Wow. I really hope the kid is ok. He was very clearly not in his right mind. In a way I almost hope it's drugs rather than some type of psychotic break or mental illness setting in. Mental illness can sometimes turn on like a light switch in kids around his age. I hate to speculate. But if I had to take a guess it would be one of those new synthetic chemicals from china the kids take to get high so it don't show up in drug tests (synthetic weed/spice, bath salts etc). It could be PCP too. There's a reason they call it "Butt Naked"... You never know, but I'd be pretty surprised if Zay was the type to be smoking straight PCP. Unless he smoked some weed that he didn't know had been dipped in PCP or something. Or it was some type of reaction between prescription drugs and something else. Whatever it wasn't I just hope he's alright. I could care less about his football career and all that BS right now. His Health comes in front of all that other stuff.

Question for the OP - were you, or are you, in your high school's drama club? If not, you'd have fit right in! lol the over-dramatization on this board is getting crazy!

Bills Sign Newhouse and Bodine

I honestly don't know why everyone assumes either Dawkins or Glenn could play RT. Neither have ever shown any ability in their careers to play RT. They tried Dawkins there last season and Mills easily outplayed him there. And Rex tried Glenn at RT during training camp (in 2015 I believe) and he really struggled there as well. I believe Marrone at have possibly tried him there too IIRC (but I'm not sure on that. Its hard to switch from from one side of the line to the other. These guys spend years building up their muscle memory on one side of the line and it's totally different on the other side. You almost have to re-learn the position in some ways. It can be done I'm sure, butnitd take time and probably be much easier to just take a RT in the mid/late rounds of the draft (and you have to factor in Glenn's salary too. You're not paying him all that money just to have him struggle for a season or more learning RT). Look what pro bowl G Josh Sitton had to say in this subject - https://twitter.com/ArmandoSalguero/status/974682257150676993?s=20 (I didn't want to embed the tweet because it has a swear word in it and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here) -
Rumor: Trade up discussion with Giants

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000922045/article/top-10-qb-prospects-of-past-3-nfl-draft-classes-darnold-no-1 Daniel Jeremiah says 4 of the 6 QB prospects with the highest draft grades in the past 3 years are all in this draft. That's very rare that there are so many highly graded QBs in the same class. It hasn't happened in quite a while as far as I know. Darnold 1 (graded at 7 - last QB with a 7 or above was Andrew Luck for reference) Wentz 2 Rosen 3 Goff 4 Mayfleid 5 Allen 6 Watson 7 Seems like a very good year to take a shot at a QB prospect, especially with next year's class looking thin. I'm not pounding the table demanding that they sell the farm and move up but I will be more than good with it if that's what they do. I'll be good with a smaller trade up or a QB at 12 too. I'd rather land one of those top 4 if possible though. -
Bills Sign Newhouse and Bodine

Lmao I'm hoping it ends up more like Groy/Miller/draft pick lol But if not, hopefully they're just cheap depth until that $40 some million in dead cap falls of next season. I'll give them a chsnce though. Any player can look better in a system more tailored to their strengths. Look at the difference in our O line from Roman/Kromer's scheme to Dennison's... (I'm not counting on it though). -
Bills Sign Newhouse and Bodine
BillsFan4 replied to NewEraBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is what I had always heard, which is why I was excited about Castillo being hired. Maybe his reputation took a hit with some of that stuff in Baltimore, but I had always read/heard that he was one of the most well respected o line coaches in the NFL. -
Seems a little early to be calling ANY free agent signing the best or worst. It will all depend on how each guy plays next season and what type of impact they have on their team. If the Bills go from the bottom 5 in the NFL in run defense and sacks, to the top 5-10 and Star + Murphy both play a huge role in that, will Rosenthal be saying they were bad signings then? But Greg Rosenthal has a quota to meet, so he has to write an article about something... Somehting else - While they may both play the role of stuffing runs and eating double teams, they are polar opposites, personality wise. Star is very well known for being a totally selfless, 100% team first guy. His teammates have raved about him (like Luke Keuchley, Kawann Short etc). Choosing to pay Star sends a MUCH different message than choosing to continue paying Dareus. Paying star sends the message that we value selfless team first guys, and guys who aren't going to be out at the club drinking and doing drugs, being chronically late to meetings etc. And Dareus still has a higher cap hit than Star even though that cap hit is being split between the Bills and Jags. Had he stayed in Buffalo, Dareus IIRC would count $16M against the cap this year (or something around there).

