  1. The expectations some people put on the team this season were astronomical and largely unattainable.

Gabe is doing...alright. I think the ankle slowed him down more than he'd admit. Hopefully it's all good now. It's a bummer to see him drop a catchable ball once a game, but he's still a young player working his way into a bigger role with the offense.

Stats and numbers are only one part of the equation, of course. We have no idea how many times plays have been dialed up for him or whatever.

They're still figuring things out on offense as a whole. First year OC with Dorsey, a new OL coach with an OL that has had to constantly shuffle players due to injury. A third year player (Gabe) trying to take that next step. Dawson Knox's involvement has faded a bit because he's the best all around TE on the roster and has been asked to do a lot more than run routes and catch the ball. Throw in an inconsistent run game (which feels like it's working itself out) and a boatload of injuries and yeah, there are gonna be some bumps in the road.

8-3, though. And the losses only came after they shot themselves in the foot and didn't execute like they know they can. But this team is slogging through some hard times and quite honestly it's a bit of a bummer to see so many folks doggin' them for it. What'd you expect? 20-0 with every win by at least 30?

Hopefully it all comes together down the stretch here.

Yep, and not only for his pass D in the middle.  He helps keep everyone on the same page.

Add Hyde being gone who also helped keep guys assigned right, it puts way too much on the CBs.

Hydes excellent positioning and instincts was a huge plus to the CBs.

Not having Edmunds out there has been huge. He makes such a difference in the middle. I know many expect him to rack up big sack numbers and picks and all the splash plays, but he's just a steady, consistent presence in that defense. He has a quite a few TFLs this season and had been flying around pretty good out there until the injury. I'm in the camp that says pay the man. They've spent five seasons bringing him along and he's still just what, 24, 25? He's also been a captain three seasons running and the QB of the defense since his rookie year. I'd like to see him stick around.

Might be a hot take, but we should’ve resigned Levi Wallace. He’s not the fastest, but he’s superior in coverage to Jackson, Benford and Lewis.

They did offer him a deal and he said he was just about to re-sign with them when he looked down and realized he was wearing black and yellow shorts and this somehow was a sign from the universe that he should sign with Pittsburgh so that's what he did. This is all true.

  4. I've said it before but some folks put absolutely ridonkulous expectations on the players and team as a whole. Then combine that with their willful ignorance of how the other team is also made of professionals and will make plays during the game despite what the Bills do. A play from, I think, Cleveland, comes to mind where they completed a pass for a touchdown with either Dane or Taron in perfect position and playing excellent coverage and it just comes down to a matter of inches and the other player making a good play on the ball.

People go blue in the face debating play calls and coaching decisions. Even if they got their way and the team suddenly had all the players and coaches this person thinks they needed, they'd just find new reasons to get all antsy in their pantsy.

I enjoy discussing and debating the team but these last few weeks on both here and the Bills sub over on Reddit have been kind of a bummer. I checked in on the board yesterday and had you not seen the score from Thursday you would've thought this team had lost and lost bad.

It's been a tough season. They came firing outta the gate and met the crazy expectations for those first few weeks. But stuff happens. The Injury Bug has evolved into the Injury Devil and he is cursing this team and it sucks lol.

I think something that gets lost on some people is the fact that going down a starter on either side of the ball can alter the game plan. If they have to shuffle the OL then Dorsey is up in the booth looking at what they can still run based on the personnel they now have out there. Same on defense. And guys who are backups are backups for a reason. I don't know how anyone can see a player like Von Miller go out then look at Mike Love and say "next man up, don't miss a beat!" Obviously the execution and results aren't going to be as good.

That's not to say there isn't room for improvement. Criticism is fine, it just gets old when it's done to such a degree that, like I said, based on the topics on the board you would've thought they lost on Thursday.

8-3 is great for all they've been through. This last stretch of ten days or whatever has been pretty rough on them so hopefully they can get things back to normal here and we start seeing more players return down the stretch.

I love this team, love the coaches, love the front office. Trust the process and go Bills.

  5. I thought he was alright when he first started out. It was neat to see him basically predict what offenses were gonna run in certain situations.

Beyond that tho, his tendency to overexaggerate mundane things gets pretty irritating. I dunno if his ADHD kicks in or what but he gets a little hyperactive and emphasizes on everything. But most of the talking heads are like that. They're all directed to emphasize and create drama, excitement, spectacle, blah blah blah. It just gets so friggin' old after hearing it for so many years. Mute!

  6. A win is a win. The injuries keep piling up for this team, it's ridiculous. I've never seen such a rash of injuries. Game after game. Sucks.

That said, when they're in there playing with backups that can cause changes in the game plan on both sides of the ball. They had all of two starters playing on the OL, one playing out of position.

Pile that on with the six feet of snow, tons of players having to dig out then get robbed of a home game, then turn around and play on a short week. Always room for improvement but I'll take 8-3. Hopefully they get Tremaine and Groot back soon.

Setting aside the obvious reason of a dome giving our team a major advantage, I just don’t understand the ROI of an open-air stadium.

they could build a stadium similar to Lucas Oil for not much more than they are spending now, and could be in the running for all sorts of other major sporting events (even the Super Bowl), and use it for a host of other events.

I'm with you on the dome. Unfortunately Buffalo isn't likely to host a Super Bowl anytime soon. The city does not meet the requirements for hotels and other accomodations. But besides that, yeah, a dome would mean concerts and other shows year round if they'd want. And they can still play outside, just make it a retractable one.

