Don't understand why Reilly is not promoted but I guess Brown is about as good as you would expect to get when pulling off the scrap pile at this point in season.

But I thought New England has better Buffalo players than Buffalo does.

I do like their young coach and how their offense has drastically improved from last year. Of course they have added talent to the offense but I like all the different formations, motions and jet sweeps. Our offense looks completely basic compared to what the Rams were running last night. But again, the Rams ahave more play makers than what the Bills have right now so that makes a difference.

This is comical how many ex-Bills players are making plays tonight. Good thing we get to play the Jets twice as they may be are only wins.

Good point. I think Tate could be a decent player for misdirection sweeps and reverses. Many offenses run theses types of plays, especially when you have a mobile QB. Even the threat of a jet sweep may hold defenders for a split second giving Mccoy a little more space. There is nothing innovative and the offense being run seems to be like one a team would operate in the preseason.

The pick will likely be near the bottom of the 1st round but that is okay. This past year we were able to get Tre White in that spot and if we can find another player like him it will add to our team going forward.

Williams was clearly a better runner than Tolbert and barnyard. Anyone with eyes who watched the games could see this. By all reports, Williams had an excellent training camp. john Murphy, picked Williams as his training camp standout. He was constantly the first rb in to relieve MCCoy and play with the one and twos. If Banyard was that good, why the heck did he not play more with the ones and twos. The move is baffling but does explain why Williams continued to play in the second half of the 4th preseason game. If this was the only questionable move, I may agree with the just relax mentality. keeping Ducasse and possibly starting him over Miller is disturbing. Having kept Holmes and Brown (now cut) over Reilly seemed odd for what they preach (hard work, earn it, make plays when given opportunity). We don't seem to be getting much value back in the trades being made, except for the Darby deal. I was all in with this group but it is completely fair to question what their plan is at this point. They preached trying to win this year, signed a bunch of veteran players but then started trading and giving away many of our younger more talented players. So which is it, do you want to try and win this year or do you want to tank? They still have shady and tyrod. They brought back Williams and alexander. Dareus is still around. This team does not have the depth or talent to compete for the playoffs anymore, so why middle it? Just be honest like the jets and go all the way.

This had me laughing. Unfortunately, it is the truth.

Not long enough for the Bills, he is going to be a core player that we need to build around for years to come.

Good thing we have a few extra picks next year, because McBeane will need them to fill all the holes they are leaving.

I expect to hear that Ducasse has received an extension.

Reilly just made plays with the opportunities he was given. His 40 time is good and he was able to gain separation as well as have the body control to adjust to balls thrown his way. I have seen next to nothing from Holmes and Brown this summer and would have expected one of them to go. I am not sure what these guys are watching but it is the same people who think Ducasse is as good as Miller. This concerns me as I have had high hopes for this new regime.

I'm shocked that Reilly did not make the 53. As stated, he made some incredibly difficult catches. But what do I know, this coaching staff believes in Ducasse and Yates.

I don't think it would be a good fit. Reilly is not the quick twitch type of player you would want as a returner. He is smooth and more of a strider and I don't think that matches up well with a punt returner.

Reilly has caught everything thrown his way. He has not been afraid to go up and snatch a ball in traffic with two hands and take the hit. A lot of guys will go up with one hand trying to protect themselves and end up tipping the ball up for an interception. He has demonstrated excellent body control when adjusting to balls thrown his way. They have not all been perfectly placed and he has had to make many adjustments. He also has some nice speed and decent size. I have been impressed and would be disappointed if he did not make the 53. The other FA wr (shorts) has been impressive as well (good hands and shows ability to gain separation) but I would have to take Reilly over him because I could see wr89 getting down the field more and making big chunk plays (which is something we will need).

Dareus is clearly one of the most talented players on the Bills roster. But the Bills are not looking to accumulate talent but rather build a very good team. I like Dareus as a talent, but I don't like him as a teammate and leader. Beane will need to evaluate what the Bills can expect to get from Dareus moving forward. Do we ever expect to see the 2014 version of Dareus? The DT playing hard for a mega contract. Some guys don't have the mental makeup to handle getting paid big dollars. They get lazy and rest on their past production. If we get the 2015 and 2016 versions of Dareus, is that player really worth having on the team. A guy that can be suspended at anytime or have a number of soft tissue injuries that could be prevented by being more committed to his conditioning and diet. We all know Darues has mega talent, but if he is not willing to maximize the talent then what good is it. Hopefully, he gets on board but if not then Beane will have no choice but to move on from him.

