  1. Bit of initial sticker shock for me (Savoie seems like a high price!) but it sure fills a huge hole on the Sabres roster. They are undoubtably a better team than before the trade. And McLeod is still young + under team control after his current deal expires. He’s really only played 2 full NHL seasons and he’s gotten better every year, but he’s already a really good defensively responsible 3C and immediately the best faceoff man on the roster (by far). He’s also super fast. Maybe the fastest player in the NHL. Really good underlying statistics. The Sabres have added a LOT of speed to their lineup this offseason while also subtracting a lot of the slower players (Okposo, Skinner, Mittelstadt), and added a lot more grit too. I really like the way the bottom 6 is shaping up. They have a really strong bottom 6 that can all play the way Lindy wants. He talked about having lines with different “tools” in his bag. He’s now got that. A really good 4th line that can play defense and physical. A good 2 way 3rd line that can chip in on the score sheet. I would ideally still like to see a top 6 F added to the roster (I think it’s still a hole and don’t want to have to rely on young guys taking a step to fill it), but otherwise Adams has actually had a nice offseason. I’d be nervous about the price of a top 6 F on the trade market though if this is the price for McLeod… Savoie seems like a high price but he was a bit redundant in the Sabres prospect pool. I think it seems obvious the Sabres are higher on other prospects they have. I think Savoie had been leap-frogged a while ago. I also have to believe the rest of the NHL agreed. It sounds like Adams has been shopping Savoie for a while…
  2. Girgensons signed a 3 year deal with Tampa Bay. $850k x 3 https://www.nhl.com/lightning/news/lightning-sign-f-zemgus-girgensons-to-a-three-year-contract looks like he took a discount to sign with a winning team. I can’t blame him prioritizing winning after spending his entire career in Buffalo. Some really brutal years too since he was here during the tank for McDavid/Eichel. It’ll be interesting to see how he fits in Edmonton.
  3. I am not expecting much. Probably just some bottom of the roster additions again, as usual. Friedman put out a list of rumors about where all the top free agents will sign and Buffalo was not mentioned once, which Lance Lysowski seemed to confirm. Then said they are in on some bottom 6 players and depth defenseman (#6-8 types). and said their biggest splash will be via trade. except Kevyn Adams doesn’t seem able to close any trades...
  4. official now. Kevyn Adams confirmed it yesterday that they are buying out Skinner. wonder where he signs? lol
  5. Yeah I would have been happy with Dickinson too. I really liked him, I just thought a 2 way center who is good at winning board battles and getting to the net + has some snarl/meanness to his game, and has already been playing with men since he was 16, was a bigger need than yet another left handed defenseman. edit - I could even see Helenius competing for the 3C role this coming season, especially if Adams isn’t able to add a 3C through trade or free agency. I very much want a veteran 3C but I don’t exactly have confidence that’ll happen.
  6. Well, no trade but I’m very happy with Helenius at #14. He is the guy I would have wanted Buffalo to draft at #11 (of who was left on the board). I liked Buium too but just didn’t see the fit in Buffalo (offensive left handed defenseman). So, no complaints about the trade down anymore. lol
  7. Wow, already a huge surprise and we are only at pick #3. Already throwing the top of the draft into a blender… Sennecke’s reaction said it all. He was in shock. Reading his lips it sure looked like he said “OMG! WTF! WTF!” 😂 edit - found a video:
  8. damn, I wanted him in Buffalo. Mangiapane looked great on Cozens wing at worlds. He would’ve been a good fit. I read he had an 8 team no trade list. Maybe Buffalo was on it? if we keep #14 and both 2nds this trade will make no sense at all.
  9. Has to be part of a bigger move. There’s no reason to trade down before they are on the clock (and see who’s on the board) otherwise. They are definitely not at a stage where they need to stockpile draft picks. The pipeline is almost too full as it is.
