What happened to Derek Carr?
racketmaster replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Carr has had 1 really good year (actually 12 games) out of 4 years. Maybe last year was the outlier. Still a solid player but I never believed the hype that he was an elite qb. -
Tyrod Trade Value This Offseason
racketmaster replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My guess is at least a 6th or 7th round pick. Cassels was traded for a 7th not too long ago. It could get higher in the right circumstances or if there are 2 teams interested. In ideal circumstances, Bradford went for a 1st and I believe a 4th but the timing of the trade was great for the eagles. Tyrod’s contract is reasonable for a bridge starter and if a qb were to go down in training camp or spring workouts on a decent team his price in terms of draft picks could definitely go up. -
I believe Whaley is a good evaluator of talent. Looking bad, I think he had some issues seeing the overall big picture and managing/allocating cap dollars. We have definitely had worse gms, but he did have some significant flaws. I don’t care too much about his lack of public speaking but he did get dogged for that as well.

What (do you think) Peterman's stats are this week?
racketmaster replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
287 yards 2tds and 2ints. And hopefully a win. -
This is why Tyrod was benched
racketmaster replied to essential's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like TT and think his overall skill set makes him a solid NFL starter. That means he will look good some games and not so good other games like all average qbs do. He is also a classy player and hard worker. Wherever he winds up I will root for him like I do Fitz. As long as he is not playing the Bills. Timing of the move move is very odd. I like what I have seen from Peterman and he does not at all look like a 5th round scrub qb. That said, this league has a way of chewing up qbs and spitting them out. It will be nice to see what he has before the draft. -
Anyone watch tyrods post game?
racketmaster replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TT did not play well today but we cannot win with this type of defense. They are getting exposed and without turnovers they cannot stop anybody. They are reminding me of the Ryan bros. Defense as the tackling has been awful and there are too few players getting to the ball. And when the offense begins to match the level of play of the defense we get results like today. TT was awful with his check downs on third and longs but WRs had some key drops and we are failing to run the ball effectively. If we don’t run the ball well our offense will likely struggle. I have not been impressed by the coaching staff. We have a 32 year old rb who is out of shape and is our primary backup. He should not be in the field especially in passing situations. All the emphasis on special teams mean nothing when your defense can’t get off the field and your offense cannot stay on it. -
ESPN: Predicting Every NFL Team's 2020 QB
racketmaster replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bradford?? Will he even be in the league in 2020? He has been average at best and injury prone. But he is not Taylor so that will make some folks happy. -
Tyrod is a top 15 qb that can get us to the playoffs. He was already solid but has improved this year in certain aspects of his game. He has used the middle of the field, shown more patience and field awareness. He was one of the few players that showed up on Thursday night as we were dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Handoff to Tolbert. Pass out to tolbert
racketmaster replied to The juice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tolbert is out there for speed. Lol -
And even though I believe you can win with Taylor, the Bills should still be looking to draft another qb next year or the year after. You can never have enough depth due to injuries, contract situations etc., especially at the most critical position. But having Taylor just means the Bills don't have to force the issue and give up a ton of picks to acquire a qb prospect. They can afford to let a qb they like fall to them and then develop them in their system.
-
I like Taylor and think he might be a slight upgrade over Alex Smith. With the right team and coaching, the Bills could win a bunch of games with Taylor at qb (just like Kansas City). I also think it is possible to get to the Super Bowl with Taylor and maybe even win it. He is not an elite qb that will have your team in contention no matter the supporting cast but it is possible to win it all with Taylor at quarterback. If Eli Manning can win 2 Super Bowls then it is possible Taylor could win 1. Joe Flacco won a Super Bowl and Colin Kaepernick was a few plays away from winning one. So with the right coaching, supporting cast and a little bit of luck and it is possible Taylor could find his way to getting a ring.

Its almost comical to me that the players are so offended by the poorly timed analogy used by McNair but they plan on continuing to kneel during the anthem and offend millions of Americans who have served. Again, they only see themselves as victims and are not stepping back to take a deep breath. Maybe they could do something else to bring attention to their cause without offending a significant amount of their fans who pay their salaries.
-
Yeah, it seems like the players are letting their egos cloud their judgment a little. Some of their actions and statements make it seem less about racial inequities and more about the players just not wanting to be told what to do. They are starting to think of themselves as partners and on an equal level with the owners as far as how the league should be run. I believe the players should be heard and have a voice but like in any business the dude who pays the checks should have the final say on things. And if the employee does not like it they can always find another career.

I am a huge football fan and when I tune in to watch a football game that is what I want to see. I want to be entertained and I dont want to be lectured and shown a bunch of propaganda. When I go see a band play I want to hear them play music, not spend time talking politics. I know not everyone feels this way but sports is my time to be entertained and get away from serious discussions for a few hours. The players are starting to ruin the experience and the media also shares a significant amount of blame because they cant get enough of this extracurricular drama.
-
Probably a poor choice of words, especially the timing and considering the issue at hand. But come on people, have a thicker skin. It is like people just are looking for ways to be offended out there and then making a much bigger issue about it. I have heard that saying numerous times over my life and never identified it as being racial. Again, not the best analogy to use in that situation but he apologized to Vincent after the meeting and well before this was made public. Yet players want to crucify him for it and seem his apology insincere. How often do the players say and do stupid things that the owners end up defending or being supportive. It is also a generational issue as young people today seem to be more sensitive than previous generations.

