  1. A 2nd rounder is valuable currency, regardless of where it falls on the totem pole. I don't think NFL front offices put a ton of thought into where in each round the pick might land when making these types of trades. Sure, you might have a general idea (Cleveland, low 30s, Patriots, high 50s or 60s), but if you just want to get some value for a guy who you'll never resign in FA, who cares?
  2. Yes, I'm a big fan of the model. Assemble a top tier coaching staff and empower them to create their game plans. Overseeing a NFL roster is hard enough, why make it tougher trying to call plays or coach up the unit where you had the most experience ? I guess he's a big motivator and people love to work & play for him. Everyone raves about his leadership and vision. Good stuff.
  3. Well, on paper, he doesn't have a very impressive resume. Not a ton of experience.
  4. That generational talent at QB will not mean much if the team around them is garbage. We need to keep building a talented team and worry about the rest later.
  5. Or the personnel to pull it off. The only team that seems to pull it off are the Patriots, in the past decade they have reinvented themselves several times. Went from power run game with Cory Dillon, to wide open spread, to heavy 2 tight end set with Gronk and Hernandez, and now they've got 4 RBs!!! they rotate in for very specific run & pass roles.
  6. NFL coaches are not the workers, they are the COOs. They should have a scheme foundation in place, a solid structure that every coach and player can understand. It should account for existing talent when it's All Pro level and retained on longer term contracts. Gameplans change every week, but I don't think they'll ever go too far outside what is taught and coaches in mini camp and training camp. I think schemes sometimes are too grand sometimes. "Establish the run", "play action to setup the pass", "zone read to stretch the defense". blah blah blah. How about 1) Acquire playmakers and 2) get them the ball? K.I.S.S.
  7. If offensive linemen can hold, let's allow the defensive linemen to pull out the "Deacon Jones head smack".
  8. Yep, ONLY reason Dak played is because Tony had a major injury. He then benefited from an All Pro WR, an elite 1st year running back, and the best OL in the game. He's no slouch, but he also was in a perfect situation.
  9. Tell me about all the front offices that are putting 5th round rookie QBs out there to develop them. "Here you go Nathan, try to watch out for Von Miller, and don't throw it at Talib. Good luck". Seriously. I'd love to see some examples of 5th round rookie QBs playing.
  10. CTE is a copout. This guy murdered at least one person, possibly a few more, with extremely concerning behavior dating back to his late teens. Stop giving this guy press like he's a victim in all this.
  11. And, what's your point? Coaches don't react to boo birds from the stands. You must know the Marv Levy quote... Peterman vs Miller, Wolfe, Talib, Harris, Roby and Stewart? Yeah, that will "develop" him nicely. More likely permanently shell shock him.
  12. No, it's not. You don't count on 5th rounders to be starters out of the gate, especially a QB. He'll learn and develop plenty from the bench and in the filmroom. With time, maybe he's ready, but it won't be 2017. McDermott viewed Tyrod as "good enough" for 2017, that's all that matters. Peterman is the white flag, and nobody is doing that in mid September on any team, even the J-E-T-S.
  13. Ah, the life of a backup QB in Buffalo. You're the most popular guy in town! Tyrod is the guy for 2017, for better or worse.
  14. NFL coaches are extremely smart, but also make some strange decisions in hindsight. I guarantee if you sat down next to Dick Jauron, Rod Marinelli or any collection of "bad coaches", you'd walk away impressed! My trouble with that team is that they didn't play to their strengths. The top WR combo in the league and the greatest QB of our generation? They decide to build an offense around a poor offensive line and a mediocre collection of RBs. They are doing a much better job this year of getting the ball to their playmakers and have also rebuilt their o-line.
  15. Shady and Elliott are both elite backs, but have wildly different styles. Denver will fly to the ball, I don't think you can hesitate in the backfield much, just need to hit the gas and go, preferably outside.
  16. So, Anthony Lynn or Greg Roman, those are your two choices. I think the Kubiak system (I can't call it Dennison's, this is the first year he's called plays, it was always Kubiak's baby) is kind of dated.
  17. I don't think our WRs stand a chance against their corners. Roby, Harris and Talib will smother them. There has been poor seperation downfield so far, and the Broncos CBs are each great tacklers. Good luck on those quick screens and slants. TEs will be well challenged by Stewart and Marshall, both are great in coverage. I think runs between the tackles will get gobbled up by Peko and Wolfe, both are outstanding in disrupting running lanes. I would try lots of outside the tackle runs and misdirection plays, get that defense moving sideways as much as possible and hope those linebackers get tangled up. Lots of bootlegs, counters, maybe an end around or two, some zone read. I would try to set the tone and run heavy toward Von Miller. I like the idea of a split back formation, with Shady and Tolbert both in the backfield with Tyrod behind center, or Tyrod in the gun with both on his flank. Our offense needs to stay on the field as much as possible! If that defense is fresh in the 3rd and we have to throw to catch up, it's game over.
  18. Most coaches will not take pieces of other schemes, regardless of how much success they had, and incorporate them into their own. Tyrod and Shady's success has been in lots of shotgun & zone read. Neither of those are staples of the Dennison scheme, which has been around for 20 years. Keep in mind that this scheme used PEYTON MANNING on bootlegs and under center!
  19. USA Today, BBC, Washington Post and more all carrying this story. I'm sure the perpetrator will be identified shortly!
  20. Denver defense has been elite for a few years, don't be so quick to knock them off the pedestal. Denver - 1A, Seattle - 1B in the league. Then everyone else.
  21. The whole situation really stinks.
  22. Tebow continues to be brought up on local sports radio every summer. It's pretty hysterical. That was a fun year, every game was a nail biter!
  23. Yep, kind of my thoughts too. He'll bounce back just fine.
  24. Oh my! Not sure how I'd react, perhaps get the powerwasher out and spray 'em down? http://deadspin.com/a-jogger-dubbed-the-mad-pooper-is-terrorizing-colorad-1818521863
  25. I know a former Director at the Washington Post very well. They did tons of studies about their digital presence and estimated that adding a paywall would turn away 80%+ of their digital readers. They put it up. Paper advertising and PPC are not generating the returns expected by businesses, and most consumers find ads in any capacity to be very annoying. You're going to see more and more of this.
