  1. The food is terrible. Can’t eff up a bottle of beer tho. I’ve been there when the Sabres are on. That wall of TV is headache inducing. I also don’t do bars for games in general these days. Stadium or house gathering. Too many real time hot takes when yr amongst the masses.
  2. Hey good post, thanks for coming to town. If it makes any difference, my dad really likes 716. The handful of times I’ve ended up there were after HS games at Harbor Center. Kinda built in audience, especially in January when you don’t want to get in and out of cars/weather to go elsewhere. And yes, the atmosphere at The Ralph/NErF is always great. We have an awesome throwback vibe here, as you mentioned. 8 extra holidays a year!
  3. Yeah for sure, on the novelty side. But man, EVERYWHERE is(was!) better in Buffalo/WNY when the Sabres make a run. Was very fortunate to live right off of Elmwood during those Briere & Drury runs, what a scene after a W out on the street.
  4. 716 is a terrible restaurant. Just throwing my $0.02 in.
  5. If Tim is pulling a vintage Sully then he’s done it well, as this here thread discussing his article is about to go double digit pages. ?
  6. yeah that’s would be fantastic, spring open. i’d sign up for that scenario in a heartbeat.
  7. Awful, just awful. Disclaimer first, I’m well aware that many, many ppl/families/businesses are currently much worse off than myself, and I count my blessings daily. But dammit, my tavern plan is/was my potential ticket out of healthcare. I work in a specialized field with a very specific degree that really does me no good anywhere else. 10+ years in a high paced, money money money first facility and I am absolutely burnt out. I’m very passionate about small business & the food & drink experience, and the stars were aligning. Was gonna hold the job til the tavern took hold....but here we are. Even if my plan is kaput, I do plan to get out of healthcare. It’s not even about the $ at this point. So if anyone’s lookin for a bartender/manager....
  8. thinking about oiling up the ol’ clippers this evening. I don’t have a ton of small pleasures, but a legit haircut every 3-4 weeks is definitely one of them. Also, been working on a small tavern plan for about 5 years now, was ramping up to pitch the banks by the end of march. had a spot, a tentative lease and bought and paid for architect plans ready to go. dammit. but on the other hand, i cannot imagine what would have happened if I was a month or two ahead of that and had signed the lease and signed for the biz loan and then boom. it’d be DOA.
  9. Man, my section was awash in sewage at The Ralph that one time in ‘14. Pretty sure I have acquired immunity for pretty much everything after that.
  10. Wings. Any good wing joint. Yeah we can get em takeout but the quality drops as soon the lid on the box closes. You need to eat them right from the fryer for maximum enjoyment.
  11. Legendary. What an amazing artist. One of my earliest cartooning inspirations, I used to sit on the floor at Tops and read Mad while my mom shopped, and then beg her to buy it, “look it says ‘cheap’ right here!”
  12. It’s not the tunes it’s their live show. You gotta smell the crowd to truly appreciate.
  13. Ooh bitters is a whole ‘nother thread ? Currently in our lineup, Agnostura & Agnostura Orange, Peychaud’s, Hella Ginger & The Bitter Truth Celery.
  14. Workin on a bottle of Aviation at our house currently. They were one of the first on board for the “gin revival”. Very smooth stuff, goes great in its namesake cocktail. Hard to find real creme de violette in stores though, usually have to make a trek to Premier to get it. Flower City Gin is decent & punchy juniper straight forward gin out of Rochester, if any of youse juniper junkies want to try a WNY brand.
  15. Oh ok thanks, I’ll make a note.
  16. I definitely have nothing against the old standards whatsoever, still enjoy London Dry style all the time, still love a good juniper smack in the yap. Plymouth Navy Strength is always a solid go to in our house. But I also love the creativity and flavor profiles that are constantly evolving, especially on the local front.
  17. Great wings. But play dumdum games & the SLA will gladly give you your dumdum prize.
  18. 2112 all day.
  19. Hendricks, yes. The Botanist, also yes. Beefeater is still a quality industry standard, as well as Tanqueray. Tanqueray has expanded their lineup too, we enjoy the Malacca (peppery & spicy), Rangpur (made w rangpur limes, zesty citrus forward), and Sevilla (made w bittersweet sevilla oranges, obviously very orange forward and smooth). We infused some of the Sevilla with a black tea, then I made a honey-ginger syrup to go with it. Heavenly.
  20. Yeah, I kinda worked that backwards haha, started thinning in my mid 20’s and kinda panicked and did the buzz thing. Then a few years later kinda let it grow in a little and my barber friend said “we can work with that”, so I do a nice tight fade w a little top cover. No bones about buzzin it again though in the meantime.
  21. Ooh dirty dirty, MAN’S GAME!* (*my wife kills those too lol) Hey ain’t nothing wrong with Seagram’s & Tops Tonic. Little lime and yr good to go.
  22. I’m due for a haircut. Rule one of thinning hair; KEEP YO LETTUCE TIGHT. Also, been working on a biz plan for over 4 years and was tightening it up to pitch the bank before the end of march. Well, on one hand thank goodness I didn’t sign for a biz loan right before all this craziness, but on the other dammit all if/when the economy is absolutely shot when this is all over.