Are the Bills Oppressing Anquan Boldin?
racketmaster replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has nothing to do with oppression. Boldin signed a contract and was well compensated for the 2 weeks here was here. He freely chose to sign contract and freely chose to walk away. Within weeks of walking away we were already hearing rumors that Boldin wanted back in the NFL. If Bills just let him walk and he signed with the Patriots it would make Bills look bad. If he wanted to go back to Cardinals, I believe Bills would probably end up waiving compensation. I just think Bills have some vested interest in where he might play and they are being smart. -
Its funny to see the responses to this (not me as my outlandish criticism is completely justified). Tyrod is actually 18-16 as a starter for the Bills. Let that sink in for a moment. A team that has had poor culture, rash of injuries to key players, no recent history of success and poor coaching under Rex and Tyrod is 2 games above .500. Yet you see all the comments that he is a crappy qb. Stop and think, if he were a crappy qb, his record would reflect that. But JP, Trent and Fitz were also criticized. Yes they were and rightfully so. JP was awful and was in fact a crappy qb. Trent started out well but was spooked once he got concussed and he saw ghosts in the pocket ever after. And Fitz was fun but committed way too many turnovers. Those guys could not win games for us. Taylor is better than each of them yet gets just as much criticism or more. Again, Taylor deserves criticism just be reasonable. Too many posts go way overboard and use extreme exaggerations like he is not an NFL qb (look around the league over the past few years).
-
If we are all to be honest, Taylor has been held to a higher standard in part because he is black. I think because he was an unheralded 6th round pick also causes many people to simply dismiss him as a qb. But since Taylor was named the starter there has been a segment of fans who are relentless in their criticism of this guy. And Taylor is certainly not perfect and deserves fair criticism for his play but there have been way too many gross exaggerations about his ability and performance not to think there is a little more going on.

Ex-Bills WR's vs. All Current Bills Receivers
racketmaster replied to Kaenon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like it or not WR talent does matter. Tyrod shares some of the blame for the anemic passing attack but so does the not so talented wr corps. This group was not very talented to begin with and we have already lost Matthews and Clay. It would be challenging for the best QBs in the league to produce with this wr group. Take away Davante Adams and Jordy Nelson and you will notice a difference in the GB passing attack. We have seen that taking out Edelman and Gronk makes Brady look human. Eli Manning looked even more terrible without OBJ and we will see that again. Conversely, Goff is surrounded with a talented group of wrs as well as a smart OC and he looks much improved from last year. Better and more explosive weapons have been put around Alex Smith and he has elevated his game to a new level. Is Tyrod a good passing QB, not really. He can be decent and with the right talent he can be explosive with his downfield throws. Probably his best asset as a passer is his deep throws and we have no deep threat wr. They either lack size, speed, catch radius, and/or the ability to track the ball. So we are reduced to a short passing attack which is really not his forte. And our wrs offer almost no elusiveness after the catch, if they do catch it. I don't see much changing and defenses realize there is no real threat downfield so they can focus on stopping our running game. And our new OC uses Tyrod more like a traditional passer instead of taking advantage of his running skills like the previous coordinators. Maybe they use the bye week to rethink things and come out with a better plan, but there really is only so much an OC can do with the limited weapons outside. -
The sooner Dareus is gone the better. Tired of all the drama surrounding him as his play on the field no longer warrants the headache he creates. I have no problem with Glenn being released as well. He is overpaid and the injuries are piling up. I doubt we would get any compensation for either player because their salaries don't match their production.

Fire Rico Now; be done with it.
racketmaster replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well thought out post. Bills wont cut bait with Rico anytime this season but they should. Rico is now the Rex of the offense. Castillo was hired by McDermott before an OC was selected. That decision certainly gives me pause about what kind of hc McDermott will be. Castillo has a love affair with Ducasse and it is absolutely absurd how they have ruined a potent running game. -
[closed]What happened to John Miller?
racketmaster replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why not build around more journeyman veteran players like Ducasse? It makes no sense. Our offense is starting to resemble what happened to our defense under Rex. Offense has been a top 10 offense the past 2 years and the number 1 rushing team by far. Players that were productive like Miller are now seen as problems in favor of other like Ducasse. We lost all play makers on the outside by trading or not resigning them. In return, we bring in Holmes, Klay, Philly Brown, and a 2nd round draft pick in Jones. We did get Matthews who I think is a sold #2 wr but he has been mostly injured since coming here. Tolbert is another nice veteran but I would much rather have a more explosive back like Gillislee or Jonathan Williams that could break some longer runs as was the case the previous 2 years. It started in the preseason with a system (a bunch of short passes with 3 step drops) that did not fit the skill set of the QB (the most important position on any team). That was our first clue that the offensive staff is more interested in their system than coaching the talent they have. The emphasis on special teams is extreme and if that much emphasis is being put on ST then we need to start locating the ball and downing it before letting punts bounce into the end zone. The necessary special teams players need to actually look different and make a difference. Miller is just an example of what has happened on the offensive side of the ball. This staff has taken an explosive offense that could put up points in bunches and made it a conservative offense that has trouble scoring more than a touchdown in a game. They have taken the number 1 rushing offense and managed to make us a middling rushing team. And favoring players like Ducasse over more productive younger players like Miller is a big reason why. -
This wr corps is pathetic. Bills lack playmakers at the position and Tyrod needs help like most NFL qbs do. Watching guys like Holmes and Klay play significant minutes this year tells you everything you need to know about this group. That said, Tyrod needs to play better for this offense to be successful.

Wonder what this MMQB tidbit means...
racketmaster replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But the guys on the radio tell us we should not be concerned about turnovers and our qb needs to risk more ints in order to make more plays.
