Has officiating ever NOT been a problem?
4_kidd_4 replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More cameras, super slow replays etc all contribute to “over officiating”. Everything is under a microscope. There’s always been bad calls, we just have the means to dissect them more closely than ever. -
Ha, wow that’s one from way back in the vault. Wasnt that dude allegedly super club promoter, chicks and champagne and big baller parties on the weekly? Or at least that’s what he liked to tell everyone.

Flurries started around 11:30, by the time we started walking in at 12:15 you couldn’t see the stadium from across Abbott Rd. By the time I got to my seat couldn’t see the scoreboard, I’m in the tunnel end. It came in quick and just didn’t stop.

8” in four hours, no way they could have ever kept up with that.

The new stadium will be incorporated into the existing Summit Park Mall. ‘Wheatfield Bills’, nice ring.

Kudos to the fans who were at the game

So much fun. Legendary event. My hood was frozen solid by the end of the game. When I was a kid, I loved bundling up and going outside for hours to play in the snow. I’ve always embraced our local weather, and yesterday brought back that childhood “my toes kinda hurt but I’m having way too much fun to go inside” feeling again. Loved every second of it. -
Fair enough, but the argument was presented that other events will help bring in revenue. True, but I was simply pointing out that it won’t make a dent in the cost to the community. If anything, they would need to add on a “convention center”(which downtown Buffalo needs more than a stadium) to a new stadium in order to realistically get multi-use out of it, not necessarily for the revenue but for the appearance of usage.

This is solid as well. Excellent point on summer tours, and how desirable the Buffalo market isn’t for 60k+ people events. Its just a fact, NFL stadiums will never pay for themselves and will more likely end up costing the community more money than it takes in. I think TP knows this market, and knows the real math involved. I could definitely foresee us being in OP for a long time, like it or not.

Got any math on what kinda dent a handful of events every year puts in a billion dollar price tag? I’m no economist, but the professional ones all agree, it’s not much and almost all cities will never see a ROI on any pro stadium, no matter what. https://news.stanford.edu/2015/07/30/stadium-economics-noll-073015/ “NFL stadiums do not generate significant local economic growth, and the incremental tax revenue is not sufficient to cover any significant financial contribution by the city,” said Noll, a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. He has written articles and books and given talks on the public financing of sports stadiums. Go ahead and Google for yourself. There’s plenty more stark evidence out there.

Look around the league and see how many non-football events are hosted in NFL stadiums. Ford Field (covered, similar market) has a bowl game in Dec. and a Taylor Swift concert in August. MetLife (open, largest market) has “Jets Cooking School” in Feb, a two night Taylot Swift stay, and Kenny Chesney and Ed Sheeran concerts in the summer. Oh, and a monster truck rally. A grand total of 6 non-NFL events. The “could host so many other events!” take is the weakest one out there. We barely get a handful of 18k capacity events at the arena as it is.

I agree with this, it was more of a travel safety thing than sitting in the cold all day. To be fair, we listened to the radio all morning and there were plenty of “ifs and maybes” as far as the forecast, as in ‘we know the difference a mile or two can make with these types of storms’. The band set up above the stadium at about noon and didn’t move. Most folks had already arrived by then. Mid first Q people began leaving, probably to get out of OP before it got really bad. My group took a “vote”, it was leave now or stay til the end, and we elected to stick it out. Glad we did for multiple reasons. So much fun. The steady trickle out helped the traffic situation, no question. There was prob ~10k ppl left at the end. Once we got out of the lot on Abbot and to 20 it was fine, prob took 45 mins from stadium to Rt. 5. It was just wet and a little slick there. Again, a matter of a few miles is all the difference.

Looked like olde-timey football to me. Both teams had to deal. No roof in The Buff!
