Same here. This is EXACTLY what I wanted the Bills to do last year. Personally, I thought last year was a weaker QB draft class and this year's was much stronger. I wanted the Bills to trade down last year and target this QB draft class. I would easily take Rosen or Darnold over any QB in last year's class.
-
You never bring up his actual play as a QB. It's always his attitude/opinion you don't like. On the field, he's the best passer in this draft class and the most advanced QB in his abilities. The way he can read the field is extremely impressive for a college kid. His accuracy is fantastic, too. He also led the 2nd greatest comebacks in NCAA football history. Brought his team back in the 4th quarter down by 34 points (44-10) to win the game. He led FIVE straight scoring drives, and scored 35 straight points to win the game 45-44. And that wasn't even his best game... He is the #2 ranked QB in this draft class according to NFL draft grades. You better be be ready for the possibility of a Rosen pick because there has been a lot of smoke coming from the Bills that this is the guy they want! And I love it! I think he would fit in Buffalo perfectly fine.

Mahomes received a 2nd round grade from the NFL's draft advisory board - https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2017/02/23/patrick-mahomes-received-2nd-round-grade-from-nfl-draft-advisory-board/ and wasnt even in the top 10 QBs (as far as draft grades go) from the last 3 drafts. This year he would most likely be in the 2nd tier of QBs discussion with guys like Mason Rudolph, Lamar Jackson etc.

Richie Incognito Retires Via Twitter - Now Confirmed
BillsFan4 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's kind of interesting that there hasn't been any type of announcement or confirmation of Richie's retirement by the Bills (I just double checked their twitter account to make sure). I don't know if it's just another cap type of issue that keeps them from saying anything, or if there's something else going on behind the scenes. I believe the issue with Wood was him retiring vs being unable to play due to medical issues, and Wood not willing to say he was the one retiring (for money reasons). The case with Richie seems to be different. He's said straight up he is retiring. I don't really see why the Bills wouldn't acknowledge it (especially if he was truly done playing over medical reasons) and congratulate him on his NFL career. Makes me wonder if that stuff about having until Sunday is true (for Richie to change his mind or the Bills to offer more money). -
How do you trade a low 1st from this year for a high 1st next year? You'd have to target a team that you are sure will be picking high next year, and then get them to somehow decide to part with a pick they know has a good chance at being high for a late 1st this year. I don't see that happening. Why would a bad/rebuilding team do that? I dont know that you will get any team to give you a 1st next year for one of our mid round 2nd's this year either. How often does that actually happen? But if someone did offer us a 1st next year for one of our mid 2nds this year (we pick 53 & 56) id definitely do it. Also, Next year's draft looks pretty weak at QB (you are the 1st I've heard call it strong). The top QB prospect next year (as of now) is Drew Lock. He considered entering the draft this year but the NFL draft counsel did not give him a 1st or 2nd round grade and recommended he go back to school. This year looks like the strongest QB draft class in many years. It has 4 of the top 6 highest graded QBs in the last 3 years, and the highest graded QB prospect since Andrew Luck. They are predicting as many as 6 first round QBs, which would tie the historic 1983 draft class (where we got Jim Kelly). This is the year to take a shot on a top QB IMO.

Bills 'Dead Cap' now at $38 mil - get more draft picks!
BillsFan4 replied to Punt75's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Totally agree and I've been saying the same thing myself. Say we build a complete team team and try to win with a game manager type QB. How long can you realistically keep that team together in this salary cap/free agent era until all the best players want big free agent deals? 4 years if you're lucky? Where as if they hit on a great QB, they can be a playoff contender for the next 10-15 years, and they won't have to worry as much about having great players at every other position. A great QB masks a lot of holes. I mean, ideally the Bills hit on a QB at 12 or with a small trade up, and surround that QB with a bunch of talent from the draft picks. I'd obviously rather have a deep team and a great QB. I want to surround the rookie QB with as much talent as possible. But if it comes down to either 1) trade up for a QB they feel is the franchise guy, or 2) stay put and take a chance on a 2nd tier QB while building depth at other positions... I take #1. Either way is a gamble. Drafting a QB always is. But give me the elite QB prospect if I have a choice. You can always build the team up around your QB in the coming years. This looks like a great QB class where we actually may have a chance at one of the top QBs. As we know, chances like that don't come along that often. Let's take advantage. -
Huh? Are you talking about Karlos Williams who the Bills got rid of 2 years before McDermott and Beane were even hired? As for thr the rest of your post... - When McDermott was in Carolina, they had a top 10 defense 4 out of 5 years, with 3 years in the top 6. So yes, they did play a very good brand of defensive football. They were also in the Super Bowl a couple years ago and almost went undefeated (15-1). - They have not picked a player of note yet? So Tre White wasn't of note? Dion Dawkins, who stepped in at LT in his rookie year and did very well? Matt Milano, a 5th round pick who ended up starting at LB? I guess they get no no credit for signing Hyde and Poyer either, who were one of the best safety tandems in the NFL. - Signing Star does not in any way show that this regime doesn't have a clue. Just because ESPN says the Bills overpaid, it means this regime doesn't have a clue? ESPN is always right? What if Star drastically improves our run defense and/or pass rush? Are they still clueless then? Don't you think we should maybe give Star a chance before writing him off as a bad/clueless signing? - Why is the Chargers process better? I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this comment. They finished with the same record and have one of the best QBs in the league, and more talent on offense and defense. The Bills did a lot more with a lot less.

