We have several pair of m/f cardinals that visit. Awesome to watch the male forage and feed his lady. Blue jays, black capped chickadees, goldfinch, downie woodpecker, grackles, finches, robins, mourning dove, all regulars in our yard. We go to the reservoir or the gorge and see white & blue heron, night heron, turkey vultures and red tailed hawks. Also, in the summer the Niagara Gorge is home to up to 2% of the planet’s entire seagull population. A couple winters ago I was lucky enough to get pretty close and see a snow owl up on the reservoir several times. Huge creature!

Transit Drive In may show evening Bills games for free
4_kidd_4 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ha, I had the same type of dad growing up. I mean I still do, he still hates paying full price for anything lol. My little brother was the go-to for the “kid price” racket. My little sister was too much of a loudmouth to pull it off...”BUT I’M NOT FIVE I’M SEVEN!!” -

Transit Drive In got really popular over the last decade or so, and now they run the lot like the Gestapo. “YOU VILL PAKK VERE VE TELL YOU!!” -

If no fans in stadium, maybe gather outside?

Sure go ahead. Make sure you all high five a lot, and that communal bowling ball thing is probably a great idea too. -
Nah man, she already won’t stop throwing herself at me.

Hey, I have family in Saquoit(sp?), and some fam that retired to Inlet. We’ve done Lake Placid several times, Saranac, a NY state camp in Speculator, been to Lake George n Old Forge a bunch, and a couple other camps who’s names escape me. We’re not looking anywhere in particular, just daydreaming for right now. My wife is a teacher, so anything we do kinda hinges on her employment. She loves what she does, plus the benefits are clutch. As for me, I don’t really care about my career field so that doesn’t matter, plus I’m pretty sure there’s only a handful of facilities out there where I’d be able to work with my degree anyways. @fansince88 Storefront, eh? I would assume that would have to be either in a relatively “denser” populated part, or a heavy traffic summer seasonal part. Was working on a tavern plan local to me, but the pandemic has put that on indefinite hold. If I could do the same thing in ADK, man I’d sign up right now.

Just curious, wife and I love it there, we head up any chance we get. It’s my dream to retire there someday (or I’d go now if we had job opportunities), but obviously winters are a much different animal than WNY. Any current or former residents on the board? Tell me your stories, pros, cons, likes, dislikes, etc., thanks!

Yep. I have an pretty nice vintage console collection, including about 250 Atari 2600 carts. P’shaw! She later admitted that she didn’t even like video games. She knew what was goin’ on....

That time I asked my future wife if she wanted to “Come up and play Atari”, when it was really just a cover for trynna make out.... It worked, going on 19 years together

Pats / Bengals videotaping... still no punishment
4_kidd_4 replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What’s gonna happen anyways? We’re gonna somehow rewind the last 20 years of the Pats taking everyone’s lunch money? It’ll be a token slap, if anything, just like all their other “punishments”. So what? So let’s dance! -
How do you judge a team's offensive line?

Biggest concert “miss”, biggest concert “letdown”?

Answer 1 might be the most wholesome/emotional roller coaster answer ever. I love that you were spooked by the Zeppelin rumors, and I have to laugh that the “consolation” first show was instead REO Speedwagon. That’s too damn funny! 2, I’m not a Springsteen fan, I dig a handful of his stuff, but I do appreciate that he lays out so much for his fans in his live shows. I’m the same as you though, tight show, keep things moving. Was it “Nirvana Live at the Paramount”? I happened to catch that myself for the first time just a few years ago, and wow. You can feel it in your living room. Nirvana is a group that I think I appreciated more later on. I liked them a lot in their moment, but at the time was always just a bit skeptical of how dark and angsty Kurt Cobain was. Like, was it genuine or just putting that mood forward to sell music? Well, his awful, sad suicide pretty much answered that. Then I caught the Paramount show late one night, and whoa. 100% real. And then I was even more sad that I missed them when I had the chance. -

Healthcare layoffs are because elective surgeries and non emergency treatments/procedures are on hold. I treat necessary patients, we haven’t stopped. The next suite over is almost all non emergency & elective procedures/appointments. Their staff is minimal and the rest are furloughed. You can’t just say “but teh hopspitals are empty!!1!” without context. -

Oh yeah, a definite ‘honorable mention’ that I passed on would be Roger Waters The Wall Tour at the arena a few years back. My brother offered me a spare FOR FREE and I was like “nah, I’m good.” WTF was I thinking?!? -
A. What concert/artist/show did you have a chance to see but passed on that you absolutely regret? B. What concert/artist/show did you see that was disappointing/bad scene/ripoff? For me; A. I absolutely kick myself for passing on Nirvana at UB in November 1993. 5 months before Cobain died. Touring for a less than two month old “In Utero”. Probably the apex of their popularity, and ‘grunge’ in general. I was instantly sad when I saw show pictures in The Spectrum, what a scene, what a crowd, what a setlist, punctuated by the In Utero mannequin front and center. In hindsight, this was a legendary show and I passed. Being a poor UB student when tickets came out at the time, I chose Rage Against The Machine/Cypress Hill/Funkdoobiest at Alumni in December 1993 (legendary show in its own right) and I said “eh, I’ll catch Nirvana next time”. Whoops. Great writeup; https://www.ubspectrum.com/article/2018/11/reaching-nirvana B. Possibly because this was the most recent “bad show” in memory, but I’d have to say Modest Mouse at UBCFA a couple years ago. Now I like MM, but my wife absolutely loves them. She’s a poet and is more into lyrics than I am, and these guys really do have some beautiful lines/feelings/sentiment that perfectly counter their sometimes jagged, discordant music, especially their earlier stuff. This was a “bucket list show” for my wife...and they were absolutely brutal. About three songs in, I leaned over and said “is it just me errrrr.....” and she said “no, this is bad. really bad”. They were a mess. Granted, it was a bad venue match for this type of show- all seated, no drinks allowed inside. Fine enough, I can get past that. But for a touring band of 20 years...they stopped in between almost every song to either ramble incoherently(which I later learned is kinda the lead guy’s thing), or to adjust pedals/cables/mics/tune up. Like, uncomfortably awkward pauses between every single song. No flow. No vibe. The sound was an absolute mess overall too. Way too loud, three percussionists all mixed too high, and just an overall wall of noise that I had a hard time picking guitar and horn lines through. We had looked so forward to their show, and my wife was especially disappointed that the lead singer/writer she admired was so awful in person. Her exact quote “I really cannot believe so many beautiful words come from that douche!” haha! So what says youse??
