On a podcast called Moranalytics (hosted by that Patrick Moran guy), Tyler Dunne talked about how he heard Cordy Glenn "checked out" after signing his big contract extension and many in the organization were more than happy to see him go.
I found it kind of interesting because we've never really heard that type of stuff about Glenn. He's always been said to be a quiet guy but a good teammate, somewhat of a leader on the OL. Plus, after he came off that season where he struggled with an illness, he came back for OTAs in the best shape of his life, showing his dedication to the diet and fitness plan given to him by the trainers.
Here's the link for anyone that wants to check it out: http://moranalytics.com/tyler-dunne-bleacher-report-podcast/

No. For the billionth time, Hughes (and Lawson, for that matter) are 100% part of this team for 2018. DL is a huge point of emphasis for this team. They wouldn't go and deal out a nice contract for Lotulelei, who's primary role will be occupying multiple OL to free up the ends and LBs. They intend on making the DL one of the strongest units on the team. Trading away their best pass rusher makes zero sense when that's their plan. Having Murphy to rotate in there should be a good asset and more than likely a step up from Ryan Davis.
Hughes' contract isn't really a cap killer like Dareus' or Glenn's. If they wanted to clear more space they would've dealt Hughes long ago.
-
McBeane place a great deal of emphasis on DL... while Hughes didn't light it up with sacks last season, he was fifth overall in the league in QB pressures. Even if he's not getting to the QB every time, he's disrupting the pocket and forcing the QB to adjust/move/scramble/panic, etc. It's not always about the numbers. Stats are easy to look at and use as a reference point for why this guy is or isn't good but you gotta look beyond the stats and account for things that don't always get noticed right away.
When they signed Murphy, Vic Carucci reported that the signing had no impact on Hughes and Lawson, those guys are firmly in their plans for this coming season. They want the DL to be one of the strongest units on the team. While I understand the cap/money ramifications, trading away one of the best players on the DL (and the team) doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

These threads are conversational and unfortunately DO require some pensiveness to try and understand various arguments. Your uneasiness about the slightest mention that 'race' is also unsettling to me.
Be unsettled all you want, your pointing out of his race has absolutely zero to do with anything in this story. At the very bottom, baseline level of this story, these are the current known facts: Male athlete injures self while destroying window on 30th floor of apartment complex, attempts to jump out of it, restrained by his brother, arrested on charges of property damage.
Does it look like this happened because of a drug-induced psychosis? Yeah, it does. But that's still conjecture until more facts emerge. And yeah, objective journalism still exists. I'm not exactly sure what you meant by your belief that the news is somehow covering for him for "something much bigger" by only reporting the known facts at this time. What's to gain for any news outlet with a story like this? I understand we are living in an age of subjective and sensationalist journalism but a story like this doesn't warrant that type of stuff because what's the point? It's not like the news has any interest in writing stories in such a way that make the Bills look good or somehow "covers" for a player who made some bad decisions and is now dealing with the consequences.

Like I said, in quite a few plays he was heaving the ball up in the air; it wasn't throwing into tight coverage. Watch the 2nd half of the game.
One guy can't carry a team; hence my point. And certainly not Rosen.
I've read comments on Rosen quite a few times that teammates and coaches view him as the type of player that, no matter the circumstance, he's one of those guys that can give his team a chance to win when the game is on the line. That's one of them intangible things. It'd be fun to experience games wherein we had some real, actual faith that the QB is gonna rally and pull off some comeback victories.
And at least he was throwing it up there, giving his guys a chance.

Which is obviously why you need a balanced team. One guy can't do it alone, which is my point.
In the A&M game he was heaving the ball up in the air and his WR's made plays. There was a big element of luck in that game.
Well that'd be a welcome change, wouldn't it? A QB willing to throw into tight coverage and give his WRs at least a chance to make a play.