It's a bummer they don't go with the dome over this odd sense of tradition with weather games. In reality, they get one big snow game once every few seasons. Then there are the super windy games which don't really give an advantage to any team. And then the freezing ones which just make all the contact and the hits hurt even more. Just seems silly to me. Could keep it open in September and October and close it for November thru January.

  8. I know the numbers weren't as good but in 2020 they had to mix it up on defense like halfway thru the season. They became more aggressive, more of an attack style rather than a sit back and let it come to them style which is what they usually do. I'd like to see them be a little more aggressive at times. The front four usually can generate some pressure. They're like notorious for getting within an inch of the QB and he gets rid of it at the last possible second. So frustrating.

But with being more aggressive that can leave them open for big plays and they're all about shutting down the big plays. Or trying to anyway.

Edmunds not being out there is huge. He's a major part of this defense and if I'm Beane I'm finding a way to retain him.

  9. He's likely donezo. Might get a chance to hang on a practice squad somewhere but that's probably it. Dude had like four fumbles in his first 850+ carries in the league, in his next 800 he's had like 25 or something? And this season alone he's coughed it up in the red zone three times, I think six times total all season with two being scooped up and returned for TDs.

Apparently at some point this season he was in the huddle and told a teammate, "I'm gonna fumble, I just know it" and sure enough a few plays later he fumbled. So he's got them mental yips too or whatever.

  10. He's definitely played better than many expected, I'm sure. I was mad for him on that bogus PI call yesterday. It was just good coverage with a great play to knock down the pass. Some dipschnitt ref a mile away calls foul, unknowingly confused by the monstrous bucket of beef farts from the bratwurst demolishing mongoloids in section 139 that has wafted up his snout and clouded his judgement. "Blargh, I'm confused! I can't see! What is happening?! I have no idea but I'm gonna throw my special yellow hanky. I call her Gladys. Fly, my sweet Gladys, fly!! Oh boy oh boy nothing gets Daddy Official's nipples harder than screwing a player out of a great play."

I hate the refs. What were we discussing again?

  11. The weather stuff has always been overrated for me. I'm on #TeamDome but I digress. The elements, bah.

It's funny that the Bills have their road game against Miami early on these last few years. Early 2010s the Phins cried about their schedule because they were routinely playing their road game against the Bills in late December. So then for a while the Phins were playing the Bills before December. Whatever. Stupid Phins. May Tua slip on a rogue floormat.

  12. Roster is built pretty well IMO. There are always going to be areas that teams have to go light on. Just the name of the game sometimes.

Gabe Davis hasn't quite become the guy a lot of us thought he'd be. It's also been evident that they wanted Kumerow more involved on offense but he's been hurt. They signed Crowder, he's been hurt. Shakir has had some moments but they bring the rookies along slowly. They're finally getting Knox going in the pass game more. I just assumed with only Diggs, Davis, McKenzie, and Shakir out there that they'd line up guys like Knox, Cook, and Hines to make up for it.

All that said, if the WR class is another solid group maybe they ought dip into that pool within the first two or three rounds. Allen is the only first round offensive player the McBeane Era has ever drafted. Seems like they don't like using their first rounders on anything but a QB, or all three levels of defense. Just how they prioritize I guess.

  13. I read that after the game Wilson was "walking around like he isn't the problem" and more and more teammates are getting irritated with him. I kinda hate how the Bills made him look mediocre so I hope they slap the crap outta them in a few weeks here.

Saw some Jets fans lamenting the days of Mark Sanchez. If you look at what they've drafted for first round QBs he's been the best of a bad bunch, but if you rank them it'd be Sanchez, Darnold, earlier this season Joe Flacco who threw two of the worst INTs you'll ever see, Zach 'Weenieface' Wilson. Suffer you stupid Jets, suffer!

  14. Never been the biggest fan of Murph. He does alright but he doesn't create the excitement and drama like other broadcasters do. And almost anytime he tries to sound excited his voice goes real high then cracks a bunch.

I like Eric Wood. I think he's doing a pretty good job. I listen to him post game mostly tho.

But usually, I typically watch the games on mute. After years of hearing the talking heads I just can't do it anymore. I can't stand how they have to exaggerate on so many things and act like routine plays or even just decent plays are some sort of amazing act of foosball mastery.  And they have their talking points and things they need to highlight and sometimes they just drone on and on about the same crap. Or they come up with some real obscure stat like, "On all days ending in Y and when Josh Allen wears his favorite Spider-Man jammies and eats four bowls of Count Chocula and then spins a football on his left pinky toe he averages exactly 1.0033 yards per pass!" It's just...meh, I think I'm just burned out from it.

  15. I've been such a fan of the guy since he came into the league. Wanted the Bills to draft him, which they said they were going to but in the 4th and then Seattle snagged him in the 3rd.

But the more I've learned about the dude this season the more he comes off as really disingenuous. He works incredibly hard to uphold and present a very specific image to everyone in everything he does. The things we've heard out of both Denver and Seattle, in regards to his teammates, is that the dude is just a bit much at times. Some Broncos fan posted a video where he highlighted how it appears some of his teammates aren't really on the same page with him. Russ was trying to get the team pumped for the second half but most guys just kinda jogged right past him and gave a little fist bump on their way into the locker room.

It's wild that he's screwing up play calls and audibles when you hear about the wristband stuff lol. Just wear the frickin' thing so you can reference it when needed. It seems like a vanity thing for him. "I have the entire playbook memorized, I don't need the wristband!" Well, you're out there mixing up calls from your old team, maybe ya do need it.