  10. No, he has 3 years left at $9M/year. The buyout length would be 6 years, maybe that’s what you are thinking of? A buyout creates (a varying amount of) cap space in the first 3 years then adds 3 years of a $2.4M cap hit after that.
  11. good! I just hope they use the cap space the buyout will create.
  12. Oh yeah, forgot about him! Yeah I liked him too.
  13. yep, I have absolutely nothing against Reinhart. He was a class act while in Buffalo, and I have no issues with the way he left. He was open about wanting a long term deal in Buffalo for years, watched other young players get their long term deals while he kept getting bridge deals from each new GM. Then when a GM was finally willing to talk long term he was 1 year from UFA and informed the team he would be testing UFA, giving Buffalo plenty of time to trade him. I don’t blame him at all for the way things went down. Nothing against Okposo either. He wasn’t the captain to get Buffalo over the hump but was still a good role model for the young kids and a great person on&off the ice. I didn’t like how he fueled the player/fan feud last season, and I wasn’t crazy about his comments after being traded to Florida. But neither are something I hold against him. I was very happy to see Okposo, Reinhart and Rodriguez lift the Cup. Eichel on the other hand… I definitely can’t say I was happy for him. lol
  14. What a great series! Seems like Edmonton just ran out of gas (or magic). Florida also found their game again. It was like the tables turned last night. Edmonton looked like the team with more pressure on them and Florida looked like they were playing more free. It didn’t help Edmonton that McDavid was held off the score sheet the last 2 games. Honestly, I was expecting more of him last night. Credit to Florida though. They really shut him down. They took away his time/space every shift. But he still didn’t perform in game 7 like I expected him to. Draisaitl was basically a no-show all series. That hurt edmonton too. Just goes to show what a team sport hockey is. Even with the best player on the planet it wasn’t enough for Edmonton. They don’t have the depth Florida does, or the balance through-out their lines. And edmonton made it worse by stacking their best players on one line, so Florida really just had to shut down the McDavid/Draisaitl line. Man, as fun as it was watching that series, it made me feel like Buffalo is light years away from even thinking about a championship. Buffalo’s overall defensive game is nowhere near playoff caliber, let alone championship caliber. Hopefully Lindy can help correct that, and Adams can make the right additions/subtractions to the team (because as they sit now, they aren’t good enough). First step is making the playoffs though. Then we can see how our guys perform in the playoffs and start to make adjustments (like Florida did). I don’t know that we have a GM anywhere near the level of Bill Zito though. Seems like every move he’s made has been the right one. Really impressive job he’s done.
  15. There’s nothing quite like a game 7 Stanley Cup final. Both team’s backs against a wall and one win away from a Cup… and this game 7 final has the potential to be a real classic. Two really good teams that each have multiple true star players and some really good depth pieces. Both teams have goalies who have gotten hot at times during the playoffs. It could be a real battle if Florida gets it together. Edmonton definitely has the momentum now but Florida’s playing at home and facing elimination for the first time. It’ll be interesting to see who rises to the occasion, on both teams. McDavid alone makes this game a “can’t miss” watch.
  16. It definitely still hurts thinking about that draft lottery loss. But I just have so much respect for McDavid that I can root for him to win the Cup (he deserves). I also think the Edmonton fan base deserves it much more than Florida’s fan base. They are such die-hard hockey fans and went through a decade+ of crap teams, so I’m happy for them that they’re finally having success. But I’ll be happy for guys like Okposo, Reinhart and Paul Maurice if Florida wins. And I’ll be happy that Buffalo gets a 5th round pick for Okposo instead of a 7th. lol
  17. If this gets to game 7 my money is on McDavid to finish what he started. It would be so exciting to see this series go to game 7. At this point I want to see it just to see what McDavid will do. lol. He’s been super human. It’s been crazy to watch (not as much tonight as the previous 2 games but he’s still been great tonight too). I thought this series was over when the panthers went up 3-0.