Lol so you think journalists suddenly remembered their duty to be objective?
Lol so you think every single news outlet in the entire world is wrought with subjective, speculative journalists? Did you count them all?
19 hours ago, Jobot said:"Arrested for property damage" is a convenient headline for the NFL that basically says: "entitled black football player doesn't respect other person's property and is arrested"
Anyone who watched that video knows this is not a 'property damage' case. IMO, I think it's intentional to gloss over the event as simple criminal act when there is clearly something larger at play.WTF does him being black have to do with anything?
And it is a property damage case.... because that's what he was freakin' arrested for... but yes, your theory of independent news outlets intentionally glossing over "something larger at play" is much more plausible because hey, black, entitled, football player. Maybe you read too many tabloid headlines because it sounds like you were expecting to read sh*t like, "FILTHY RICH INSANE LUNATIC ENTITLED BLACK PLAYER OF FOOTBALL HAS MANIACAL DRUG INDUCED MELTDOWN, SMASHES WINDOW, TRIES TO KILL SELF, THIS IS ALL A COVER FOR THE FACT THAT HE IS ACTUALLY A LIZARD PERSON FROM THE PLANET FARTLAX!!!"

Rosen has great field vision and can make all the throws - accurately. He needs to improve his pocket awareness and his concussions scare me.
But he was the only one giving UCLA a chance in games. I'm not impressed with that program at all.
This here... in watching several UCLA games they looked like a poorly coached team overall. The effort from some of his WRs was dismal. Rosen seemed to be one of the only guys working hard to make plays happen. I saw a few plays where his ball placement wasn't great but the ball was catchable with an adjustment from the WR. This WR in question was running a crossing route, the ball was a little bit behind him, receiver saw it but just kept running his route right to the sideline, didn't even make an attempt at catching it. Not every pass is gonna be perfectly on the money but if you get the ball in your receivers range, you'd think they'd at least make an effort to catch it.

*ahem* Josh Allen won't suck in the NFL..... or maybe he will. Check back in 2 or 3 years.

From some tweets/speculation, I've read that Buffalo's offer to move to #2 is #12, #22, #53, #65 and 2019's 2nd round pick. That would leave them with #2 overall, and one pick in the 2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th rounds.

In reading Beane's comments about what he looks for in a franchise QB, it doesn't quite line up with what Mayfield brings to the table. His height is a factor, so he's going to be less consistent with making plays inside the pocket. Beane has stated that all the contenders in the league have QBs that consistently make plays from the pocket. Beane also mentioned size and arm strength (he actually mentioned arm strength a lot when most scouts/executives are coming around to the fact that accuracy is more important that a strong arm). Mayfield's arm looks fine to me, but again, his size. Beane also mentioned Cam and QBs of that size and how they don't have to worry about finding lanes and windows to see through because they can see over the linemen in front of them.
At the same time, a lot of scouts (both those anonymous scout quotes you read and the media guys) have said that if Mayfield was 6'2" he'd be an easy consensus for #1 overall.
I don't mind Mayfield's attitude either. I don't think he's anywhere close to being Manziel v2.0. Manziel was hyped up his whole life, he was "da man" all through high school and college and that stuff inflated his ego. Mayfield was a walk-on who's earned everything he has and if it were me in that situation, sh*t, I'd have some swagger to my personality as well. Who doesn't want a confident QB and team leader? Why wouldn't teammates rally around a guy who isn't intimidated and looks at opponents with the mindset of, "Yeah, we're gonna knock the snot outta these guys." So what if he doesn't 100% embody the character McBeane are looking for? I've said this before, I sincerely hope McBeane and co. do not emphasize character so much so that they pass on a super talented player because of some minor character defects. If you're a good leader and you've built a strong, unified locker room, then you should absolutely have the confidence to draft players that may not fully check the character box because you know your team leaders will be able to take the guy in and familiarize him with the make-up of the team.

