressed these things is just flat out wrong. Has it gone well? Not yet. But no team hits it out of the park on every free agent. Oh, and, as I've mentioned in other threads, free agents also have to want to sign here. What're they supposed to do, tie guys up and throw loonies at them until they sign? And now they gotta be fortune tellers to? They were supposed to know that Mahomes would start out on fire? Let's just forget he has one of the greatest QB coaches of all time in his ear and a group of stacked skill players around him. Think he has that kind of success if he comes here? C'mon now. This season is about the young, core players on this team (Josh Allen, Tremaine Edmunds, Tre'Davious White, Dion Dawkins, Zay Jones, etc.) growing and becoming cornerstones for the foundation upon which they'll build this team. And they'll get to the OL. Beane was on the staff in Carolina that drafted Ryan Kalil (5x Pro Bowl, 2x All-Pro and, what's this, he's a free agent in 2019), Trai Turner (3x Pro Bowl) and Daryl Williams, a serviceable guard (that, unfortunately wound up on IR last week). Pretty decent interior OL. Everyone wants the success but nobody wants to exercise patience and let these guys do their thing.
  22. Everyone wants dessert but nobody wants to wait for the chef to make it. "Now! Give it to me, NOW NOW NOW, it should be on my plate right NOW! Anything less is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE, I know, because I have less Cheeto dust on my ratty-ass t-shirt than the other Bills fan!" I'll tell you what the Pegulas didn't sign up for, having to find new coaches every other year within the first few years of their tenure as NFL team owners. They intended on keeping Marrone, he's a moody, weird jackass who quit. They goofed with Rex Ryan but McDermott and Beane? They think extremely highly of these guys and they know the only way to obtain long-term success is by going through the difficult times, letting the young, core players of this team gain experience and continue to fill out the team as they go. They're cleaning up a cap mess from a previous regime. I've seen fans piss and moan that the team doesn't do enough in the draft. Beane has been extremely active in trades and was very active in his first full draft as a GM. "They did NOTHING to address the OL!" They didn't? No one recalls that they made a big push for right tackle Ricky Wagner? Then traded up in the second round to get Dion Dawkins, who, at this time last year, was "way better than Glenn, they should trade Glenn!" so they did, and now it's, "Oh, those idiots never shoulda traded a past-his-prime OT with mounting injuries!" "They did NOTHING to address the WR group!" They didn't? They made a push for Jeremy Maclin, he decided to sign elsewhere. They signed Anquan Boldin, he decided to retire. They traded up for Zay Jones. They traded for Kelvin Benjamin. Has it been pretty? No, and it's not always going to be that way. But to say they aren't trying to address these things is flat out wrong. Keep in mind, they've chosen to be a team that throws the ball the fewest times in the league over the last three seasons. And now Vontae Davis goes and does something completely unprecedented and people are trying to twist that into, "oh it's a poor look on the decision makers!" Really? So, in addition to needing an absolute, infallible laser-eye for talent, Beane and his team need to be fortune tellers now as well? "Oh, well, a signing like that just shows that they're scraping the bottom of the FA barrel!" Maybe they are, but look at the money they had to spend this year. They couldn't go out there and just wave around bags of cash and scream at players to come sign here. It's as if people forget that players must also AGREE to sign here. But oh, that's right, when a player leaves the building after an FA visit, that's all on Beane and his crew. Those frickin' failures! They're supposed to chain up any visiting player and slap him in the face with a contract until he signs it, I forgot. They tuned up the secondary, it looks like they've found their linebackers. I think we'd all like to see more pressure from that front four but it looked like they were dialing up some more successful calls in the second half yesterday. And if they're gonna pick top five next year, well, they'll have their choice of some premiere DL because the DL class is loaded. And it's clear that they've intended on constructing defense first with a plan to still lean heavily on D and the run game while their young QB learns on the fly. I'm sure they'll put more emphasis on the offense in 2019. Has everything been perfect? No. It's not supposed to be. The road to success isn't an easy, flat path. There's curves, bumps, hell, the road to success looks like a lot of the roads in Buffalo right after winter and the snowplows have beat the crap out of them. I know it sucks to watch your favorite team lose. But we've gotta let these guys work and stop questioning every single little thing they do. Every team makes mistakes. Every team signs a guy that doesn't work out. Every team goes through a period of growing pains as young players gain experience. And if you hired an entirely new staff from top to bottom every other year then you're making absolutely