If we run a bunch of timing plays and short drops from within the pocket, this is the Tyrod Taylor we will see during the season. But if they have him take some deeper drops, roll outs and add some zone reads I think he will be just fine. And can we please just put Miller in at guard.

Good write up. I would caution not to make too many conclusions about this HC and GM yet. It is very early in the process and I don't think we have had enough time to fully see how they like to operate. For example, we traded down with KC for extra picks (like patriots) but followed that up by giving up picks to trade up in 2nd and 3rd (not like patriots). But I do agree that they have a plan and vision for this team and it will definitely be more about "team" than individual talent. I like the Darby trade but the Watkins trade left me wanting more. Maybe if we had picked up his 5th year option he would have been more appealing to teams in a trade because there would have been 2 years of acceptable salary before the mega dollars kicked in. We were trading Watkins from one of his lowest value points and that is usually not a good thing.

The Darby trade seems okay, but Watkins for a 6th round draft pick who has had a Lisfranc injury for Watkins does not feel right. If we wanted to trade Watkins, I feel like we could have gotten a better player or more draft picks for him. Timing of trade is odd as we traded Sammy at a point in which his value was lowest. Probably should have waited.

I like what the Sabres have done with their GM and HC but I love what the Bills have done at GM/HC. The Bills finally hired young, smart, detail-oriented quality people for the positions of GM an HC. I always liked Whaley's ability to identify talent but really see now that he lacked an overall vision, organizational goal and ability to manage and improve all aspects of the organization. Things have changed dramatically since MC was hired. Everything has been re-evaluated from training camp, practice format, rookie orientation etc. I get the sense that analytics and managing contracts will be more important and that the team will be able to outsmart and stay ahead of many other teams. The contrast between Beane/MC and Whaley/Ryan cannot be any further apart. And I believe HC and organizational structure/culture is right up there with the QB position. If you don't have the right HC and organizational structure it is very difficult to win and almost impossible to have sustained success. I believe strongly the Bills are in very good hands with the GM/HC and we are better at the QB position than most people think. The Bills will surprise many this year with how well they play and by 2018 the Bills should be a contender in the AFC.

Up and coming qb but Carr still has much more to prove. 25m per year is a little much but it won't be long before 30m is the standard for top level qbs. Taylor's contract looks to be a bargain right now.

Tyrod and the offense were solid last year, especially considering all the injuries at wr last year. If you throw out the last game of the year when Manuel played, Bills averaged 25.93 points a game which put them 7th in the NFL in scoring. Take out the week one stinker at Baltimore and the Bills offense averaged 27.29 per game from week 2 thru week 16. During that portion of the schedule the Bills were 4th in scoring in the NFL. Taylor is a playmaker and the Bills can score with the top teams in the NFL with him at qb. The offense should be even more productive this year with the Shanahan/Kubiak scheme.

Excellent article. To me, Taylor is the most important piece to the Bills running game. As far as quarterbacks, Tyrod's running skills are the best in the NFL because of his combination of speed, instincts and agility. He has a skill set similar to what you would see from a slot wr or third down rb. Pair that with his ability to make NFL throws (especially deep balls) and TT is a headache for defensive coordinators. Defenses game plan to stop Taylor on the ground and when he is left uncovered it is often a mistake on the defenders part and not by design.

Interesting stuff. Always appreciate the time and effort behind running numbers. However, I am a little skeptical of any stats showing Culpepper and Vick in the same elite category as Rodgers and Brady. Or David Garrard having a higher number than Ben Roethlisberger. One more oddity that stands out is David Carr being higher than Derek Carr. Where is Peyton Manning scored?

Totally agree. No way was Orton a better qb that Taylor. Taylor creates way more explosive plays and he still does an excellent job of protecting the football.
