Preston Brown "There's some weird stuff going on up there."

And was always criticized for making them after guys had picked up 5 yards, right? -

That was a mistake. -

I don't think so. You said another poster did. I recognize we have some older guys, and said that you will see them replaced over the next year or two with younger talent. Right now we are older and not playing well. But you have young talent at key positions such as QB, LT, MLB, S, CB as a solid nucleus to build on. -

I can't answer for other teams. You are somehow equating age and talent. The Bills future depends on drafting really good talent and identifying key FA additions. Emphasis on the draft. If my 25 year old is way better than your 22 year old, does it matter that he's 3 years older? -

They have some vets to guide younger guys. Vets like Kyle and Zo and Shady. In the next year or two some if not all of those guys will be gone as they bring in you get talent. Now they may bring some vets in then too for experience. But by then guys like Allen and White will be your leaders. -

I think Edmunds will ultimately be better. By a lot. Maybe Brown could have gone to OLB -

Right. It's simple. You're saying if those guys were not traded/let go and kept on those contracts it would have cost X leaving Y to spend on about 50 other players. Now , could you have restructured some contracts, etc? Sure. But of course Whaley was criticized for that very thing. And it would assume the players would have been amenable to such. It it is simple. The current regime simply did not think some of these guys were good enough to merit the big bucks, and said good bye. I don't necessarily agree with each move but that's the plan. And looking at the roster now you have some young talent to groom and rely on in critical positions.0 -

The single biggest reason the offense has dropped off is the play of the O line. That is clear to anyone. Brown. He was a FA demanding a big multiyear deal. They determined he ultimately wasn't the answer. And it's not like he would have signed a 1 year deal to keep the seat warm for Edmunds. -

Yes they did. Yes they had reasons. Which you don't like. And if they had done the opposite you'd complain they are paying guys too much money for player x. -

Some here need to go back the last several years and read posts about Brown. McD needs a versatile MLB in his D. He got one who needs to learn more. -

Good summary of the math. May go over some heads though. -

So what? The kid unfortunately will likely screw up again and Belichick will show him the door -

But enoughbto warrant the money? People have selectively short memories but Brown would get blasted routinely around here for making tackles 5-10 yards from scrimmage and not having the ability to cover. Edmunds has freakish athletic ability. And like Allen he's getting thrown in the deep end of the pool. Yet he isn't even given a chance by some to tread water let alone swim. -
[Edited Title] Tremaine Edmunds looks Lost
oldmanfan replied to *******'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ahem. Tredavius White. Dawkins. Starting CB and LT. Zay Jones. Starting WR. Josh Allen. Starting QB Edmunds. Starting MLB Phillips. Three man DT rotation. Johnson. Starting slot CB. All young, all starting, all learning, all should improve. Since Edmunds is being focused on, let me ask a question. On the second full day you had on your job (after your training sessions analogous to Edmunds preseason) were you perfect. Were you as good at your job that second day as you are now? Or did you improve as you gained experience? Be honest. -

Money. Talent. They did not see Brown as being good enough at MLB. Would have cost the millions to resign him. -

What Davis did was cowardly. As for Brown, he likely would have made more plays yesterday vs. a rookie in his second game. A year from now? Edmunds will do things Brown couldn't do ever. -
Brandon Bean failed to provide Josh Allen a mentor
oldmanfan replied to GrizzReaper's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The one I would say would stunt his growth is Cutler. A young QB does not need that kind of personality around him. At any rate, Beane and McD are very consistent in their thought process, and very careful what they say in public. One of the things they say is they are constantly looking for ways to improve the team. So they churn the roster up, and I for one hope that includes a more veteran backup QB. -

LaCanfora yesterday said they are looking at options. Given it's LaCanfora it probably means they aren't. But they should be. Mybe some guys like Moore just are done and don't want the hassle. -
What happened with Cleveland? They got a lot of guys. Free agents go to teams for different reasons. Most for money, some to say play with a young up and coming QB? Regardless, my read on Beane and McD with regard to FA is that they will use the cap dollars they have to build in multiple areas, and not try to make just 2-3 huge signings. Similar to the Hyde/Poyer type guys. If they spend big, it might be on an OT or perhaps an edge rusher. But I see maybe a half dozen or more free solid signings as opposed to the big splash types. For the glamour positions, they'll build through the draft. And if you look at the last two drafts you see a QB, MLB, CB, LT' slot CB, return guy/slot WR. And please don'ts tart with the stuff about failures, etc. based on 1-2 games with the QB and MLB. They have gotten rid of guys that were cap problems and/or not earning their salary under the cap. Doesn't mean they get off the hook for the atrocious two first halfs these first two games. But we'll see.

Players choosing to retire from Bills

Eric Wood retired because he was told if he didn't he risked permanent paralysis. What are you talking about? Oops, misread. Never mind.