sure that your team never becomes a contender. "Clean house" and "start over" are terms I've seen all over this board and the old Bills message board for ages. The people clamoring for that finally get what they want and two games into it they're ready to throw in the towel? For years I've seen people flip out about Tom Donahoe, Marv Levy & Russ Brandon, Buddy Nix, Doug Whaley, etc. Nix didn't deal around in the draft. Whaley gave out terrible deals (keep in mind, Whaley re-signed guys like Glenn, Dareus and Hughes after seasons in which they played at a high level, had he not re-signed them and they went elsewhere, he woulda been vilified for "letting their top talent walk out the door for nothing!") Enter McBeane... they're one of the most active FO's in terms of trades and dealing around draft picks, doing things that many fans have been wanting to see for years. And now that's not good enough either. "Show us the baby, show us the baby!" Cripes, does the baby come out dressed to the nines and ready to take on the town right from the jump? No. It has to be nurtured, complimented with other assets, built up with certain skills, placed in a position to succeed. Has McBeane done everything perfectly? No, and again, no team does. But they're taking chances. They're inquiring on available players. They're inquiring about players on the trade block. They're cleaning up a cap mess, they've drafted who they believe is their franchise QB, they've found who they believe is their long-term starter at left tackle, they've found their long-term #1 cornerback, they've got their QB of the defense who just happens to be one of the freakiest athletes in the league. But, oh, they couldn't see into their crystal ball and see that Patrick Mahomes was gonna light the league on fire in his first two starts. Dang them! Those friggin' losers! As if Mahomes would have the same results here. If Mahomes was here, he'd be having games like Allen had yesterday and people would be ready to be done with him as well. Andy Reid is one of the greatest QB coaches in history and happens to have a team that is absolutely stacked in skill positions. Mahomes is in an ideal situation. Allen isn't, but he has the fortitude and mental toughness to deal with that, take his lumps and grow with this team as opposed to coming into a situation where the team was already set to go. It ain't perfect. They're out there doing what they can with what they got. Do I agree with everything they've done? Nah. I really would like to see them find a long-time veteran QB to bring in here for Allen. Someone that's been around, someone who's seen all the looks and fronts, someone Allen can come to on the sideline and ask, "What'd you see?" and get answers. But I understand that this stuff takes time. Question the process? Yeah, sure. Waver on your trust? That's fine too. But if you think the answer is getting rid of these guys and starting all over again, that's not the way to go about it. The Pegulas most certainly signed off on this. They have a great deal of faith and respect for Beane and McDermott and they are going to let these guys handle their business and not get in their way. If things are still the same two, three years from now, then we can really say that the process isn't working. Until then, I'mma let these dudes do their thing. And, this is just myself here, but for this season, I'm obviously still a fan, but I'm not going to let the losses or the bad plays get to me. For me, I'm observing and looking for improvements. Makes watching the games a little easier. Heck, you can even appreciate a good play for the opposing team. Case in point, Rivers to Mike Williams for their first TD yesterday. Bills were in the right look, the coverage was good, it's just not many QB's aside from a 15-year vet like Philip Rivers are even gonna attempt that throw and Mike Williams is just a big dude who made the play. It happens. Let 'em work. Watch, observe, look for improvements in certain areas. It's gonna get better.
  23. The calls to fire McBeane continue as if they're frickin' fortune tellers and could see into the future that Vontae Davis wouldn't quit on them. He was signed on a one-year deal to see if he could get back to his earlier form and more likely, to provide a veteran presence in the DB room. Last week he was a healthy scratch and was upset about it. My guess, he missed some major assignments or just flat out played poorly and was told someone else would be taking his place in the second half. He disagreed, got PO'ed and quit. Yeah it's weird but it's clear that the guy didn't have it anymore and I wouldn't have been surprised if he had been cut sometime during the season anyway. Keep crying for constant house cleanings and you'll ensure that this team never becomes a contender. It takes time. It's a complete rebuild. 2018 is about building a young foundation for this team, giving them a season's worth of experience. They're eating dead cap because of deals made by former regimes. For years they've done these "soft rebuilds" or a "reset/recharge" and it kept them stuck in mediocrity. At a certain point, you gotta tear it all down and start over. And you can't fix it all in one season. If you wanna make an omelette, you gotta break a few eggs.