It looks like it could be an overpayment, but it's too soon to tell. His performance on the field will tell us that. If he returns to his 2013-2015/16 form, I'd say no it's not. Plus, If the addition of Star drastically improves our run game and/or our pass rush is it really an overpayment? Or better question, will anyone really care that much if it is? I came across this this article on CatScratch. They compared recently signed contracts of comparable players and came up with 4yr $40M for Star. https://www.catscratchreader.com/2018/3/5/17075718/is-nfl-carolina-panthers-defensive-tackle-star-lotulelei-worth-4-years-40-million

Beane Bad Player Relations ?
BillsFan4 replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was also said that things got drastically worse in Carolina after Beane left because Beane was the bridge between Gettleman and the players. http://www.wgr550.com/articles/news/how-losing-brandon-beane-may-have-played-role-panthers-firing-gm-dave-gettleman -
Richie Incognito Retires Via Twitter - Now Confirmed
BillsFan4 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting that he said "especially IF he walks away from this game". Wonder if Zo knows it isn't a 100% done deal yet? Or if I'm just reading something into nothing. -
From everything I read they did try to re-sign him. Bills just beat their offer.
-
Pretty much everything he said makes perfect sense, and would be a perfect scenario for the Bills. I still worry about Elway going QB at 5, especially if Rosen is sitting there. So getting to #4 would be nice. But it'd be cheaper to get to 6/7. Or in this scenario we may even be able to sit at 12 and draft Rosen, which would be an absolute dream come true. Id still rather trade up to 6/7 if Rosen is there and the price is reasonable, just to be sure. Thanks for sharing this Yolo!

Ok, well just connecting the dots here Dunkirk Don style... Josh Rosen was in for a visit yesterday/today. He hates Trump. Richie love Trump. We must be trading up for Rosen... (relax, it's just a joke!) -
LAMP or troll. Not sure which. Maybe both? lol

Brandon beane the new Tim Murray?
BillsFan4 replied to QBorBust2018's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Sabres finished dead last in the McDavid draft year. They had the highest odds at him. There was absolutely nothing more the Sabres could have done to better their chances at getting him. The draft lottery screwed us. But finishing last guaranteed us Eichel. Finishing one spot better and we'd have Dylan Strome right now instead of a Eichel. So Murray definitely had the Sabres exactly where they needed to be in 2015. Getting Eichel was a blessing, and one heck of a consolation prize. He is one of the best young players in the game, and has a chance to be a top 5 player in the NHL in the coming years. Yes, Eichel is second tier to McDavid, but McDavid is just on another planet. He's a once in a decade type player, maybe even once in a generation. Eichel is a #1 pick in most drafts (look back from Crosby's draft year to Eichel's - he goes #1 in many/most of those years). You can argue that he tried to speed things up too much and should have tanked again in 2016 to put us in a better spot for Matthews. I would definitely agree on him trading away too many assets trying to speed things up. IMO that set the Sabres back years. Overall, Tim Murray sucked as a GM and did a lot of things wrong. Finishing last for the 2015 draft was not one of those things. As far as the Bills making the playoffs (which is a GREAT THING! 17 years!!), isn't that more on McDermott than Beane? Beane didn't do much to help the 2017 Bills. He traded away a bunch of talent, cleaned up the cap and stockpiled a bunch draft picks. IMO he did a great job positioning the Bills to be successful in the future. If you are saying he and McDermott should have done more to purposely throw away a season, I disagree. How can you possibly earn the respect of the locker room and get guys to buy in if you do that? But lets actually wait until the draft before we say that they missed out on a QB. They could trade up (technically they already did), or they could stay at 12 and a QB could fall right to them. Or they could take a QB at 12/22/53 etc and he could end up being one of the better QBs in the draft, and have a better career than whoever the Jets take at 3 (plus the other three top 49 picks they gave up). The Bills could stay put, use all their picks to build a Greta all around team and kick the Jets arse for the next 5 years... Let's just see how things play out. Love the total negativity though! lol -

Jets likely to release Hackenberg and Petty
BillsFan4 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I kind of figured one or both were gone the minute they signed both McCown and Bridgewater. Pretty crazy that Maccagnan drafted a QB at #51 overall and will now cut him 2 years later without him ever having seen the field... -
I'd be happy with either one in a Bills uniform. But if both are on the board I choose Rosen. My rop 3 are Rosen/Darnold (tie) then Mayfield a very close 2nd. As for the Jets, I want them to take Allen. I'd rather they not end up with any of the other top 3. But if it were Rosen or Mayfield, I guess I'd probably rather have them take Mayfield.

"Giants 'don't like' Josh Rosen".

Colts pick at 6 (which it has been written they are open to moving back from) would give the Giants one of Barkley, Nelson or Chubb. -

Did you know Mayfield has also had 2 concussions in college? (and at least 1 in high school) And IMO it could be argued that his playing style will put him at risk of suffering more in the future. Build a good o line around Rosen and you can help limit that risk. Mayfield will likely always be a guy who plays quite a bit outside the pocket. -

BillsFan4 replied to BurpleBull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This article, among many others, make it sound like the Giants are looking at Darnold and the 3 top non-QB prospects in this draft. If they are set on one one of those 3 non-QB prospects, the Bill strading up to #6, and from there to #2 would make perfect sense. In that scenario, QBs go off the board 1, 2 & 3. So the Giants are guaranteed to get one of their top 3 prospects (Barkley, Nelson, Chubb). It aounds like the Colts are willing to move down again. This could be our path to the #2 pick. Something else I've been thinking about - depending on how highly the Giants have these top QBs rated they may not want one going to the Jets. Maybe they really don't want to see Rosen in Jets green, making a trade back from #2 even more enticing... -
Hi QB's - Visiting Buffalo today and tomorrow!
BillsFan4 replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks Yolo. Ill be interested to see if they bring in Darnold. Id think if they feel they have any real shot at him, they'll probably bring him in for a visit. This was what I was wondering as well, if they don't have him in for a visit. Maybe they know the Browns are taking him.