I don't think the QBs last year were as highly rated as the QBs this year. Not sure how you feel about Daniel Jeremiah (IMO he is a pretty well respected draft analyst, although obviously all this draft stuff has to be taken with a grain of salt). But he has 4 QBs this year on his "top 10 QB prospects for the last 3 years" list, and 2 in the top 3. He has Darnold 1 and Rosen 3. Mayfield is 5, Allen 6. Pat Mahomes doesn't even make the top 10. Watson is 7. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000922045/article/top-10-qb-prospects-of-past-3-nfl-draft-classes-darnold-no-1 Another thing to consider, there definitely didn't seem to be much of any discussion last year of numerous QBs going off the board in the top 3-5 like this year, or any discussion at all of 5 or 6 possible 1st round QBs. Or talks of teams competing with each other to trade up to the top of the draft.

Bills Sign Newhouse and Bodine
BillsFan4 replied to NewEraBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If people really want the Bills to use all those draft picks for a trade up, these are pretty much the type of cheaper depth signings they will have to make to fill holes and at least give them a chance to help open up those picks for trade. Especially when you take their cap space this season into consideration. -

Anxious to see what they signed for. That should give us a better idea to whether they see these guys as starters or more as depth. -
Dan Patrick: Bills have called Browns about #1 pick
BillsFan4 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are you talking about when the Texans signed Osweiller? If so he was a free agent. What value chart are you referring to? I guess I am not seeing how a team signing a free agent has anything to do with a trade up in the draft and the Jimmy Johnson draft pick value chart I was referring to. All I was doing was looking at the trade up that just happened and adding up the draft points given up (based on the Jimmy Johnson draft value chart that assigns points to each draft pick). I was saying the Jets paid too much and IF the Giants now think that trade set the market value for a trade up this year, it'll be tough to match. I have no idea if that is the case or not though. Hopefully the Giants would be willing to accept something a bit more reasonable. -

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here? Maybe it's just going over my head. I was talking about my own math in adding up the draft value points of the draft picks given up in that trade up (according to what each draft pick is worth on the draft value chart). There were a lot of decimal points and I did it quickly so I wasn't sure if all my math was exact. -

Bridgewater to Sign with the Jets
BillsFan4 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets are absolutely drafting a QB at 3. It's the worst kept secret in the league. There have been all sorts of reports from very credible sources that is their plan. Reportedly, it has been their plan for over a year. I guess last summer Mike Maccagnan sold Woody Johnson on going all in and doing whatever it took to get one of the top 4 QBs in this year's draft. The Jets have been pouring all their resources this entire past year into scouting all of the top QBs in this class. They are said to be comfortable with any 1 of the top 4 QBs this year and moved up to assure they get 1 of them. Sounds like Maccagnan's job depended on it (landing one of the 4 top QBs this year). It was also reported that they brought McCown and Bridgewater in because they wanted to fill the QB room with high character guys and create competition for the rookie. It is likely that Bridgewater ends up as nothing more than QB 3, or even gets cut. But he is insurance in case McCown gets hurt again (as he does every year) and the rookie isn't ready to start. That way they don't have to throw him in the fire before he's ready. -
The Jets Just Made a Mistake
BillsFan4 replied to BadLandsMeanie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not so sure about that. Hes never been part of a front office drafting a RB in round 1 at all, let alone #1 overall. The highest pick hes invested himself on a RB as a GM is a 3rd rounder. He could view Barkley as the exception, but I think it's far from a guarantee. -
Wow, that's it? A little surprised the Bills didn't offer 1 year, $5M or something. They must feel pretty good about getting their MLB in free agency or the draft, one who fits McD's defense better. Or they just didnt have much much interest in bringing Brown back. Here's FL linebacker salaries just for comparison - https://overthecap.com/position/linebacker/