  18. I’m not sure if I should feel honored or weirded out that you linked to something I posted 5 years ago. 😂
  19. Dunne did an interview with Jeremy on WGR where he talks about this interview with Beane and gives a decent summary of the article. https://omny.fm/shows/howard-and-jeremy/tyler-dunne-talks-about-his-sit-down-with-brandon i’d still like to read the actual article but I’m not paying Dunne. lol if anyone finds another bills related website where this article has been copied + pasted please let me know! the site uses a hard paywall so none of the usual methods are going to work. I don’t know of any way around a hard pay wall.
  20. https://www.wired.com/story/titan-submersible-disaster-inside-story-oceangate-files/ “The Titan Submersible Disaster Shocked the World. The Exclusive Inside Story Is More Disturbing Than Anyone Imagined” Crazy read.
  21. I guess proof-reading isn’t a thing anymore, huh? 😬
  22. Especially with Diggs now being in a contract year. He’s not going to be happy if he’s not producing. I’ll be surprised if he will be satisfied with WR #2 or #3 targets.
  23. Yeah that was 100% a goal. I thought that was a bad call right away and the replay showed it was. I don’t know how they let it stand. But to be honest, I also thought it would have been kind of funny if Dallas lost due to a bogus no-goal in overtime. Give them a little taste of what Buffalo fans felt in the ‘99 Stanley cup finals, losing on that “no goal” in triple overtime… 😂
  24. Yeah, no surprise there. I still think it’s a downgrade from Keefe. I am really curious to see how he has the team play, and what changes the GM makes to the roster. Knowing the type of team Treliving and Berube prefer, I wonder if they’ll transition towards more of a “tough” team now (vs. skilled). I feel like his system is a poor fit for their current roster. He coaches a hard-nosed, hard forechecking, dump&chase + grind it out along the boards style of play. I don’t see that as a fit for this skilled leafs roster. Maybe I’m wrong though. Or maybe he changes up his preferred system (doubtful).
  25. those are Butker’s remarks on women and their role. How much clearer could he make it? He is saying women’s purpose, according to not just him but God’s will, is in the home conceiving and raising children and being a “wife/homemaker” (and later attacks birth control, implying women should have children, or more children, whether it’s convenient for them or not). He said it was a “diabolical lie” that they were told they should have careers and that they would instead be happiest being homemakers. And then after defining how he views a woman’s role he says his advise is coming from experience and we need to stop pretending what we are seeing is normal (what he meant by “normal” is obviously left up to interpretation, but seeing as he was speaking directly to the women in the audience it doesn’t feel like a big leap to say he probably meant women having careers and not just pumping out kids as stay at home mom’s like they used to). And if all of that wasn’t clear enough, He then goes on to address the men in the audience with a much different message. He tells the men they set the tone of our culture and need to be unapologetically masculine and not allow themselves to be “emasculated”. Yes, he says they have a role as fathers but he doesn’t ever once tell them they’d be happier not having careers and staying home to raise kids. Just because he complimented the importance of a stay-at-home wife doesn’t mean what he said wasn’t misogynistic and demeaning. He was VERY clear about how he views a woman’s role. I don’t understand how anyone could say otherwise. He really didn’t leave it up for interpretation. Nobody that disagrees with Butker is attacking nuclear families either. I haven’t seen that even once. Disagreeing with his 1950’s misogynistic view of a woman’s role/purpose is not attacking nuclear families. And Yea, plenty of stay-at-home mom’s are happy with their lives. Nobody is saying otherwise, or that they shouldn’t be. A stay at home PARENT (not just woman, it can just as easily be a man’s role) is a very important job. If that’s what a woman wants, and they can afford to live on a single income, great! I’m happy for them. I don’t look down on them for not having/wanting a career. But I certainly don’t view that as a woman’s main role and I would never dare to tell a woman that she would be happiest as a stay at home mom, or that’s what she should aspire to be. if you agree with his views on a woman’s role, fine. Then own it. Don’t try to spin what he said into something it’s not.
