The root source of D problems is the D Line
LABILLBACKER replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
As the title of this thread says, "the root source of the D's problems is the D-line. Your LB's and dbs always look better when there's pressure. Sean & Brandon unfortunately have failed to find an elite pass rusher. There hasn't been a game wrecker since Josh was drafted. All we have is a bunch of under performing Jags that make up Sean's defensive scheme. The problem is you can't run a zone scheme against superior teams with very good veteran qbs. And if you fail to pressure these qbs, you'll see what we witnessed in LA. I guarantee you Johnson does the same thing McVay did. In the playoffs qbs like Mahomes/Burrow can easily carve up this zone w/o front 4 pressure. Groot 6.5 sacks (3 week 1) AJE 5 and Von 4. I'm sorry but when your top 3 DE's are averaging 5 sacks this late in the season you're DL is struggling big time. -
No matter how magical Josh looks, McDermott will somehow screw it up. I've said this from the day we blew a 16-0 lead in the 2019 Houston playoff game. And since that day he's done nothing but validate that feeling.

Week 15, Bills v. Lions, PREDICT THE SCORE!
LABILLBACKER replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nobody .500 or better is good for us to play. Josh will put up points as usual and Sean's defense will get shredded as usual. Lions 49 Bills 42 Don't hold your breath -
Agree...we should be splitting time 50/50 right now between Dorian and Matt. Milano still has 4 more games to get up to speed. Williams can still stop the run and Gibbs/Montgomery are going to be a problem.

The root source of D problems is the D Line

Well stated start to finish. Our blitz most of this year has been bad. Against the Rams it was awful. More stunts and deception are absolutely mandatory. The blitzes are strategically poor and very predictable as the Rams were able to easily clog with 5 olineman. Absolutely love the idea of Groot & Von on the left side. But we still need a better A gap push from Ed and the DT rotational circus. AJE is basically worthless and isn't even worthy of discussion. I'm not spending 5 cents resigning him. Start developing Solomon on the right side and keep drafting. Lastly more man coverage has to be implemented. I know our dbs are trained to play zone 80% of the time but unless our pass rush immediately improves, this is not sustainable. You don't think St. Brown can't sit down in our zone like Nacua did? -
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that saw this analogy by Cowherd this morning. Mark Jackson had Warrior players like Curry & Klay but failed to do anything with them. Kerr comes in and championships start. We desperately need a smarter game day coach and McDermott isn't it. All this fluff about culture & process doesn't translate to split second decisions late in games that Sean is clearly incapable of making.

Where was the defensive adjustment on Puka Nakua?

Good Lord...I actually finally agree with you. Unfortunately Elam is our only man specialist. It would be like changing from 4-3 to 3-4. Our dbs are brainwashed into Sean's zone. -

Exactly, you throw the ball 4 straight times with a built in option for Josh to run if there's a gap. We were already stopped earlier in this game on a tush push. So what does McBrady do?...tush push miss, panic and burn timeout, then game basically over. 5% chance recovering onside kick.... 3% chance of returning punt 100 yards.... 20% chance to force a 3 & out with 1:00 left. -

When is Pegula going to learn from all the mistakes McDermott doesn’t learn from. -
He's an alien...a cyborg...and soon to be our Superman MVP.

This is just a means for him to guarantee Stephen a HC job. If I'm UNC I'm probably passing on him and this list of pretty aggressive demands. We'll see?

An absolute disaster by the coaches at the end of this game

All he had to do is walk out on the field and tell his kicker/ST to squib it to the 5. Game over....this incessant protecting Sean is getting old. If you can't see his constant mistakes, I can't help you. Some people will follow McD to the bitter end. I'm not one of them... -

We don't have 20 years to watch McD do what Andy did. Josh is almost 29. So what "course" Sean is taking in eliminating his game stupidity, he better take the test and pass it very soon. Because when the playoffs start and things get amplified, he either wets his pants and panics or finally figures it out. -

There's that battle cry again. Someone explain to some of our fans that we rarely learn from these mistakes nor do we fix them. They just continue to happen over & over. -

I agree totally with your theory but unfortunately they never fix it anymore than Sean does. -

The mistakes of 13s still exist regardless of who wins the flip. That game had no business ever going to OT. -
Fire McD and Hire Belichek after we lose AGAIN in the playoffs
LABILLBACKER replied to JPL7's topic in The Stadium Wall
We're never going to win close playoff games with a HC making this many terrible decisions. It's just not sustainable, even with Superman on your team. It's like one cancels out the other. McDermott panics and that's why he has notoriously throughout his career called stupid timeouts in stupid situations. He's not a strategist, he's reactionary. He relys on Josh to score 30+ every week to mask his weak D. Cowherd and Wright just spent 10 minutes discussing McDermott's historical mistakes using the Jackson/Kerr comparison. A new face can make a world of difference. -

Like Cowherd said this morning discussing McDermott, Mark Jackson had Curry & Klay and couldn't win. Steve Kerr comes in and wins multiple championships. If Ben Johnson can make Goff (who McVey dumped) look this good, imagine what he could do with Josh. -

See the big picture. It's not about 10-3. Don't be "regular season" guy. It's about losing every year in the division round. It's about going to a SB, not settling for your yearly reg season faux Lombardi. It's about replacing a really nice guy who constantly makes stupid game day mistakes. But the #1 reason to consider moving on from McD is he's wasting the greatest qb I've ever seen play. -

Sorry but I'm contacting Ben Johnson first before I even consider Bill. BJ would jump on the Bills job in a millisecond. -
Did Josh like the call at the goal line?
LABILLBACKER replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
McDermott wouldn't know the difference between the options if it bit him in the ass.