Anyone notice all the Major headlines (ESPN.com NFL.com etc.) regarding Zay Jones incident?
They all just state a guy being arrested for property damages... This story is not a 'property damage' story and the article titles are intentionally misleading IMO.
I think it shows how sensitive the NFL still is with any association to mental health issues.
Because "property damage" is the only actual proof we know of in this story. To speculate on the cause of his actions is irresponsible journalism (despite the fact that tons of news outlets speculate all the time).
IMO, Zay strikes me as a level-headed kid with the right type of character/attitude to have a decent career in the NFL. I think the dude has been chasing the pro football dream since he was little and that kept him away from the party scene through high school/college as he held his focus on making it into the NFL. Now that he's in the league, he's probably cutting loose and experimenting with things he's inexperienced with.
There could be some underlying mental health issues but unless you're his doctor, nobody knows for sure.

These nimrods are always looking to make the most attention-grabbing statement. It is pretty lame that he has no idea who Byard is though. And Deion was soft. Wouldn't/couldn't make a tackle to save his life.

The Bills OL absolutely is aging and unathletic. He hit the nail on the head with that one.
Except he said it when they were leading the league in rushing. Dawkins and Groy are younger, John Miller, who should unseat Ducasse for RG this season, is young. Mills is like, 29 or 30... and then there's Richie who's 34 but also happens to be a very good big-bodied athlete. Under Roman's scheme he was constantly pulling and setting the tone in the run game. I just don't see how you can knock an OL that's led the league in rushing for two straight seasons and say the guy is informed.

Why the man got pretty impressive resume
Yeah but he's pretty out of touch with the game and players of the current era. Plus, he has a reputation as a massive pr*ck to work with. Evidently just a miserable guy and his mood would permeate the entire office. People always felt like they were walking on eggshells around him.
This is just a theory of my own but I actually think it was the Pegula's who ultimately decided NOT to hire him as their "football czar" after meeting with him and likely hearing how he would want to run things and also seeing just how out of touch he is with the current era. I say this because since then, he hasn't had the nicest or most informed things to say about the Bills. I think it was just before the 2017 season that he referred to the Bills OL as "aging and unathletic" and this was after they had led the league in rushing in '15 & '16. For the record, I'm not concerned about the media spinning negativity about the Bills, I just kinda feel like maybe Polian was really on board to be "the czar" here and after the Pegula's got to know him a little better they were like, "Eh, thanks but no thanks. You can say that you declined our offer if that makes you feel better."

For every knucklehead saying these moves were crap there are two or three other writers praising the moves, so it's just all subjective. I personally think the moves are fine. McDermott places a huge emphasis on solid DL play and he wants plenty of depth so he can rotate players and keep them fresh. They have Hughes/Murphy, Lawson/Yarborough, Lotulelei/Williams, etc. That's not too shabby right now. Upgrades are needed behind those guys, though (to clarify, I'm talking about the linebackers, not more DL depth although I'm sure they will add several more DL before camp).
That's why this draft is so important. As it stands now they could come away with five picks taken within the first 65 selections (and 6 within the first 95 picks). I think Peter King or Albert Breer wrote yesterday that they've heard from numerous teams/sources that all 32 teams have, on average, about 70 players rated as starters coming out in this draft. They can fill a lot of spots with picks 12, 22, 53, 56 and 65.
So do they decide to make the jump or do they use this draft to add five potential starters and let McCarron take the reins for 2018? If they can swing a trade with NYG, I hope it's one that still leaves them with at least one pick in rounds 1-4 for this year.
April 26th needs to hurry it up and get here. That whole weekend is a football/Marvel fans dream, the draft plus Infinity War. I might take a few days off the ol' job and turn it into a nice little 4 or 5 day weekend.