BillsFan4 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you think that will get a move from 12 to 2 done? I would absolutely love it if it did! I'd be all over that trade but I'm just not sure that gets it done, especially now that the Jets set the market so ridiculously high. https://www.patspulpit.com/2017/4/23/15398184/2017-nfl-draft-creating-a-brand-new-nfl-draft-value-trade-chart According to the new draft value chart (which IIRC is the one you like to use) the trade you offered would be 793.48 points, and the #2 overall is worth 717.17. So maybe that does get it done. But the Jets set the market crazy high. Again, looking at the new draft value chart, the 3rd overall pick is worth 514.33. If all my math is correct, The Jets gave up 725.88 in picks this year, plus whatever you value their 2nd at next year. Say you value it as the 6th pick of the 3rd round (1 round lower than this year for it being a year out), it's worth 69.82. That would be 795.7 draft points given up for a pick worth 514.33. So they overpaid by 281.37. For the Bills to match that offer, they'd have to give up 998 draft points for the #2 pick (which is valued at 717.17) Their 6 picks in the first 3 rounds are worth a total of 921.13. That leaves another 76.87 points to make up to match the Jets offer (which probably means adding another 2nd next year, possibly even our 1st to make up the difference between moving from 12 to 2 ans falling out of the top 10 completely, (where as the Jets only moved from 6-3)). But just say a 2nd for arguments sake... If the Giants are looking for someone to match the Jets overpayment, we probably can't do it. Not unless Beane sacrifices his entire draft. -
Jets just traded with Colts for #3 pick in first round
BillsFan4 replied to Hurricane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They wont be toast in my eyes. You can only control what you can control. There are so many different scenarios that can play out in the coming years. Not everything depends on trading everything away in this draft to get a QB - and I might add a QB draft that's strength lies in its depth. The Jets were desperate. From all the stories being written, Maccagnan basically had to land a top 4 QB this year. His job depended on it. They sold out and went all in on it over a year ago. Now they set the price so ridiculously high that the Bills may not be willing to match it. I can't blame Beane if he does not want to make such a massive overpayment in his very first ever draft as a GM. If he misses, or that player isn't a franchise changing talent, he's likely toast and never gets another GM job. Where as if he only trades up slightly or takes a shot at 12 in a deep QB draft, he's not putting ALL of his chips in already in his first ever draft. I dont see it as a free draft to move up either. The Bills are in year 1 of a rebuild with huge holes all over the team. They traded away numerous talented players to acquire all of these draft picks. They were by no means free, and they opened up more holes on this team. You trade away this whole draft (basically) to move up, you are betting everything on a rookie QB. If they stay out and use those picks to fill a bunch of holes, maybe it opens up a trade-up in the next couple years because you now have a more complete team and you can more easily gamble on giving away extra picks. Maybe you trade up for Drew Lock next year (who set an SEC record for TDs throw last season with a ridiculous 44 TD passes!) or some other QB who emerges. There was no Drew Lock in 2013, so I wouldn't call it an EJ type draft just yet. Look, I am still all for trading up if that's what the Bills choose to do. I just don't know if it's possible anymore. The Jets set a stupid high price, and we still have the Broncos ahead of us who may be willing to move up yet. When looking at the draft value charts and what the Jets gave up, To have any chance at trading to 2, you are easily looking at giving up the top 3 rounds of this draft (which is 5 top 65 picks and 6 in the top 90) plus a 1st or 2nd next year, maybe even more. Theres been lots of rumors going around that the Giants don't want to trade back out of the top of the draft, either. That they want a franchise changing talent from the top of this draft. So what can you do if the Giants aren't willing to trade back to 12? You can try to move up twice, but now we're talking even more picks. I want a franchise QB as bad as every Bills fan. I guarantee it. I haven't seen one in a Bills uniform since the days of Jim Kelly. It's been far too long. But that's not Brandon Beane's fault. He hasn't even had 1 draft with the Bills yet. I'm not going to burn him at the stake if he doesn't recklessly trade up in his first ever draft. Plus I still have hope that we can land our franchise guy at 12, or with a slight trade up the board. I don't think our ONLY chance is a top 2/3 QB from this draft. We could very well get a top 2 QB from this draft at 12. -

