  1. I mean...Levitre, Byrd, Wood, Aaron Williams, Dareus, Glenn, Gilmore, Woods, Alonso, Watkins, Darby, Ragland, and Lawson all seem like pretty good picks to me. But sure, we never hit on 1st or 2nd round picks. And before you say it: whether or not the Bills re-signed guys after their rookie contract does not have any bearing on whether or not they're good players. We let Byrd, Levitre, Gilmore, and Alonso go elsewhere, yes, but it doesn't mean they're bad players or were bad picks. I've said this before: The Bills are NOT terrible at drafting. They're about average. Some fans seem to think you should get 4-5 starting caliber players out of every draft, and that's just not reality. If you get two starters and a rotational guy each draft, you're batting about league average. By that measure, the Bills are average drafters. No better, no worse.
  2. The problem is that many fans simply haven't updated their thinking about QB pay in the past few years. As the cap has risen steadily and as the league continues to suffer a dearth of quality quarterback play, the position simply isn't paid on the same scale as any other position. It is going to become increasingly clear this season and moving forward that to have even an AVERAGE QB, you have to pay him $15mil+/year. Unfortunately, many fans don't seem to grasp this. They don't seem to grasp that it's not 2013 any more. The only way to have a quality quarterback and NOT pay him that much is to draft one and get 5 years of cheap labor. So unless the Bills plan on drafting a QB high and starting him right away or playing Cardale and tanking, they pretty much HAVE to pay Tyrod. What realistic alternative is there?
  3. Good post. Looking at the Bills defensive roster as currently constructed, it seems the biggest needs are as follows: Will LB, CB2, FS. Yes, we could use depth on the d-line and an upgrade over Preston Brown in the linebacking corps. But I view those more as "wants" than "needs. The NEEDS are as listed above. Luckily for Buffalo, this is one of the best and deepest drafts at CB and safety in many years. While I think Malik Hooker would be the perfect FS for this defense, the depth at the safety and corner positions will allow the Bills to get quality players at those positions into the 2nd and 3rd rounds. For that reason, it makes most sense to me to use the #10 pick on Reuben Foster if he's there, or on a WR if Foster's gone. I like the defense's chances to rebound this year and once again rank at least top 15 if not top 10.
  4. I'm excited to see Washington in McDermott's defense. Short term, he will be a good 2nd wave player. Long term, I see him as Kyle's replacement (as if anyone could replace Meatball!)
  5. I wonder if this means we're gonna miss out on all those great KellyToReed83TD threads about how awful Tyrod Taylor is.