But can you really see this administration come away without drafting a QB after planning to do so for nearly 1 year? I can see them throwing their hands up in the air and saying “oh well, we tried.” I really hope it doesn’t happen because it’s that type of “kick the QB can down the road” mentality that got the franchise into QB purgatory for years. This team need a QB
Fair points. I'm pretty certain they'll draft a QB but is it gonna be the #1 QB on their board, ya know? Right now, if they wanna get the guy they think is their franchise guy they're gonna have to get real creative with a trade package to either NYG or Cleveland at #4. If they get up to #2, they're virtually guaranteed to get their guy, unless their guy is Sam Darnold. At #4 they're looking at who's there after Cleveland and NYJ make their picks. Just don't think they're gonna pull a Ditka and give up a massive amount of draft capital. They're in a unique spot. I wouldn't say they're fully rebuilding, but moreso reshaping this team. As it stands, they have enough talent now to make the playoffs so they obviously wanna keep that train rolling and they have a great opportunity to add up to six potential starters with two firsts, two seconds and two thirds. That's tempting to a team that has a primary focus of building thru the draft.
But on the flip side, as you said, can they kick the can down the road on the QB?
I kinda just wanna drive to East Rutherford and slug that smug Maccagnan right in the chops. I do wonder if the Colts had both the Jets and Bills bidding for the #3 pick and it'd be great to know if Beane kept throwing more chips in the pile in order to get the Jets to give up what they did. But who knows.
-
This group (Team McBeane) is very dedicated to their plan to mainly build this team thru the draft. They also know they need their QB. As Domdab said, not just "a QB" but the QB they see as their franchise guy. At this point it seems like the best chance to lock up their QB is to get to #2 overall...which is gonna cost a bunch and I just can't see them selling out like that. Sure, maybe they do and they walk away with their QB but after that they have to sit on their hands until at least the third round, say adios to their 2019 first rounder and maybe a third rounder from '19 as well. So it's gonna come down to, "Do we pass up on the chance of taking six players within the first 93 selections? Or do we go for broke and grab our QB and worry about the consequences after?" The latter just doesn't seem like the McBeane method.
And I gotta believe that they called the Giants about #2 with an offer of picks and Glenn with how badly the Giants need OL help. But evidently it wasn't enough and instead they got the Bengals to agree on a trade to get to 12. Now how do they do what Philly did in '16 and complete the two-step trade up? Gonna be tough after the Jets went for broke today. Leave it to those green jagweeds to screw everything up. Friggin turds.

There is no benefit whatsoever to them implying they may want to move on from them. That vote of confidence is equal to the vote of confidence for TT. Could be, but there is reason to believe otherwise. Shaq was reportedly in McD doghouse at some point last season and failed to be available down the stretch.
Either way, McD is big on having plenty of DL for his rotations. DL is a major point of emphasis for this team going forward. Trading away one or both of your top two DEs doesn't make a whole lot of sense especially after they just went and paid good money for a big, space-eating DT that should help DEs get more 1-on-1 opportunities.
-
Hughes and Lawson aren't going anywhere. McBeane want as much DE depth as possible. Vic Carucci reported earlier this week that the recent DE signings by Buffalo have no implications on 55 & 90, both players are firmly in their plans for 2018.

Wasn't that "huge trade news" posted by someone here on the board?
People have been speculating/trying to push the idea that McBeane are trying to trade Lawson/Hughes but Sal C reported yesterday that the signings of Murphy and Owa Odighizuwa have no implications on 90 & 55. Both guys are firmly in their plans for 2018.

Browns would be nuts to draft a RB after giving Hyde 3yrs/ 15m
I see them taking Darnold at 1
Giants go Barkley or Rosen at 2 if its the RB then the Colts trade happens if its QB the Colts stay put
Colts trade out of 3 with the Bills for 12,21 next years 2 and Hughes or they take Barkley if G men go Rosen
Bills now trade to 4 with the Browns for 12/21 their own 3rd back and our 2019 2nd
In conjunction with the signings of Trent Murphy and Owa Odighizuwa, I think Sal C said he had a source tell him that those signings have no bearing on Hughes or Lawson, they're both here to stay.