Is that really fair to say? This is Beane & his front office/personnel/scouting staff's very first draft with the Bills. After a single draft, Can we really say that he is no better or different than the previous regime who were not aggressive in finding a QB in at least 4 years (and really the entire time Whaley was here starting in 2010)? Do you think most GM's are able to land their franchise QB in their very first draft with a new team? Another thought - how many GMs trade away the farm for a QB in their very first draft with a team? seems like a huge gamble to make very shortly into his tenure as a first time GM. Look, I want a franchise QB as much as everyone else here, I guarantee it. But I'm not going to write Beane off if he doesn't trade away his entire draft in year 1 of a rebuild, and his very first ever draft as a GM. -

So there isn't anything they can do to get him games in the AHL without ruining his NCAA eligibility? You can only do that with Junior players then? That kinda sucks. It would have been a great test to see if he was ready to turn pro next season. I don't know why I thought you could do that with college players... -
Great post! I agree. I havent had had faith in a front office and coaching staff in a LONG time like I do in this one. I have high hopes that they will get this thing right in the long run and build a team that's truly competitive year in and year out. And all I could keep thinking after the shock of the Jets trading up wore off - am I really That worried about what they do? Especially with their current ownership? The answer is no, I'm not. Even if/when they draft a top end QB prospect at 3, I have little faith that they will provide that QB with the coaching and other resources, as well as surround him with real talent throughout the rest of the team, that he needs to be truly successful in the long run. They may end up with a good QB who can help win them games, but I don't really have any fear of them becoming the next Brady/Patriots and taking over the division.

From what I've been able to gather, it actually sounds to me like Maccagnan's job already depended on getting one of the top 4 QBs this year anyway. I guess he sold Woody Johnson over a year ago on going all in and doing whatever it took to get one of the top 4 QBs in this draft class. https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/03/17/new-york-jets-trade-indianapolis-colts-third-pick-sam-darnold-josh-rosen-baker-mayfield-josh-allen Dont get a top 4 QB this year? Fired. Miss on your QB pick this year? Fired. So he really had nothing to lose. It's likely that the only way he keeps his job is to hit big on a QB this year. He could probably care less if he significantly overpaid to do it. Which, if that's the case, it makes him a hard man to out-big in a trade up. A GM who knows he's in danger of losing his job is probably much more willing to do something reckless than a GM who is comfortable in his job security. -
What Beane looks for in a QB from May 2017
BillsFan4 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They have definitely talked about a pocket passer multiple times. We really dont don't have much to go on yet though, since Beane hasn't had a single draft with the Bills. All we really know is this - - Beane supposedly went after Bradford, who is a pure pocket passer. - He went after McCarron, who isn't exactly mobile. He's known more as a pocket passer with accuracy and ball security. - He traded Tyrod - McDermott drafted Peterman last year who is not mobile. His strengths are said to be accuracy, getting the ball out quick, throwing with anticipation, going through progressions and reading defenses. Also supposedly being pro ready. So my best guess is they want more of an accurate pocket passer. But I really have no clue. Carolina did draft Newton, and both McDermott and Beane have been around mobile QBs a lot in their careers, so I could see it going either way. I said after the Peterman pick that I didn't have any idea if Peterman would turn out to be an NFL QB or not, but if those are the traits (accurate, throw with anticipation, read defenses, go through progressions etc) that they prioritize in a QB then I like their chances of eventually finding our franchise guy a lot more than I did under Whaley (when looking at what he seemed to prioritize in a QB).
